Atene, 399 a.c. In quello che può essere ricordato come il primo processo per reati di opinione, Socrate viene condannato a morte. Accusato di corrompere la gioventù con dottrine atee, la linea difensiva del filosofo è intransigente e provocatoria. Viene così condannato a bere la cicuta da una maggioranza ancora più ampia dei giurati, e una volta in carcere, in attesa dell’esecuzione, rifiuta di fuggire per non violare quelle leggi a cui è sempre stato devoto.

In pratica è l'apologia di Socrate a fumetti. E come al solito accade con Beccogiallo, testo e disegni sono di alta qualità

This is a comic adaptation of the story told in the Apology / Crito / Phaedo trilogy of Socratic dialogues written by Plato. In other words, it's the tale of the trial and execution of Socrates on charges of impiety and corrupting the youth. This is the most intense story told in Plato's dialogues, and both the source material and this adaptation are highly readable and viscerally gripping stories.

This is not a strict telling of the trilogy and includes background material found in other dialogues (Euthyphro, Gorgias, and Symposium) as well as from Greek Mythology (a little as is relevant to the story.)

If you want to know the story of the trial and execution of Socrates, this is a quite readable way to learn about it.

Beautifully drawn, well done biography

I read this out of curiosity after seeing it as a recommendation from Amazon. A beautifully illustrated book depicting the trial and execution of Socrates, this graphic novel would be perfect for middle through high school classes. Definitely recommend to fans of graphic novels and anyone interested in ancient Greece or philosophy. My only gripe, if a little nitpicky, is that the translation was a little stiff at times, and there were a few grammatical errors. Most definitely worth the read, regardless.

Sócrates, padre de la filosofía es sentenciado a juicio por "corromper la mente de los jóvenes" y "no creer en los dioses que atenas seguía".
Este libro narra como este se defendió con el arma más letal en ese entonces, más letal que cualquier espada o lanza, más letal que cualquier veneno, la palabra.
Me gustó mucho este libro, definitivamente entiendes los razonamientos de socrates y su razón de ser, del como alguien es sabio sin ser sabio, de la filosofía en esa era, del profundo sentimiento que le tenían sus pupilos, de verdad muchas gracias a los autores por semejantes ilustraciones, investigación y referencias a otros libros y costumbres de la epoca que se mencionan en los libros de Platón.

The book is nice and has a lot of information about Greek mythology which I hadn’t known before but reading it on Kindle was a real torture. I think comics should not be read on Kindle, the script is too small and zooming in is very dodgy. In general it’s a nice comic book but avoid reading it on Kindle.

Lovely art work grounds the retelling of the trial & execution of Socrates in a very believable ancient Athens. Would be a nice introduction for a young person. Was a very satisfying presentation even for one who has read Plato.

Accurate but uninspired

Ai tempi ho preso addirittura 10 in pagella in Filosofia al terzo anno di superiori. Mai voto fu più falso: il prof ha dato 10 a me e alla Silvia solo perché eravamo le uniche a stare attente a lezione e a intervenire. Però quel 10 ha tirato su la media in maniera incredibile. Anche se a me la filosofia non è mai piaciuta.

Piccola parentesi necessaria.

Perché son andata a leggere Socrate, allora? Perché l'avevo trovato di seconda mano al Libraccio e perché ho letto parecchie biografie a fumetti del BeccoGiallo. Tutto sommato, ogni tanto si trova qualcosa di buono.

Invece questo l'ho trovato noioso... È praticamente una lezione di filosofia a fumetti. Attraverso il processo a Socrate i due autori ne approfittano per delineare le sue idee e il suo pensiero.

Molto belli i disegni, anche se non riescono a salvare il volume dalla noia.

Colpa mia che ho scelto l'albo sbagliato, probabilmente.

narrativa grafica fluida

Me gustó el cómic de Sócrates, el estilo suelto de la ilustración de los personajes lo hacía bastante cercano y la diagramación del libro fluía bastante bien. También me gustaron los cambios de tiempo. La recomiendo ampliamente.

Sokrates’in son günlerine, meşhur davasına, savunmasına odaklanan uyarlamayı okurken Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi’nin yukarıdaki dizeleri de barındıran “Arkamdan Ağlama” şiirini ve Şeb-i Arus’u hatırladım.

İki İtalyan sanatçının bu işini aslında almayacaktım. Bu ara Kafka, Bukowski gibi bir sürü benzer de kitap çıktı almadığım. Sepet doldurma mıydı, görselleri hoşuma gittiğinden bilmem almış bulundum.

Dediğim gibi Sokrates’in son dönemine dair bir uyarlama. Çizimleri ve bazı kompozisyonları tatmin edici buldum. Yalnız metinde, aktarımda eksikler hissettim. Bu eksikler çeviri kaynaklı olabilir diye de (tamamen sezgisel, elimde somut veri yok^^) hislere kapıldım. Akmayan bir şeyler vardı. Aslında takdim yazısı ve finalde de yazarın çizerin notları ile anlatımlarını desteklemeye çalışmışlar ama yeterli olmadığı kanaatindeyim. Sonuçta bu bir çizgi roman. Beklentiyi ona göre belirlemek lazım. Ortalama bir aktarım, merağı kuvvetlenenleri de daha derin okumalar yapmaya yönlendirme yeterli denebilir. Kitap bu anlamda yeterli. Performansını ortalama olarak değerlendiriyorum.

Mesela Sokrates’in son sözlerini bilmiyordum. Buradan Asklepios, ölüm, hayat, şifa, hastalık, beden, ruh üzerinde giden tartışmaları araştırıp okumaktan memnun oldum.

Utilizzando le fonti (Platone) viene raccontato quel poco che si sa della vita di Socrate, concentrandosi sul processo e la successiva morte.
Dal mio punto di vista, il punto forte del libro è la bella ambientazione creata dalle immagini.

"Il processo a Socrate racconta come la più grande democrazia possa aver condannato a morte il migliore dei propri cittadini. E certamente lascia un messaggio inquietante: un intellettuale libero e rigoroso è sempre scomodo per chi detiene il potere, in qualsiasi forma esso sia esercitato."
