You don't have to be a wolf to show your claws, but it helps.

My five boyfriends - yes, five - are being much too patient with me. That's pissing a few people off. It seems that when living with a pack of wolves, there are certain expectations for the alpha's mate - and I suck at this. A few months ago, I had no idea shifters even existed!

I just wanted a safe home, and this is it, although it's not at all what I imagined. When an ex-girlfriend decides to make my life a living hell, pack rules say that if I want to keep my place, I need to win my own fights. That's not easy when she's young, fit, beautiful, and a wolf.

I'm not.

But with the help of a few friends, a little medical advice, and a whole lot of pent up sexual frustration, one thing is going very, very well. Five boyfriends really are better than one. I just have to balance them with my child and these new pack responsibilities.

Because, this was my second chance. I'd intended to learn how to be strong, but I was thinking more about having my own opinions and less about dominance challenges! I should be focusing on the bully picking on my daughter at school. The pack's children are being singled out by some kid, and that is a problem - but this woman will not leave me alone!

So if I want to be strong, I need to stop letting others push me around.
It's time for the claws to come out.

Note: Wolves Next Door series contains profanity, consensual sex, and one adult woman who falls for multiple younger men. This is the second book in a trilogy.

Not quite 3 & 1/2 stars
A person needs to start with book 1 to not be lost, as this jumps in where it left off. I do have to say that I liked this book better than book 1, and when I finished book 1, I wasn't certain I'd move onto book 2, but am glad I did, this book tied up a few mysteries that just didn't make sense in book 1. The down side, this book moved incredibly slow, I kept checking percentages to see how far I was, cause it seemed to drag too much. The story did end with a very mild plot cliff-hanger.

I think the big thing that held my attention in this book more than anything, was I pretty much liked all 5 of the guys in the RH, which usually doesn't happen for me. This also was in spite of them not being fully fleshed out as characters. At times they did seem to be interchangeable as I didn't get enough personality differences between them for the most part to differentiate at times. Poor Pax, I felt he was still short-changed in this book, not getting much time with him. There was some stuff mentioned about Pax & Trent -being ying/yang, twinsies, doing everything together, etc, & but that they wanted to feel appreciated separately, but then they still insisted on doing the ménage with Elena, so that was confusing to me as a reader, do they want individual time or only ménage time? I still feel that "more" needs to be given, to add dimension to the guys in order to really know them & to be able to see definitive personalities with each, I had to backtrack too many times to see which character was in the scene since nothing stuck out in my mind (even though POV's were labeled). Now, Elena, she's better than in book 1, but the hanging on the fence thoughts she has about being "changed" was just dragging the book down, I can only hear the same arguments over & over so many times before I am sick of it. Her character was more consistent than book 1, which did help. Then there's the daughter, Gabby, who I don't like. It's really confusing to take an almost 15 year old girl that's one minute a hormonal raging teenager, and then make her so worldly and smart, then to a snotty attitude... it made it really hard for me to like her. I guess it will depend how I feel at the time when book 3 comes out if I continue on with the series.

I enjoyed the first book, but for me it went down hill with this one. Not the writing style I enjoyed that, it is the ratio of action to analysis that turned me off. For every action/event that takes place, there are many chapters telling us how everyone feels about it and why. I ended up skipping chunks because I was bored; my imagination had nothing to engage with, no need to wonder why someone says or does something, it’s going to be explained to death from everyone’s point of view.

Elena also became really annoying for me in this book, with the extreme mood changes and constant whinging. The men spend chapter after chapter telling us how amazing she is, how selfless, how in love they are, how her strength (which is much discussed) is her kindness, only to have her do something spectacularly stupid, selfish or unkind whilst still get praised by everyone. In places I was cringing as I read, and not in a good way, it was uncomfortable and I wanted it to stop, especially the drunken Karen incident, the school emergency and the pre-divorce arrangement.
There are many reviewers who really enjoyed this book. I needed more action, less analysis and a heroine who’s actions matched her personality.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Much Better than book 1

Now that we have moved on from the fretting this book was much much more interesting and significantly less boring. Elena was in the know, and now she had to think about her daughter but also the pack being Alpha Female. Some more things about the wolf history was given as well and more about the process was explained. Gabby wasn’t so bratty and matured significantly.

But the premise and tropey thing that happened was the irate ex fling. *insert eye roll* It’s so over done it was boring. I didn’t care about Karen. I also thought it was a bit stereotypical to have her named Karen and with the manager hair cut.

