When you can live forever, but true love ends with her death, is the risk worth the heartache?
Spencer believes his love for the mortal Talor is worth any price. Worth defying his fallen angel father. Worth losing his power and position as the sentry of Cypress. Worth risking an invitation to the rebel siren Sage to his territory for the chance to heal Talor before it's too late.

Because in this world, vampires aren't the simple blood-sucking monsters you're expecting. They are descendants of fallen angels, capable of shifting into fantastical beasts and creatures. Some of them, like the Siren Sage, can destroy others using the deadly power of his song. But Sage's power also has capabilities beyond destruction. Sage answers Spencer's call and arrives in Cypress with his "band," the cover his fellow rebels use to mask in front of humans. But he isn't expecting Talor's pain and inner song to fascinate him.

What makes Talor so special? That's the question I asked the majority of the time while reading Long Live Dead Reckless through her POV. Talor's sweet and unassuming, and largely marked by recent family tragedy and her trouble coping. But there is more to Talor than meets the eye, which is why one of the fallen angels wants to claim her as his bride. And Spencer's chance at love may be ruined before he can tell Talor how he feels.

I'll be honest, when I read the first book in this series, I wasn't that impressed with Spencer. His motivations and the twists the reader learned as Talor is brought into the supernatural world of Loyalists and Dissent made me more curious about her potential devilish husband-to-be. (I've always been a Hades/Persephone fangirl, y'all.)

Things I loved about Reckless Pursuit? When reading Talor's POV there are so many nuances the reader doesn't pick up on. So I loved coming to understand what was going on behind the scenes, but I fell a little bit for Spencer's idiot-in-love character. I didn't know I could prefer him over Sage, but somehow you did it, Safari Spell. Now I'm rooting for the underdog arse of the series. And we can't forget about wingman Levi, who is tasked by his father to basically become Talor's sworn shield. Levi is aromantic and doesn't lust after women the way all his brothers and father seem to. Which makes his sudden devotion to protecting Talor all the more endearing. At least, in an "I will murder anyone who causes her bodily and emotional harm" way. What's not to love?

While this could be read as a stand-alone, I'd highly recommend reading this after Long Live Dead Reckless. That way you can be confused and traumatized (then romanticized) with Talor, then understand what's going on through the eyes of the many men in her life. Also, to avoid confusion, this is NOT a reverse harem, more like a love triangle (quadrangle?) over the maybe-Princess of the realm. Needless to say, I plan on reading the rest of Safari Spell's fantastical series, to learn everyone's fates. If you love vampire stories with unique and campy twists, alpha-holes, and brooding reformed bad boys, this is the series for you.

I never really liked Spencer. I was afraid I wasn't going to enjoy this book as much as I did the Long Live Dead Reckless books but boy was I wrong! This book was so good! I understand Spencer so much better now. He isn't the person I thought he was and I might even like him now.

I love the writing. It was always good but you can tell Safari Spell has improved a lot!
This book definitely belongs to my favorite books of 2020. And I can't wait for the next book!

Wow! This book is a piece of the LLDR puzzle that you didnโ€™t know you were missing. It gives so much insight and backstory to the characters. The different perspective (omniscient) sheds a contrasting light on the people and stories you thought you knew. Getting to see the stoic Levi almost giddy with excitement made me smile. I was pleasantly surprised by the Grigori, especially their father-son relationships, but I think my favorite surprise of the book was the Spencer-Sage friendship. I loved all the โ€œthrowbackโ€ references from the series, but if you havenโ€™t read or havenโ€™t finished the other books itโ€™s ok because youโ€™ll recognize them when you do.
I caught myself smiling every time a familiar face appeared (well, except maybe for Mannix). It was very interesting to get details and explanations-an inside view of these characters and relationships that we didnโ€™t get to see before. These character developments offered fresh perspective, and these backstories were a great payoff for fans of the series. The author created such endearing characters that makes you go all in on their lives, and I was definitely invested, so I had to hold my breath a few times. And I laughed, sighed, gasped, and also shed tears. I already loved Spencer but after this, my heart aches even more for him. With this much on the line, the stakes are of course going to be high, and as tragic as some of these events are, it offers such a raw, vivid picture of loyalty, honor, obligation, friendship, sacrifice, and love.

The author is very talented and polished. The characters are complex. The dialogue is realistic. The relationships are relatable. The connections are deep. The battles are intense, but meaningful.

I love the definitions at the front of the book. Very helpful for anyone not already familiar with her work.

Itโ€™s another canโ€™t-put-it-down books, full of excitement and suspense, twists, creativity, and sweetness. Itโ€™s heartbreak balanced with hope. I canโ€™t wait to read the next sequels!

Once again a fantastic read just like her other books. She is such a descriptive writer you feel as if you are transformed right into the action. A real page turner.

Excellent Read

A quick & easy, yet captivating read about one of the reckless sons. It definitively gives perspective on Spencer that's not really seen in the other books, in my opinion. I enjoyed it and cannot wait to read the next ones!
