Plot was good but delivery of the book wasn’t great.

Lauren is back in her hometown after somehow messing up her life in San Francisco and she’s now stuck in this town watching her longtime crush and ex best friend hook up. She and her friend Roxie are drinking at the bar when a game of truth or dare between them leads Lauren to seduce the next woman who walks through the door. Lauren is reluctant to carry out the dare at first but changes her mind when she sees that its Emma, her old schoolmate at the door. Emma is now hot, so Lauren goes for it and Emma is almost completely charmed by her, marking the start of a relationship that both sides are not prepared to have. Both Lauren and Emma have pasts of their own that have scarred them emotionally. We are let in on what these pasts are along the way in the book. And so, much of this book is about them overcoming their fear, learning to trust someone again in the bedroom and sexual exploration. As the blurb implies, there is some mild kink in this book though nothing hardcore. In fact, kink is one of the main themes but its more to show that liking kink is normal and nothing to be ashamed about.

I think the concept is great, but I got frustrated reading this book because the first bar scene between Lauren and Emma was so awkward and cheesy it made me want to skim through the first few pages. Then the two start sleeping together somewhere in the book but the sex was always dampened with a lengthy sex education somewhere in between which was a mood killer for me.

And so at this point, I must say that Lauren has got to the most patient and considerate lover ever because Emma was a handful to deal with. I was bemused that Emma was always confused about what she wanted out of Lauren, be it a one-night stand, short term relationship or a happy-ever-after. She was also an oddball in the bedroom, shifting from the nervous stereotypical town librarian to hot seductress so quickly its almost as though she has a split personality sometimes. And while I agree with the importance of setting boundaries, the need to explain kink in great detail to Emma was painful and confusing.

This book is more like an introductory lesson on kink rather than a kinky erotica. While I liked the plot, I didn’t quite like the delivery as much.

In this book, no really does mean yes.

The plot. Outcast and pariah, Lauren West, is back in Sunrise Falls after life in San Fransisco kicked her in the teeth. Hating the small town and all it stands for, Lauren can't wait to head back home but is bowled over by the town librarian and pin-up girl come to life, Emma Prescott. Emma is all she wants; sweet, wholesome and kinkier than a garden hose but is it enough to make Lauren stay in a town that hates her?

The characters. I wasn't always too sure what to make of either MC but it didn't take anything away from the overall story. Lauren, for all her hang-ups and reservations still made me want to wrap her in emotional bubble wrap while Emily just fascinated me with her interest in consensual non-consent.

The writing. There are some writers out there that are a bloody tease and Sandy Lowe is one of them. She did it in Party Games and she did it again in this book. I'm talking about the type of scene that makes your jaw drop and then leaves you feeling like someone dumped a bucket of cold water on your head. Mind you, I'm not complaining one bit. Tease away Ms. Lowe!

The special. Make no mistake, consent is absolutely sexy but sometimes you just want someone to shove you against the front door and fuck your brains out with their hand covering your... uhm. Never mind, moving on. Nothing to see here!

The negative. There were a few moments when the narrative dragged a little and I wanted more time with Lauren and her mom. The only other thing I can think of was that sometimes it felt like the characters spent a little too much time overanalyzing everything.

The verdict. Need to indulge in a fantasy or two? Something that will leave you hot and bothered? Try not to think too hard when reading this, pour a glass of wine and get comfortable as Sandy Lowe gets your heart thumping. Overall rating is a 3.5*.

This was a fun read. If You Dare by Sandy Lowe is an erotic romance novel about two women who seem on the surface to be total opposites and completely incompatible. They meet at the Grumpy Goat Bar in their hometown of Sunshine Falls, a small town in New York State. In spite of Lauren West’s reputation as a “bad girl” and librarian Emma Prescott’s “good girl” persona, the two connect very quickly. They gradually realize when it comes to matters of the heart and their desires, they may not be that different after all.

