It is no secret my friend Janet and I are huge fans of the television sitcom I Love Lucy. Janet and I met in a local homeschool group when our children were young. We discovered each of us had similar values and interests as the other one did, so it was natural for us to become friends. Two of our interests are vintage television shows and cooking. Recently, while I was scrolling through my social media newsfeed an advertisement for a cookbook caught my eye. The cookbook turned out to be Jenn Fujikawa’s The I Love Lucy Cookbook: Classic Recipes Inspired by the Iconic TV Show. I messaged Janet with a picture and description of the cookbook. At the end of the day, we had perused an online copy and ended up purchasing a copy of the cookbook. Now it was time to begin the adventure of cooking through one of our favorite retro television shows, I Love Lucy!
The I Love Lucy Cookbook: Classic Recipes Inspired by the Iconic TV Show is a tribute not only to the television series, but also to the cookbooks of the 1950’s. The cookbook features an introduction to each section of the cookbook, recipes which include retro style photographs and photographs from I Love Lucy.
The contents of the cookbook encompass the following: Introduction Part 1: A Little Bit of Cuba Part 2: A Big Hunk of America Part 3: European Delights Part 4: Entertaining the Tropicana Way Part 5: Breakfast with the Ricardo’s Part 6: Delectable Desserts Part 7: Ladies’ Club Luncheon Part 8: Special Occasions Acknowledgments
I enjoyed this book as both a cookbook and as a throwback to the I LOVE LUCY television shows. Simple yet delicious recipes that are "tied" to episodes of the show. Lovely photographs of both the food and stills from various episodes. The little prologues associated with each recipe are both entertaining and informative. A must-have for any fan of I LOVE LUCY or someone new to the series. I love the retro feel of the book's cover, too.
Alternates anecdotes with recipes inspired by the show. A trip down memory lane for me. Most of these recipes look easy enough for a novice cook like me to try.
It's a fun book, there's a few recipes I would consider making, I think I wanted the book because of the years and memories of the show. there's some fun picture. I would recommend this book
This cookbook is delightful! I love the photographs and episode information that accompanies each recipe! If you are and I love Lucy fan, you must get this book!
If you are an I Love Lucy fan, you will love this book. It takes an episode where food is mentioned, discusses the episode and where the dish is brought up and than gives you the recipe. I just found this book to be such an absolute delight!
