The Love We Make

Rate this book
Ethan was my best friend.
Ace pitcher for the Atlanta Kings.
My confidant.
My protector.
The man I loved most in the world—as a brother of course.

He was supposed to be supportive and helpful and caring.
But he was actually crazy.

And never more so than after I told him my plan to lose my virginity. In the blink of an eye, Ethan went from brotherly love to overprotective daddy.

And now I was the one going crazy.

He had to back off before he risked our friendship.

So we made a deal.
A deal to end all deals.
With timelines, conditions, and even an exit strategy.

It would save the trust and love we made as friends.

It would help us get back to being us.

Or so I thought.

Obviously, as the author, this book is everything to me! But I think you will love it too!

Humor, passion, and love....

Baseball, life long best friends, and a virgin....

“I will let you go back to Ty, Maddy. But not while you are wet for me. Hands on the counter, baby.” Ethan said in my ear.

I could hear him undoing his belt and unzipping his jeans. I knew what was coming. Despite the fact that this was, on some level, wrong. That it could lead to more drama. More trouble with our friendship. And despite the fact that I was here with another man, I wanted what was coming. I wanted it more than I wanted my next breath.

“Please,” I begged, knowing he loved it.

This is the first book I read by this author.  Wow just in the first chapter we are hit with a bang. Madison wakes up to a man still in her bed. Ethan her best friend for years was stopping her from doing what she wanted.

Madison relationship with her bestfriend is so sweet and funny. I have found myself laughing out loud while I read this book. They finally see what others have seen. That they have loved eachother all along.

I really dislike Madison friends from work. I feel so bad for Tyson and Aaron they never had a shot with Madison. Hoping they get their book and find true love.

There's a part in the book that broke my heart I actually end up crying. This book I highly recommend and I can't wait for the next one. I love a book that takes me on a emotional rollercoaster. I'm thankful to recieve this arc thru the author.

It was a short read. I kind of liked it, I just thought it was silly they were friends for so long but never admitted their feelings to each other. Also the H had one night stands while he told the h she couldn’t do that. A bit hypocritical.
Anyway, it’s not a bad story but it needed an epilogue.

I wanted a friends to lovers book. And ya know......they can either go really well (like blindsided by Amy daws) or they can be like ma titties and be flat as the desert highway. I loved the beginning where the H is v@gina Blocking the girl from getting rid of her hymmen issue 😂 that was good....

Then she asks him to poke the hymen right outta the water! Like pew pew! Blast that sh!t! Innihilate eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. He says he'll do during a weekend away and they create a contract with stipulations.

But then the rigamorole happens. She says one of her contract stipulations is that she doesn't want to talk to him for a month to....get her head on straight and separate sex from any feelings she might or might not have!?

She's getting hit on from guys at this golf charity thing and sees a dude that she was v@gina blocked from that might have turned into something else had she had a chance?! Why?! Why DAFUQ was that in there. She invites him out to meet her at a club/bar place that they go to. shes dancing with him and then thr H comes and takes her to the batjroom to eff. He doesnt want her dancing with this dude while shes getting wet from him 🙄🙄🙄😬😬😬🤷 She's just emotionally cheating imho. Meanwhile the dude is fighting his feelings and being a puussssy about going after his girl. Its like......bruh. Talk to each other. You can use your big boy words with your big boy mouth and talk it out. Jaysus fuuuck.

Any diddly hoo. That whole part.could have been taken out. Efffing convoluted rigamorole I tell ya.

Hmm...so maybe less than a 3 star 🤔 maybe 2.74

Perfect Game

Watching Madison and Ethan revealing their love for each other will make you swoon and make you believe in true love all over again. They’ve been best friends forever and have loved each other their entire life but because their friendship identified who they were they didn’t know if becoming more than friends would destroy their already perfect existence! This love story is beyond adorable and will leave you smiling and happy with all the feels! Madison & Ethan where meant to be and once they overcome their fears of losing each other their love is timeless and forever. This story is yet another amazing addition to Rae’s series and you will not be disappointed! Happy Reading!