This story is funny, erotic, and romantic. There is also some heartache in the tale, mostly involving the two women’s pasts, especially Lauren. It is mostly there to add conflict to the story. There is, of course, a lot of sexy times between these two. Some of them involve light BDSM elements. There is also some role play in the tale. I will state here that one of those role playing scenes involves Lauren and Emma pretending to have non-consensual sex. This is just a cautionary note for those who may have problems reading about that.

This is an excellently written erotic romance. I connected with Lauren and Emma immediately, and it’s easy to see their chemistry. I also believe that the Grumpy Goat is one of the best names for a bar ever. I can definitely recommend this novel to all who love a good romance with lots of steamy sex.

Sandy Lowe's name was so familiar I thought I'd read a book by her before, but I didn't, she is the editor of a lot of books I've read and she's always mentioned in the acknowledgments. As part of my day job I write marketing texts, if I hit a roadblock I ask my editor to write the text for me. Whenever she has written something it is perfectly fine, but something in the writing style is just a bit off for me, it doesn't read like it is meant to be enjoyed or something, I don't know. I felt the same with this book, it took me a couple of chapters to get into it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the writing, it's just different.

Lauren is back in her small-minded hometown. She never fit in the small town of Sunrise Falls and now everyone is talking about the mess she made of her life in San Francisco. When Lauren is out with her best friend Roxie she takes a dare that might change her life. Emma walks into the bar and she becomes the object of the dare, but also so much more. Lauren instantly forgets about the dare, but still wants to hook up with Emma. Emma and Lauren both have insecurities/ issues that come from their childhood, but the people they have become seem to fit perfectly. Their fantasy, how weird I might find them, are in line with each other. They fit, but will the small town be too small for them to live their lives?

Honestly, maybe I should have paid more attention to the blurb, the final line: Reader Advisory: If You Dare contains explicit fantasies of non-consent. I missed it. If I had seen it I think I would have skipped this book. In the end, the fantasies didn't really bother me as much as I thought, but it also wasn't very enjoyable for me to read. The book has some character development that is rather important to the fantasy storyline and some development that is important as a character. The bits just about the characters, away from their fantasies, are what I like best. The story itself isn't very interesting, it's very much inst-love/ insta-lust/ inst-everything, small town small-mindedness and nothing more. It's fine if you are into this sorta thing, but for me it is just a bit lacking. Combined with a writing style apparently all editors have it wasn't the most enjoyable book for me, and as I said, part of it might be my own fault for not registering all of the blurb in my mind.

Ehrm....I knew what I was getting into with Ms. Lowe's work, but I continue to be a little stumped after finishing this. The writing itself was good, but the story felt more like a sex ed class. I felt info-dumped-on, then BLAMMO, non-consensual sex fantasies being played out together? Head spin.

The plot was weak and dragged on somewhat, and there were secondary characters and storylines that I so wish got more play, but it appears Ms. Lowe really wanted to just focus on the BDSM education. I felt I didn't get enough of the characters, the backstory, and was a little numb to MC Lauren. She came across as whiny and immature. Emma was more fascinating, but whew did she need a lot of handholding. And educating. Did I mention the info-dump? Yep.

“It’s not the struggle that makes it hot. It’s the surrender. It’s being the one you surrender to.”

I think we can safely put this one down as not for everyone; it could have very easily been not for me. But except for one major thing that stymied my enjoyment, I fairly enjoyed this book, Sandy Lowe's writing style, the conversations that her characters had, and their chemistry.

The one major thing actually isn't the kink. I'm always down for d/s and power play, and while there was some consensual non-consent that got a bit too intense for me, I actually really appreciated all the conversations that were had about kinky lifestyles, and getting to know and accept yourself enough to confront and ask for what you want. There is a fair amount of sex in this book, but a lot of it is also just talking about sex; the characters unpacking their trauma, the characters negotiating with each other, the characters getting to know each other. The talking and openness was really refreshing. Lauren and Emma don't magically understand one another right off the bat, or magically click together, and I like that the book showed that they had to get better at communication for their relationship to work. Their chemistry was really intense; an absolute delight. (Also Emma's had a crush on Lauren since high school, and I'm a slut for pining.) I'm also a huge fan of the writing style.  It was really fast and snappy and clever and insightful in a lot of ways, and made the reading experience go by really quickly. Other than a few jokes here and there that I didn't really enjoy, I thought it was excellent, and I'll readily read from this author again.

