Embrace the timeless teachings of the chakra system for peace of mind, better physical health, and a sense of alignment, fulfillment, and purpose. The key to optimal health and well-being is within us, in powerful energy centers called chakras. Ancient cultures understood the sacred healing power of chakras and that self-care aligned with nature. In Chakras & Self-Care, you'll engage in a series of meditative exercises that activate and balance each of your seven main chakras. Reiki master and wellness expert Ambi Kavanagh also offers daily and seasonal rituals to show us that true prevention not only comes from the ways we care for our bodies, but the ways we spend our energy. Chakras & Self-Care • Affirmation, visualization, and activation exercises to align and balance each chakra for improved energetic flow • A comprehensive guide to the seven main chakras plus astrological and elemental correspondences and goddess archetypes • Essential oil blend recipes and sacred stones to open and support each chakra • Daily rituals to recharge and restore your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health • Seasonal energy rituals to reconnect with nature's rhythms and lunar cycles
First off they keep saying to smudge your area. Smudging is a closed Native American practice that is a day long ritual. Someone can only learn it from the elder of a tribe. Second she tells you to put crystals into your Chakra balancing bath and neglects to inform you that certain crystals will dissolve in a bath. Third she says to put crystals in a jar of water, put it in the moonlight, and then use this water to make a tea. Certain crystals if you put them in your water will make you very sick. She doesn't tell you this or what crystals this is actually safe to do with. For someone who hasn't read other sources this is dangerous.
A good beginner's introduction to the chakras and energetic self-care. Nothing new here for those further along the path, but still an enjoyable, nurturing read. Nice graphics and layout. Easy to understand and visually appealing correspondence charts for each chakra. Perfect for someone new to the subject.
This I really did love! I've read a few "intro to chakras" type books and this is by far my favorite so far. I love using the Chakra as a vocabulary for self awareness. And this books takes it one step further, to encourage you to use that awareness for healing and care for yourself. Very nice resource.
Actually so good and informative and I never knew chakras were actually REAL - and brb buying all the crystals and sage bundles and apothecary scents in the world. A well balanced and mindful b**** has been unlocked.
It was very redundant. Each of the chakra visualizations were the same. A copy and paste with the name of the chakra changed. I see why this was at 5 below.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a helpful introduction to understanding my chakras and the associated stiles/oils/etc. it really helped me figure out how to check in with them and assess where my life has been out of balance.
Excellent introduction. It keeps everything very simple to get you started in your self-care journey. Worth taking your time to read through and really take in the information.
This was a pretty good intro to chakras. I'm just starting to dabble a bit in the subject -- still feels very hokey to me at times. But I enjoyed learning about the different chakras and their "purposes". I definitely want to know more as it relates to my yoga habit. I enjoyed a lot of the affirmations included here and look forward to trying some of the meditations.
I spent the last few years reading this book and testing out the rituals, including chakra cleanses that I completed before tying into guided kundalini exercises I love using on YouTube.
This has brought me intense joy, reflection and healing. Highly recommend for seasonal, monthly, and/or daily cycles of self-care.
This is a great Chakra intro book. It helped me having an understanding of each chakra, how they work and proper practice to cleanse our chakra. Highly recommend to beginners in their chakra journey.
Chakras & Self-Care: Activate the Healing Power of Chakras with Everyday Rituals. Written and narrated by: Ambi Kavanagh. 2020. Books on Tape. ISBN-13: 9780593401378 (Unabridged audiobook, 4 hrs, 51 mins).
Nice introduction to Chakras and how to incorporate them into your life. Learned a lot about how the different Chakras can help you in self-care and healing. Interested to try some of the suggestions in the book.
A little white-washed, sure. But I still found it useful and informative. If you’re not a beginner at this stuff, you’ll probably find the book to be basic.
I love tools that get me out of my head. This was an accessible guide to using rituals to check in physically. It fit with the idea that self-care wasn't a luxury. To me, it is a necessary maintenance practice for staying grounded and supporting my overall well-being.
One, I am a complete novice when it comes to chakras or anything to do with them, but I have been reading more and more 'esoteric' books. Two, I found this book for about $5 plus tax at my local 5 Below store, so I don't feel like I overpaid.
What I like: Very simple and easy to understand for newbies! I had started out trying to read C. W. Leadbeater's "The Chakras", but given that it was published in 1927 by a 'theosophist' (whatever that is), it wasn't really hitting the mark. I knew that 5 Below carried a lot of books about witchy, self-care, and esoteric stuff for cheap, so I went specifically looking for a chakra book, and found this! Compared to Leadbeater, it is VERY easy to understand and to read; the author isn't full of themselves, or seems obsessed with explaining her own experiences. In that regard, I'm really enjoying it, as well as the very simple to understand and generally doable exercises it suggests for someone who just wants to dive right in and try things for themselves without being bogged down with overly-long descriptions. (That kind of thing definitely has its place, and I may read through Leadbeater's book as a historical reference later, but it's not helpful for today's practitioner, I don't think.)
What I didn't like: I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, because there *is* some genuinely good stuff in this book. That being said, it *does* seem to suffer from the "buy a bunch of stuff you don't need" syndrome. It's always important to read any books of this kind with a grain of salt; don't just plunge in with whatever it says whole-hog without doing at least a *little* research! In general, I seriously doubt Buddhist monks are holding polished crystals or are worried about burning sage or anything else like that. Those things aren't BAD, but they are wholly unnecessary, IMHO. If one has something like that, or they can afford such things, go to town! But given that this is an Indian/Buddhist practice, it's important to keep the 'witchy' aesthetic separate from the genuine practice. (This is, perhaps one thing I *did* prefer about the little I read of Leadbeater; he actually spent time in India learning from the actual culture this stuff is from.) It's a bit of a weird thing to demand of one's audience, especially since Buddhism and Eastern Philosophy is all about eschewing physical possessions in favor of spiritual gains and enlightenment. I'm really not sure why it's in here at all.
All things considered, I give it a three out of five. Great for newbies, if you ignore the 'Buy this stuff!' push (which is really only useful if you're doing a Western witch path, and even then isn't necessary.) But, if you want something deeper that gets into the history and a more authentic experience, I doubt you will enjoy this book.
Update: I finished this book last week save for reading each of the "Chakra-Balancing Rituals" in the back of the book. My opinion still stands, especially since there seems to be deeper books out there on the subject. But, for a $5 purchase from a discount store, it's not a bad starting point!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As most other reviewers said, it’s a good introduction to the world of chakras and crystals. It has practical information about the basics of the matter. But honestly I felt like there was something missing, like it was just throwing a bunch of facts at you that you can easily get online or from any other source. However, considering the short length of the book I think it covers the basics and practical stuff, which is good for someone who doesn’t want to read a longer book.
Kavanagh offers a thoughtful intro to chakras and their role in holistic wellness. However, while the book covers the basics effectively, it often feels surface-level, offering a broad overview rather than deep insights. For readers already familiar with chakras, much of the content may feel repetitive or overly simplified. Additionally, the suggested rituals, while accessible, sometimes come across as generic or lacking the cultural depth one might expect when exploring such a rich spiritual tradition. Overall, Chakras & Self-Care is a decent starting point for beginners, but it may leave those seeking a deeper dive into chakra healing or spiritual practices wanting more. It’s like a sampler platter—good for a taste but not quite filling.
