interesting story but a bit too slow going for me

Interesting start to Reachers multi-book spanning adventures. Fully plausible and well constructed plot points with a satisfying end. My only regret is that it took me so long to complete.

After reading a few reviews of David Baldacci’s John Power series, that suggest that John Puller's character is just a copy of Jack Reacher's character. So, I thought, considering how much I love David Baldacci books, and how much I enjoyed the entire John Puller series, I would give Jack Reacher a go.
I guess there were some similarities to John Puller, but not that close in my opinion.
I found this book to be very fast paced at times, and extremely slow at others. The copy I have is 525 pages and to be honest, I felt it could have been 150 pages less if leaving out some of the scenic descriptives, and not have lost anything from the story or plot.
The plot was very good, and it was written well enough, the characters were well described albeit, maybe over described at times.
All in all, it was entertaining, and did enough to encourage to read more Jack Reacher books, and I am assuming that as this was Lee Child's first book his writing will improve as I get further into the series.

The book was recommended to me.
I read it not knowing what to expect. The plot was great and it is a great page turner.
My view of Jack Reacher is a modern day James Bond on steroids. He is not my type of hero. Because he is the central character in the series of books, its unlikely I will read any further books by Lee Child
The author is an interesting presenter on BBC Maestro.

It was a bit gory like the title suggested : 'killing floor' but I loved how the main character figures everything out and it's so strategic I love it.

A great first book in the series. Reacher at his best!