Also I love this cover! It's so swoony.

The one thing that tanked my enjoyment was the pacing. It was insta-love city over here. Sometimes insta-love is written in a way that I don't mind or I enjoy. Sometimes it's just a thing that I accept about a book. But here it was so frustrating because I really think that without that element, this would just flat out to be a better book. I said above that these characters don't instantly understand each other; they misconstrue each other's feelings and they're not 100 percent on the same page all of the time. I liked that, it's natural for the beginning of a relationship. (And I liked the fact that the misunderstandings didn't go on for too long; they worked to resolve them.) But for those same characters to be declaring undying love for each other a very short time later seems so very silly and unbelievable. The book takes place between Christmas and New Year's Eve, if you want to know just how insta-love we're talking. Yes, they were acquainted in high school, but still!

The important themes in this book were exploring yourself, being comfortable with yourself and your desires, confronting uncomfortable experiences in your past and how they may (or may not!) inform how you are as a person today. There were meaningful character arcs. The characters had great chemistry. But they did not need to declare love. This would have worked so much better as an HFN, with hints towards how they could fall in love in the future. Tack on an epilogue one year later, if you really needed to. Trying to pigeonhole this into an HEA just made the story suffer, in my opinion.

I really wanted to like this one more, but I still think overall it's a good book. You'll enjoy it if you like kink and don't mind insta-love. I'd love to read more from Lowe in the future, especially if it's better paced/more concentrated on the journey of the relationship.

This is a steamy novel revolving around two women exploring their joint exotic sexual desires. It was a quick read with some pretty hot moments, however, at times, the plot seemed forced and all pulled together a little too quickly. I wanted more story line around the two main characters and maybe more time creating their connection. Some of the issues they were forced to overcome were definitely heart breaking, but other times the struggles seemed inconsequential and hard for me to empathize with.

Besides making jokes about someone's ex because they were bisexual, which is never cool with me, I ended up liking this book more than I thought I would.

To be honest, I picked this book up after seeing a few reviewers say they didn't like the consensual non-consent part. It's such a little understood kink, I was excited to see how this author pulled it off. Unfortunately, the scene/s lacked the edge I expected to feel with such a potent form of power exchange.

Kink aside, the author has created two very likable characters, and as a character-driven reader, I settled into this story and ended up enjoying it.

Reader Advisory: If You Dare contains explicit fantasies of non-consent.

Sandy Lowe told me about this book back in December 2019, so to say I’ve been patiently waiting has been an understatement. I love reading erotica, it’s one of my favourite genres, but this one interested me. Not only did it sound incredibly sexy, but I like when authors really push the limits on sex and show other sides to sexual dynamics that we are never exposed to in the real world.

What I loved about this book was how likeable both the characters are. They really drew me into the story and had me excited to go on their kinky journey with them. Lauren and Emma’s opposites attract dynamic was fantastic and really drew me in especially because it’s a trope I always enjoy. What I especially liked was the town sweetheart falling for the bad girl. And oh! Boy does Lauren radiate the sexy bad girl motif. But there is a softer side to Lauren, she doesn’t always show the world, and I think that’s what pulled me to her character development the most.

Emma reminded me of a kinky Miss Honey from Matilda. And this Miss Honey fan was so very excited to see Emma go from a shy, reserved to all out kinky lady. Emma was 100%, my favourite character. To watch her gain courage and tenacity throughout the book was a real turn on… maybe even more than her sexual fantasies! Maybe… just maybe!

The passion and heat were why I started this book, and I wasn’t disappointed, it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy the story and journey with the characters just as much.

The sex scenes in this book are not for the faint-hearted and will push your boundaries. Sandy Lowe really makes sure she ticks all the boxes on consensual non-consent making sure that not only her characters are comfortable in the dynamic but also the reader.

