Please tell me I’m not the only reader that feels the need to vocalise their opinion to characters in the story they’re currently reading?

*waits eagerly for response*

*nods*

Whoop! That’s what I wanted to hear *high fives*.

Yet do they ever listen? *shrugs* Do they poop! *snorts*

And let me tell you, it’s a wonder Ava’s ears weren’t ringing with all the ‘vocalisation’ I was aiming her way at the start of Bride Squad Runaway *smirks*...

‘Ava, honey, I don’t think...’

‘Something smells fishy about that...’

‘Listen to Stefan!’

‘Well I could’ve told you that!’

You get the drift *waves hand*.

Now I have to say that Ava is a bigger woman than I’d ever be. With certain revelations I’d have been threatening to de-tune the Tuner whilst simultaneously making sure my besties had bail money. *snorts* You may think I jest!

In my imagination I evened out this trio of besties to a quad by becoming the unofficial fourth member on their road trip.

What starts out as a means of Ava’s escape from the non-wedding-of-the-year becomes one of reconnection. Not just with herself (the Ava pre-Simon – hopes and dreams included), but the friendships that had got a little lost along the way due to life and circumstance.

I was chuckling from the beginning of this book with a good few belly laughs thrown in (Tommo & Git FTW!), but it was packed with emotion too. We all know looks can be deceiving, and you may think someone has it all, but the truth may be starkly different. I could relate to some of Lauren’s personal struggles and it really hit home with me.

There were a few stand out scenes for me – Cate in the pub (I’ll never look at an aran sweater without remembering it!), Git waking up (that’s all you’re getting), the ritual and Stefan’s discovery in Ava’s portfolio (swoon).

What is it about Frenchmen in books? *sighs* This greedy reader would’ve loved more Stefan in the book. Whaaa?

I love reading stories with older characters (a youthful 42 here!) and I finished this book with a huge smile on my face.

Set in the country famous for its craic, BSR is filled with love and laughter and the affirmation to never settle!

In Bride Squad Runaway we follow Ava who is about to marry her boyfriend of ten years, The Tuner. He’s really invested in his band, but has been doing up their new home for their honeymoon and Ava has been working around the clock to afford it. This is all until she receives awful news on the big day and flees the scene with her two best friends.

The plot of this book was fun and light but I struggled slightly as it is told in third person. This made it a bit harder for me to connect with the characters, it’s just a personal preference and definitely a me problem, so this might not bother you. Despite this, I found myself completely enraged by Ava’s fiance’s behavior! I never warmed to him and by the end of the book I’d jumped to passionately hating him.

As Ava has thankfully fled this man with her best friends; Cate and Lauren, we have some sweet friendship dynamics. They discuss how sometimes people drift apart and how life changes and therefore it changes the structure of your friendships which was interesting.

For quite a while, Cate and Lauren are at each others throats and constantly bickering. They both seem to assume the worst of each others lives and values but of course, everything is not as it seems. It makes you think about how you should not assume the states of someones life and how it may seem like someone has it all, but often that is not the case. Nobody can know what goes on behind closed doors.

There are some crazy moments sprinkled in along the way which should give you lots of laughs and make this short book a super fast paced read.

One lovely thing about this book is all the royalties from the book are being donated to The Sarah Jennifer Knott Foundation for Cancer of Unknown Primary.

This is a great fun light read which you cannot help but laugh out loud when reading about Ava and her friends on their mad road trip!

You are taken on a crazy road trip with Ava and her friends and the book is full of loads of funny moments that you can't help but read the book with a smile on your face. It took me a while to get use to way it was written as I prefer to read in the first person but I did get use it. All characters are great and fun and you can certainly imagine all their adventures on the road trip.

This makes for a great summer read that is a fun, light hearted read.

Thank you to @lovebookstours for gifting me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I really tried with this book - I stopped and started a couple times, thinking maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind. The dialogue was so stilted, with monologue-style discussions and what was seemed like it was supposed to be banter. I never got to the point.

