For fans of Once & Future and Undiscovered Country comes an all-new original series from #1 New York Times best-selling author Tom Taylor (DCeased, Immortal Hulk) and artist Daniele di Nicuolo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) about seven powerful secrets -- words, wonders, weapons, and worse -- with the power to change the world.. For centuries, the Order has trusted in Keepers and Holders to guard the Secrets in seven briefcases against all harm, but when their stronghold is attacked and the secrets put in peril, the entire Order must face their greatest fear -- an enemy who knows too much and is willing to kill to get what he wants. Now, the Order's newest member, Caspar, must discover the truth of the Secrets before the enemy does, or risk losing everything.

A great start to a new Tom Taylor series. The two protectors of the seven secrets have a secret of their own. Meanwhile the secrets are threatened and one of them goes on the run with said secrets. Di Nicuolo's art is bangin, full of kinetic energy, it's always in motion.
Eva and Sigurd work for the order of the seven. A group that protects the 7 secrets from falling into the wrong hands. People have tried forever to get their hands on these seven secrets. Eva and Sigurd also have a Secret of their own. This leads to a very sad decision that they had to make. Then this book comes to a close with a tragic ending. Pretty dope first issue. Definitely looking forward to more.
In this world there are seven powerful secrets. These secrets are protected by the Order and are guarded by a pair solders (a Keeper and a Holder).
But as these stories go, the Secrets aren’t so secret and someone wants to posses them all. Someone with a secret of their own.
This book has style of days. The script is quick and sharp. The dialogue cuts to the heart of the characters and the action without becoming verbose. The characters are well defined. I latched on to them so quickly. I already have a fave, “cough” Tajana “cough”.
The artwork and coloring are gorgeous and thrilling. It has great energy, movement and humor. Love the scale and the colors. The Miguel Mercado variant covers are dazzling.
I feel this is going to give me a big, epic, fantasy adventure. Something to rival my love of Once & Future maybe???
We’ll see.
Oh, and there’s no need to make an excuse to wear a cloak. Cloaks are cool.
There's a lot teased here that I hope to see fleshed out, but it is such a promising start. I love the art and colors. It’s visually vibrant and striking in ways that, in my opinion, serve an action oriented story well.
The story has many compelling factors for a first issue. The characters of Eva and Sigurd, with their relationship, is especially interesting as it appears to be setting up as the heart of the series. Tajana is one that I absolutely want more of. "And yet, look at me, JUSTING." I loved that moment and want to learn more about Tajana's motives. Amon seems a bit standard for the power/secret hungry villain, but I liked his directness in that moment with Sigurd. I didn't like the outcome, but there was no overdone monologue or excessive brutality that is often seen in that kind of situation. It was bluntly brutal in a way that gets the point clearly made that Amon is the bad guy without making him absurdly evil. That makes me more interested in learning about him and his motives to see what that adds to the story in future. And, lastly, I am very interested in meeting Caspar.
Ok, I'm real intrigued here. I think the whole "guardians of secrets" thing is a bit over-used, but it is presented interestingly here. Choosing duty over family in an obvious (not just through emotional neglect) way makes this feel more unique.
Although, if holder and keeper are usually heterosexual partnerships, you think the Order would ensure some good birth control if babies are gonna be a problem.
I wont lie, this had me crying a little. It was a high stake entrance that caught you right in its trap and made you want to pick up the next volume straight away. It's all about some kind of secret society that is trying to keep something called the 'seven secrets' far from the reaches of anyone slightly evil, and at any costs necessary. Theres a tragic ending and I'm waiting with bated breath for issue 2 to arrive on my doorstep
This one was recommended to me by a friend. Interesting overall concept. I had never heard of the book nor the writer before reading this. Two people that are members of a secret society that protect (as the title suggests) seven secrets are forced to make a difficult decision. A lot of time skipping in this first issue. I'm glad I read it though. I'll be checking out further issues of this one..
I liked the art and story, however, it didn't really grab me. I personally don't like it when comics start out on tragedy. Probably will not pick up the rest of the series.
