Agatha Christie is a Little People, Big Dreams children's book about author Agatha Christie and how she got her start. It's a very simple read with short paragraphs for young readers. Children will learn where her inspiration came from and the types of books she wrote. There are also a few pages in the back that offer facts about her life.

I read all of the Christie Poirot books the past 2-3 years and read Agatha: The Real Life of Agatha Christie (written by Anne Martinetti and Guillaume Lebeau and illustrated by Alexandre Franc) as a way an author introduces The Queen of Crime to young children. I like the purpose of the Frances Lincoln Children's Book series focused on women kids need to know, written by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by Elisa Munso. The books are lovely as a set, and (I warn you) I am going to read ALL of them (I think).

That said, I liked the Martinetti and Lebeau much better; it was more fun, and funny. This one is sort of bland, but I like that it focuses on a writer, and one I like. Maybe it will inspire a kid to be w writer, but it doesn't make us fall in love with the Auld Dame. I like the somewhat cartoony art style that features characters with larger heads. This is my first book in the series, which I kinda like better than this individual book.

3.5 stars. A fairly interesting book about Agatha Christine's life. We liked the illustrations but again we felt not enough text and information to interest an older child and wondered if a younger child would want to see murder victims in a pool of blood or Agatha during WWII tending to soldiers and then looking excitedly at poisons? We were both left wondering what age range this is aimed at?

Kind of a cute treatment for kids of Agatha Christie’s life. Black and white line drawings with little bits of red used judiciously illustrate different points in Christie’s life. It’s amusing to contrast this book with Agatha Christie’s 500+ pages autobiography, which I’m also reading this month.

Although with Agatha Christie Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara does present a decently informative introduction to both Agatha Christie's life and how she decided to become a mystery writer, personally I have found the author's presented narrative to be a bit too detailed especially with regard to the main thematics of Christie's books (this naturally being multiple murder victims) for the intended age group (for young children from probably the age of four to six) but then also not quite comprehensive enough for older children who would likely be able to handle the murder and mayhem scenarios shown in Agatha Christie a bit better and more easily but would probably also then find the rather bare bones descriptions of the latter as they are presented and featured by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara a trifle too limited and just scratching the proverbial surface so to speak. And furthermore, I for one also do believe that Agatha Christie's real life mystery, her sudden disappearance without a trace and the subsequent panicked search for her should have been included by the author within the main narrative of Agatha Christie and not just relegated to the timeline at the back (for if Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara believes that mentioning murder victims, poisons and sleuthing is suitable for the textual portion of Agatha Christie, then I for one also tend to think pointing out Agatha Christie's disappearance and that many Britons actually believed until she was found safe and sound that she had become a potential murder victim herself is more than suitable enough for the intended age group).

Now with regard to Elisa Munsó's expressive black, white and occasionally red accompanying illustrations, although they are still a bit too cartoon-like for my aesthetic tastes (and that I do aesthetically consider that especially Agatha Christie both when depicted as a child and later as an adult has a rather too little old lady like appearing face, and even more so than Miss Marple, who is supposed to be elderly), Munsó's pictures have actually been amongst my personal favourites thus far in the Little People, Big Dreams series. They are both descriptive and often really quite humorously clever, with my favourite illustrative spread of Agatha Christie being the illustration of the cemetery, where upon further inspection, the headstones all sport the names of the multitude of murder victims found in Agatha Christie's novels along with the dates when the given books were published, delightfully visually intriguing and engaging (although I do wonder if that kind of visual cleverness might not be lost on young children, who might even, if indeed very sensitive, find both the illustration of the cemetery itself and the accompanying textual blurb that Agatha Christie supposedly with her mysteries invented enough murder victims to actually fill a cemetery being potentially a bit off-putting and uncanny).

Another story about a famous woman, this time about the queen of murders. From the series, I already read about Marie Curie. As well this book is generously illustrated with very few texts in it. However, the lack of text is not a disadvantage, it lets space for pictures to tell the story. In case you know very few about Agatha but you don't want to read long or complicated stories, this one is for you, short and simple overview of life.

First sentence:
Little Agatha and her mum read a book together every afternoon.
Last sentence:
Luckily, Agatha knew that aby mystery can be solved if you use your imagination.

The book was purchased for me by my better half - and is a fine edition to an already collection that celebrates the Queen of Crime!

A great short book to introduce a "young generation" to Agatha Christie and her background.

These are neat biographies for kids, especially girls with terrific illustrations. I loved learning how Agatha was inspired for her future career in writing by studying poisons when she volunteered as a nurse during the first world war.

Rating: 4.5/5 🤗 Remarkably good
Emotions: Joy and Happiness.
Recommended to: Agatha Christie’s fans, children, if you want to read a biography but don’t have the time to read a lengthy one.
Would I read another from this author:Yes

This is a children book, a biography of Agatha Christie, the queen of crime. It’s very short and concise, it has everything you need to know about her and enough information to peek interest if you want to know more.

I think is a great way to get children interested in great women figures from history and get inspired by them.

I highly recommend it.

I love any biography series where they focus on the not-already-written-about-multiple-times subjects. And with Agatha Christie being my favorite writer of all time, I was excited for this one. I didn’t learn anything new but people will get the important details of her life and work- creating mysteries (and the detectives who solve them) that have entertained readers for almost a hundred years!