BEST FRIENDS to LOVERS, SWEET, ROMANTIC AND SEXY
Katie Rae has written an extremely sweet and sexy slow-burn romance between two best friends, Madison and Ethan, who have been life long friends since early childhood. Totally a 5 star read and the best, friends to lovers book I've read in quite a while.
Madison is a 24 yr old virgin than Ethan wants to protect and have her hold on to her virginity until the "right man" comes along to give her everything she deserves.
Ethan is a pro baseball pitcher who is just living his single life to the fullest, as he sees it, never having any trouble with keeping his bed warm by the ladies; however he's definitely not looking for anything permanent.
When Madison's work friends keep giving her grief about her "virgin" status and trying to peer pressure her into "giving it up" she drunkenly expresses her truth to Ethan about wanting to lose her virginity. But Ethan is having none of that and takes to sleeping at her place every night for weeks on end to hopefully prevent Madison from making a mistake.
Ethan even enlists a close friend to keep an eye on Madison when he's out of town for away games and Madison is ready to blow her top with the shenanigans the two are pulling to c**k-block her. So Madison comes up with a plan to make sure that she gets the tender, loving experience she deserves for her first time but has to get some agreements in place for it to happen. While the approval is gained, she is forever on edge second guessing herself even up until the last seconds.
When the moment arrives, all thoughts go flying out of the window with the sparks that are igniting and the sensual feelings take over. The weekend is literally as sexfest and Madison couldn't be happier with her plan of Ethan giving her the experience of a lifetime.
That is to say until the after thoughts appear and they both have the start of "feelings" developing when they agreed nothing would change and they would just remain friends.
I am going to say by this point I really wanted to reach in this story and smack some sense into Maddy and Ethan because they were both so clueless not realizing the love they already shared. Hearts get hurt, feelings get crushed and yes there were tears.
The ending has a beautiful HEA and a fantastic epilogue you do not want to miss! I could not put this book down. It has all the elements of a sexy, sweet, funny and touching romance that will draw you in and keep you entertained every step up the way.
I received an ARC of this book for a honest review.

Wow! This was my first read by this author and I can’t wait to read more. What a breath of fresh air this was. Maddy and Ethan were perfection. These two have been best friends since the age of five and have always been there for each other growing up and now adults nothing has changed, they are thick as thieves. When Maddy’s friends start pressuring her to lose her virginity, she figures why not and puts a plan on motion, but her bestie is always there to block her chance.

When Maddy comes up with an idea she turns to Ethan for help, but can he really be her first and keep emotions out of it? Can Maddy separate the two, friends and lovers? The funny thing is they have always loved each other, but never took the time to tell one another their true feelings and when the thought of not having that closeness anymore starts closing in can these two figure it out before it’s too late?? These two were sexy, steamy, fun and completely made for each other. Great read, I received a copy of this book.

This book... I didn’t do anything but read because it drew me in and nothing else mattered. I’m a sucker for long time best friends to lovers and I’m an even bigger sucker for pitchers. This book was perfection for me. Ethan is the best boy friend that ever girl deserves. He’s sexy, sweet, overprotective and absolutely clueless. Madison is the girl who has been holding onto her V-card for love until her girlfriends pressure becomes too much and she just wants it gone. Ethan steps up his protectiveness and it becomes his mission to keep her innocence in tack for someone who loves her. Maddy has the perfect plan... Ethan loves her... so why not just have him do it. He agrees after some conditions are in place. After an amazing All-Star weekend they realize that life just got more complicated.

What I loved about story is Ethan. I loved his moments when he realized that he was a hypocrite and that he loved Maddy the ‘right way’. There were times that Maddy drove me crazy and I just wanted to shake her. But this book... it made me remember how simple but complicated love is. Love comes in many forms and sometimes the ‘right’ love comes at you like a slider... the question is if you’re going to swing or just let it strike you out.

Sometimes we don’t notice what’s right in front of us.
As is the case with best friends Madison and Ethan. Having known each other for years, they never thought of the other ‘in that way’
Madison is 24, still a virgin and after, drunkenly, declaring she’d lose her virginity to the first guy who offered, Ethan has made it his mission to protect her and keep her from making a mistake. Could he have a hidden agenda or is he genuinely interested in protecting his best friend?
Is it possible to put your heart on the line without it being shattered into a million pieces?

