Iver, The Bear King

I am the new king of the Wood Lords but I've been taught well by my father. I respect my people and do my best to take care of them all. Our seer has foretold a new destiny for my people and the people of the Willow Kye. Princess Illayda is my fated mate. I've watched her from afar for years; she is beautiful and full of fire. I'm happy with this change of events. But will she feel the same?
Princess Illayda

I can't believe I accidentally crossed the border into the land of the Wood Lords. The Bear King is nothing like the stories that are told, he is so much more. He is brave, handsome and cares for his people well. When he tells me I may not return to my people because I belong to him, he has another thing coming. Is escape possible? Or do I want to stay with him?

Publishers Note: This steamy sci-fi romance contains elements of fantasy, action, adventure and power exchange.

Born on the glorious Atlantic Coast of Canada, on a tiny island called Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Mira is the only child of two only children. Reading and writing was an escape for the shy, quiet and curious child. Not really fitting in, became more of a badge of honor as years went by. Originality was something she aspired to define on her own terms, often going against the social norm for her own views on what was right or wrong.

Now in her 30's, Mira still lives on the same Island she was born. A true Caper, who never left for any reason except a few short trips beyond the causeway, the idea of being far from her roots never enticed her away... Now, she is raising four children, surrounded by extended family and lots of pets. When Mira isn't writing she is cooking, painting or wanting to be writing.

Happy Reading, and if you can, leave a review. She loves hearing from her readers!

A fantasy romance with a somewhat dark theme. Iver is an alpha and the king. His people are warriors and even the women are taught to defend themselves. For Illayda her people aren’t seen as warriors. There is a rule to not cross the boundaries between the two clans. To do so may be mean death. She is a very strong willed woman and has always gotten herself in trouble. She is soon going to find out what happens when you break rules. The story does have plenty of anger between the clans/tribes. This leads to lots of trouble and danger. There will be some hot scenes that do include punishment and alpha tendencies.

An arranged chase Princess Illayda is finally within Iver’s reach, to make her his Queen

This was a totally captivating read the storyline had been so beautifully written and the characters were simply spectacular, once you begin reading it is simply impossible to put this book down, I have to admit that I read it in one sitting and I enjoyed every single moment and cannot wait to read future books by this simply wonderful writer.

Iver is of the Bear clan and has recently become King and since a young man guarding the wall, from this focal point he had watched the young Princess of the other Tribe from across the river as she had fought of a group of women single headedly. She was such a determined and tiny thing that he had instantly known was meant to be his bride, however he knew that there were many things that would have to be put into action first.

As the King has to take into his tipi the young bride that is his future mate, she was full of pride and even though she would be his queen she would not be his equal and this was something she had to learn even if this had to be taught over his knee or in the punishment tipi.

Read the story and discover that there are so many unseen twists and turns that you cannot have ever foreseen and when you reach the actual end you will be able to understand that this story was foretold.

I really enjoyed reading this story, theres a few things that come out of the woodwork which are totally unexpected but all round its great for all parties concerned.
IIayda, a princess in her own right, daughter of the Cheif and Chieftainess, she looked like a typical Willow Kye boy, she loved to hunt and would sneak out early mornings and go hunting and collect, however this time she crossed the boarder after been chased by two thugs. She was captured by Zyon and spanked for her actions and taken to the king.
One look at IIayda and King Iver knew she was the one that he had been predicted to marry, and that would bring peace to all. He loved her sassyness but she had to learn her lessons and it wasnt just with a birch that she got spanked with.
Soon IIayda learns that the King and his people arnt as they are made out to be, but learning to trust Iver is not easy, but there is chemistry sparking between them both. But when it comes down to crucial moments Can Iver really trust IIayda to not run.

