Internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen took an unusual route to a writing career. A graduate of Stanford University, Tess went on to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was awarded her M.D.
While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. Call After Midnight, a romantic thriller, was followed by eight more romantic suspense novels. She also wrote a screenplay, "Adrift", which aired as a 1993 CBS Movie of the Week starring Kate Jackson.
Tess's first medical thriller, Harvest, was released in hardcover in 1996, and it marked her debut on the New York Times bestseller list. Her suspense novels since then have been: Life Support (1997), Bloodstream (1998), Gravity (1999), The Surgeon (2001), The Apprentice (2002), The Sinner (2003), Body Double (2004), Vanish (2005), The Mephisto Club (2006), and The Bone Garden (2007). As well as being a New York Times bestselling author, she has also been a #1 bestseller in both Germany and the UK. She has won both the Nero Wolfe Award (for Vanish) and the Rita Award (for The Surgeon.) Critics around the world have praised her novels as "Pulse-pounding fun" (Philadelphia Inquirer), "Scary and brilliant" (Toronto Globe and Mail), and "Polished, riveting prose" (Chicago Tribune). Publisher Weekly has dubbed her the "medical suspense queen".
Now retired from medicine, she writes full time. She lives in Maine.
There were too books in this volume - "On The Edge" by Tess Gerritsen and "Undercover Avenger" by Rita Herron. I found both stories too predictable. I have read other Gerritsen books and was disappointed with "On The Edge." The crime/thriller/suspense part of each story was good, but I felt the sex scenes were unnecessary to the story. I got the feeling the authors included these just to fill out the pages.
This book has 2 stories. The first one is called Keeper of the Bride. Nina Cormier is at the alter waiting for her groom but he doesn't show so she calls if all off and everyone leaves. Thank goodness as if anyone had been in there, no one would have survived as a bomb went off. Someone is out to get her, kill her and she has no clue as to what is going on. She goes to the police and they assign Detective Sam Navarro and they must unravel what the heck is going on. Highly recommend. The second story is Undercover Avenger and it was ok. Eric Caldwell is undercover investigating a mysterious Medical Clinc. Melissa Fagan was also investigating the same clinic Eric was. They have to work together to find out whats going on. An ok plot but didn't really interest me very well. Just didn't have much going on. Would recommend the book based on Tess Gerritsen's novel.
I was expecting a new Rizzoli & Isles novel when I received notice of this book, but it was a satisfying story of a woman targeted by the Mob and the cop assigned to protect her. Still anxious for the newest R&I novel, though.
On the Edge by Tess Gerittson. No thanks. I read it but what a worthless story. The second one, Undercover Avenger by Rita Herron, started out interesting but as time went on I got tired of the story and was happy when it ended.
Not my usual type of reading material. Tess Gerritsen is so much better at psychological thrillers, mysteries and thought this was her normal genre but it wasn't up to her usual brilliance.
