I'm a USA Today bestselling mystery/suspense/thriller author and a big horse and sled dog enthusiast.

My hunky husband and I ride our beloved draft cross horses way up in the frozen north of Snowheresville, WY, where we run a rustic, off-the-grid lodge on the face of the Bighorn Mountains. When I'm not writing or riding, I'm passionate about wilderness sports, always with a couple of rescue dogs, bear spray, a mountain lion knife, and my Judge. NO ANIMALS HAVE BEEN HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS LIFE ADVENTURE (but don't sneak up on me).

I've made some lists and won some awards, yada yada. Amazon Charts Top 25 bestseller. USA Today Bestseller. The Silver Falchion for Best Adult Mystery WINNER (Fighting for Anna), the WINNERS for USA Best Books Fiction: Cross Genre (Hell to Pay, Heaven to Betsy), and others. With books "in print" of over 3,000,000, readers seem to enjoy the books—I think they have exceptionally good taste. {insert goofy grin here} Lots of them follow my show Wine Women & Writing, too, where I fangirl my favorite authors and interview them for your listening and viewing pleasure. This option is the only one I see for posting my review, but I've only read book 1 which is Switchback. This is the only book my library has, not books 1-3. The author self-published.

Patrick Flint is a doctor in Buffalo, Wyoming. His wife is Susanne and they have two children, Trish (15) and Perry (12). Patrick needs a break from his frantic hospital life so he plans a family trip to go elk hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and camping. At the last minute, Susanne refuses to go. She wants to stay behind and have some alone time. As the rest of the family heads out, a prisoner escapes and kills a deputy. Both Patrick and Susanne will not have the great time they are both expecting.

While reading the first chapter, I wasn't sure this was going to be the book for me but the author took the story in a good direction. Once they were on the trip, I enjoyed the book a lot and got caught up in the adventure. The author did a great job with descriptions of the outdoors and all aspects of the hunting trip plus the terror of the kidnapping.

SWITCHBACK
Patrick was the doctor on call, leaving the house his wife is on auto pilot when she says be careful, Trish his moody teenagers, and twelve year old son were also sleeping yet. At home the packing was to be done when he returned. Kids are wondering why they have go elk hunting with him. Suzanne his wife hated it all, and decided she wasn’t going. With just the three he was determined to enjoy it, the weather didn’t help. Trish wanted to stay one day at the camp and read. Returning a nightmare begins, where was she. The author has given us a gripping story set in the mountains of Wyoming, a family coming together and a new series. Well done
SNAKE OIL.
Traveling in blizzard weather conditions to volunteer at a Indian Health Center when their car breaks down, time line 1970. Then when they do reach the place there is a dead man, a woman ready to give birth, and all lines of communication are down. Add in Patrick’s wife who stayed at home preparing for the guest, and doesn’t know where he is at. A story with great characters, and a plot filled with twists and turns.
SAWBONES
Teaching his wife and himself to ski was not going as planned. They gave doctors tickets for the day to be on call, omitting they were beginners.
They needed this day together peace and quiet before the death penalty trial. The silence was broken by a breaking twig or a gun shot, when a call
came. An emergency if person would even live to get to the hospital.
There daughter Trish getting a ride home with Brandon, which caused problems. His parents are blaming her family for what happened.
Things escalates with a head on collusion, finding a hitman had been hired, blackmail, a small town and so many merciless criminals. A family once again things happened to them, and they still may have to testify. Changes and charges to people they new. A plot that had a lot of twists, and people involved , made an interesting story
.Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

***** SWITCHBACK
Switchback is the first novel in a series titled Patrick Flint. I was into this tale before the middle of chapter one and couldn't put it down until it was done. Personable protagonists, really despicable bad guys, immersion into glorious Wyoming wilderness - who could ask for anything more? Patrick Flint is a medical physician in 1976 at a small hospital in the Yellowstone National Park border town of Buffalo, Wyoming. Buffalo is so small Patrick often takes off-duty calls for the hospital and the local veterinarian at the same time.

Patrick, his wife Suzanne, and their two children, Trish 15 years old, and Perry 11, are only two years out of the Dallas, Texas metro complex, so they are thoroughly enjoying the wilderness and their small-town experiences including horses. With the exception of Suzanne, who is a girly woman and doesn't really fit in with the more wilderness-oriented lifelong ladies of smalltown Wyoming. Hunting and fishing are not in her wheelhouse, nor doesn't she enjoy doing without the finer things in life - nice clothes, shopping, indoor toilets, and taking long bubble baths. Sleeping in a tent on the ground is not her idea of a good time. Horses now - she's a Texas girl so she loves horses. So there is that. But she probably would be happiest if the prospect of returning to her extended family and home back in Dallas was in their future.

Fortunately for Patrick, both kids love the whole wilderness experience and are of an age to master the things he loves about the change in their latitude, longitude, and altitude. The mountains are becoming their homeland. But there are also bad things in the mountains, and these few days in the novel Switchback are filled with them. Be ready for a compelling, fast-action ride. Pamela Fagan Hutchins will take you there. I can't wait for the next one, titled Snake Oil.

