Thanks to Ricky Black for my copy of his prequel to the excellent, ‘Target’, the first In his series of crime thrillers set in Leeds starring Lamont Jones, A crime king pin.

This story, entitled ‘Origins ‘ is as stated a prequel and something of a coming of age story as Ricky Black fleshes out his enigmatic and cool as you like protagonist Lamont Jones and his younger years as he becomes a serious gangster.

Black has a talent in putting his words down with a verve and vibrancy that positively jump off the page.

His writing is slick and authentic and the stories are gritty but never feels dark as he expertly pens this tough realistic thriller that delves down into the underground of Leeds, the gangs and the drugs and the violence.

Ricky Black is one of the undiscovered gems in crime fiction. This is a series with the potential to be huge. A series with Television written all over it.

A story that positively sizzles. This prequel is an outstanding character led thriller and will only leave you ready to read more as Lamont and the crew grow ever stronger and influential.

Outstanding.

This story is an amazing and compelling life of the road to crime and how difficult it is to divert from that road. I worked in an alternative school, teaching math to kids who felt they had no choice. Some of them certainly do not seem to but some I think could make better choices. I am not saying I made a difference in the long run but at least for a moment I told one kid (I really like all of them), that he had a choice, did he want to live forever looking over his shoulder for the rival gang to strike. I was surprised later as I overheard him telling this to a friend. Did he stay out of trouble? I do not know but I hope so. They are just kids - some have so much more to give than what is seen. Teflon of this book (Lamont) is the same. More than that tough exterior that is needed to survive.

But, sorry for the tangent. This book is awesome and I think there are 2 more books coming out to continue this story and I believe this is an awesome setup for the upcoming book!. All should read this series!

Choices made...

Origins: The Road To Power: A Leeds Crime Fiction Novel is part of The Target Series. This story is about choices made in life and how they affect your future. The characters in this story are well developed and interesting. The storyline is fast-paced and engaging, with Lamont trying to succeed in the crime life while also trying to stay alive as rivals oppose him.

Took me back to chapel town and the vibrant area around, Teflon is the charismatic leader of an up and coming drug crew, follow his exploits as he changes from Lamont Jones to Teflon, ruthless and at times tragic we see the rise of the tardis as they clash with the Brits. Well written and shows an understanding of the area it's people and its villains. I can't wait to read the next installment " Target ".

Ok read

I what dislike about the book is how you skip some much had me lost . Like why skip about the part about your sister to find out she got married and had kid's. And what happen Reagan and old girl when did they break up, and what happen to him. But anyway the story is good.

Young man, and his sister went to live with their Aunt. Their parents were killed, and Auntie took all the earnings that should have gone in trust, for herself.
The young man, decided to start dealing drugs.