The characters are described in a way that draws you in. You feel for them and connect with them. Certain parts made me emotional and that is what a good book does!

This was my first book by Katie Rae. Hopefully not my last!
I was very kindly given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I swear it’s like Katie Rae hears me say “I don’t like this particular type or romance” and then she says “ok, bet.” Friends to lovers...virgin, waiting to find the one...these are usually the types of books that I avoid because they are all the same. That is, until Katie Rae writes them. Then they are sweet and sexy and just a little taboo. They make you swoon and melt your kindle.
Maddy and Ethan were just perfection. They had an awesome friendship that spanned most of their lives, that relationship resulted in witty banter and amazing chemistry. With every page I read I fell head over heels for both of them and I wanted more and more! Another amazing five star read that will have me in a book hangover for days.

I'm madly in love with this story and with Ethan! Every book in this series gets better and better! This is a friends to lovers romance with a unique twist. Madison asks Ethan to take her virginity because she trusts him. Bless Ethan because he absolutely wants the perfect first time for Madison. We all know sex changes things, and it's no different between them. What is so wonderful about their story is how they realize not only their deep feelings for one another, but how they have always been there. Ethan is everything a girl could want, talented, strong, protective, and loving with a nice dash of cocky confidence. He loves deep and true while Maddy loves with a big heart and her feelings on her sleeve. I fell in love with these two! It's the perfect blend of tension, passion, heat and true love!

Awesome read! I wanted to keep reading and not put the book down. I knew from the beginning what was gonna happen. The awesome chemistry Maddy and Ethan had was off the charts! They couldn’t fool me. I love how authors tell the story about does he like me like I like him and keep you wondering the whole book til close to the end. Katie Rae you did an excellent job of keeping me on the edge of my seat. Ethan’s protectiveness over Maddy was so cute. He not only wanted to protect her but he knew he loved her and only wanted what was best for her! I love the playfulness these two had the whole way thru also.

When the mind hears the heart Happiness ensues

We all wish for a relationship such as the one between Ethan and Madison.
When saying “The Love We Make” to each other their hearts and souls are connecting at the deepest depth with a strength which makes steel appear weak.
....Even though it takes their minds from childhood to adulthood to realize Best Friends can have Multiple facets in a relationship....
I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE DISCOVERED KATIE RAE’S BOOKS!
The Love We Make was appropriately my first.
(This will make sense within the first few pages)
Looking forward to diving into her other novels.

Reading this story felt like I was watching a romantic comedy. It was awesome! I simply loved it. I loved the characters’ friendship, their predicament, their goofiness, their steadfastness to their hearts(to not sleep around when your heart is tied to the person you love), and their HEA. It was a great read and I highly recommend giving it a go. 5 solid stars.

*This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I hope there will be a book about Ty Black. If not, I hope the author considers taking that on.

Katie Rae's newest book was Oh so good. The relationship between Ethan and Madison was electric. I really enjoyed how clueless they were regarding their own feelings for each other (evil laugh). Their interactions were sow awesome and Drunk Madison is hilarious. I cannot wait for her next book comes out, also, Ty (swoon, and hint come on Katie!). OK I am going to go reread and then finish this review :) Upon second read, it just gets better... I still think that the Games we Play is my fave Katie Rae so far, but it could be because it was my first Katie Rae and you never get over your first (hehe). I cannot believe what happened to Benji, (gasp!, Seriously Katie how.. so mean)
If you haven't read it yet, get it, seriously why are you still reading this review.
Fine, (sigh) if you need a little bit more encouragement I know you will have a driving need to figure out how the heck this quote fits in:
“It was embarrassing. He legit licked me like a cat cleaning its paws—maybe 5 times—got mad I didn’t have an orgasm, and then his phone rang.”
hahaa, enjoy

I am updating this review after a response from Katie -

Normally, I wouldn’t change a review based on something outside of the book. However, my thoughts about ‘missed potential’ become something else entirely when I understand that this author deliberately makes drama-free choices for her characters. It’s something that I respect SO MUCH.

