Lucy is a perfectly reasonable person, up until she isn’t. She bottles up incidents, willing to forgive and forget, but when someone crosses the line, she becomes what her friends have affectionately called The Psychobitch. There’s one person who has it coming; from their very first meeting, Trick Johnson, CFO of Harris Toys, has been a contemptuous ass to her, but she held her tongue…Until her boss asks her to work with him for a month. Trick has a huge problem. He has a life plan – a simple, straightforward plan – and the gorgeous ball-buster his best friend employs isn’t part of it in any way, shape or form. He’s managed to keep her out of sight and mostly out of mind quite successfully… Until Carter Harris makes them work together. Some Girls Do It is a series of standalone ending with a Happily Ever After or a Happily for Now. Expect language and some adult scenes.
May Sage is a USA Today Bestselling romance writer dabbling in different genres.
When she isn’t writing, she spends her time with her German Shepherd and her two Savannahs. She loves reading, ballet, running, and cake. Mostly, cake.
May Sage also writes longer fantasy romance novels as Alexi Blake.
I guess it's simply Sage's style that leaves the story somewhat incomplete in my eyes. I love her ideas, but cannot help feeling that their booka could be a lot better with some more text. More explanations for example, a bit more of the dialogue between MC-s, etc.
This was a fun contemporary romance novella. Lucy is one of those women that you just wish you could be like but never have the guts to be. She's not afraid to release her inner psychobitch when something or someone sets her off but the rest of the time she is just a regular person that is looking for her own HEA just like everyone else.
I was excitedly waiting for Lucy’s story. Sadly, this story turned out to be disappointing.
In Shy Girls Write It Better, we are introduced to CEO Carter Harris’s unconventional Executive Assistant, Lucinda (“Lucy”) Warner. Unconventional is a polite way to say the Lucy can be a raging bitch when it is necessary. Lucy doesn’t have that filter we all have which keeps us from saying rude things when someone behaves badly. Lucy is like a verbal ninja and when she strikes she will leave you in a bloody pool before you can even gasp your offense. This makes her a fabulous characters, as long as you aren’t the subject to her rant, and in a story featuring her as the heroine, she should have dazzled the reader with her wit.
So why wasn’t I more enamored with this story, you ask? Because this was Lucy’s story and we didn’t get to see any more of Lucy’s brutal honesty than we see in the other book. She’s a ball-buster but even her nemesis relationship with Patrick “Trick” Johnson, CFO, isn’t really showcased at it’s most brutal and it is their story.
We learn that some of the antagonism between her and Trick is based upon the fact that these two met for a short period of time in High School. He was a Senior and she was a Freshman and Trick was kind to the geeky, shy girl with frizzy red hair but before the end of the year, his family moved and she never heard from him again. Forward a few years and Lucy is hired as the assistant to Carter. Trick see her and presumes that his friend hired a playboy bimbo so he could get laid, and Lucy overhears Patrick’s disparaging assessment of her after one look at her.
For as long as Lucy has worked for Carter, she goes out of her way to avoid Trick or simply give him the stink eye and walk away if he comes to Carter’s office. In the time they worked together, Trick never recognized Lucy as the young girl he befriended, and she doesn’t forgive him for his instant assessment of her. It has a little bit of a Pride & Prejudice feel and Trick does make a reference to that story.
This story takes up when Carter offer’s to loan Lucy to Trick to help him with an important project and Trick just fired another incompetent assistant. While Lucy is pissed that she is forced into close quarters with Trick, there is not enough verbal banter from the woman who can’t hold back. Trick is busy drooling of the sexy woman he is now forced to work with but has to admit that Lucy is every bit as good an assistant as Carter raves. Lucy tries to ignore Trick at first until he gets a hint that she is the same shy girl that he knew in high school.
Overall the story wasn’t bad for a short story giving the Psychobitch a soft side for the people she cares about. But Lucy was introduced as such a vivacious character in the first two stories that I expected so much more witty banter, especially when we start out at such an antagonistic point between Lucy and Trick. Where is the clever snark? Where are the shut downs and attacks?
In fact, the only time we see her wielding her verbal katana is at some women in a restaurant who is all over Trick and he quite obviously is not interested. This was slightly confusing as Trick goes into a diatribe about this woman, and where he knew her from and their past issues, and then she disappears after Lucy tells her to go away. Why did we need her background history? She could have been an aggressively, flirty stranger for all it mattered.
Maybe I expected too much from this story, but I am left with the feeling that the title of Psychobitch is over-exaggerated and that I was simply let down in my expectation.
This is a sweet contemporary Romance with plenty of humor and drama. I couldn't put it down once I got started. I especially loved how it builds up slow and sweet so that you really got to know the characters.