This is part of a new series, “Little People, Big Dreams,” which gives a short & simple introduction to interesting & important women. I think the series is a good addition to libraries for young students to gain an introduction to some famous individuals. (Library)

A great little biography for young minds written in a picture book format.

I had no prior knowledge of who Agatha Christie really was & this little book taught me a lot.

Naja.

This is a lovely series of books for children introducing them to some iconic people from the past. My son knows that I am a die hard fan of Agatha Christie, and so he was keen to read about her too.

I liked the cute and engaging illustrations and the easy manner in which the essentials of her life story were captured (they even mentioned her disappearance at age 25!).

I would love to go through some of the other titles in the series, but perhaps it's best to get them through a library subscription, because they are very expensive and as autobiographies, don't really merit repeat reading!

Agatha Christie is the fifth book in the Little People, Big Dreams series and is a children's picture book written by Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by Elisa Munsó. It is a cursory biography of Agatha Christie – a little girl who taught herself to read on her journey to become one of the most famous crime writers of all time.

March, at least in my part of the world is Women's History Month, which I plan to read one children's book, particularly a biography, which pertains to the subject everyday this month. Therefore, I thought that this book would be apropos for today.

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE (née Miller) was an English writer. She is known for her plethora of detective novels and short story collections, particularly those revolving around her fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

Vegara's text is rather simplistic, straightforward, and informative. It starts off with a young Agatha Christie, listening to her mother reading her books, but like always Agatha Christie thought of better endings to those books. In time, Agatha Christie learns how to read and write and eventual becomes one of the world's most famous crime writers. At the end, there is a concise and informative biography timeline of Agatha Christie's life. Munsó's illustrations are drawn well, albeit a tad simplistic, but depicted the narrative rather well and apropos to the target audience.

The premise of the book is rather straightforward. It depicts Agatha Christie's life as a young girl who showed early signs as a budding author when she came up with better endings to the books that her mother would read to her every afternoon. During the First World War, Agatha Christie, who was then in her early twenties, nursed wounded soldiers in hospitals and learned about poisons, which was put to good use when her first detective novels were published.

All in all, Agatha Christie is a wonderful biography of a little girl that dared to dream big and worked hard to accomplish those dreams and became a world renowned crime writer – Agatha Christie.

A simple biographical picture book intro to mystery writer Agatha Christie.

This was ok but I wanted a little more. To build the mood for Agatha's biography, the illustrator chose to do the illustrations in just black and white with some red highlights. I liked that choice, but I'm not a huge fan of the style of illustration used. And this is just the most basic of basic introductions to Agatha Christie. It basically tells that she was a writer, that she worked as a nurse during the war, that she created Poirot and Miss Marple, and that she liked to travel. There's a little more information in the back but it still glosses over a lot (and even misses the fact that Christie worked as a pharmacist after the war and that she had another popular crime solving duo, Tommy & Tuppence). I'm not sure who the target audience is supposed to be for this one. It seems a bit gory for little kids, but not enough information for slightly older kids.

Notes on content: A wound with blood around it in a person's leg is shown on the page where it talks about Agatha being a nurse during the war, and another page shows legs lying in a puddle of red. The last page talks about how there are enough dead bodies in her books to fill a cemetery.

Agatha Christie is a biography illustrating the life and accomplishments of Agatha Christie. It demonstrates her childhood, what inspired her to write, her most famous books, and how she herself had her own mysteries.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I have been reading all the ones in the Little People, Big Dreams recently, and I have really enjoyed them. I like the illustrations and the words are easy to follow but some have some words that could be difficult for early readers.
Any Student who likes mysteries or more horror books would enjoy this book. I think it would be fun to do a series about important women in history (possibly during women's history month) and maybe do a book like this a day. Another option is to assign one of these books to a student and for them to do a research type project where they present their person in a fun way. This book could be a starting point for their research.

I'm not sure at what age younger readers pick up their first Agatha Christie mystery, but this book probably won't facilitate that. It is, however, a good book on its own. It delivers a simple biography, illustrates her story in black and white with touches of, not surprisingly, red, and end notes that tell more of Christie's story and includes several photos of her. Illustrated by Elisa Munsó.

The series as a whole offers creative, simple, and inspiring examples of women in their professions. While the writers and illustrators vary from one title to the next, there is also a common tone and visual style. Each volume wraps up with a two-page biographical sketch with photos. And the inside front and back covers are designed with a different repeating pattern.

Agatha Christie is known as the queen of mystery. This book starts with Agatha's childhood. Her mom always read to her growing up and she would come up with different endings for books as a child. She then went on to be a nurse for the war and eventually became an author. She came up with different characters such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple who her readers became attached to. Agatha wrote tons of mystery books and is one of the most creative writers there has ever been.
I loved how this book only used black, white, and red for the illustrations. The colors express Agatha Christie's type of writing well. I would read this book to my students if we were learning about different genres such as mystery.

This biography of the life of writer Agatha Christie comes from one of the Little People, Big Dreams series and comes recommended from the Mighty Girls website. The illustrations are vivid and inspiring. We have books from this series on our shelves to offer children an alternative to traditional princess stories with inspiring female role models.
NB: I've ordered this book to complete our collection, though in all honesty it is more suitable for a slightly older age group, not so much due to the representations of Agatha's life, which are handled sensitively, but because she was of course a murder mystery writer.
