I learned two things life altering while reading Angels Walking by Karen Kingsbury:

1) Perfectionism is only what you perceive it to be in your own mind. No one is perfect. God did not intend us to be. He wanted us to have our own unique flaws to be individuals.

2) Forgiveness is powerful. One must learn forgiveness in order to completely give themselves over to God.

I am very excited for this new series by Kingsbury.

First off, I should say I liked the book to an extent. I find many of these books the same and that frustrates me. Secondly, allow me to say that it was written well but in a predictable Karen Kingsbury way. And I say that with no malice, trust me, I do not mean any. Karen Kingsbury writes for all people and they are very nice Christian stories. My only issues with them surround how they are constructed. To me, these stories have the same plot lines. Boy and Girl are together. Boy and girl are torn apart for some specific reason. Boy becomes damaged usually both physically and mentally. Girl happens upon Boy with her unending Faith and love. Boy realizes error in his ways and redeems himself. Boy and Girl live happy ever after even if perhaps not together.
I found these characters irritating as I believed the character of Sammy to be a bit naive and fantastic. I felt that the Angels mentioned in the title were a bit too elusive for the title including them. I felt they should be a bit more present than they were.
I am unsure if I will continue with this series as I realize upon writing this, I was more irritated than not with it.

I really enjoyed this book. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway. I believe we have lots of angels looking after us, so books like this make me happy.

It is a great story of two lost souls who the angels are helping to reunited so they can finish their story..

Good read

This one started out a bit slow for me since i am not a baseball fan. But as the story progressed it caught might attention. There is a spiritual realm that we all do not see, good and evil. I like to think that there are angels all around us, watching over us and even giving God a helping hand. So i enjoyed this one but not one of my favs by Karen.

I don't generally read Christian romance because it's just too fluffy, too sugary sweet. I remember reading a Kingsbury book years and years ago, so I thought I'd give this a try since I like angel books. This was like watching an episode of the old show Touched by an Angel, but grittier.

This book speaks my language, the language of the Christian community. I didn't find it preachy or over the top, since again, the language here is familiar to me (I've been in ministry my entire adult life). What could have been angst translated to real life drama - I've seen this kind of thing happen over and over again. At the heart of the plot is the idea that prayer is the answer to the problems, which, if you're part of the Christian community at large, is true. The main character blames God (as we all do at times) and in the end, things don't get magically solved. I think the ending illustrates Romans 8:28. While the characters aren't overjoyed at the way their lives worked out, they're still amazed at how well they did.

What I could have done without was the endless letters to Kingbury's children at the beginning and the notes at the end. I think those are best left to the print book where one can read them or not. I got about 5 people in and finally realised that the whole prologue was nothing but that. So I skipped on to the first chapter.

The narration here by Kirby Heyborne and January LaVoy is stellar. These are two seasoned narrators who know what they're doing. They did nothing but enhance the story and truly bring it to life.

Karen Kingsbury's writing hasn't improved. If anything, it's become worse. I found the characters weren't believable and the plot was slow and rather boring.

Firstly, I am in no way, shape, or form the intended audience of this book. I couldn't care less for sports of any kind (least of all, baseball) and I am not religious (and if I were, I'd still be the wrong denomination Christian for this). It was a frustrating read, but occasionally it struck a cord and I have to give it that.

Now, the angels in the title and who tie this whole series together are completely superfluous and occasionally annoying. The story would have flown much better without their presence and even the Christian elements would have been improved upon. As it is, all the "bad guys" are non-christian and all the people who help Tyler are devout, faithful and all that shit, except they wouldn't do anything unless the angels nudged them more or less subtly.

The protagonists are dull- Sami is incredibly naive and Tyler needed to be dealt a life-shattering blow in order to stop being an asshole. The only characters I enjoyed were Mary-Catherine and Virginia and even that in small doses.

The author takes precious time to catalogue every single movement when a character is "on screen", which eventually strikes you as a lot of padding (every intake and outtake of breath, every time Tyler picks up an object or greets someone, it must be mentioned he's doing it with his good arm, if he's drinking water in his car - and that happens a lot - it has to be mentioned that it's from a water bottle etc). There is very little left to the reader to do.

