Joshua Griffith has a way of creating dialogue that really hits you. Even in this fast-paced apocalyptic tale, there were some moments that had me laughing out loud. I think this is because the characters are developed in such a way that it makes you feel as if you’re right there with them, hurting in their bad moments and laughing in their good. This was a different take on the apocalypse from other books in the genre that I’ve read, and this is what kept me flipping pages. A mix of religious beliefs and fantasy makes for a memorable read.

‘The Second Coming of Hell’ is post-apocalyptic fantasy novel which has the feel of a high fantasy story. The story centres around a small group of characters who go on a quest to defeat a powerful evil character and his army. The post-apocalyptic element of the story is established in the first two chapters which tell the story of the apocalypse through the eyes of a character called Todd. After these first two chapters however, the story takes on a high fantasy feel, with the introduction of magic and undead creatures. There were times when I completely forgot that the first two chapters happened, until the apocalypse was mentioned in passing by characters.

The story has a few main characters some of whom showed promise at the start. The female protagonist, Rose, is portrayed as a no-nonsense, need no help from no man, kind of character who I had hopes would play out into a strong and interesting female lead. Sadly, Griffith falls into the same hole most people do when it comes to female lead characters and has written a character who constantly needs saving by the men in her life and doesn’t really do a whole lot of saving them back in return. There also seems to be a rather odd tendency of many of the characters to have deeply sexual thoughts at inappropriate times, which I found rather distracting. I struggled to find much depth in any of the characters, they either seemed to want to fight or have sex.

The main plot was an interesting take on the Christian apocalypse story, with a mix of dialogue, action and scene building which help to keep the story moving along. There are a few twists along the way, and one great big slap in the face which I really didn’t see coming, but it was too out there to be believable for me. There are few sub plots, most of which centre around the love stories between the main characters. These love stories have a slightly disturbing feel to them. The relationship between Rose and Devlin is based upon his obsession with her which crosses a line into stalker territory, while the relationship between Duncan and Purah seems to stem from Purah’s need of Duncan’s magic. In the end, the plot is mostly tied up with a bow, but the book did not leave me with anything more than a few fleeting thoughts.

Overall, there are few editing issues which were mildly distracting at times, there is an incredibly random graphic sex scene which seemed to me to be horribly out of place and some rather graphic sexual violence which I found distasteful. Griffith also tends to repeat himself often though the book, a trait which I find slightly irritating. If you’re looking for a book to while away a few hours and high fantasy is your things, there are better books out there to read than this. It’s an interesting plot idea that just wasn’t developed to my tastes. In it’s defence though, I did finish the book so it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great. I have given this book 3.2 stars.

The story revolves around multiple characters like Duncan—a man wounded by his past and the actions of his wife who went missing during the reaping—, Rose, who is a sorceress and is determined to stay true to her goals and prove to others that she doesn’t need a man to protect her, Devlin, who is a vampire with a flirty personality but a kind heart, and Purah—a fallen angel who is cursed and suffers from loss of memory.
These characters come together throughout the story and learn more about themselves as they try to save the world from a fallen angel who is trying to become a god through deceit and lies weaved centuries ago.
This was definitely a new and interesting take on the apocalypse.

Wow, what a twist. Romance, Vamps, angels, and so many more unbelievable creatures. With death knocking on everyone's door, do you dare to answer it? This is a strong and chilling read. It's the first time I read a book from this author, and I will look for more of his work.
Some parts lost me for a moment, but then I could have been half asleep. It is truly a great book. Hell was surely coming, and it was time to fight or fry. I hear it's hot in hell. Bring the sunscreen and a fan.

The Decaying Destiny of Bobby the Zombie is a humorous comedy adventure about the newly dead zombie, Bobby Lunger. Read as the now Deadman has to combat his urges of devouring any brain he comes across in this great new read by Joshua Griffith. This tale is a funny and creative dark comedy that takes a unique look into how those that now only want to eat your brains may live life.

I thoroughly enjoyed the inner dialogue of Bobby as he struggles to come to grasp with his new surroundings and how to deal with them. This is a read I would recommend for people into a bit of light comedy, tinged with a darker, horror element. Great effort from Griffith and would read again! Thank you for sharing this!

This was one of the funniest and most original books I’ve picked up in a long time. While I don’t know how many books I’ve read about the zombie apocalypse, I don’t know how many of them have been from the POV of the zombie…except of course for Warm Bodies.

This book was so much better though.

We follow Bobby through all his adventures from his escape from the grave to his first taste of brains to his time stealing a tank to his experience with a tornado. As Bobby finds himself in the new world, his adventures become more and more wild.

It’s a shame this story was so short because I absolutely adored it.

Recommended for fans of the movie Shaun of the Dead.

