After the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia dies under her care, her house explodes in front of her eyes and now she’s found her best friends brutally murdered. As they run for their lives, and from the attraction simmering between them, they uncover a terrorist plot that could bring the nation to its knees. Time is running out. Opening Lines
"I saw the man who shot me.”

The Good
WOW. This book is FANTASTIC! Target for Terror had me roped in from the first chapter! There was non stop action and this book kept me on my toes while I was trying to figure out what would happen next. Mind you, there were some chapters that I felt were a little slow. Nevertheless this book was well paced and not once did I find anything to be predictable, Woot! I know I’ve already said it but this book really kept me on my toes! Every time I would think I had a moment to catch my breath there was a new plot twist that just put me right back on my toes!

Sloan and Natalie…The intense chemistry and sexual tension between these two? WOW. Sloan has a history that causes him to be VERY protective of Natalie. What I liked the most was that Natalie was a strong character, people were trying to kill her and she didn’t turn into a flimsy/annoying character. She was very smart with her head on her shoulders and a perfect match for Sloan ;). But don’t me confused or put off by this, this was not a romance driven novel!

Target for Terror is the first book in the Security Specialists, Inc series, and let me just say what an amazing way to start off a series! I’m so happy that an excerpt for Target For Ransom was included at the back, I can’t wait for Jordan’s story! This was my first book by this author, I believe she also pens as Laura Iding.

Lasting Impression
Overall, Target for Terror is a highly addictive suspenseful read! I hope my review did give anything away because I really want everyone to read this book! I’ll be “patiently” waiting for Target For Ransom to release, in the meantime I might just have to re-read this one. Do I recommend it? YES!!

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

This is an enjoyable read, which revolves around a cleverly thought out political drama. I think that it could have been more tightly written, but it was a good first attempt at romantic suspense by Ms Iding. I look forward to the next in the series. I have little doubt that it will be an interesting and intriguing story. I didn't feel the characters were always consistent either with their behaviour or their communications, leaving the reader guessing the blanks. It may have been intentional, but at times it just caused confusion - causing me to go back and double check

If you enjoy a good political mystery, with a touch of romance, then this is definitely worth a read.

Target For Terror by L. A. Iding was a great book that had non-stop action and suspense. It seemed like every couple of pages there was a new twist or turn. The plot of the story was very well planned out and contained suspense throughout the entire book. The characters were well developed and realistic ( at least for security specialists). The relationships were such that you wanted to keep reading to see where they were headed. The writing was descriptive and made you feel the emotions that the characters were feeling, and feel as though you were right there in the various settings. It was hard to catch your breath before a new twist or turn appeared. I would recommend this book to any one who likes suspense or action- packed books. This is the first book I've read by L. A. Iding and you can be sure I'll be reading her others.

Overall Rating: 5 Action-Packed Stars!

Thoughts before reading this book:
Dang! That cover is so awesome and the synopsis was really well put together, I feel that this book is really something worth reading.

Thoughts after reading this book:
It's finished already? Why! I want more from this book since it was legendary! I cannot stop thinking about it and the next book I feel would be just as exciting too. Since hottie Jordan would be in the next one so I guess the next book being awesome is already given.

description

Target For Terror is the first book in the Security Specialists series and it was a very action-packed read filled with passion. It's the kind of book that would make you sit on the edge of your chair with anticipation for what's going to happen next. You can't really guess what's the next thing going to happen and that is one of the main things that makes this book amazing.

Natalia was a nurse who was assigned to the Prime Minister of Russia after he was shot in Washington DC. But after her patient mysteriously dies, and her house burst into flames, she knows that what was happening couldn't be a coincidence. She doesn't have any choice but to trust former FBI agent Sloan Dryer for her safety. Everywhere they go danger approaches them and now their time is running out.

description

Is it hot in here or is it just this book? The sexual tension between Natalia and Sloan was palpable it's almost as if they can burn anyone who's near them within a 20 mile radius.

Natalia was trying to find her birth mother after her adoptive one died and when things start to get dangerous she can only rely on sexy Sloan. I loved Natalia's character since she was strong and even if she was faced with danger she doesn't act dumb. if that makes any sense.

Sloan was very protective of Natalia since he failed protecting her sister before and he really likes her. A lot. He was kind of bossy but due to the situation that they were in, it was really needed.

This book focuses more on the action part of the series rather than the romance part and I really wished that it would have been longer so I could had seen Natalia and Sloan interact without having to fear for their lives.

Other that that, this book was really awesome, I know I have said this word multiple times already but I can't help it since this book is really that great.

So this is the part where I would stop my review in fear of saying something that would spoil you but before I go, I wanted to tell you for the nth time that this book is really awesome and you would be missing half of your life, maybe not half but you get my point. (If not then sucks for you.)