Well Damn!!! These two set the sheets on fire. I was worried for like a second my book would set alight. WOW! There is also an intimate connection between Emma and Lauren as well. They become protective of each other and genuinely want happiness.

I love when an author pushes the boundaries, plays outside of the “Lesfic” box and to write outside of their comfort zone. Sandy Lowe did this with If You Dare. It’s sexy, intriguing, and everything this erotica fan is looking for in 2020.

Lauren is stuck in her hometown for the holidays she doesn’t want to be there especially when everyone is talking about the mess she made of her life. While drowning her sorrows she plays a game of truth and dare and when she dared to seduce the next person that comes in when Emma comes in she thinks things could be looking up.

Emma is a librarian but she has dirty mind but when she was a teenager something painful happen and she close herself off suppress her sexual desires. When Emma meets Lauren she wonders if she the one can break her free what amazes Emma more is that Lauren may have the same sexual desires that she does.

This was a good read I like both main characters the chemistry and the dialogue was great sexual desires was hot that had me drinking cold water.

2.5 Stars. Lauren West is back in her hometown for the holiday, in a town where she thinks no one likes her, since her mother has a bad rep in the town. Her best friend dares her to seduce the first woman who walks into the bar. That woman is Emma Prescott. Emma is the town librarian and has had a crush on Lauren for a long time. Emma has intimacy problems and thinks Lauren might be able to help her and understand.

This book is okay. I mean, the plot only made a little bit of sense and the characters fell in love way too quickly. The characters at first, didn't seem to have a lot of chemistry and I did not really ever feel like they were a good couple. The book was not that well written which could be why I did not like it. There was a lot of drama between the two main characters and the town, which I did not enjoy. This book overall was not that great and I would not recommend it. It did have a lot of descriptive sex, and if thalis what you are looking for in a book, then this book is for you.

I was really looking forward to reading If You Dare. I have read a couple of short stories by Lowe and also read Party of Three. I must say that this one did not work for me. I found the story uninspiring and boring. I found myself skimming through the book just to finish. For sure this wasn't for me.

"Nuclear chemistry sounds amazing, but i want dinner first."
Lauren frowned. "You're hungry?"
"No. Tomorrow, I want dinner before sex. Not a date exactly, but not a casual fuck either."

What started as a dare escalated to something else.

Lauren West, returning to her hometown from San Francisco is not happy to be back. Having left her small town that once besieged her with judgement, gossip and scrutiny, she has returned to a place she has no business to be back in. Dared to approach meek town librarian Emma Prescott after drinks, that something else happened.

The book speaks the language of hot. Twitching in seat, wide eyed, heart rate pumping kind of hot. Expect hot scenes playing out in the minds of the leads, in public, behind closed doors and in your head.

That does not mean that there is no depth to the book. Characters are flawed, escapists, they have issues that run deep but make them human. The author's blend of the pair left the impression that it was all physical but revealed so much more. She made loving the characters easy.

I adore Emma. The unassuming, reassuring and non judgemental Emma. And also the Emma that carried strength in her quietness yet was loud in her passions. A highly recommended read for the rich characterisations and highly charged kinky sex scenes (if it is your cup of tea).

This isn't your typical romance novel. The book really focused on the romantic aspect, and there wasn't much other development.
Lauren West is stuck back home in her small hometown where everyone is gossiping about her and the mess she left in San Francisco. Sitting at the bar with her best friend, they play a game of Truth or Dare that has Lauren seducing the next woman who walks through the bar's door, Emma Prescott. Emma, a librarian who is good girl with a dirty mind, is anxious and scared of her own desires because of a painful teenage experience. However, when Lauren kisses her, Emma thinks that maybe she can finally break free from her anxiety.
This book is really steamy and kinky. It was written well in that aspect, but there wasn't really a story. The characters were rounded and had a background and traumatic experiences, but that was about it. The book was really focused on sex and not on creating a connection. If you like those types of books, then this is for you. However, if you want a better and more developed plot line, then you should probably skip this book. I personally wanted more of a plot line; however, the book itself is not bad, it is just not what I thought it was.

