This is a well written book about a young woman whose family is being pursued by a vengeful church to gain their ancestral powers. Lydia is the curator of a small history museum in Hattiesburg, Mississippi that likes to "let the dirty slip of the South show". Lydia practices ancestral magic and meets Jaleel when her museum borrows clothing from him for an exhibit. Jaleel is interested in Lydia and he gets caught up in the magic. The story is very interesting and I enjoyed it. There looks to be another story coming and I am waiting impatiently.