Target for Terror is has all of the elements that make for a good book: mystery, action, suspense, and romance all bundled together for one sexy, engaging read. Iding is definitely off to a good start with her new series centered on the work of Sloan and Jordan who have partnered together to create Security Specialists, Inc. The history behind the startup of the company and the backstories of these two heroes are smoothly incorporated throughout the book without readers having too much exposition dumped on them all at once in the beginning of the story.

Watching the burgeoning relationship between Sloan and Natalia grow over the course of the book is what I enjoyed the most during my read. Natalia is distrustful of Sloan, as she should be; her life is in danger, and she’s all alone, unsure of who can be trusted. Sloan tries to keep her safe, but for the first half of the book, Natalia fights him every step of the way. Early on, she’s antagonistic, sarcastic, and feisty…which surprisingly is a turn-on for Sloan, and he’s a sucker for her Russian accent when she insults him:

“Her husky tone sent fissions of heat flickering through his veins. There was something genetically wrong with him if he could be attracted to a woman who’d called him a pig.”

I found a lot of the conversational sparring between them to be quite amusing, and the touch of wry humor Iding sprinkles throughout the book gives readers a much needed respite from the otherwise serious and violent plot.

Target for Terror is not a light, easy read…at least it wasn’t for me. The plot is complex and involves many characters who may or may not be involved in a terrorist plot against the U.S, and in this book, the Cold War is still very much in effect as the tension between Russia and the U.S. escalates, especially after the Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister is shot while delivering a speech in Washington, D.C. I really had to pay attention to understand all the major players involved and their possible motivations for all the murders that take place. What’s so interesting is that Natalia, a regular everyday person and nurse, seems to be somehow connected to all of villains and their plans for power. When the truth finally is revealed, I have to say, it was a shock! As Sloan and Natalia make their way through one crisis after another, they find lots of little surprises as they begin to figure out how everyone is connected. Needless to say, there is a lot going on in this book.

The chemistry between Sloan and Natalia feels genuine, and the intimate scenes between them are hot but not so steamy, they make you blush. However, I do question the timing of these scenes. The couple gives into their passion, hoping the “mind-numbing pleasure” will help them escape momentary from the worry, grief, and desperation they are feeling at the time. While some may completely understand their actions, if I were in their situation, sexual intimacy would not be at the top of my list…figuring out what to do next to survive would. Like most readers of romance, I look forward to the “happily ever after” that I hope I’ll find in the resolution, and that HEA can come in many forms. Sloan and Natalia’s HEA was a bit too soon and too sappy for me. However, others may their resolution to be spot on after everything this couple has been through together.

Following the conclusion to the book, Iding gives readers a preview of what’s next in the sequel which features Jordan, and it’s clear this book will also be full of surprises that will catch both the characters and readers off guard. I’m already sucked in…so I’ll be keeping my eye out for the book’s release.

I found the premise of the book very interesting and the story starts off action-filled right from the beginning. However, I found that the pacing of the action in the story was a little off. I’m not sure how to describe it but at times, I found myself drifting away from it. There are a lot of things going on (conspiracy theories, subterfuge, etc.) and that may have been part of it.

What I found interesting was that when I finished the book, I found out that there were two suspenseful storylines going on and was a little disappointed to find out they were only indirectly linked to each other. The ending left me a little disjointed. I was hoping for a deeper connection between the two.

What I did find enjoy able about the book were the characters. Sloan and Natalia was an interesting pair and I loved reading about the secondary characters and their roles in the story. All in all, I’d say this is a pretty good start to the series.

Natalia was born in Russia but moved to the states with her Aunt and Uncle when she was a toddler.  Now an Emergency Room nurse she is charged with caring for and translating for a high ranking Russian diplomat who was shot while giving a speech in Washington D.C.  Natalia is now on the run and she does not know who is trying to kill her.  Sloan is a former FBI agent now working private security.  His firm was hired as extra protection for the Russian.  Now is trying to figure out if Natalia had something to do with the Russian's death or if she is on the run for an entirely different reason.  Somehow the two are thrown together and are on the run.  Can Sloan keep Natalia safe?  Is Natalia hiding something more?

This was a fast paced action packed thriller!  I could not put it down once I started reading.  The twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing.  This book has action, betrayal, murder, international security concerns, treason, a bit of romance and so much more.  The characters are well developed and the book is very well written.  Scott has a way of describing a scene that has you right there in the midst of the danger.

If you enjoy the works of Irene Hannon or Elizabeth Goddard, you will want to give this a try.

I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review which is my opinion alone.

I got Target for Terror on sale a few months ago. Honestly, I am mad at myself for not reading it sooner. It's such a great read.