Ava O Hara is almost forty. She works as a curate in an art gallery and dabbles in creating masterpieces. She has been with Simon ten years and engaged for six months. Simon is a musician and has a band. He is almost forty but is more of a boy in a man's body.

Their wedding is just around the corner. She's found her dress... she thinks and her colleague Stefan is secretly harbouring a crush on her although is a serial dater but only a one date kinda guy.

On the day of the wedding something horrifically embarrassing happens causing Ava to flee with the help of her best friends Lauren and Cate and the three go on a journey they will never forget.

This story follows friendship, love, betrayal and heartbreak. It is a hilarious read. I devoured this in an afternoon.

The one line that stands out to me is "Why is everyone so afraid to age when the alternative is bloody bleak" just brilliant.

A fun take on friendship and life, BRIDE SQUAD RUNAWAY by Caroline Grace-Cassidy & Lisa C. Carey is sure to have you giggling all the way through this enjoyable tale.

For the past ten years, Ava O'Hara has given up her own artistic pursuits to support her fiancè Simon's dream of making it big with his band. She works hard at the art gallery with her friend Stefan, who sometimes seems to understand her better than anyone. But all of her sacrifices will be worth it because now she is getting married and thanks to her inheritance from her mother, she has a little cottage in the countryside to look forward to, which Simon has been busy renovating. So when Ava discovers on her wedding day that not only has Simon been cheating on her but also swindling her money from the renovation, she needs to escape. And at a time like this, a girl needs her besties, no matter how far apart they may have grown.
What ensues, is an adventure that will have you laughing out loud and feeling nostalgic as these three women whose lives have changed so much, reconnect and begin to realise that nobody's life is ever as perfect as it seems. And sometimes all you need to do is take a chance.

A little slow to start, it wasn't long before I was completely caught up in the madness and mayhem of Ava's wild road trip and I couldn't put it down. The characters are loveable and completely relatable and there were so many times that I burst out laughing that I lost count. BRIDE SQUAD RUNAWAY by Caroline Grace-Cassidy & Lisa C. Carey is a wonderful story that is sure to warm your heart. So what are you waiting for? Get buying and enjoy.

Review:
I adore Ireland and this is what made this read a no brainer for me, an Irish fix is just what I was looking for. The positive reviews and quirky front cover also made Bride Squad Runaway look appealing and I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. I just hoped I would find it as funny as what others did!

On completing chapter one I was actually left feeling unsure as to whether I would connect with the book and the writing style, the initial connection just wasn’t there. However, this doubt didn’t last long at all and soon I was fully connected, fully enthralled and I enjoyed every remaining minute of the book! It is honestly the type of book you would take on holiday with you and luckily for me, I did!

I really enjoyed the characters in this read, apart from Simon, but he was there to infuriate the readers, so job done well! Ava was a character that was comfortable in her own skin which I liked, but unfortunately, she let her shine be dulled, I wanted to reach into the book and give her a shake myself. To put up with what she did however shows she has the patience of a saint, but there is an important lesson to woman here and it’s that we shouldn’t just settle, we shouldn’t put up with wrongful treatment because we fear it’s too late to do anything about it.

I love that all three friends were totally opposites and had their own personalities. Despite them clashing as a result of this, it was sweet how they all still were down for each other and had each other’s backs. I honestly think the book wouldn’t have been as fun if it wasn’t for these characters. The way you saw them re-connect with each other was brilliant and in the end they turned out to be the friendship goals.

I have to say, I loved Lauren in particular and feel she was my favourite member of the runaway squad. Her personality was brilliant, there was more to her than what others thought, her banter was spot on, her humour was at my level and she was feisty!

Each chapter had a little title which I liked, it let you know what was coming but didn’t give to much away, it just added to the book’s quirkiness. I especially loved Chapter 12’s heading, “Goodbye Dignity, Hello Whiskey” I find that very relatable. The humour in the book is so random, but it is placed perfectly to pick the mood back up when things get serious. The girl’s antics were almost bonkers at times but it was funny to read! With the humour and the personalities in the read, it didn’t feel like I was reading about mature ladies, but I feel this is a message from the book that you are only as young as you feel.