This book contains mature content (ages: 16+).

This is my first time reading a book by Sandy Lowe. Although I’m not really into non-consent stuff, I kinda like the plot and the development of the storyline. Both MCs went through a traumatic teenage years which somehow they used to hide their “true” selves. I like how their characters were “set free” by one another. The MCs really clicked with each other..... they complemented each other very well. All in all it was a good read and would recommend it to others.

Lowe needed a page just before chapter one entitled, ‘Preliminary Safety Instructions’.

Then a single sentence...

‘Fasten your seatbelt’

Lowe’s writing is whip-fast. I don’t think I’ve come across another writer like her. It’s actually like she’s narrating the story rather than writing it. I can hear her—as the author (I don’t know what Sandy Lowe actually sounds like)—speaking every bit of text, like she’s driving and monologuing to me; you know how people do when they wave their hands about, flicking them off the steering wheel and their gestures are the punctuation. It’s quite astonishing and really, really fun.

And safe. And that’s okay because I have my seatbelt on. I’m glad I used a car analogy because this story is about trust and believing that the other person is right there with your metaphorical seatbelt, particularly when it comes to sex, role play scenarios, and enacting fantasies. An incredible amount of research regarding consensual non-consensual role play and delving into the psychology of being present while enacting fantasies was done for this book. It’s been written with careful intent. Lowe’s analysis of motivation, and need—in its absolute purest form—and levels of trust is shown through Lauren and Emma’s intense relationship. It is a quick-fire, fast-burn story. BUT running parallel is a slow-burn plot in that Lauren and Emma have to learn to be vulnerable in sex-play, taking time to remove the walls that they’ve built from past hurts, and therefore the easy slide into romance makes sense.

The erotica/sex detail in ‘If You Dare’ is amazing but this isn’t simply a book about the ‘what’ of sex. It’s also about the ‘why’ of sex. It’s about communication, and interestingly, the talking is where the Kindle turns into an exploding mess of wires and a melted screen. Smoke, even. Also flames. So good.

KJ

Also…just thought I’d mention that authors are not their characters, just like actors are not their characters. So if a character says something that’s a bit ick, it’s the character, not the author saying it.

This is a story of two broken women who grew up in a small provincial town in New York, Sunrise falls where everyone knows your business or makes up siliceous stories about your business. Both women had been very hurt and humiliated by the gossip about them, and have not been able to get over the hurt and the damage that was caused. Lauren move back to the town from California after a very humiliating event that cost her her job and friendships. She meets Emma one night and that is the start of an amazing story. The sexual energy between these two women is astronomical however both women have different issues regarding sex but the pool between them is so strong that when they do get together it always ends and disappointment for both women. However it is that sexual pull. That slowly through sex and kindness these two broken women talk about their past and why they have these different sexual activities each of them is embarrassed about, Through their processing about these issues it, finally allows both women to see a different life for them is possible.
When the town gossip gets too much for both women Lauren tries her best to convince Emma to move to California with her. However Emma can’t move from the town because she owes the town a debt for pain her college loans in return she must work for the town for E amount of years. If she moves she would be in debt over her head and have no job. With this dilemma in mind both of the main characters have a lot to work out.

The author has written such incredible dialogue between the two main characters that expose powerful and healing against all odds it makes you wonder if love can conquer all? This book also has hot off the charts type of sex woven throughout the book, The book is extremely well written and clearly will be on my to be read again list.

Woah.
This is my first read of Sandy Lowe's, I will be honest, I picked it up because of the consensual non-consent element, and of course, because she's an Aussie lol I will definitely be hunting for more.

Truth or Dare has bever been more fun... or life-changing.
While drinking away her sorrows with her best friend after being fired in a big scandal, Lauren is dared to sleep with the next woman to walk through the door.

And in walks the seemingly quiet and shy librarian, Emma.
She has had a crush on Lauren since school and she is far from quiet behind closed doors.