There were so many unexpected twists with this book. Natalia Sokolova and Sloan Dryer had such a fun relationship. Definitely forced proximity. Natalia does NOT want to be around Sloan for a while, but Sloan is stubborn and doesn't leave her...*sigh. Just perfect. I love them together.

The supporting cast was super interesting. Jordan Rashid, Sloan's boss, certainly is in my top three favorite characters in the book. The others though have important roles to play in the events.

I loved how Laura revealed information at the absolutely perfect time. She kept me turning the page. Highly recommend it!

3.3 - 3.4

I have to say that it's been hard giving this book 3 stars.

I had high expectations for it since the book belongs to one of my favorite genre (Romantic Suspense) and it is also a Christian Fiction book, but I have to say, I was disappointed.🙁

The disappointment had nothing to do with the plot or the development of the story. It had everything to do with faith content and the development of the main leads' relationship.

[Before I continue... and so that you may understand were I am coming from, when I see a book labeled as Christian fiction, I expect a certain level or standard out of the characters and the way they behave, react or think when different situations are happening. For me, these aspect are key points necessary for the story to actually portray a Christian worldview.]

Having explained this, which, by the way, only relays my point of view or opinion (just to clarify).... I have to say that since the beginning you see a certain way of thinking that's is mostly superficial regarding an admiration from the male lead to the female lead. I normally don't mind these kind of thoughts or comments if they are scarce, but that was not the case. Plus, you don't necessarily get a lot of 'getting to know each other' to actually see feelings settling in, but oh well...
Still, I have to say (so that people may not misinterpret what I am saying) that all these comment don't necessarily make the book less clean. This is a matter of preference. The romance was clean. You don't get sex scenes or stuff like that.

Besides this, I also thought it was lacking in the faith content, at least for my liking.

On the other hand, I actually got to finish the book because of the mixture of Russian language in the story, which I found to be interesting. The general plot was also quite interesting and it was also easy to read and glide through the pages of the book. Still not enough to give the book a higher rating.😞

So, in conclusion, it is a good book, it was just not I would consider rereading or recommending to the people I know.

[Ps.   Honestly, even if I am a little bit intrigued as to what will happen in the second book with Jordan, I don't think I will be reading it. At least not if I will be finding the same aspects I disliked in this one. So, I guess we'll see 🤷🏻‍♀️]

I was captured from the first page of this book! I'm just finding that I love political thrillers. I really hadn't been interested in them before but in broadening my horizons with romantic suspense, this subgenre, has captured me and this story was a great one! Natalia was just doing her job as a critical care nurse when she begins to care for a Russian diplomat who is shot while giving a speech in Washington DC. He whispers a key piece of evidence to her before ultimately dying, and she doesn't know what to do with it but upon arriving home and finding out her home has exploded, she now finds herself in the crosshairs of an international plot to assassinate her! She must reluctantly put herself in the hands of former FBI agent, Sloan Dryer, although she doesn't trust him at first. Together they go on the run and find danger everywhere they turn. Only Sloan's partner, Jordan, can be trusted. There is so much action and so much intrigue! Natalia's disjointed family is also endangered and framed and involved! Expect to be on the edge of your seat all the time! I finished this in 2 days because I couldn't put it down!!!! It's a fantastic story!

This was my first read from this author and I am so glad I picked it up. I cannot wait to read more from the author. It was certainly a page turner and had my attention. There was a lot going on, the characters were great, and the storyline very good. It had a lot of thrills, mystery and a little bit of sparks between two of the main characters. It was also so enjoyable to read a great book without the F bomb and tons of sex. The story of the Russian Mafia, a nurse and security specialist who use to work with the FBI made an amazing storyline. With the main character, nurse Natalia Sokolova’s house blown up along with the death of a Russian deputy prime minister dying on her shift, Sloan Dryer, a former FBI Agent, is sent to save her from getting killed while trying to find out what is going on with the Russian Mafia. There are sparks flying between the two of them as they try not to get killed themselves. I highly recommend this book.

Desperation. Tension. Hyperventilating panic. Sheer terror. This is one edge-of-your-seat thrill of a read…and a bit on the grittier side so be prepared. Not quite a spy novel, but there is some international espionage going on and traitors in high places which just ups the ante that much more.

Great dynamics between the hero and heroine. Sloane is kindly surly (and yes, that can be a thing) and Natalia is sooooo stubborn. And clueless when it comes to what they’re up against. She drives Sloane crazy, especially when she lapses into sullen Russian. Bwahaha. But once they figure out they’re on the same side, they bond over bodies and explosions. 🙂

I listened to the audio edition and enjoyed the dual narration by Melissa Moran and Alex Knox. Unputdownable…or maybe I should say unstoppable.