The fact she was a fling and thinks she’s owed something drives me nuts. She isn’t owed anything and yet she’s probably going to cause more problems in the next book. I’m also surprised the next book is the end of this series because I don’t think I’ve learned enough about it. But who knows. Maybe its being set up for a spin off with the kids?

I enjoyed all the POVs some things were still glossed over but not as much in the last book. Pacing was significantly better too.

One thing about this, first is there’s a school shooting. I disliked that the shooting day was basically February 15th and then we reference Parkland without naming them. That bothered me I don’t like using that sort of event as a prop. Or at least the way it was done here. I also find the person going on a shooting rampage and his reasons suspect.

Also I’m waiting more for Samantha to have issues no FBI or anything about that whole thing? Idk.

Still I did enjoy this a lot more than the previous. As long as she keeps growing I’ll be excited to read the next one.

This book also has a sneak peek into the first 2 chapters of the next book. I’ve yet to read them because October is next month, and I don’t want to NEED the book right this minute lol.

Woooooo boy! This book and SO MUCH going on! It was all still very very good. I loved every moment the men were being so considerate and caring towards Elena and Gabby. One minor caveat is that there were def parts I felt were very repetitive. And I can understand why but wow we keep going around in circles over this one particular issue! Onto the third and final book!

So much repetition in the conversations. Like the same things said over and over in the same conversation and then again like hours later. That said, I still really enjoy reading it even with the skimming towards the end.

Excellent as always

So good!! I love having an older female MC and I love how she grows and changes! Seeing a mature woman face issues and overcome those feelings we all have are uplifting! Having her be a mom and showing those mom feeling is so awesome! As moms we are always putting other ahead of us and it’s great to see the guys put her first! She’s got some awesome men that work thru their own issues! Such a complex set of characters and it makes it all amazing!

Elena is now fully aware of who belongs to the community of Wolf's Den. However, not everyone is happy that she's there and that she's Ian's mate. Karen, one of the Betas' ex-girlfriend, feels like Elena has taken her rightful place as the Alpha Female so she attacks Elena every chance she can. When then a kid at Gabbi's school start shooting students to get turned into a werewolves, the pack has another problem on their hands. But Gabbi and her friends are more resourceful than the adults think.

I really like this world that Auryn Hadley created. It's constant throughout the books and the characters are well-developed. They don't fall in love with each other right away, but their relationship takes time to be forged.

3.5 stars. Only because.....

First, I would like to say that I absolutely love this author and I am always on the look out for her next book. The only reason I gave it a 3.5 rating is because there was just too much political writing in the last 2 books. I will continue to read the series because I am curious to find out what happens next. This author always has some lessons to learn in her books, but this particular series has more than what I personally want to hear. This is just my opinion, but reading is a way to get away for a little while and escape all the madness, so no I don't want that much in my books. Again, I enjoy this author and will continue to enjoy reading her books. As for the rest of the book, I have enjoyed watching the main female character grow into her own and how protective she is of her child. As a mother of 2 kids, well not so young anymore 18 and soon to be 20, I can relate to all the antics of the young and how that guides us in our decision making. When it comes to all of that and the issues with the biological father, it is a fantastic story. So yes, I would recommend, I am just giving my own opinion on the other stuff.

Absolutely Amazing

I fell even more in love with Wolf’s Call then I did with the first book. I love the authors take on werewolves and how it’s a disease, kind of like HIV. I love that this series is all about Wolf’s Run and how it’s a community where wolves can be themselves and not have to hide.
I really love that Elena’s relationships with her men grow so much in this book. I love how each man is different and gives her different things that she needs in a relationship.
I also love how far Elena has grown. She’s finally starting to see that she is strong just the way she is.
I can’t wait to see how her story ends!

I think it's the first book of Auryn that is boring. Not much is happening, all this lovey-dovey shit is getting annoying. I'm a woman in my 40s and a mother of 2, I'm divorced, I should be able to relate - but no.

Howl it all out

Elena is making moves. First she moved she and her daughter away from her husband. She moved careers. She moved out of her comfort zone and started dating 5 guys. She moved past her daughter deciding to become a wolf. Now she just has to ensure that Gabby will be taken care of, in case something happens, and she can move on to her new life with no worries. But when her pack comes under fire, she make a bold move for a human, she makes a move towards leadership. Not a token one as the alpha's girlfriend, but an actual take charge leading role. Who knew the nice, baking, mom of a teenager had it in her?