Im sure readers will love this wonderful story i have given 5 stars... well worth reading

This was a new author for me it had both syfy and ancient society qualities the story started a bit slow for me but it eventually picked up Iver was what you could expect for a book of this type with its old world feel he came of as both brash and cocky for a King however there were things I found unappealing the way he had Illayda treated in the beginning yes she's a brate but just throw her in a dungeon for a few days and have her get over herself don't let one of your minor slaves have authority over her especially if your going to make her your Queen. He has two brothers one who you only meet in the end like he was and after thought or add in not much personality Tyron is different hes second oldest and came of as more Kingly. The whole island thing could have been better if Illayda's family wasn't so awful her mother and sister are just two dementional not much character development there her father and brother are just awful why would she even care about them. And Illayda started out strong then she just became very repetitive its like she never learned or had any character development. So this book is a 3.4 for me I finished the book but I never really learned two like certain characters the story was good but lacked something could have used more action and intense situations to round it out.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

This book started out really great with an interesting and intriguing storyline and a strong female character. The plot is a really good one, although I found the writing a little confusing at times. Illayda is a great character with a lot of personality. I really liked her for her strength, stubbornness and feistiness, and for her heart that was, mostly, in the right place.
Iver on the other hand wasn’t for me. In my opinion, he did things for the wrong reason and to me, came across as tyrannical instead of alpha; he is king, and uses his sovereignty heavily to control the people around him, and for personal gain several times throughout the book. Personally, I would have liked it a lot better had the author made him a king that lead by example both privately and publicly thereby justifying his discipline and authority beyond his title.
That said, the story itself was good, and in the end it comes down to personal taste.

This is the first book I've read of this author. This story has adventure, action, fantasy, domination and spankings. Ilayda is a spunky princess who likes to dress as a Willow Kye boy and go hunting. However this time she's caught and taken to King Iver and he knows right away that she is the mate that the seer for told him about. When asked if she could go home Iver says no, as she is his mate. She's a little sassy thing and there are times when Iver likes that but she still has to learn her place. As they get to know each other they find a spark between them that will eventually burn between them. Will Iver ever be able to trust Ilayda not to run away? Illayda is the princess of Willow Kye tribe. She is bold and determined. To help her tribe, she goes hunting (which a woman shouldn't do) to bring meat in that they need for the tribute to the Wood Lords. She is hunted by two men while out and is forced over the border into Wood Lords territory. The Wood Lords claim her as a slave for crossing the border. What she doesn't know is that she was set up since Iver, the king of the Wood Lords, wants her as his queen. What follows is an engrossing story. I enjoyed it and I look forward to more books in this series.

This was well-written story by Mira Brooks. This book 1 in the Princes of Insula Series was intriguing as it had some very well-thought out scenes and story plots. These characters have very strong wills and personalities and their interactions are believable. This story has the following: intrigue, twists & turns, adventure, action, love, steam and a HEA. It's a fast-paced and will keep you engaged from start to finish. I will be on the lookout for books by this author.

This is a new author to me, and I chose to read the book as the blurb intrigued me. The author has done a good job with both world and character building. I enjoyed the plot and the main characters who have a lot of chemistry.

This was an entertaining read with a good story line and character work. While this was a great way to start a series, I found it difficult to connect to the characters.

I liked this story. It stars King Iver, a determined and strategic leader and Princess Illayda, an intelligent & strong-willed lady he has admired from afar for years. Will her free spirit ever bend to his desires? This is a darker romance with elements of abuse and discipline - the women in this world are not considered equals and their behavior is controlled. Iver will be an exception - to a point. Although he admires Illayda's stubbornness, he wants to bring her down a peg. (Be careful what you wish for. Sometimes I didn't understand his frustration and at times Illayda gave in too quickly.) There are punishments and spankings. This story has great details, excellent world building, surprises, funny banter, detailed intimacy and dangerous situations. Very entertaining!

The whole theme of this review is OK. The character development was OK, Iver was at times pretty tyrannical and IIayda was pretty self-absorbed most of the time. I guess what was missing for me from them was the compassion and empathy you expect from a good leader. There were times the book bogged down in the muck of explaining history/context and I admittedly skimmed that. Am I interested in more? Yes I would read the next book, but hope for mores. Overall, just an OK, well paced read.
