THE ART OF BEING PRIVATE: Building In Silence

Rate this book
Early 2019, I was pondering about what being private really means in my day to day life, the Holy Spirit immediately answered me with a vivid vision of what happens when I share my private life with others. He showed me people gathered in the living room, some sitting on the sofas, some standing and still some couldn’t even fit because the room was crowded as they all faced and looked at me; I was shocked! He said, “you have invited them all, they all come inside your house when you share your life". From then on I understood that being private is not just about protection, like in the case of Elizabeth who hid herself for 5 months when she was pregnant with John the Baptist (Luke 1:5-25), no, it’s also about wisdom and humility. I had to ask myself, am I prepared to invite everyone in my house concerning A, B or C? From then on, it was imperative for me to learn from Christ, the art of being Private. There are days I want to share my happiest private moments, my new breakthroughs, my plans & goals but then I remember, is it necessary, what is my motive, what is the purpose? Am I seeking man’s applause? The heart of this book is to show you the Truth that you may be set free if you struggle with being private and if you seek man’s applause as you hide behind the things you share with people. There's a price to pay for your identity, for the anointing on your life, for your destiny, your blessings and your life purpose and calling. There are beautiful qualities and virtues that are confounded in the acts of being private. I pray that as you read this book and discover these qualities, the Holy Spirit of God will help and empower you to put to practice these qualities and wisdom shared in this book, in your day to day life, finding the inner peace and joy through Jesus Christ as you make those discoveries, steps and choices, Amen.

Promising but falls short

3.5 stars

I admire the author for her self-love and beauty content on YouTube, and learning that she was also a woman of Faith made me intrigued by this book. The ART OF BEING PRIVATE is partly a guidebook, part sermon on how living a private, intuitive lifestyle where you, God, and your spouse are at your center—-all the noise of fake friends, prying family members, town gossipers, fraudulent people of social media, and the like should fade to the background. The main reasoning being, in order to prosper you have to be true to yourself and not rely on other people for validation or confidence, only you and the Lord can do that. I think this is a great starter for people who are at a crossroads in their life where they feel constantly deceived and misguided by people who they “spill” all their business to, with no positive gain in return, but I felt this book was only good for just that—-appealing to one very narrow specific person.

It’s better than other religious self help book I’ve read, and I have to give credit that there’s some solid advice and even prayer examples for the reader, but this book didn’t move me in any way, and I found the one-note examples a bit too vague. I’d also hoped there’d be more personal anecdotes from the author on how she followed her steps (which really aren’t steps but general advice for certain situations), but her personal life and testimony is only mentioned in the beginning.

I think this book could have benefited more with more personal testimonies from the author , more editing to make it easier to read , and perhaps even a co-sign by the authors husband, whom she attributes a lot of gratitude towards.

Excellent Confirmation

God has called me into a season of silence. Silence from engaging in family dynamics of toxic levels. This teaching confirmed for me that I made the right decision to remove myself from social media years ago and recognize that even the best intended social media platforms, (the Bible app) can trap a person into comparison. Grateful for the confirmation that leading a quiet life is biblical and fruitful. I pray that the Holy Spirit guides me to apply the principles from this book.
I'm not a writer but I was distracted by the spelling of quite a few words. Has the English language changed or is this an artistic way of writing? (Favour vs favor; realise vs realize; learnt vs learned)

Interesting read.

This book has helped to make me reflect on the whys of what I share with others and why, as a woman of God who is wonderfully and fearfully made, I should respectfully work on minding my own business -- physically and spiritually.

Some parts of the book seemed to be a bit redundant, and there were many, many typos in my copy... If Ms. Madyara, or any other author, needs an efficient copyeditor... I'm your girl!!

All in all, this was a quick read jam packed with nuggets of wisdom.

Apt book for such a time as this

In an era where we are conditioned to splatter our lives on every social media platform available, this book gives key reminders to how we are meant to steward our lives well, and also how to guard ourselves and everything that God places into our hands. Yes, we are meant to be a light in the world, but just as good light when under extraordinary amounts can actually cause harm, so it is for our lives, thank you Dephne for this amazing book and your entire ministry, such a blessing.

A much needed book for such times.

This was definitely a much needed book. I consider myself a private person, but it helps to know why and have the Word of God back it up.