Also, is it really necessary to mention that Simi Valley is in California? 100 pages in? After a number of flashbacks and discussions about the place?

Hebrews 13:2 Do not neglect to show kindness to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels unaware.

This verse is written on the stud of our home by our kitchen sink. I wonder if this was Karen's verse as she penned this book, or what gave her the idea for the book, maybe both.

Tyler Ames wants to be a pitcher in the major leagues, but a injury in the minors sets him on a course that he never saw coming.
Virginia is a resident at Merrill Place where Tyler becomes a maintenance man to save up money for surgery on his shoulder, which wasn't covered through the minor league team. Virginia is stuck in 1970 and thinks Tyler is her son Ben.
Each of the characters in this book are in need of a miracle, and God sends angels to assist with the task. In true Karen Kingsbury style she pens a book that tugs at your heartstrings and takes hold of your soul. I have always enjoyed Karen's books, however this one will remain with me for a long time.
I had an encounter with an angel, October 1994. I was living in Hawaii, and I had a seizure at a stop light causing my car to stall, a woman showed up at my car door, she had called 911 and waited until the medical team arrived, and then she was gone. The EMT's tried to find her and she was no where to be found. I know that she was an angel who was sent to care for me that day.
Highly recommended!

The book starts out with a scene in heaven. Angels are given assignments. The reader is given a front row seat or bird's eye view of the messengers of His message - Angels. We then get the lineup of actors on the stage:
Tyler Ames is a national baseball hero.Sami Dawson once Tyler's girlfriend moves on in life. There is a brand new medic named Beck (Angel). Ember is a waitress that get's Tyler's parents to pray for Tyler. Beck (Angel) then poses as a man in a shelter to help Tyler apply for a job that leads Tyler to meet a woman with Alzheimers- Vigina Hutchinson.
This book was great. I identified with the characters. I cheered them on and cried with them. I felt their hurt and pain. I rejoiced when God's plan redeemed relationships. I have seen too much "Angel Worship". Karen does a great job in not allowing that to happen. We get a glimpse into the supernatural and that's all we really need. Jesus Christ is the One to be worshiped and that came out loud and clear without being preachy. Hebrews 13:2, "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." This verse will continually be in my mind from this point on. I look forward to the next books in this series.

Beautiful story

I literally read most of this book while my husband was in the hospital having major surgery to remove cancer. The synopsis of this book that there are angels among us and how the angels worked in the lives of the characters of this book brought me great comfort. The story was touching and the romance beautiful. It dealt with tough issues like Alzheimers, drug addiction and family estrangement. But KK brought it all together with an amazing HEA. Highly recommend this beautiful story.

What a heartbreaker! The emotions in this one overwhelmed me in a great way. It was so easy to relate to the characters in this one, despite my not having a lot in common with them. The story was written well and covered many tough topics, such as addiction, Alzheimer’s, and second chances. The journey toward redemption was incredibly powerful.

Content: alcohol, drug abuse, bars mentioned

Such an encouraging read that my Mum recommended years ago. This fictional narrative paints a powerful spiritual picture of angels walking on earth, God's hidden advocates who come to show us grace and point us to Jesus. I loved how the book began with a 'heavenly town meeting', where the angels gathered together to choose who would go to love and support Tyler. The angel's hidden work in the background (and simple acts of kindness) caused a catalyst of grace, faith and love for all the characters in the book.

It wasn't that the angels did loads (indeed they are hidden warriors of God), but they pointed the characters to a greater reality of grace. Through deliberate interventions, miracles and prayers, Tyler met Virginia (a lady living with Alzheimer's who loved Jesus), and found redemption and love. She told him "Perfect is God's job... you'll live your life a lot happier if you stop trying to be perfect" - and Tyler's life gradually changed from a reliance on what others thought, to a grace-filled understanding of his life and purpose.

Excited to dig into the other books in the series now.

