In late November, Caleb goes off alone into the mountains to hunt meat for the winter, leaving Flora alone at their cabin with just Dog for company. While hunting mule deer in a box canyon, Caleb is caught in a freakish blizzard that dumps mounds of snow over the trail. As he makes his way out, fighting Mother Nature’s whimsy, he also has to deal with her hungry creatures who see him as a tasty winter meal.

Meanwhile, back in Bear Creek, when the snow starts to fall, Flora starts to worry about Caleb, and, after a few days of fretting decides to go find him, getting caught up in her own dangerous adventure.

A story of two people who are willing to sacrifice all for the other, the action is non-stop.

Nd the usual Caleb Johnson exciting outings, but still there's enough suspenseful moments to maintain your undivided attention. Some close calls for Caleb that are somewhat different from his usual encounters.

Definitely a four star endeavor for one of my most favorite authors, as Caleb gets caught up in his attempt to get enough meat for the upcoming winter season, and is confronted by some hungry wolves and a big cat. His wife is overcome worrying about him, and leaves home to locate him. Very touching rendition of realistic old American West settlement troubles!
Storylines are solid, as this couple, who love each other deeply to extremes to express their commanding respects o each other. Limited character selections in this compassionately motivated story, but the cohesiveness of those involved is very prevalent!
Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated success story to everyone, as it's very heartwarming episodes will fill you with warmth and comfort beyond belief! It is very short time frame, but the compassionate storylines definitely maintains your undivided attention from beginning to end!!!😃

Caleb Johnson Mountain Man

I really enjoy these books on Caleb Johnson. They are page turners. I also enjoy reading about his adventures in the mountains. I look forward to many more. But I miss the books 📚 on Bass Reeves he is one of my favorite. Thank you Charles Ray for some great books.

A very enjoyable story of adventure

A great story of adventure in the wild where the hunter is challenged by the elements as well as the animals. Only a capable and experienced woodsman is able to survive. Very enjoyable and entertaining reading.

Back In Them Mountains

As with his other stories this is a fast read. We find Caleb back home in his cabin with his new wife. It's an interesting and enjoyable tale but again typoes clutter up the pages. I would suggest the publisher get a new proof reader.

Poor info

Author seems to lack knowledge of wildlife in the western US. Elk males are bulls not bucks. Also Oregon has mule deer as well as elk.

No depth

Routine story line of only minor interest. This series was second rate. The only good feature of the book - it was short.

Mountain Man

Good storyline, fast paced, happy ending. Not presented in the old Zane Grey fashion of good but hard man coming to clean up the range..more of a story of two men learning mutual respect.

Great book and I enjoyed reading it. Lots of action with a happy ending. I especially enjoyed the excellent treatment of racial bigotry and relationships in the old west.
