When the Earth is threatened by a slowly expanding sun, mankind embarks upon a mission to send a mammoth Worldship to settle a new planet across the stars. The preternatural races step out of hiding to work with the humans to save what they can from their dying world. With the aid of the Fae, shape shifters, Vampires, and other creatures of supernatural lore, the Worldship, Leviathan, is complete one thousand years later.

With the Worldship adding the wayward Cityships to the slowly evolving fleet, it quickly becomes apparent that there will not be enough raw materials and supplies to make it to their new home without the sacrifice of thousands.

Knith leads a small crew on a volunteer mission, offworld, to acquire what they need... a new heart for the Leviathan.

What starts as wonder, being the first human to set foot an a new world, quickly becomes a fight for survival.

The fourth book of the Worldship Files. Overall I enjoyed it. Up until now the series has focused on fantasy and sci-fi working side by side. I got far more of a versus vibe in this book, that morphed into a symbiosis sort of feeling. The story itself was good, with the Morrigan wrapping up nicely, while the overall story of the series is really kicking up a gear.
It's good for anyone wanting to pick up or read the books out of order as relevant history of the world of Nith and the previous books is recapped, but having read them all in pretty small time frames it did feel a little painful having to hear it all again, but that is the way with more series I guess.
The humour remains spot on, though there was an anxious lack of historical music happening.
* ‘Nith, love please don’t try to flirt, you’re not very good at it and you’ve already won my heart.’
* I had questions but I knew now and probably never would be the right time to ask.
The writing hade a few moments of pulling me from the story, but the emotions and story were pretty awesome, especially as we learned more about Mother and the history of the Fae and creation of the Worldship.
A different narrator to the first three books was hard to get used to. The pacing I enjoyed better but I really missed the variety and uniqueness of voices, especially Rory's and Graz's.

The most prolific writer I know.

One thing great authors do is make you feel as if you are part of the story. Every time I finish one of his stories I feel as if I were leaving my friends. I know that the music of the soul series is finished, but my other friends in other series have occasion to interact with friends that are busy living a life far from me. I miss them but am so glad to know them. Luckily I can reread their stories and laugh and cry with them again, like perfect memories of good friends that I no longer have in my life.
Erik take good care of yourself, i want to read many, many more of your stories of your friends and mine.

I always enjoy these stories, but on occasions I found this one a bit perplexing. Just under half way through the author threw in a snippet of another story then left it just hanging there, I had to read it twice to make sure I hadn't missed a chapter. We find out a sort of reason at the end of the book, but it leaves far more questions than answers.
The second half of the book is an ‘away mission’ that keeps going wrong, I found this a bit too haphazard and some of the explanations didn’t always seem to make sense.
It is probably just me, but I think the story is outgrowing itself, if possible I would have given 3.5 stars.

Loved this one too. I've really enjoyed following Knith and her gang through their adventures. Got teary eyed a couple of times while reading this time. Looking forward to the next one.

Well, space me now!

Woowee! This one was hairy!

Ok, from the top...the Worldship needs a new heart if it is going support the life on the Leviathan and the Cityships. So, off goes Knith, Rory, Beta, and Mac/Oberon to find and bring back Morrigan; a huge asteroid that will fulfill the necessary elements to finish the journey to their new home.

Expect to get emotionally involved with this one! Definitely recommend, but read the series in order.

Loved this one!

Another great installment of the series with our favorite Human! NO SPOILERS HERE but I can't wait for the next book set to come out next year!! Knith is by far one of my most favorite characters to read right now. I've found every book in the series extremely enjoyable and fun to read with lil bit of intrigue just right for the story lines. Although pretty much each one is stand alone I recommend reading the books in order.

WTF!!! wait, wait, wait!!! how can one (author) leave us hanging like that with this books ending... really?! Come on! So many things I loved in this volume, daughter, father working together and forging that bond that has always been there but with hurt. The extraordinary challenges they faced to save the World and the CityShip's citizens was amazing and difficult at the same time. I am still fascinated with Graz and can't wait to see what amazing things she/it will bring to the next volume now that she's a Greater Sprite... I really love this character :-)

And what can I say about Knith and Rory and well now someone else too!?!!! Wow!!! Can't wait for the next book.

Awesome!

I can’t say enough how I love these characters. Knith, Graz, Rory and Oberon! Especially Mother. They come to life on these pages and you find yourself laughing, crying and tensing up as each new shift in the story. Wonderful story.

This is surface-wise a fun and light series with some inclusivity in regards to LGBTQ+, but also plenty of size-ism disguised as the main character being better than that (See Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series character Toot Toot for a better way of developing a seemingly small character into someone important). I've enjoyed the first four books and I think the concept of a worldship escaping the ending of plant Earth because the fae helped to make it happen and came along with was a very interesting concept. Fae in space!

However. It doesn't look like Schubach has any plan to end the series with a successful find of a new home for the wanderers. And since this is not my favorite series nor my favorite characters, I find that I've rather lost interest in the series itself. I have too many other things to read that will conclude and several favorite series that are ongoing that I'd rather follow.

Also, it pisses me off how dumb the humans are in regards to the fae. If I were living on a worldship with fae and this was it. There was no where else to go and the fae were going to be The Fae, my kids would be raised to survive any contact they might have with them. And yet Schubach's humans don't do that. They say "thank you" and make promises and they are dumb, dumb, dumb, fucking dumb. And the politicians are constantly being stupid with the fae too. So now poor humans get to be double teamed by rich humans and immortal fae and the real world situation right now makes this not light escapist fiction even though that's exactly the kind of writing it is. So...huh. I guess I'm quitting this series because I deeply hate aspects of it. Wow.

"Read" via Audible. Another good addition to the series. A little bit too much rehashing of certain points for the other stories. At this point, the book really can't be read as a stand alone story. You have to have read the others to understand what is going on even with all the background exposition. The biggest complaint I have has to do with the Audible version. The reader from the first three books (Claire Buchignani) was replaced. The new reader did not work for me at all. She read the story too fast and at times I could tell she did not get the rhythm of the sentence correct at all and it took a minute to figure out what was being said. I can get past the different interpretation of a character's voice by different readers. I have had is happen several times by other authors books in a series. But the reader (Jacqueline MacDonald) did not do the story justice in my opinion.
I am looking forward to the next installment as this one is left on a serious cliff hanger.

Meh, flat and uninspired
I love Erik Schubach. I hate to give him a bad review, but this book doesn't go anywhere. Most everything that happens in this book could have been condensed into a footnote or a few chapters of the next book.
There are some new characters introduced, and I suspect this is meant to be a transitional book that lays out the backstory of future events. But I was underwhelmed wile reading this.

Interesting Direction

Well as with all the books from Erik I have read I enjoyed this story. I feel it lacks something I can't out a finger on when compared to the Valkyrie and fairy tale series. But the ending was an unexpected surprise. Knith and Aurora are a cute couple 💑.