Both characters have some past issues from childhood but seem to be, dare I say, perfect for each other.

Such amazing characters that are so lovable, and the sex... again, Woah!

“It’s not the struggle that makes it hot. It’s the surrender. It’s being the one you surrender to.”

There isn't too much I can say without giving you everything.
Grab this little baby and go in with an open mind, it most certainly will be worth it.

3.75 for me on this one. I loved the idea of the plot line, but I really wished there had been more exploration in the romance part of the main’s relationship with each other.

In the beginning we find out that Emma has a had a crush on Lauren since high school and so the fact that Lauren is now hitting on Emma is a big deal, but as their relationship progresses, we never hear about this unrequited crush again after they start dating. The leap to “I love you” moved a little too fast for me when it came to Lauren’s feelings as well. Lauren has been nursing an unrequited crush of her own on a different person from her hometown and then suddenly she sees Emma in the bar and all other feelings go out the window for the person she previously had feelings for? Also, the angst was a little too high for me in this one. It felt like a was getting whiplash at some points because it was like “I like you and want you” to “I want you but I’m not just a notch in your bedpost” to “I have baggage surrounding a traumatic experience and I can’t trust you because I don’t believe that your feelings are genuine outside of wanting to have sex”. Not to mention the previous trauma that Emma suffers severe anxiety from is made out to the reader like she’s a sex-addict who attends 12-step meetings for it, when she is actually just carrying the weight of a traumatic experience from her teens (understandably so).

So, all in all it was an alright read. Definitely steamy and fun but the story line had some big potholes with lots of potential that I didn’t feel like we got to see.

Lauren West left San Francisco for her hometown during the holidays, where she is less than content. That is until a dare that puts her face-to-face with the town librarian Emma Prescott. Emma is the town’s good girl with an active dirty mind. Will Lauren be the one to make her dreams come true?

I was excited to read this book, especially since the summary suggested some light BDSM and steamy scenes and was marketed as erotica. Sandy Lowe's shorts are great. The characters had great chemistry and were interesting and well developed so I had high hopes and I was willing to read not so interesting, lengthy description, parts. However, it wasn't as steamy as I was expecting, it was just a normal book with some sex scenes that really weren’t that erotic due to the lengthy descriptions and other inconsistencies. The writing is still excellent and I enjoyed all the supporting characters. The relationship between Lauren and Emma was the best part of the book, but without the full erotica side of this book the other parts fell a little flat and could have been developed more. This is the first full length novel by Sandy Lowe and I look forward to what comes next.

There were some good parts to this book and a few scenes that made me really like the character of Lauren, but overall, this book was too much and not enough at the same time. There was absolutely too much talking and not nearly enough sex. The author really needs to work on her dialogue. I can tell she likes Jane Austen cause God is she wordy. As I was reading I kept thinking about all the lines I could cut from this book that would have zero impact on the story and how she could've filled those lines with more meaningful scenes between Lauren and Emma. Maybe throw in some scenes with Lauren's mom who had a huge influence on the character of Lauren. I'd also add more scenes about Lauren as a kid and why Emma even crushed on her in high school in the first place. Lowe just glazed over the important stuff.
And the voice? It felt like I was reading fanfiction for 95% of the book. She needs to tighten up her metaphors and work on giving her characters more distinct voices, and not try so hard with the kink stuff. The last few chapters felt like a PSA for Kink, which seemed super unnecessary considering who her target audience is. We don't need a lecture on being different.

Great read and very steamy. This book is not going to be for everyone. There are plenty of warnings about its content so pay attention. Or join the new world and keep an open mind. Just because something is not your thing doesn’t mean it's wrong. Like for example some people don’t like a lot of dialog during the intimate scenes, this book has a lot of that. I love dialog during sex scenes and in these specific ones, with this content, dialog is extremely important.

I appreciate the tackling of the subject matter. The more this is out there the more main stream it will become, and people will feel more comfortable expressing themselves openly.