Spoilers ahead.
I said it after the 1st, and I'll say it again. This is so much more than just a cougar mom getting her groove on/back. This is an onion story. Layers upon layers. Learning that Auryn wrote this as the parental POV of a YA makes it even more amazing. Because the teenagers really are almost feral, breaking barriers, and changing everything. But, Gabby has to get it from somewhere, right? And it sure wasn't the DNA donor. Trigger warnings for a school shooting event. Considering how many parents, and grown teens, and now adults have survived, lost loved ones, or otherwise known that trauma, it bears a warning to readers. Only injuries, no losses, but with as prevalent as the occurrence sadly is, far too many have been touched by it. It isn't graphic, events move through and past it quickly.
*I love how Elena is learning what strength is. How it goes beyond physical.
*I intensely diskliked Gerardo after his casual indifference, but he claimed the irredeemable loathesome badge this book.
*I understand why the 2 hung back, and their concerns, but it was a little sad to see them do so.
*Can I say how much I adore Henry and hope maybe he finds someone(s) so he's a little less lonely? Even if it's just a new friend to BS with. His pack keeps him going, I just want his personal life to be as fulfilling.
*I'm loving all the mushy moments with the pack. And her new club.
*I maybe, possibly, ok really laughed hard over the ex's name. Especially with the cut.
*We get more info about this world of shifters, like an expansion pack. Punny, right?

This was sweet, funny, scary (especially from a parent's POV), wondrous and frustrating. Everything a second book should be to keep you going in the series. All too often trilogies are wow, ugh, and wrap up with a really?? And, while knowing this is only a trilogy is sad, because I am really enjoying these characters, there's a lot of room to expand, too. So, maybe, our beloved author will give us Gabby's story after she grows up? Or add some fun POVs about wolf camp? (Hint- David's) She's like catnip to us readers, creating these worlds and hooking us in. Seeing the announcement of a new book is like her rattling the tin. You just know you're going to roll in it and zone out.

I can so relate with the concerns of the FMC

Auryn Hadley has given us a PNR about wolves that actually tackles the angst of a 40-year old FMC trying to change her life at a very vulnerable time in her life.

Elena has so many decisions to make that its all so overwhelming and I can certainly relate with her. This series is an excellent example of how our lives are truly never in our control. As frightening as change is we have to face the changes that present themselves head on because change is always going to happen whether we like it or not. 2020 and COVID-19 has presented all of us with the necessity to change and adapt. At 60 years-old, and disabled with severe arthritis for the past 30 odd years, I've been forced into more change as I've ever had to step-up more to take care of my 85-year-old father, whom has Parkinson, 24/7. I'll admit with all my issues I thought things couldn't get worse but with all the earlier hurdles in life I've been able to cross another bridge with the help of my mate of 33 years and whom I've known for 42 years. This past year also tested for the first time my trust in my husband started the year off with quite the bang in February finding texts between my spouse and an unknown woman. The kicker was that this occurred innocently enough the day before Valentine's Day. After putting myself through sleepiness nights and a week of hell I knew here was another hurdle that I had to face head on as well as my husband. To say the least this was only the first of what 2020 was about to throw at me. But with 2020 almost over, I'm actually pleasantly surprised how I managed to bend with the onslaught of problems/changes that occurred and have faced so far.

I'd like to apologize for my rumblings above but this is why I feel a kinship to what Elena has gone through. The author has given us an extremely thought provoking series that presents as usual as a very well written series that I could not put down and thankful that I already have book 3 to jump to.

4 This And More Stars

Wolf’s Call is the second book in the Wolves Next Door series by Auryn Hadley.

This was pushing on a 3🌟read for me. All in due towards Elena’s repetitive excuses. I understand truly developing her view on these topics, and her maturity in working logically to decide each course of action. There were simply a few cases where this constant pro/con list became frustrating to keep digesting. While still being an aspect of one of the key ingredients drawing me further and deeper into this story; the full conversations and realistic dialogue.

I definitely feel we were given the chance to further understand Seth, Pax and Trent. Seth showed new sides and opened up more in these pages, opposed to his widely nervous and held-back nature in the previous installment. Pax and Trent just further detailed their dual and duo preferences. While it can be agreed by many that their upbringing was unfair to their own childhoods and individuality, they’ve come to rely on and enjoy their yin-yang way.

I hope the next book has absolutely NO Gerardo, he honestly disgusts me. I’m excited to see where the joining of different types of shifters within the Wolves’ Run pack will work. And how we can expect the insanity that is Karen paired with the traditional Damon to ruin what is shaping up to be a beautiful community.

There’s also the consideration that while both Gabby and Elena are converted wolves, they are more dominate. Which when you take in Seth’s beta role shouldn’t be entirely shocking. But is sure to ruffle some more conservative feathers. Along with Gabby already building her Alpha pack, and including a human in her beta group, as well having a beta that is also a mate? More troubling that even separately these choices could’ve proven disastrous against other less progressive wolves.

