Javad Shir-Del has been a brother to a murdered sister, a husband to a dead wife, and now the Chief Spymaster of the feared Iranian Ministry of Intelligence for the regime he holds responsible for both. His audacious plan against the West, hailed by that same regime and embraced by their allies, isn't what they think it is. His quest for vengeance, however, has placed what remains of his family in the direct path of the one person who's eluded his own version of justice all these years.

U.S. Navy Commander Joey Washington is on the crippled International Space Station. She and her two fellow astronauts have a terrifying view of what's unfolding on the planet below them. Her family is in Virginia, but their landing zone is half a world away, if they can make it out.

Gunnery Sergeant An Nguyen and his Marines are in a darkened Fort Knox, Kentucky. They only have moments before the Christmas Eve power outage turns deadly. Fighting for their lives through an altered landscape with one of the only vehicles that still runs, an Abrams Main Battle Tank nicknamed Alice, his mind is on his parents and his twin brother. What's waiting for them is the last thing he expects.

Gale Washington and his daughter Layla have no idea the danger they're in when the lights go out on their neighborhood holiday party in a suburb of Northern Virginia. All Gale can think about is his wife, Joey, and if he'll ever see her again. Together with his extremely odd assortment of neighbors, they cling to the barest shreds of survival in their struggle during the first days of World War III .

A carefully woven action thriller

In reading Mongol Moon, you will derive as much joy from the fantastical as dread from the realism. It'll make you want to buy a faraday cage and flee to the woods. It'll make you hug your loved ones close and learn some Russian. It will even make you appreciate small dogs...
The book is short and tight with room for more to come. Reads much like Eric Flint, with technical matters judiciously explained for the layman. Easy to pick up and (at least for myself at 1:30am) hard to put down.

Avoid reading this book on an airplane. Seriously. All you'll be able to do is picture your plane plummeting to the ground. That being said, READ THIS BOOK in all other settings. Mr. Mark Sibley has painted a terrifyingly plausible picture for the beginning of World War III and his timing couldn't be better (or worse!?!) The author's attention to detail is outstanding and his ability to wargame a lot of really bad scenarios, make this an extremely hard book to put down. In the past, I've found books like this to be all plot and no story, but "Mongol Moon" has them both. The character driven narratives offer a rich experience from both sides and will leave you wanting more. Can't wait for the next one to come out!

Mongol Moon

When an EMP takes out all the power and communication in the western world on Christmas Day all hell breaks loose. This is the story of a small group and their attempts to remain alive. I highly recommend this book. Well written and an eye opener to how easily the world can descend into chaos should it ever happen.

MWSA Review

Mark Sibley’s Mongol Moon is a scary but plausible scenario that sees several of America’s worst enemies team up to start World War III on our own soil.

China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea have all decided that their only way out of economic and agricultural decline is to seize the rich territory of the United States. Working together, they coordinate an attack that initially leaves us blind and unable to strike back. But the bad guys have forgotten how much the average American, when pushed, pushes back, and veterans and active duty alike come together to fight the invaders whenever and wherever they can. Will it be enough?

The author does an outstanding job of weaving together several seemingly unconnected story lines into a cohesive story, and while there is closure at the end of the book for those characters most thoroughly developed, there is an obvious intent to set up for numerous sequels. If they are all as exciting as this first installment, I’m looking forward to it.

Fans of Tom Clancy, Dale Brown, or MWSA’s own Dale Dye and Jeff Edwards will find a lot to like in this book. Fast-moving, exciting, and with a unique story line, action fans won’t be able to put this one down.

MWSA's evaluation of this book found a number of technical problems--including some combination of misspellings, grammar, punctuation, or capitalization errors.

If you thought 2020 couldn't get any worse, then think again, World War 3 is about to go down.

Mongol Moon starts with an explosive beginning in Iran in 1979, and takes the reader across the globe and into space in the present day. This is a thriller definitely not lacking in scale. It reminds me of Tom Clancy's best - Executive Orders, Red Storm Rising, The Bear and the Dragon - as varied plot lines, characters, and settings come alive and begin to interconnect and entwine, leading to brilliantly described set pieces that wow, and to be honest, kinda terrify.