I do feel like I wish they had more time together going on more dates/non-dates spread out over time so it wasn’t so insta love but that’s just my personal preference. Definitely recommend this book for those with open minds. If outside the vanilla box isn’t your thing then probably best not to read.

This story addresses an issue that may be controversial for some people, light BDSM, although it has been not as explicit as others. But it’s not just about that and for me it’s been a really convoluted story, bordering on nonsense.

So much mental battle inside and between the two protagonists has sometimes been exhausting and that is what this story has the most. And the sexual encounters between them have also been a bit confusing, although as I am not an expert in these practices, I would not want to detract from their interest.

Neither Emma nor Lauren represent stereotypes of those who usually compose stories on this subject, I’m quite sure of that, so I don't think it will satisfy those who appreciate it.

I wish it was more interesting, but for me it hasn’t been enough.

Publisher Bold Strokes Books was kind enough to provide me with an advanced reading copy via Netgalley for my honest review

Lauren West has returned to her small-town home after fired from her job following a very public scandal with her former boss's wife. During a drinking session with her friend she is dared to sleep with the next girl to walk into the bar, that happens to be Emma Prescott. Emma is the sweet local librarian who's childhood crush just happens to be Lauren. Little did Lauren know that Emma has quite the imagination.
This is my first Sandy Lowe book and she certainly has a knack for writing erotic sex scenes. The sex scenes are incredibly steamy and just go on and on and on. Oh my! For me the storyline became secondary to the sex and the psychological meaning for Lauren and Emma as they navigate the boundaries of their relationship. In the end I didn't really care about the storyline, I was reading it for sex scenes! I'll definitely be reading more of Sandy Lowe's books!

I really liked this book. It's short, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do. It's really steamy, with well written sex scenes.

We follow Emma and Lauren after they meet at a bar and develop tension between them. They follow up in their desires and there's the possibility that it may turn out to be more.

I want to highlight how well written the sex scenes are. They talk during sex about consent, negotiation and they talk about how each of them is doing. They are always checking with each other and I loved it. Plus, it's hot.

My only complaint is that there's not much more to it than the hook ups. We learn about the characters but we don't see them interact much outside of the hooking up.

Overall, I would recommend this story for anyone looking for a well written lesbian erotica.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Lauren had her life on track until it all goes to shit in a very public way. Now she is back in her small town and boo-hooing the state of her life with her best friend at the local watering hole. Said best friends wants Lauren to get out of her funk so she dares her to have sex with the next woman who walks through the door. In walks small-town librarian Emma, who has no idea how hot and exciting her life is about to get! These 2 ladies carry a lot of personal baggage, but they somehow work. That being said I wasn’t sure if I would like this premise of this story, but it really did do it for me. I’ve never found words so arousing before. This author can definitely write SEX! I will be checking out more of her books. I received an advanced copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for a review.

If You Dare by Sandy Lowe
Publisher: Bold Strokes Books, Inc.
Genre: LGBTQIA | Romance
Release Date: December 15, 2020

If You Dare by Sandy Lowe is a steamy romance filled with chemistry.

I enjoyed the story line featuring Lauren and Emma and seeing them work through their issues and scars caused by the same small town. The chemistry between them was intense and the romance was very steamy!

I loved that their was depth to the characters and that we were able to see them work through their issues together, grow, and help their small town not be so narrow-minded.

I found the story to be funny and heartwarming. I look forward to future books by the author.

I wish I could give this book more stars.
Sandy Lowe's writing style is funny, to the point and gets under your skin when needed.

In my opinion the representation of kink, importance of consent and trauma responses are spot on.

However, the plot feels rushed. Conflicts get opened and resolved in what feels like three sentences, some scenes are so much out of character for the protagonists that it hurts to read just to push them to the next level.

The sex scenes are written beautifully if they are not broken up with lengthy discussions and what feels like therapy sessions. It breaks the mood one too many times and you can't really recover once that happened.

Overall, it was a nice read and is perfect for a day at the pool if you don't have too high expectations.