This was a fantastic, well-written book! Lucy has been working for Harris Toys for years when her boss asks her to work for the CFO, Trick, who was a jerk to her from the moment she started at the company. Trick has a simple straightforward life plan and does not deviate - until his best friend makes him work with Lucy. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of a series with related characters.I can't wait to read more books in this series!
I loved this Character! A true duck to swan to psychobitch story! I truly asspire to be just like her! I started this series in the middle and quickly purchased the other two great stories. Each has great characters with a life lessons ending with hea! Will definitely keep reading her work.
This is a very good story! I love Lucy and Trick very much and how Trick finally realised Lucy is the one he’s been looking for years. And all the misunderstanding is cleared. Again, if there’s hea will be much more better although in the epilogue they did engaged and approved by the mother.
I must say this is the 3rd book by this author that I have read. Rarely do I read from an author that I want more so much that I HAVE to read book after book. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE CASES!! I love this story and series so much! Sexy, hot, funny and cute! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!
A very well written, fast moving read. Lucy has her dream job and is an assistant to Carter Harris, the CEO of Harris toys. She is horrified one day to hear her high school crush dismiss her talents, just due to the way she looks. Patrick, who was nick-named Trick in school, is the CFO of the company. He consistently ignores her. That is until circumstances warrant that she act as Patrick's assistant for a time. Now is her time to show Patrick how capable she is. Patrick is rightfully impressed but also gets to see what type of person she is too. This book has a lot packed into a quick read.
Lucy is awesome, she is perfect at playing the game by the rules, but also winning at all costs and making it perfectly acceptable. Trick makes a snap judgement and gets on Lucy's bad side, but she still can't shake her lust for him. Will he finally figure it out and claim the one who fits him perfectly? I loved this story for what it was, but I wish there was a bit more back story and interactions between Trick and Lucy.
I'm torn on this one, because I love the concept and I really like the characters. However, the book drags in parts and speeds in other parts (to the point where I had to stop and reread one chapter). I loved the first two books in the Some Girls Do It series, and am disappointed that this one doesn't live up to them.
I enjoyed the grumpy H and how he overcame his preconceived ideas about what he thought was up with his assistant. It seems like the end was rushed and felt there was a bit of unfinished business for the ending. Good quick fun read.
Lucy is the type of girl to let a lot slights and insults go. She tends to forgive and forget but there is a limit and when you push her too far she can become a real “psychobitch” and when that happens watch out. Trick Johnson, CFO of Harris Toys, has done just that, from their very first time together he acted like a complete jerk. Forced to work together work together for a month is going to quite an ordeal for the both of them. Lucy is not the type to let Trick get away with his boorish behavior. Trick is going to find out he has bitten off more than he can chew when he confronts Lucy. May Sage is a gifted writer and has created two strong protagonists who don't realize that they made for each other. Ms. Sage as written book with a great storyline and wonderful character development. I definitely recommend reading “Bring on the Psychobitch”, it is a real winner.
I absolutely loved Lucy! Honestly this woman rocks. Because of a few careless words Trick managed to go from hero to zero in Lucy's eyes and it takes him 6 years to get back in her good graces. LOVED the meeting with his ex and mom!
I found May via her newsletter and I highly recommend you checking her work out.
I haven't read the first two in this series, but I certainly will be now. This one is well-written, witty, and fun. The interaction between Lucy and Trick is great and I love how Lucy speaks her mind. I don't want to give spoilers, so I'll just say that Trick's speech toward the end was absolutely perfect and Lucy's response to Trick's mother was great.
So this genre is not usually my thing however I love May Sage so I gave it a shot and now I have to read every book of hers like this because omg it is simply amazing! It was still sexy like her other stuff with so much humor I couldn't help laughing while also wishing for some clean undies. ;) As for characters I so want to be Lucinda when I grow up! She is officially my idol! Her crazy is the most amazing thing I have ever seen! This is a read for anyone loving humor or erotica.
I bought this because the title was irresistible. Then the picture made me think of an SNL Christmas skit that still cracks me up. You know the one with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samburgh and boxes and what they put in it? Yes that's the one! The beginning was great and had I paid attention I would have started with book one in the series. I hate jumping in later. Anyway back to the story. One crotchety grown man who is crap to work for. Add a strong confident woman and throw in a few, albeit surprises, and you have a good, funny tale. Don't forget the sassy bff and a few guys added and its a very good recipe for an entertaining read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I really loved the story line and laughed. Can't wait for the next book. There is a HEA which you think there wouldn't be reading the beginnings of the first few chapters.
I'm in love, with this book, with how it's written, and with the author. I devoured this book in only a couple of hours. It's now 1:36am and I really need to get some sleep however if your looking at buying this book... buy it now. It's worth your time and hard earned money because it is simply amazing! Thank you for your creativity May Sage you are truly talented.
