Starting at any university is a major step in life. Students who speak English as a second language, studying in a new country, are taking an even bigger step. Based on interviews with international students and their teachers, this book offers straightforward advice on academic topics such as language use, as well as social topics and the culture of Western universities. It also contains a helpful mini-dictionary of university words, and so will be an ideal guide for any international student studying in an English-speaking university.
This is a very ancient book in my timeline. I first started reading it when I was in 11th grade and the reason for that was because I was searching for ways to improve my writing and presenting skills. English as a language, like any other language is an art by itself. Knowing and understanding the literature behind it will help you tackle the never ending grammar rules to the countless vocabulary words and when to make the right choices during constructive writing. This book takes you step by step on how to build a good writing structure regardless of the type of essay or manuscript you're working on. In great addition, the mid-chapters of the book also give you hints to work on your presentation skills and on the presentation content itself. I finished this book a year later during my senior year in high-school just when I was about to start working on my valedictorian speech. It helped me a great deal and as I was going through my old bookshelves I noticed it and had to write a good review about it.