Two young people, lost in their respective worlds, are marked for redemption by heaven's angels. The young man, a one time baseball phenom, now washed up. His future is bleak. The young woman has everything she has worked for. Except, she has this nagging unease that something is all wrong.
While I don't read a lot of christian fiction, I like a good story. The evangelical influence is there but not heavy handed most of the time.I do not enjoy baseball, but the story line kept me engaged. Overall, a good way to pass a rainy day.

This book will have you looking for your angels. This book deals with spiritual warfare and it’s written beautifully. I absolutely loved it. I loved our character Tyler in his journey. This is a reread for me and I believe Angel Walking is my favorite Karen Kingsbury book by far. I highly recommend it and it’s worth a 5 stars!!!

Sometimes in my life I need to read a book that is an uplifting faith journey. For those times Karen Kingsbury rarely disappoints. I was drawn into the story of Tyler and Sami, two young people who's lives were destined to intertwine. Both were raised to attempt perfection in their pursuits. They were pushed to achieve greatness, but not given the tools to deal with the realities of life. So it took some hard knocks, and Angel guidance for them to accept grace and learn from their failures and mistakes. As always, God is walking by their side, with each step drawing them back to each other. Looking forward to book two of the series.

I usually absolutely love Karen Kingsbury's books, but I couldn't finish this one.

I found it to be absolutely loaded with judgment - yes, underage drinking is wrong. But to constantly berate the character over and over and over again. College kids will explore relationships, so why look down upon him for that? And she acts as though riding a moped is equal to being a Hell's Angel. It's a MOPED!!!!

Furthermore, if we know who the few main characters are, is it really necessary to use their full names every single time their name is mentioned?

Karen Kingsbury books are always a guaranteed quick read, and I've been dying to read this one since it came out. The hard part about KK books is that I am still in love with her Baxter series, so no other book of hers can fully compare to them. That being said, I still had tears in my eyes in a few spots. Definitely a good read!

I've just discovered Karen Kingbury and I LOVED this book! The characters seemed so real to me and their problems felt tangible. I loved the feeling I had while reading this book, the reminder of God in our lives, and that even when things seem at their darkest, we have help from the other side. Excellent!

My favorite quote: ""I learned something a long time ago. I'd rather be single than with the wrong guy." Ember smiled. "Life's too short to settle.""

I loved the way Mrs. Kingsbury wrote the angels in the book, how angels can dwell among us unknown and look like regular humans. So awesome!

-Trigger Warnings-

-A character struggles with an addiction to pain medication after a bad injury for a big chunk of the book.

-College students drink alcohol (not written in a way that promoted alcohol consumption, just that it happens)

-A side character is seen swirling the wine in his glass.

-A woman's boyfriend has a bottle of wine on the dinnertable, and she mentally notes she doesn't drink.

-A character loses a loved one to a heart attack. Also grieving is shown.

-A woman dates a Christian man who was a chief fundraiser for a ministry that worked to rescue kids from sex trafficking. (This is the only mention of this subject through the entire book.)

Romanance Level: Only a few sweet kisses (no explicit content)

-Language-
Very minimal -1× butt

-Negative-ish content-

- "skinny-dipping" is mentioned as a drastic comparison when Sami asks Arnie if the two of the them can talk alone someplace after having dinner with her grandparents and him.
He says "This late?" And looks at her puzzled. (It was only 7pm, and he usually dropped her off and left her apartment after a date by 9pm anyway.)
Sami thinks to herself..."As if she had suggested they go skinny-dipping at the Santa Monica pier." (They did not go skinny-dipping, they went to a coffee shop. It was just used as a drastic comparison because he was so dramatic, when her character proved she obviously wouldn't do anything unseemly.)

I probably wouldn't have wrote this part in myself, but it was not in any way upholding/promoting skinny-dipping.

I bought a copy of this book for my personal library and was not at all required to give a review. The thoughts above are my own.

Excellent story to remind us that we are all here for an important purpose. The hard lessons we encounter will be what strengthens our purpose if we allow them to grow us, and not defeat us. We truly have an amazing Father to love us and see us through those challenges.
