Billie Eilish has inarguably been the biggest phenomenon of the last couple of years, with an audience large enough to make her be able to turn a somewhat random photo book of childhood photos into a bestseller. I was too curious not to peek.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy her music. I've been listening to Billie Eilish's music for three or four years now and to me, she's become increasingly difficult to understand as a phenomenon. I've watched her go from against-the-grain indie-pop gal to global superstar. The young teenager is now a young adult, and while a lot has changed for her as an artist (and person, probably, too), she is still being perceived as the one "to do things differently". She's not like the rest, they say.
The book starts with a picture of Billie's mom while pregnant and lead us through early childhood and puberty over to her recent Academy Awards and Grammy's appearances, ending right before quarantine started. A few photos are annotated and they all vary in intimacy and personality. I've got no doubt that Billie means what she's saying when she writes the following in the introduction:
But what triggers the desire to share these moments with the entire world? Why is there such an interest in it as well? I'm lead to realise that Billie Eilish is essentially part of an industry that is essentially creating art and entertainment, but is ultimately fuelled by money and people who are keen to make money. It's disillusioning and this book lead me to think of her as more of a product than much else. There's also the strangely lingering omnipresence of her parents in a lot of her output, who also co-narrated the audio book accompanying this publication (I haven't listened to it, so I can't comment on it) and who have also played an important role in her documentary (which sole existence also lead me to ask the same questions as I do now).
Superfans will probably enjoy getting more material from the singer as they're waiting for the release of her second album. I'm personally left with a slight unease that I can't quite put my finger on yet.

This was obviously done for the money. Sorry, I am really not sorry. If she wanted to share pictures of herself only because she "loves photography" and to give the fans a deeper insight into her world then she could've come up with a better idea that doesn't include money.
The least she could've done is tell the stories behind some of the pictures. What we got instead are two-line comments here and there that sometimes add nothing to the pictures shown!
With all honesty, if I was Billie Eilish's teenager fan, I would've gone crazy over this but for the rest of us...it's weird; having someone else's photo album in our library. Think about it.
Her songsare were incredible though.

I read this book because Billie Eilish is the one artist that has all my friends talking - across all demographics and areas of musical taste - truly amazing. So I decided read this book to find out more about her and her music. this is mostly book of photography (very little text) but I do believe it captured much of the creative process that has made her a global icon.

so first of I LOVE Billy Eilish and think she is incredibly talented. Secondly, I didnt know this was a photo book. However, if your going to narrate your photos, I feel like you should have something more to say than, "That was SO much fun". UGH. if I had made a drinking game of this, perhaps I would have given this more stars.

Beautiful, personal, and uniquely Billie
Billie's new book really gives an in-depth view on her life as a whole and the pieces of her that make her what she is today. I also reccomend the audiobook, in which she and her parents recount heartwarming, hilarious, and relatable stories.

This book is hard to rate because it's a picture book with a few lines of text. It's a really cool concept though, and I surprisingly did take something away from it. The pictures are in chronological order so you kinda get to watch Billie grow up before your eyes in pictures. It reminded me just how young she was when she started rising to fame. It also made me really miss concerts. This is a cute book for fans of Billie!

I love photo books as pictures tell stories and it leaves the viewer to process and interpret them. With minimal captions and lots of color this book conveys exactly what Billie Eilish talks about at the beginning of the book. If you're looking for a visual autobiography to date, this is it.

Ugh this could have been done so much better! This was literally just a big book of pictures, and only had maybe 6 sentences in the whole book. I was excited to read a memoir of Billie Eilish's life, but instead learned nothing. If you just want a picture book, then you may like this.

Disclaimer: before I checked out the book from the library, I knew almost nothing about Billie Eilish. Knew she was a huge star, recognized a couple of her songs, but that’s about it.
My friend who is more than a decade older than me kept telling me about Billie and how impressed she is by her, so not to completely get sucked up by the generation gap, I checked out both eBook and audiobook from the library simultaneously. First I looked at the eBook, which is basically a picture book with captions. That sparked my interest, as in...what the heck is the audiobook about?! Turns out, the audiobook is narrated by Billie as well as her parents, and it highlights many pictures that appear in the book. It is the best thing ever. Her parents are so adorable, and Billie is just this very talented, likable girl that knows what she wants. I’m so impressed. Unless you know Billie’s backstory by heart or have seen her documentary, I highly recommend flipping through the book and listening to the audiobook at the same time for the best experience.

Billie Eilish’s photo book, published in 2021, was underwhelming for me. While the visuals give a glimpse into her life on and off stage, it lacked depth or context to make it truly engaging.
She was still very young when it was released, and the content didn’t feel particularly revealing or insightful—nothing especially juicy or memorable stood out. I was hoping for more narrative or behind-the-scenes storytelling to pair with the images. Maybe if a similar project were done now, with more years and experiences behind her, it might feel more substantial.

So, I wouldn’t exactly call this a book, but more of a commentary. Regardless, I enjoyed listening to her and her parents as they shared their nostalgia.
I enjoyed learning more about Billie as a person.
This was a nice read to switch things up & lighten the mood. Billie is passionate & really finding joy.

What an incredibly unique look into someone’s personal life with very few words. I found it humbling to be towards the end and see her as who I know her to be and then to quickly flip back to her toddler years - absolutely cool. Definitely listen to “ocean eyes”, “lovely”, “everything I ever wanted” and more while flipping through. What a neat human being.

it’s almost all photographs, so i don’t recommend spending $35 on it. but if you’re a fan of billie eilish, like me, i would see if you can find it at the thrift store, like i did, and then just buy it from there. :)

Su carrera es meteórica, pero hasta ahora no conocíamos en profundidad su vida desde su nacimiento hasta la actualidad. En este libro, o mejor dicho álbum de fotos, hay cientos y cientos de fotografías inéditas de la artista, algunas de ellas acompañadas con anotaciones.
La edición del libro es muy buena, las fotos son de gran calidad y es de tapa dura.
Me ha encantado ver las fotos con su hermano, el productor, compositor y actor Finneas O´Conell. Se puede ver la buena relación que tienen desde pequeños y el cariño que muestra hacia él.
Lo recomendaría exclusivamente para l@s seguidor@s más fieles de Billie Eilish, un libro imprescindible en su colección de la artista.