Book 2 of 3. Wow, what a refreshing story! The MFC is a 40 year old latina, with a teenage daughter going through a divorce. She is strong but in a subtle way, and continues to question why the men are even interested in her which makes sense! Lovely PNR romance evolves, and they although all the characters have their own baggage to navigate they make it work.

I've got this on kindle and on Audible - BIG fan of the fact there is both a male and a female reading the relevant chapters. Would be even better if it was dual narration (when the man reads all male parts, and female does all female regardless of chapter it is in) but I've been spoilt by recent books with this feature.

There are a few twists and turns, but nothing too intense. Unlike book one this is definitely the middle part of a bigger story and cannot be read as a standalone. I am now on the third book of three, and more in the thick of it with a much larger cast of characters (lots of extra voice actors too - they've really changed how Ian sounds - I don't like it!!). I do however love how the relationships and characters have continued to evolve and fought for their goal for their wider community.

After deciding to date her 5 werewolf neighbors, Elena must figure out how to balance her obligations as a mother and her relationships, while minimizing her risk of being exposed to the werewolf virus and dealing with the guys' jealous ex.

I listened to this book as an audiobook and it was wonderful!

This book picked up right where the first left off and the author did an excellent job ensuring the the story was continued without any holes in the plot. I will say that I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as the first one. During this book, I found Elena's character to be much less likable and almost childish. She spends the whole book continuing to tell everyone that she doesn't want to be a werewolf, but as soon as she has to deal with Karen (the guys' ex), suddenly she is the alpha female of the pack and wants to behave accordingly?? Despite Elena, I found Ashley, Gabby, and the guys to be just as endearing as they were in the first book and really enjoyed that we got to read chapters from their perspectives instead of being stuck seeing situations from Elena's the whole time.

Overall, still worth the read!

I love Auryn Hadley, but this series is too much. Every time there's some emotional or mental progress with them main character, she freaks out and begins acting like a goldfish - no memory retention. She doesn't LEARN from her mistakes, except to obsess over the fact that she's made them at all.
Not to mention the fact that OMG I'M ALPHA SO I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN HAVE GOOD IDEAS. Seriously. She refuses to even entertain the IDEA that anyone else can have an idea worth thinking about, let alone trying. I get it, she's strong and resilient, blah blah blah. No. She's stubborn and irrational and doesn't actually take in any information. She asks the same question over and over until she either gets the answer she already wanted or she finally freaks out enough about something else to have it get through to her.
When the 14-year-old girl is the most rational, reasonable, and responsible character in the series, something has gone wrong with your main character.
I wanted to like the books and this series, but I honestly just couldn't. It is probably a me issue, but Elena just pressed all the wrong buttons for me and I started to dread trying to read more because it would mean I'd have to put up with her stupidity more.

Such a fun read! I love stories that have a lot of daily life moments instead of constant crisis. I love watching the characters flirt, deal with daily stresses I deal with, have conversations where they hash out normal conflicts.

I found the story refreshing. It had some situations I’ve seen another books like the jealous ex, but the way the relationship partners handled it was different than other stories. Their communication was so refreshing. I’m tired of books that just focus on examples of people behaving badly. It was nice to read the story about people showing healthy ways to handle things with mature communication. It’s so utterly delightful, reading about people having healthy conversations!

This book series has one of the most realistic portrayals of what if you found out your partner(s) are supernatural and I really enjoy that approach. It helps me get into the story more, see myself in that situation, and I have more fun reading.

Barkingly good

At times I felt like the conversations between Elena and her mates/friends seemed just rehashing things over and over again...Elena feels unworthy of the love of all the men in her life. She is worried about her daughter. She feels like she's weak just because she's not as physically strong as others. And these conversations just circle round and round...but finally some action happens in the second half of the book and it made up for the less active parts.

The underlying theme is finding acceptance, whether that's accepting yourself or accepting others or accepting help or love. There's also a lot about defining strength in yourself. Sometimes it's hard to step outside of ourselves to see our worth and the strength we carry. I love it when books remind me to look inside myself for my own strengths.

Anyway, this was a fun book to read on a lovely spring day where I'm trying to hide from my neighbours. I'm enjoying the series so far! Happy reading!

Wolf's Call

Here we are back again with Elena and her mates. I know I'm a bit behind, but I'm going with thr audiobooks right now and I'm loving them so so much.