Oh. My. Gosh. #Facepalm

I hate giving 1 star reviews. In this case, I had no choice. I usually enjoy inspirational suspense romance books. I'm sad to say I laughed my way through most of this book. If it was edited by a person promoting themselves as a pro, I'd recommend the author call the Better Business Bureau. Between the irrational behavior and choices of the characters, the plotholes, the sentence fragments, this book presented more as a comic tragedy than anything else. As for the faith element, it was there but barely. I've read other suspense romance books by this author and enjoyed them but this one was just awful. I'm not sure what happened, but I can't recommend this book to anyone.

Natalia speaks Russian so she is caring for high profile patient when he is killed on her shift!

Natalia speaks Russian so when a high profile patient is brought into the hospital she is assigned as his nurse. Someone he swears is a FBI agent just shot him as he was giving his speech. So when the FBI come into interrogate him she tries to protect him. This is when she meets Sloan who is supposed to be the private extra protection for the director and catches what she says to the patient. This is the start of a deadly running battle to save her life as her patient is killed and they think she knows to much. She has unknown ties to Russia and if they can’t find them thousands are going to die.

A Russian diplomat is shot by an FBI agent during a speech. This he relays to his Russian born nurse, Natalia in the ICU. He later dies and when she arrives home, her home explodes as she exits the car. Someone wants her dead and former FBI agent Sloan is tasked with protecting her. The romance that develops between the two became nauseating to me. How many times do they have to refrain from kissing each other as they are running for their lives! The editing of this book is surely lacking. I documented at least 18 editing errors as I was reading the book. This distraction takes away from the enjoyment of reading. The plot was interesting but I had a hard time staying focused on the story. A week after finishing it, I couldn’t even remember what it was about.

Natalia has secrets in her past that even she doesn’t know. Though her own attempts to find her birth parents haven’t been successful, she still feels a connection to a politician from her homeland when he is placed in her care at the hospital. Before she can find out more, he dies under suspicious circumstances. More events lead her into the protective care of Sloan Dreyer. Together they realize that her life isn’t the only one in danger.
With lots of twists and turns, this novel keeps you in suspense. However, some factors don’t seem to remain consistent between scenes. For instance, people with serious injuries are able to lift heavy things when they shouldn’t.

I listen to the audiobook version of this and it first I thought the female narrator voice was a little too melodramatic I guess but as the book wore on I didn’t notice that as much though it was still there. But the story kept me engaged and kept wanting to read in fact I stayed up till 4 AM one night and 5 AM the next listening to it! I guess that’s a sign of a good book. I don’t remember any language or sex. This is my first time reading anything by this author better AUDIOBOOK said I bought from chirp Audiobooks came with book one and book 2 so I will definitely read the second in the series and I think there may be four in the series but I’m not sure about that

Nonstop action

Natalia & Sloan start out as enemies, then frenemies, before an action packed 48 hours or so solidifies their love for each other (belated spoiler alert, oops!) Finding the mole in the FBI, then the Russian terrorist organization plot to destroy America & putting the brakes on moments before total destruction is unleashed makes for a late night of reading. No can stop! Moving on to Jordan's book next. Laura Scott is a new-to-me writer, and I will be doing catch-up with her past series when I finish Security Specialists, Inc.

Enough is Enough

I made it to 67% ofthe story but I couldn't take the repetition of their romance any more. These two people me just two days before and just about any every other page is how hard it was to stay apart as their love for eack other kept drawing them together. The story otherwise was interesting but love attraction was distracting. Their was very little character development, predictable circumstances, no basis for some of their "jumping" to conclusions, and really juvenile sentence structure. The End

Good Story

I’ve read many of Laura Scotts books, but this one didn’t seem to match up to her usual stories. I really wouldn’t classify it as “Christian “ fiction. There was a little talk of God and prayers thrown in, but not truly a story showing who God is. Twice there was “What the h***?” I know many Christians use bad language, but I rarely find it in Christian fiction. The overall story was good, with suspense, some surprises, and romance. Characters were not developed as well as Scott usually does.

An action packed suspense novel, that's not afraid to let people get hurt. When ICU nurse Natalia is called in to care for a VIP patient, she never realised the danger coming her way.

What if the VIP was actually killed by someone in the FBI? Who can Natalia trust?

When her home explodes, and a friend is murdered, she has no choice but to let former FBI Agent Sloan protect her.

Who is targeting her? Why do they want her out of the way? And what lengths will they go to to get what they want?

Find out in this gripping book.

Very suspenseful and action packed as Natalie and Sloan are on the run for their lives not knowing who to trust. Highlighted for me how even when life seems against us, we can know God is on our side. And like in this story, we may not escape unharmed. I will say terrorism is not my normal read but I was completely drawn into this intrigue of Russia versus US and spies infiltrated in high places. Prepare to keep guessing and buckle up as you root for the good guys. It’s a crazy ride but so worth it.