There are some fun moments in this book. Lucinda is a kickass heroine. Literally. And her verbal take downs are pretty good. She is my favourite character in all three books thus far. So I really was expecting to enjoy this story. Unfortunately it was lacking some oomph and desperately in need of an editor. Never mind the sentences missing a word and typos, one chapter is out of order and two are completely repeated. I would hope that this could be quickly rectified which would add a star.
I don't think I've read anything by May that I haven't adored. And I have to be truthful when I say that this one is no exception. Amazing sorry and what a kick butt heroin! I loved Lucy, she is amazing and funny and a total go getter who lets no one stand in her way. I think I pulled a muscle laughing at the end.
Putting this story into a few words: Funny, kick-butt characters who are witty and charming. Overall amazing book.
I loved this book. The way that Ben took care of Piper when she had the flu, and the way he immediately took to her daughter. He became a Dad to her and lo ed it. He feel head over heels in love Piper. They formed a great family.
It took me a long time to purchase this book, because of the name. Glad I bought it, it was OUTSTANDING. A fun and fast read that will leave you feeling good.
Another great book by the author. As someone else mentioned, wish the book was longer! It was so much fun to read and love a book with a strong (and smart) female. Definitely recommended!
'Bring on the Psychobitch' is the third in the 'Some Girls Do It series', which starts with Shy Girls Write it Better. It's a standalone HEA contemporary romance novella, but the story does involve the same set of characters, from the other novels, so you get a better idea of their motivations and backgrounds if you've read the first two installments of the series - Shy Girls Write it Better and Scrooge McFuck.
May Sage was very clever in writing the series on a variable timeline. So, as you read about some of the secondary characters, you already know what's in store for them and the fall out from certain actions they undertake.
I was looking forward to Lucy's and Trick's story, but somehow it didn't live up to the level of the first two novels, so it's a three, rather than four star review. It felt a little choppy in places and the relationship development between the protagonists was a little forced at times.
Issues aside, as with the rest of the series, the characters were fun and engaging. The plot is fairly light and undemanding, but trots along nicely and you want the protagonists to make it as a couple. May injects just the right amount of romance, humour and steamy scenes to keep this reader interested and have her wanting to purchase the next installment!
Overall it's a light-hearted, fun and quick read that you can easily read in one sitting of a couple of hours.
This is the third book in the series, and just as enjoyable as the last two! It is a standalone story, with characters from the two previous stories appearing, and all the explanations you need included.
This story focuses on Trick and Lucy. The two battle with their hidden attraction for a long time, but it is Trick who makes the first move. He has always been about first impressions, and Lucy proves him wrong again and again, to the reader's enjoyment. Their interactions and banter were fun, and the moments between them were awesome when they finally gave in. Lucy lives up to her nickname with her complete honesty and tendency to fight for what's right for herself and others. She's hard working and intelligent, and she digs guys with a geek vibe, like Trick. Trick has a mind for numbers and much more, and is very much an alpha. He's human, with faults from his upbringing, but he still has plenty to love besides his good looks. Great book boyfriend material there.
Overall I really liked the story! The interactions between the couple, as well as with their friends, was great! The story flowed well, only had a few grammar mistakes, and was very satisfying to read. The progression of the relationship for these two was fast (maybe a little fast, but I'm ok with it) once they acknowledged that they liked one another and cleared the air (which I appreciated). If you liked the previous stories in the series, you'll like this one, too. If you've never read any of May Sage's stories, you could definitely start with this one if it intrigues you more, but I'd recommend starting with the first one to appreciate the other characters more. If you like your banter and office romance, then you'll love this story!
I like this author, I do. But I know I would enjoy her books more if she would do better with her editing. I can't stand it when I'm reading a book and there are a bunch of errors - misspellings, missing words, incorrect sentence structure, etc. In this book in particular, there were a bunch of dumb errors. Also, what I'm finding with this author is I like the plot and character development of her books, but she keeps writing these novellas - which I don't hate, but novellas have to be written in such a way that they don't leave the reader frustrated and/or disappointed when they get to the end of the story. I liked this story, but not as much as I liked the "Scrooge" book. I'm noticing a pattern where the book is going along very well and I'm totally into it, then BAM! It's over. and I mean - BOOM! Done. I hate that! Everything comes to a screeching halt and is wrapped up way to quickly and out of the blue. So that's why I'm giving this book 3 stars. It was cool though. It wasn't bad and I liked it, but I could have loved it had it been a full length book with no (or very minimal) errors. I think May Sage should stop writing novellas and write full books because I think they would be amazing. I would love it if she reworked each book in this series and made them full length books.