Auryn Hadley has this way of writing books and creating her characters and plots just the way I like my books. I simply adore Elena as a more mature FMC. These books provide so much character depth and relationship development and the pace adds to this. There's never really a point where I felt like it was too slow or too rushed.

Another thing I love in this series are the supporting characters and how each of them are more than just a name and face. They have a background, stories and personalities that immediately drew me in as a reader.

For me, this series is a feel good series, focusing on these characters, the pack and the inner workings of both the pack and the relationships formed within that pack. I can't wait to go in the next book!

Guys, for those of you who want a “pure” or “true” RH then this is it…..it’s all about the woman but boy do I really wish we had some MM action. Anyways, I’m enjoying myself sooo much and I don’t remember what sleep is; thank God we are in festive season so no work!
Elena- so much growth
The guys - still failing to get a favorite like how is that possible? These guys are weirdly perfect, it’s annoying or I’m probably just jealous 🙄
I want more and more……might be a wee bit obsessed the withdrawal is going to hit hard.
I get where some reviewers say that Hadley’s characters tend to over explain the feelings-bit, rehash emotions and what not, I had never consciously realized it in the other series but in this one and particularly this book, Pax and Trent kinda did it and it almost got to me but not yet to the level of off-putting.
The character logos? Don’t know the correct term, I love Elena’s though!
Ms Hadley, you can write, woman! Thanks!

Great second book that I enjoyed more than the first!

We see Elena gain more confidence - in herself, as a mother of a teen wolf, but also in her relationships with the guys. We get more of each of the guys, and some steamy scenes between them and Elena, but also some sweet scenes with them and Gabby.
Elena and Gabby's relationship is stronger and more beautiful, as they are more honest with each other and really appreciate each other more. Gabby shows a more mature side as she realises her responsibilities as a dominant wolf.
Loved Elena's growing friendship with other awesome females, and the formation of their Sisterhood!
A lot happens in this book, and really allows some of the characters to step up and shine, and they start to realise just how lucky they all are.

Can't wait for the next/final book!!!

I was hooked after the first book in this series and Auryn didn’t disappoint with this follow up.

The characters are all unique and have serious depth to them. The FMC is so relatable it’s fantastic, as well as, her teenage daughter is too. The relationships all flow without seeming fake or forced. The storyline is consistent and isn’t bogged down with fillers or unnecessary content. There were twists in the plot that I definitely didn’t see coming and heart stopping moments that made me gasp. I cannot wait for the third book to come out, though I’ll be sad that the series will be completed. :(

In essence, this book was a fantastic read and I’ve already preordered the third book because of it! READ IT! Start with the first book if you haven’t started the series yet, you will not be sorry!

Sigh 3.5 Stars

So, book one I had some minor issues with not loving the writing style. It carried over to book two. I keep thinking about why I feel this way. I put my finger on it finally. The male leads have a sort of shared brain and countenance. Not to mention, every character, no matter their age or background come off written the same. They share the same logic, same mannerisms in how they speak and over explain everything. I get tired of reading them explain using examples.

Then there is an incident in the high school... and it was just unrealistic. It sounded like the 911 operator was first hearing about it happening, when that phone call was made after they got a phone call about it. It just... eh... it was detracting.

I'm not wholly invested in this series. Little things just rub me the wrong way... *shrug* Still a good read. Just not the best.

Yes yes and more yes

Just as with all Auryn's books, this is a masterpiece. The relationship between Gabby and Elena is the real showstopper. Honestly, in books like this, romance/rh you'd expect the focus to be on the women/men but Auryn writes big picture. She doesn't gloss over the hard parts, the teenage angst, the slamming doors, the hard conversations. Everything is written with such depth, such grace that even the most jarring of situations slip by with the ease of a surgeon's scalpel. You feel the burn after, but not before. A masterpiece and something I hope everyone loves as much as I did. It won't be for everyone. RH is still too taboo for some but I can honestly say the sex is a bonus and even if the story didn't have it, it wouldn't need it. This work stands on its own.

Hmm, it was good!

So, the story starts off after where we left off the first book.
Elena is back with her guys, and accepts to be in relationships with all five. But, it's not going to be easy because of the chances of disease spread. So, Elena and the guys learn how to navigate the situation carefully, especially since there is one obvious reason why she didn't want to be a wolf yet. So, while that's going on there is also another problem. Someone wants to challenge the Alpha female.....someone who is power hungry and unhinged, basically.

That's the premise of the book, mostly. It's kind of slow burn. I like Elena becoming bolder and confident in this book. And, her mates are also so sweet and caring. The women club, that was good too.

Onto the next book then, can't wait to read it...especially after that ending! Ooh, the other shifters! I am curious.