Bride Squad Runaway is the perfect chick lit. It is down to earth, funny, light hearted and it also gives you important life lesson reminders. Such as how social media can affect you, how you shouldn’t judge others before you really understand them and how important your friendships are especially during hard times.
This was a short read, I finished it quickly but the pace was perfect, it was fun and it was down to earth. What more could you want?

Bride Runaway Squad is a light hearted and funny read. Think of ‘Bridesmaids’ meets ‘The Decoy Bride.’ [2 of my fave wedding rom-com films, just incase you all were wondering] It’s really the kind of read that just leaves you feeling uplifted at the end, the authors do a great job of keeping real emotions while giving us something to chuckle at. It actually reads a lot like a rom-com movie and it makes the pages just fly by. But! The focus isn’t the romance, it’s the friendship, so keep that in mind, this is all about some Bride Squad Power.

Also, while the humor is definitely what makes the book, I adored how this was truly a book on friendship, so even though it read like a ‘rom-com’ romance wasn’t the focus, it was a smaller part, the main bulk of the story is finding yourself along the way of reconnecting with those who make a difference just by being in your life.

The friends don’t always see eye to eye and I love that the issues were resolved in a way that just felt natural. Let me tell you, finding out you had more in common with someone and that jealousy can remove a lot of obstacles is so enjoyable to read.

If you like romance, if you’re getting married, if you just finished a relationship, and you like to have a laugh, this book is one to pick up! It’s a quick and fun summer read and I hope that you all get to enjoy it as much as I did!

Thank you to Black&White Publishing for sending me a copy, I have given an honest review in exchange.

3.5 stars for me!

I’ll admit this started off quite slow and it took me a couple of chapters to get into it, but let me tell you, once you get to the wedding it picks up pace and thoroughly shines!

After Ava leaves Simon at the alter, she and her bridesmaids take an epic road trip across Ireland and there are plenty of hilarious moments along the way. It felt very much like a comedy movie, I’d say similar to Bridesmaids mashed up with The Hangover!

At times I just wanted to crawl into the page and be with these three women, drinking, laughing and just having the craziest and best of times.

I absolutely adored Lauren and Cate. They really had a love / hate relationship and some of their arguments really made me laugh as it felt very true to life, just how friends would bicker.

Despite all the antics and mishaps along the way, it also covers some important topics such as friendship, loss and acceptance for who you are! A beautiful look at how friendships can drift apart when you aren’t willing to be honest with each other.

This really is such an easy and happy read. I would definitely recommend this as the perfect book to take with you on holiday, the ideal escape as you’re sat on the beach or round the pool!

This is a new take on the runaway bride trope. It focuses on the runaway bride and her two friends. Ava ignores the signs things aren't right in her relationship until the wedding day when there's a revelation she can't ignore. She runs from her wedding with her two best friends on a life-affirming road trip around Ireland.

There are angst laughter and romance in this story, which lets the women get to know each other again and realise why they are friends. A lighthearted tale full of emotion which will resonate with its readers.

These two stunning ladies are new authors to me, not only did they grab me hook, line and sinker….. BUT in a genre I don’t usual read!

This was a fun, quick read. Easy to get into but hard to put down. I took this book everywhere with me, just wanting to squeeze an extra page or two in whenever I could.

Bride Squad Runaway is a fun, lighthearted read that has you grinning like the Cheshire cat, or so my hubby told me as I was sat reading it. Its a real page Turner that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Definitely a must read for lovers of chick lit and rom-com reads. It will have you laughing page after page, chapter after chapter.

Bride Squad Runaway is not your typical romance novel. It is a book about life, friendship and relationships. This book let us think about what do we actually have, if the person, we have built our whole life around, is not the ONE? It makes us take a step back and reflect on our choices and our priorities. It is not an easy funny read I thought it would be after looking at the cover. But... sometimes we do not need easy... what we need is a healthy dose of reality and time to think.