This was such an enjoyable read! I needed the laugh. I mean really, I did. This wasn't my first book by Joshua Griffith and it will not be the last. I have become a huge fan of this author's work and talent.

Bobby, the guy in this story, wakes from being buried and soon figures out he's a zombie. . Person by person, Bobby fills his hungry throughout the book as he goes on. Yes this book has some grossness to it, but wow does it have that laugh out loud reaction. This was great! I laughed so hard..."Round and round" "Notes to self:"

Side note: Highly recommended! Oh, man where did you come up with this? I swear this took me all of two and a half hours to read...

This book is totally amazing.
We received this is a ARC

I have never laughed so much and cheered so hard for a Zombie. "These Brains are Mine get Your OWN." That did me in. The poor man life sure sent him a lot to handle but he did it in the true Zombie fashion.

One should never call a Zombie names, because that mean you are next on the menu. Zom-burrito. The author really had a way of putting a spin on the world of a newly created Zombie.

It's a great read and very enjoyable. Highly Recommended.

I read this book long ago but never got around to reviewing it. I remember enjoying it, so I finally got the paperback. It was a funny book where the MC is an actual zombie. Yes, you are reading from the point of view of a zombie.

There are plenty of pop culture references that had me cracking up. Also, when he says BRAINSSSS, I died laughing. The ending is a bit dark, so be forewarned about that. I won't spoil it, but you'll understand when you get to it.

If you're looking for a zombie horror story that doesn't take itself too seriously, give Bobby the Zombie a read!

I read The Second Coming of Hell by Joshua Griffith via my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

This is one of the more imaginative conglomeration's of vampires, ghouls (walkers/zombies), fallen angels, demi-gods, false prophets, and the apocalypse I've ever read. The reader is thrown immediately into the Earth's impending doom and the action is essentially non-stop to the end; I buzzed through this piece in 4 sittings, only breaking to do all those mundane things one must do. The protagonist's in this story go through excellent character arcs. I admit I was first annoyed by Rose, but she eventually grew on me and I felt satisfied with how her arc ended. My favorite character was Devlin - who doesn't love an honorable vampire?

There was a small amount of what I would consider X-rated sexual content in the story which I was not expecting. So if that isn't your thing - you've been warned, but you could easily skip past it as, overall, to me it didn't seem to be integral to the plot.

This book is definitely worth a read if you're into apocalypse type stories. I was satisfied with the ending but would love to see the story continue. Were the author to employ professional editing and cover to match, this book would be a slam dunk 5* and then some.

Wow, what a ride. The book opens on a post-apocalyptic Earth, one populated by normal humans, ghouls — essentially zombies that feed on the living humans — some witches and wizards possessing varying degrees of magical power and the occasional fallen angel and vampire. Just your everyday existence, right?
The village of Melona is ruled — founded and ruled, actually — by Rose, a lovely witch who keeps the villagers safe from ghouls behind the palisade walls until one day those walls are breached and she is hauled to safety by Devlin, a vampire who’s been carrying a candle for her for a long time. She insists on bringing along Duncan, who’s helped her resist the ghouls but is currently unconscious.
Their escape turns into a major adventure with a lot of close calls, particularly at the hands of Sorath, the head fallen angel who is masquerading as Jesus. Not exactly the Jesus of the Scriptures; he’s more vengeful and underneath the façade, quite a bit nastier than the real thing. He controls the ghouls and his followers both, and when they get Duncan, Rose and Devlin in their clutches — well, we don’t want to give up all the surprises, do we?

An apocalyptic disaster has decimated the entire continent. There are pockets of survivors attempting to return to some sort of normal existence. The tiny villages are surrounded by high walls to keep out the ghouls who prowl the nighttime hours. In one of these small towns Duncan has called home and intends to keep safe. The leader of the village is Rose, a feisty survivor who runs nearly everything in the town. When disaster hits, Rose needs to rescue Duncan by getting him safely into a nearby cave. Though she has some power as a sorceress, she still finds it difficult. Once secure inside the cave she comes up against a vampire who claims he wants to help.
This is a fast-paced, action packed adventure. There were many interesting elements along with plenty of angst and sarcastic dialogue. Duncan was the reluctant hero along with Rose and Devlin. Rose started out strong and confident, but in my opinion it felt like she got lost somewhere between the pages. All and all a good read.

This book had me hooked from the beginning with its imaginative and well-written description of the end-of-days. Then it moved on to the aftermath where we meet Rose, a sorceress and the warrior Duncan. Soon they are forced into a violent struggle for survival against flesh-eating ghouls.
As the story progresses, we meet many more fascinating and fanciful characters all with their own agendas. Devlin a vampire who is obsessed with Rose and a host of angels one of which is hungry for power and has been manipulating and deceiving others for centuries.
This is a fast-paced action fantasy, highly imaginative and with many intriguing ingredients. The pace and flow keep you reading. However, I was a little put off by the sex scenes, but that is a matter of taste and didn’t take away from the main plot.