I wish I had known that going into this read because it truly changes my outlook on it. So, that said, I do recommend this book. I simply recommend that you go into this book when you are looking for a drama-free read. Something sweet, with spice, and a HEA that will make your heart smile.

I’ll definitely be reading the book she recommended. I’ll just be reading it when that theme is exactly what I’m looking for.

My main thought while reading this was ‘missed potential’.

It took me a while to get into this book. I nearly DNF’d by the time I got to Chapter 10, but I wanted to see the spice pallet. And I am glad I stuck it out.

There were so many moments that could’ve upped the drama or built the tension in this book. So many moments when our heroine could’ve stood up for herself. So many moments when our hero could’ve been more forthcoming.

These two have been friends their entire lives. They say ‘I love you’ every single time they see each other. It’s not stretch at all to see a couple who clearly cares so much for each other get intimate. But it is something that can make or break a relationship. So, there should be tension. Lots of it. And I was hoping for more.

This book was recommended to me as a ‘smutty, but not mean’ rec. And while there were a couple of solid 4 chili pepper moments, I have to give it about a 3 1/2 overall. The thing is, I think I picked the wrong book from this author to start with. She has a world of potential and I liked the way she writes. But, I did not like this book.

There were absolutely beautiful moments. The situation at the end and the way their relationship was resolved (no spoilers I promise) was breathtaking. It was beautiful. But I really wish that thought resonated for me with the entire book.

Overall, do I recommend the book? No. But do I want more from the author? Absolutely. Like I said, I think I read the wrong book

If you’ve read Ms. Rae - please let me know which book of hers that you love the most. I definitely want to give her another shot, but since this is the book I was most drawn to, I don’t really trust myself.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was really impressed how quickly she pulled me into the story and her writing.

I was recommended this book when I was looking for a friends to lovers story that had an alpha hero. This was everything I wanted. The MC’s were best friends since they were kids. When he got recruited to a baseball team in Atlanta the heroine followed and went to college there. They were inseparable all their lives. With an overprotective best friend always cockblocking you how is a girl ever going to lose her virginity. After telling the hero that she plans to just “get it over with” he sets out to make sure she doesn’t. Under the impression he just wants her to save it for someone who deserves it and not just a quick bang in the bathroom he makes sure he is there is some form to stop her. He stops at nothing short of even having a friend intervene while he is at away games.

The heroine has a plan. Who loves her more than the one person who has always been there the through everything? She asks her best friend to take her virginity. After making a plan to spend a weekend together and then after that go back to being “best friends” they think they are ready to make it work. Little do they know that one weekend will change the course of there relationship.

You might think this is a very predictable story line, and your right it is sex always changes a relationship. Plus its a romance book so we know how it’s going to end. But…… this was so very believable. The way the author wrote the story line and the emotions make you think if this was actually happening in real life this is how it would really play out. Two best friends figure out the feelings they have had all along was actually the “right kind of love”.

If you are looking for a long time friends to lovers story with an alpha possessive hero than give this one a try.

4/5⭐️

So cute!!

Ethan and Madison have been best friends since they were 10.

He has had a crush on her off and on but since they were so close he pushed it away and moved on.

She is now 24 and still has her v card. She is ready to give it away but when she tells Ethan this he gets super protective.

He doesn’t want her to just give it away to someone, he wants it to be special for her because that’s what she deserves.

She ends up asking Ethan to take her v card since she knows that he loves her.. At first he laughs because he thinks she’s joking but then agrees.

He has stipulations, she has a few of her own.

The big night is set for after he pitches in the all star game…

Things get hot🔥

They have 40 hours of being together like this and then it goes back to being best friends…

The morning they are set to fly separate ways she notices his change and it makes her sad even though they agreed…

Now comes the full month of not seeing each other which is insanely hard for both of them….

She is sad and missing him, he is not pitching good and is missing her…

She flys home and talks to her mom about everything….

Both of their parents know they are in love with each other and have been waiting for them to figure it out…

Ethan shows up and everything clicks into place🥹

"NOTHING HAS CHANGED, MADDY, BECAUSE I'VE NEVER LOVED YOU LIKE A SISTER. NEVER. SINCE WE WERE TEN YEARS OLD AND I FIRST TOLD YOU I LOVED YOU, IT'S BEEN THE KINDA LOVE THAT MAKES ME WANT TO FOLLOW YOU AROUND, KEEP YOU SAFE, BE THE REASON YOU SMILE, BE THE REASON YOU'RE HAPPY, THE REASON YOU'RE SATISFIED."

