Perfect but too short!

It was like watching another episode of Tom and Jerry show reading this graphic novel! I feel like there's not much difference between these two!

I love how the original artstyle and the colours are used here. I love how the storyline is kept original as well.

It's Tom and Jerry typical story with Tom and Jerry fighting (of course!) trying to send their pictures for the probable candidates to win a meme competition online.

Love how these two fight like siblings but ending up together and one cannot live without the other.

Hahaha for once, Tom ..... . I won't say it. Guess!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

Such memories! Growing up, I always watched the Tom and Jerry cartoons. Back then, there were sound effects but we had to use our imagination to figure out the story.

In Tom and Jerry Grouchy Cat, the illustrations are just like how it used to be, but so much more colorful. The storyline was easy to follow and the Panel Talk prompts at the end of the book just adds to the overall experience. A wonderful book to read along with your kindergartener through second grader. Five stars. I loved it.

I received a digital ARC from Capstone through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really had a ride down memory lane. I always grew up with Tom & Jerry and it was so fun to read about them again. Even though it was very short it was still lots of fun and I really enjoyed it.

The art style hasn't changed since I last read about them and I love that they are keeping it old but gold. It's simply so fun.

'Tom and Jerry: Wordless Graphic Novels: Grouchy Cat' by Christopher Harbo with illustrations by Scott Jeralds is a graphic novel for very young readers with no words.

When Tom finds out about a way to make money with a meme, Jerry sets out to foil his plans. This leads to the usual madcap chasing and cartoon violence. When it's all settled, both Tom and Jerry are satisfied with the results.

I find it funny that they promote this book because it helps with literacy. There are no words and it's basically a cartoon, but it's a fun Tom and Jerry story like I remember, so maybe a new generation will learn to like these two.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Capstone, Picture Window Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Reading something that was an essential part of one's childhood; not only refreshes the memories held deep within but furthermore take you to explore the same jingles, cartoons, shows, etc. now.
I decided to select this title on Netgalley because it appealed to me not only because I have been reading comics more but also because it was Tom and Jerry! Thirty pages were like an episode of the daily hassle between Tom and Jerry and it was as always; fun!

Review to be added to Amazon UK and US on 1st January 2021 – publication day!

I really enjoyed this book and it read just like watching the traditional Tom and Jerry cartoons that I used to watch when I was younger!

The images are wonderful and they really do tell the story, it was great and I can see this one being a hit with all ages!

It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!!

This is the best Graphic novel. It would be great to have in the classroom. It is a wordless graphic novel with the only thing you read it the sounds that Tom and Jerry make. At the end of the novel, there is questions asked about how each character felt and can give way to finding out if the children understand what is happening in the story.

I never thought I'd see the day where Tom and Jerry entered a meme contest. If you're anything like me, you probably grew up on Tom and Jerry. It's not really all that surprising for people to latch onto nostalgic pieces of their childhood. Thus, the wordless graphic novel Tom and Jerry Grouchy Cat was a near-immediate request for me. And it's not all that surprising, either, that this book is sans words. In general, aside from that one odd movie (which I still loved), Tom and Jerry was a wordless cartoon.

What's in a Meme?

Now, when we say wordless we never really mean completely wordless. There are, in fact, a couple of words in this book just as there were in the Tom and Jerry cartoon. They just didn't come in forms of dialogue between the two main characters. After all, you can't really create a meme without some words.

This graphic novel pretty much follows the rules of just about every Tom and Jerry episode you can think of. This is one of those Tom has an idea, Jerry wants to be involved, Tom is mean to Jerry, Jerry is mean to Tom and then...well, you'll have to read it to find out the ending.

Oh, Nostalgia

The artwork here is very reminiscent of the characters you know. Frankly, I don't think I could tell you whether or not these artists had ever been involved in the cartoon. It sure looks like they may have been. They did an absolutely superb job of capturing these iconic characters. Chances are, though, that they weren't.

I loved how this story incorporated modern themes such as smartphones and meme-making. It's definitely one of those things where I think Tom and Jerry will live long past my childhood, perpetually getting updates in order to match the modern technological advancements and lifestyles. A cat and a mouse that hate each other can exist in pretty much any time period. I'm excited that the next generation will have the opportunity to grow up with these characters like I did.

I won't say that this graphic novel was anything exceptional and extraordinary. But it was fun. I enjoyed it and I'm sure that many kids today will as well.

I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to give this short and sweet graphic novel 5-stars. I think that the artwork and panels are clean and easy to read, they give life to the fast paced nature of the scenes much like how the original show was. The character designs stay true to the original ones and the Tom and Jerry's personalities are showcased well in the story. I think this little graphic novel did just what it set out to do, to give a fun little story without using words much like how the show was.
I've mentioned the show a lot now and I won't apologize for that. I think that the show was fantastic growing up. I think this story stayed true to that format and its heart, with some notable changed. The slap stick from the original show isn't violent and is very silly, as I was expecting given this is a story for today's children and isn't a fault at all. It actually works really well. Another new thing to take note of is the modernization of the setting, so now we get to see these characters interact with new technology and modern ideas like memes.
One thing that I found especially cool is the introduction panels and the ending "Panel Talk" pages. I mention the character intros because while that is common in some children's comics and graphic novels, I liked how it was done with these characters because just because they're old, doesn't mean they're recognizable. Also, with this being a wordless story, a little background on the characters is needed for readers just being introduced to Tom and Jerry. As for the Panel Talk section, I love that idea. I've never seen it before and it's fairly cute in my opinion. It is helpful in taking a moment for children to analyze and break down what is happening in a scene or figure out what the characters are feelings with guiding questions. I just love that.
The only thing that I could have done without are some of the facial expressions that Tom makes. They try to showcase extreme feelings, which makes sense given that it is a wordless comic, but I think that the expressions could have been dialed down some. It just reminded be of the modern day Spongebob realism faces or closeups that happened and I wasn't a fan of it, however it wasn't as bad as those Spongebob faces, so I won't doc a star for that.