A different view for an apocalyptic fantasy novel.
The apocalyptic scenario is established in the first two chapters, then we meet the four main characters, who are brought together by trying to save what’s left of the world from a Fallen Angel and his army.
Each of them has its own troubles to face; a missing wife, trust issues, amnesia, etc., but as we dive further into the story some things find a solution, while others get even more complicated as different relationships develop between the characters.
The quite graphic sex scene made me a bit uncomfortable, but it doesn’t cut from the story’s impact.

I was immediately attracted to the cover of this book, it is very striking.

The Second Coming of Hell is the first book I’ve read by Joshua Griffith. I was grabbed from the very first chapter in which the apocalypse starts on the present day. The story then moves onto the future.

There are a variety of well developed characters and ghouls are thrown into the mix! I don’t think I’ve ever read anything like this before.

I really admired Joshua’s use of language and the description used to set his scenes. The tone is humorous and the action comes thick and fast.

A highly recommended read for fans of apocalyptic tales with a twist.

I honestly don't know what I was expecting when I started this book, but this was NOT it. I think I expected a generic "second coming" sort of thing with some prophecy type events and Left Behind feel. But, like.... the opposite happened?

As far as plot goes, I thought it was a generally well-rounded storyline with enough action and balance between POVs to keep me reading. I enjoyed it, even though I had some basic complaints.

Overall, an enjoyable book that I think I might have read too deep into. LOL. If you're looking for a book that's got a bit of EVERYTHING, then this is it for you!

This is an awesome apocalyptic book full of excitement and twists! This is definitely a page turner, and the characters and descriptions pull you in and don’t let go. The author has a fantastic imagination and that really showed as I followed the characters on their journey.

I really loved the paranormal romantic thread that wove throughout this (sometimes gruesome) post-apocalyptic story. For me, this kept me on my toes and I didn’t know where the author was taking me next.

I highly recommend this book! It’s fast paced, creative, and intriguing!

A creative plot filled with magic, angels, warriors, ghouls, alpha wolf with some romance in the mix, The Second Coming of Hell is an apocalyptic story where Duncan and Rose attempt to save the world from a fallen angel gone rogue.

The characters are believable with their own motifs and flaws. There are uncounted laugh-out-loud dialogues with present day references. The author has done a good job incorporating religious elements into the work too, though the Jesus reference may put off some Christian readers.

Overall a great crossover of various genres.

A well-written book following, mainly, Duncan and Rose caught up in a huge firestorm that changes the way of the world, I found the storyline original and compelling, it crosses into the magical where Rose is a sorceress who is obsessed by Devlin. There are vampires, along with ghouls gnawing on limbs in this highly imaginative fast-paced story whose characters in their post-apocalyptical world are on a quest is to defeat a ghoulish ex-angel. The Second Coming of Hell is a highly imaginative story that I found refreshing and original, recommended.

I just finished The Second Coming of Hell, and it was a wild ride. This dark, post-apocalyptic fantasy throws you into a world of ghouls, fallen angels, magic and desperate survival. The story, centering on characters like Duncan and Rose,is fast-paced and full of danger, tension, and supernatural stakes. What I liked most was how the book blends horror, fantasy, and suspense, keeping me turning pages until the end.

If I had to pick one lesson I took from this book: even when the world seems lost, courage and solidarity can light the darkest path.

The Second Coming of Hell by Joshua Griffith was an interesting reading, one book mixed with all the best genres. This book has paranormal and romance / strong sexual moments. This book had everything from Vamps to Angels.

This book flows well and was a page-turner. There was a couple of parts that I had a hard time staying focused, but the hooks pulled me right back in. I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone eight-teen and over.

Now I know how Keith Richards does it!

I thought I was reading an apocalyptic rapture-type story and for the first two chapters, I was. (sticking my tongue out and gagging at the eyeballs charred in their sockets). Then we skip to the future. I am used to reading days of old tales where in the past there was magic and all manners of creatures, so having them evolve from the ashes was an interesting aspect.

The Second Coming of Hell by Joshua Griffith is a gripping and intense read that doesn’t hold back. The story is fast-paced, with high stakes and vivid, dark imagery that keeps you turning pages. Griffith’s characters are complex and believable, navigating a world full of moral ambiguity and tension.

This book is perfect for readers who enjoy dark thrillers with strong suspense and an unflinching look at human nature. It’s thrilling, thought-provoking, and impossible to put down.