Childhood best friends✅
Friends to lovers✅
Baseball Romance✅
Virgin MC✅

Plot 5✨
Spice 4🌶️

The only thing Madison said she wanted when she grew up was to fall in love, marry her soulmate, and have children. She has tried and failed to get past the first few dates to even get to maybe falling in love all because of who her best friend is, MLB Pitcher Ethan. She wants love but what she wants more is to no longer be a 24-year-old virgin.

Ethan would do anything to make Madison happy, he has for his whole life. However, he won't sit back and watch her give herself to some random hookup who won't treat her the way she deserves. He has done everything in his power to make sure she didn't get that hookup, even having his old catcher stalk her when he was gone.

Madison is had enough of Ethan and his overprotectiveness, so she proposes a plan. Only problem is this plan could ruin everything between them.

Why does Ethan care so much?
What is Madison's plan?
After years of friendship will they learn the difference between love you and I love you?

Just like the other books in this series I was instantly hooked and couldn't put it down. I wanted to take Ethan and Madison to the eye doctor to have them fitted with glasses because they were both so blind. Katie did an amazing job showing up the realness of someone battling feelings for someone that has been their best friend for so long. I will warn you the wakeup call that they need will pull on your emotions so be ready. Once again, an amazing story written so good that you will forget you are reading and soon the ending is near.

At 22 percent, I just squealed. And I don't often squeal when reading. It's a rare occurrence. I can't even remember the last time it happened. So, safe to say, I'm into this story.
At 27 percent, the friendship between the two main characters is so freaking wholesome and sweet, even when they are discussing the MMC taking the FMC's virginity. These two have been in love with each other so long, they don't even realize that's what it is. They think that's just the way friendship is.
At 84 percent, I'm close to crying my eyes out. Didn't see that twist coming. I won't spoil it, but it's incredibly sad. Also, I'm glad that someone finally told either Madison or Ethan that they've been in love for years. Crazy fools are so in love, it's coming out of their pores.
End, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This is a new author for me and I'll definitely read more of her books in the future. The writing was great. Pacing was just right. Characters were fleshed out well. So many sweet and sexy moments. Just a five star romance all around.
For people who look for this: there was a sex scene where the FMC and MMC have sex against a window.

Katie Rae is one of those authors that pulls you in with storytelling. Her characters are well thought out and their stories are told with such love.
“...I don’t think we were ever going to be able to make our friendship work forever. I think you and I have always made love.” - Katie Rae, The Love We Make
I loved Madison, such a supportive best friend, such a good match for Ethan! Ethan made me laugh. I love books when the characters are denying their true feelings and we get to see the realization and then bask in the love. And man, these characters put me through it with their blindness to their own feelings. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for what Katie Rae writes next.

Steam: 3/5 🔥

#thelovewemake by @katie_rae_author is book three in the series.

Ethan is a star pitcher in the MLB. With all his fame and fortune he’s never forgotten his best friend. Maddison is always there for her bestie. Especially when he needs an ego check. But these two best friends make a deal of sorts. It brings you up and down through there relationship and the true love they have for each other. There’s a part that broke my heart (IYKYK) but it made Ethan realize the importance of his best friend. Side note, it’s always the quiet ones 🥵. I am absolutely binging this series. I just loved their love!!🥰

“Before I do this, I need you to know I love you. I know I say it all the time, but I need you to know that no one will ever love you as much as I do. You hear me?”

These two had a relationship that was sweet, funny, and honest and I could not put it down. The fact that they were both so oblivious to how amazing their love already was had me in a trance. They left almost no boundary uncrossed, until Maddy asked Ethan to take her V card and demolished any remaining physical boundaries that they had left. Ethan was crazy and possessive in such a hilarious and sexy way. Maddy was seriously the most supportive best friend, but made sure to give Ethan a hard time and the dynamic that they had made this book a must read.