***** SNAKE OIL #2
I am thoroughly enjoying these novels set in the Pacific NW - mainly Wyoming though Montana and Yellowstone make the occasional appearance - and placed in the late 1970s BEFORE cellphones and on-demand TV series were even dreamed of. It brings back memories galore from that time in my own life and much more appreciative of the conveniences we take for granted nearly 50 years later. In this one, the tremendous advantages of CB radio at that time, with a range of up to 25 miles and widely used by truckers and occasionally others frequently on the road but even that was not an everyday advantage in the far west, with communities sometimes an hour or two apart down long lonesome highways. Patrick and his friend and co-worker Wes Braten are stranded at the Indian Health Center for the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes on the Wind River Reservation during a December storm that dropped several feet of snow and temps into the negative 20s, without phone service or electricity. Their two or three-day visit may last much longer. They have a new baby coming, the mother whom they found in a broken car on the side of the road, a man who died stepping from his vehicle at the clinic parking lot unfortunately on the side without windows, and a child suffering from spinal meningitis who requires immediate hospitalization which is a couple of hours away, just to begin their monthly trip away from home. The waiting room is packed with hurting folk, and Constance is run off her feet already. Wes will drive the boy and his mother, leaving Patrick to handle the rest. The older man dead and cold in his car will just have to wait.

Wife Susanne meanwhile hasn't heard from Patrick who normally checks in on arrival, is unable to contact him, trying frantically to get their house ready and food prepared for five members of her Texas family, who will be visiting them for the first time in Wyoming, arriving by car imminently and staying over for Christmas which she also is not entirely prepared for, and the kids are as usual. 12-year-old Perry was kicked out of Sunday School for fighting and 15-year-old Trish is too, much too deeply into her first crush with bad-boy Brandon and seeking around, and Susanne's dream house that might hold her in Wyoming despite her homesickness for Dallas and family has received a counter offer she will have to re-counter by 5 pm. The family arrives 6 hours early, long before she is ready. But her Dad has a CB radio, from which he starts a relay to try and find out what's going on at the clinic on the reservation and find out Patrick's thoughts on the bid on their perhaps new abode. Of Course, when it finally reaches Susanne, the news is not anything she wants to hear - but it could be worse. Just wait. It will be worse.

What a ride! A really good tale, told very well. I am pleased to recommend Pamela Fagan Hutchins to friends and family. She tells interesting, exciting, easily pictured stories we can all sympathize with, and her word pictures of this area bring it to life in every chapter.

***** SAWBONES #3
What a special trip into the 1970s and the Pacific Northwest! I am truly enjoying this series, and Sawbones was a pretty compelling read. Patrick's wife Susanne and daughter Trish as major witnesses in one of Wyoming's first death-penalty-eligible murder trials - and the hits just keep on coming. There are hints of spring but not enough to do more than tease, and everyone but the dog is stressed out and keeping frantically busy as they await the trial, the date of which has been reset several times, usually because of the death of a major player. Susanne and Trish are THE major players for the defense and getting help to ensure their safety falls to their circle of friends. It is far from an easy task and the hits arrive from unexpected directions. Kept me up much too late, this one. This is an excellent tale, told very well. I am especially enjoying this family, this history. I think you will, as well.

Fantastic!!! Keeps you wanting more!

This is absolutely awesome! I'm a huge fan of sequential, consecutive "who done it" and detective type series books. This series is one I couldn't put down, and am anxious to read 4 through 6. Heavy family involvement, which always makes it interesting when you're family oriented. Having raised 5 teenagers myself, this is "nail on the head". But the real meat is the things which happen and not knowing who the real culpret(s) are. Great, keep you wanting more series!

Dr. Flint and family manage to get in an amazing amount of trouble. This book carries the reader along like an avalanche or tsunami, one thing after another and often out of the frying pan into the fire. Add to that the characters are all very real, likeable people whom you can't help caring about, and it becomes difficult to put the book down. Highly recommended, but don't start reading late in the evening if you want to get any sleep.

Reading aloud to Brandon. After we finished Big Horn (Jenn Herrington), we realized there were crossover characters from other books. Was pleasantly surprised to find the bind up of 3 novels, although it's over 700 pages.

As I mentioned in my BH review, I'm pleasantly surprised with her writing, as an indie/self-pubbed author. Definitely took the time to have an editor, even gratis, help her tighten it up.

I read all three books when they came out and loved them all. All were standalone reads and well written perfectly paced pulling you in from the start. All three are about adventures the Flint family are pulled into and all different. Cannot go wrong with this series.

Loved this series, can't wait for the next two. Great stories, read them back to back. Always something going on, some crisis and a family working together to resolve the issues even when life threatening. Loved the setting because of having lived in the same areas in Wyoming in the 1970's.

Wow Wow Wow!! How much trouble can one family get into, without trying? This is Books 1-3 of the Patrick Flint series, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat! I am sure that the rest of the series will be just as exciting, too.

Great Series, excellent stories and writing. Pulled me in and wouldn't let me go!!! Dr. Flint is a doctor in Buffalo, Wyoming and serves several areas in the state, including the Wind River Indian Reservation. I don't know how this family manages to survive everything that happens to them in these three novels, but they do and I keep reading. Am now on #4 called Scapegoat!! I've also gotten two more of her sets to followup.

I particularly loved this series on a personal level because we lived in Hardin, Montana for a year (1971) and would go to see family in Thermopolis, Wy, driving through Sheridan and Buffalo. Later, we moved to Worland, WY and lived there for until January 1980. We would recreate in the Big Horn mountains and fish along Tensleep Creek. I have fond memories and many friends in that area. Having worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Worland, I was able to visit our other offices in places like Cheyenne, Casper, Cody, Buffalo, etc. Have since moved back to the Northwest, still loved my time in Wyoming.