Instead of purchasing this, best spend less for any of the 'Tom & Jerry' comic books that existed from the '40s through the '80s. This volume is a poorly illustrated, greatly lacking tale. Sequential story telling isn't difficult. The ones that put this together have a lot to learn. Making all of this worse is that this is basically a rehash of earlier 'Tom & Jerry' tales. The difference is a cell phone is inserted. There was so much that could've been done here! And with far less words!

A plus to the earlier comics, besides better stories and art, is that there are more of them. This book has just one story. One of those old Gold Key comics might run you a dollar to, maybe, ten, tops from a local comic book store. You can check E-Bay, too. That is the best direction for 'Tom & Jerry' printed material.

Bottom line: I don't recommend this book. 3 out of ten points.

I should note I got access to this volume via the #NetGalley service for a review.

My Review: I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley, the following is my honest review and opinion. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that Tom and Jerry are making a comeback. Munchkin loves watching the classic cartoons and Tom and Jerry is his all time favorite. I loved that this illustration style is still along the lines of the originals, but the modern elements are added in to appeal to this younger generation. It was a great modernization to revitalize this classic story of cat and mouse. This images are bright and bold, and being a wordless graphic novel it can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. This is definitely a graphic novel that will be added to our shelf and I can already hear Munchkin's laughter as he flips through the pages.

3 stars.

Ohh a classic show such as the famous Tom and Jerry, will probably never ever get lost in the crowd. I understand that this is for very young readers with there being no words and therefore a stronger need is relied on with the images. But I kinda get the feeling the story being told might be lost on a few of our youngest. Something just doesn't seem right. Still, if you are a new or long time fan of these characters, then I'm sure you will enjoy this, regardless of your age.

Not strictly wordless, as there are copious sound FX, and words appearing on screens, this dialogue-free comic is a quick bite of fun for the very young. Tom thinks he can make a fortune by going viral online, but how could he have a chance when there's a whip-smart mouse called Jerry around to spoil everything? How the heck people seem to think a hardback version of this would be worth £17 or more, I don't know. That must surely be a binding designed only for the richest children's libraries – as it is it barely entertains more than a news-stand comic, but it is pleasantly gaudy, dynamic and kinetic, and has a lot of visual quality that suitably harks back to the cartoons of yore.

I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Picture Window Books for giving me access.

This really took me back to my childhood. I remember watching Tom and Jerry cartoons all the time.

This is definitely an update to the Tom and Jerry most of us grew up with, but it was still hilarious as it is. It wasn't 100% wordless, for we still had to read action words but that was minimal.

If you are looking for a super quick trip down memory lane or you are wanting to introduce a classic to kids, this is definitely a great place to start.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC

Absolutely loved the graphic version of Tom and Jerry. Over the years the charm and lure of these two have not diminished and their rivalry is a treat to watch and now read. This is a wordless graphic comic but hey with these two its always action, right! The colours and illustrations are top notch and the only as such complaint to the author is as to why this could not have been a bigger story or at least a series of mini stories.

Overall definitely recommended to all cartoon loving fans and those who are yet to enjoy the magic of a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Dive in.

Oh, this comic really brought me back to my childhood. It was one of my favourite animations!
I have really enjoyed reading this comic. It was rather short, though. Still, I had fun reading it. It was interesting to re-visit my most favourite childhood cartoon.

Another e-arc from NetGalley

I like Tom and Jerry. I used to watch their show on tv. I was excited to see their printed edition. It is nice to see them keep up with the recent world.

Everything went as usual. A fight happened around the house . I love the ending. I also like how the art is not changing. They are Tom and Jerry that I used to see on tv.

I wish they are more panels to read.

3/5 stars!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book has a nostalgic feeling to me because of Tom and Jerry themselves. It's fun to read and has really excellent illustrations. I just hoped we got more, but overall, it's still okay.

This was so cute! It was like watching a little episode. I loved how the story was very modern, and how the images told the story on its own. This will certainly be a hit with young readers, they will love it!

This is a very short no words graphic novel. My 10 year old enjoyed it but in his opinion it was too short and could have been longer. To me it was classic Tom and Jerry. The illustrations are really good too.

I received an e-arc of this book from the publisher, authors, and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed reading the one episode comic of Tom and Jerry. With it being a wordless comic, it made me think about what the characters would say to each other. I have watched Tom and Jerry ever since I was a kid and I still love it to this day. I can't wait to read more Tom and Jerry comics in the future.