Laughed from start to finish, another superb book by Caroline Grace Cassidy, but this time co-written with life long friend Lisa Carey.
I flew through this and couldn’t put it down, so relatable and you can see so many similarities with your own friendship.
I bought a good few copies of this as all royalties are going to charity. Wonderful thing to do from these two ladies.

I literally was not able to put down this brilliantly funny and warm book. The authors have been likened to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and I couldn’t agree more. Loved the chapter titles, and the way every chapter has a cliffhanger ending. Couldn’t wait to see what mischief would happen next on the adventures. It’s a must summer read and I believe the royalties from this book are going to charity

The story is simple, but the journey through the read is so much fun. The writing was so effortless and well-paced, and the story flowed through without any glitches.
The blunt and from-the-heart conversation between the characters was so refreshing.
The story is also surprisingly packed with substance. A light read, this is a must-read for chick-lit fans.

This book had me laughing start to finish and really made me remember why I love this kind of book. It was easy to pick up and really is the perfect book while life is busy again. This book followed the story of Ava and her disastrous wedding day. However, the main focus for me wasn’t on that, it was on three friends and finding their friendship again. They laughed, cried and shouted together. This book could easily be turned into a movie and I’m keeping everything crossed that it is. I fully recommend giving this one a go!

”She walked away from a happy man,
I thought I was so cool,
I just stood there whistling
‘There goes the bride' as she walked out the door.”
- They Might Be Giants, ‘Lucky Ball and Chain’.

Bride Squad Runaway by Caroline Grace-Cassidy & Lisa C. Carey follows friendship, love, betrayal & heartbreak. It's not your typical romance - playing on the runaway bride trope could result from societal expectations. Men are stereotypically expected to have a dose of dread before a wedding. So it's supposed to be more shocking when it's the woman who backs out to be free & single &/or run away with another man. Brides abandoning their grooms could because they want to be with her new flame, celebrate her independence, or she has cold feet for some story-related reason. This story, in particular, almost recontextualises this trope…

For the past ten years, Ava O'Hara has given up her artistic pursuits to support her fiancèe Simon's dream of making it big with his band. She works hard at the art gallery with her friend Stefan, who sometimes seems to understand her better than anyone. But, of all her sacrifices will be worth it because now she is getting married & thanks to her inheritance from her mother, Ava has a little cottage in the countryside to look forward to, which Simon has been busy renovating. When Ava discovers on her wedding day that not only has Simon been cheating on her but also swindling her money from the renovation, she needs to escape. & at a time like this, a girl needs her besties, no matter how far apart they may have grown.

Packed with wit & charm, I have whisked away on Ava's journey & devoured the entire book in one sitting. From impending wedding bells to rundown renovations, this book had it all in spades & it was a true delight from start to finish. So read now or forever hold your peace!

I have not read a rom com novel like this in ages. I feel it has the potential to be turned into a movie. This a heart-warming novel that had me wanting more. This book takes you on a journey of heartbreak, betrayal, friendships and love.

Ava has been with her fiancé for years and he finally proposes to her, but as the wedding approaches, she isn’t feeling 100% about marrying the supposed love of her life. These doubts are confirmed when she hears some shocking news just as she arrives at the venue on the day of her wedding.

What other choice does she feel she has other than to run away from the situation? With most romantic novels you would expect it to be all about will they? Won’t they? This book takes you on the journey of three friends, who have lost touch over the years and drifted apart, heartbreak bringing them back together.

I felt all the emotions that Ava went through as I read this book, it had me laughing and seen me finishing it within 24hrs. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone.

This was such a fun and light hearted read. I wasn't a huge fan of the writing, mostly but I enjoyed the story and I loved that the authors gave us female characters that are older than the typical age you would see in books like this. Instead of female characters in their late twenties we get women in their early 40's struggling to maintain friendships, being a parent, high flying careers and questioning settling for the sake of settling once you've reached a certain age. The characters had personality and I appreciate that the authors made this all about women reconnecting their friendship and helping each other heal and find themselves and focused less on the romance.

A huge thank you to Reader Voracious Blog and the Flapping Pages: International ARC Program for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