The characters are well done, none feel like a cardboard cutout and really add to the dramatic events that unfold.

I cannot wait for the sequel. Come on Mark, hurry up.

Phenomenal read.

Characters: Tons of well fleshed out characters that actually feel like they are real people and not just characters in a book. Very relatable, they feel like any Tom, Dick, or Harry you would know from your neighborhood BBQ. Still waiting for a couple of them to get what they deserve.

Plot: Well thought out, detailed but not overly so to the point it drags down it down.

Pacing: This is the only spot the book struggles, and only in about the last 10%-15% where it feels a bit rushed, but not to the point of ruining the book.

I stepped out of my genre comfort zone with this book, and WOW, I am so glad I did. This author has such a unique ability to bring humor into a setting typically not equipped and yet it was natural, engaging and kept me turning the pages from start to finish.the word imagery was well developed and the story progressed at a perfect speed. I thoroughly enjoyed every word and look forward to reading his next one.

If I could give it more stars I would.

Shove over Mr. Clive Cussler, there's a new kid in town. Her name is ALICE and her crew is hungry for foreign invaders and killer clowns. Set in the not so distant future, Sibley opens the door for WW3 and the not so far fetched [disturbingly plausible] invasion of the USA. I absolutely could not get enough of this book, but you're going to have to get your own copy to find out.

This is not your typical end of the world book. The detail that went into the background and backstory of each character is riveting. No spoilers but this book is both timely and relevant. I stated reading the book on Saturday afternoon and couldn’t put it down.

Not my usual genre but thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Excellent character development so that I truly cared about what happened to them - and their dogs. Fast moving and action filled. Look forward to sequel.

I couldn't put this down. I love how the author keeps you wanting more as you turn the page. Unexpected twists, and heartwrenching losses, but necessary to bring the story to life. I hope there's a sequel to this fantastic modern day global thriller!

Absolutely impossible to put down! Mostly because the chapter you enjoyed today tends to end up in international headlines tomorrow. Plot driven but rich in character, this novel grabs you by the collar and drags you into the opening volley of WW3.

Mark Sibley, the author, leverages his decades of crisis management and war gaming to bring to life a tale both plausible and frightening with ‘Mongol Moon’.
The United States has had and has many enemies, looking to do harm to it, at home and abroad. Here, in the homeland, we like to think we are too removed from danger or harm. Things happen to others ‘over there’. Mark’s book paints a very real scenario for which we are quite vulnerable to and recovery from will be costly and long. He develops characters from across the globe, both friend and foe, to tell his story.
He introduces characters from Iran, and the mayhem they experienced just before and after the revolution in 1979. An intelligence contractor who notices something wrong with one of our frenemies, astronauts in the International Space Station and a pair of Marines who are brothers and their Abrams MBT, Alice.
This is the end of the beginning of a WWIII tale woven by Mark. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It provided me lots of food for thought and kept my focused on the Scout Motto “Be Prepared”. Please read this book. A follow on is due out in the near future. Many people I know are looking forward to it, as am I.

So believable it's terrifying

This has to be the most believable WW3 book since Red Storm Rising!

I'll be honest and admit that the book scares me a bit. I think that everything that the author wrote is something that can happen within reason.

The characters are diverse (age/race/genders/nationality) so you get multiple viewpoints.

Trust me, this book is is hard to put down!

Can't wait for the next book

There were a lot of good reviews and requests for the next book online. So I checked this one out. It's a great read and now I have become one of the "finish the damn book, Sibley" fan club. I anxiously await the next chapter.

Great pacing, tight story telling

This book was a great read. Believable characters, not a lot of fluff, and lots of scenarios that made me think.

This one will sober you right up and hopefully scare the shit out of you. Bad editing and some romantic/personal story line elements I felt were completely unnecessary and took away from the book. Happy I read and would recommend despite low rating.
