Blanchard and Stoner come up with a story about a new employee summarizing key points of vision from the leader of a company who is the son of the founder.
In the story, how to develop and communicate vision in a company, in a department, in a family, in a life is discussed.
CONTENT OF VISION:
PURPOSE:
-it's your reason for existence
-it answers "why"
-it is significant and noble
PICTURE:
-focus on the end result
-it's a picture you can 'see', not vague
-it's proactive
VALUES:
-they answer "how"
-they guide your daily behaviors
-the need to be consistently acted on
PROCESS OF VISION:
HOW IT'S CREATED:
-involvement of others
-honest assessment of current reality
-creative tension (reality now and what it can be)
HOW IT'S COMMUNICATED:
-keep talking about it, share info and progress
-interpret events in light of vision
-once it's understood, the vision can be a rallying call
HOW IT'S LIVED:
-set goals
-take action
-stay focused on the vision, reset goals
-create supporting structures
I plan on using this as I continue to refine the vision for my life and work
It's a good read.
