3 stars from an adult perspective. This is intended for a middle-grade audience, and if I were 12, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. The war story is set during WW2 London during the Blitz and is about friendship and morals more than war. Girls on the Up is set in 60s London during the time of Apollo 11 and all the excitement over that- but it's also largely about friendship and morals, and family. Right and wrong. Some of the standard lessons adolescent girls need to understand while also getting into some historical events.
