When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.
You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

Where do I even begin with this review. Honestly some days I feel like writing a long and detailed rant about why this didnt work for me and other days I just feel like saying I hate this book and being done with it. This review is my honest opinion & genuine thoughts. This is just how I process my reading experience so please do not take offense to it if you have read & loved this book.
There are many that will enjoy this book I'm sure of it and though there were aspects of the book I enjoyed here and there over all this has got to be one of the most dissapointing books I've read all year. There were 2 major reasons I could not enjoy this book and honestly I probably should have given up and DNF'd it but alas I never learn my lesson and always hold on to hope that the story will eventually redeem itself and well yeah this one did not.
The first major reason I couldn't not enjoy this book is because even though this story is marketed as a standalone, it is still part of a connected series and having personally read every book in this series prior to this one was why I did not enjoy this book. Quick recap for those who are not familar with this series : The Locker Room (book 1) and The Dugout (book 2) take place or at least begin in college then The Lineup (book 3), The Trade (book 4) and The Change Up (book 5) all take place many years post college while the Heroes are all playing professional Baseball, not really a problem right? except we met Lincoln the hero of The Setup (book 6) in the previous book so we already know his current day situation ie where and who he plays for and his relationship status which again not really a problem EXCEPT 80% of the Setup takes place prior to the events of The Change Up. Do you see where I'm going with this? This might be something most people can over look but having read Meghan's books in the past I have a good idea of how her stories like to play out. She has a specific writing formula she likes to use which is fine they are her books/stories after all but knowing all this made me have this constant feel of unease while reading the entire book wondering when we were going to catch up to the current time line.
The first 80% focused on Lincoln and Indie's 'relationship' while in college so we went through a lot of them working on their sporting goals/career separately as well as together and how they wanted to progress post college in their respective fields (Baseball for Lincoln and Soccer for Indie)
We also got to see how their 'relationship' started as well as some funny banter & cute moments they shared and how they interacted with each other and how their 'relationship' developed. Now I say 'relationship' because I personally feel they were never really in one. They remained Friends with Benefits for almost the entirety of their 'relationship' and this book. FWB is a tricky one for me as I will either love the way its portrayed or I won't and sadly in this case it was the latter. This could very well be a me problem but I hated the development of their 'relationship' which brings me to the second major reason I did not like this book, the heroine.
Indie - aaah Indie so much to unpack here. Never in my life have I read about a more frustrating main character since well Emory from the Locker Room. Indie takes the cake for being my least fav character in this entire series. I didn't hate her to begin with, I understood her and Linc's desicion for wanting to focus on sports and keep their relationship casual and I initially sympathized with her reasons for being emotionally closed off due to her parents projecting such condescending and negativity towards her goals and passions in life as well as setting a terrible example of what a marriage should be (ie her parents were trash and honestly were not redeemable at all but I digress). But after awhile Indies actions started becoming more and more excruciating to deal with. This girl definitely needed some sort of therapy which was told she was in later in the book but obviously what ever help she was getting did not work. She maniputaled the entire tone of hers and Linc's 'relationship' and basically kept him at arms length until it suited her and her needs.
These next thoughts & opinions I shall tag as a

I know there is a potiential spin off of this series coming up next with some of the characters introduced her but I think this is the end of the road for me and Meghan's books.

I've loved every book in Meghan Quinn's Brentwood series and The Setup was no exception. This was such a fun, sweet, and lovable friends to lovers romance.
It started with two meddling moms... that's how Indie and Lincoln first met. Then they discovered they went to the same college. Lincoln is the pitcher for Brentwood's baseball team and unbeknownst to him, Indie Mayhem is the star of the girls soccer team and has a reputation for being unattainable. Indie and Lincoln become fast friends and sparks fly.
More than anything else in this book, I loved the friendship that Indie and Lincoln shared. This was a true friends to lovers story, and even though there were several bumps along the way, I loved that the friendship between these two stayed. I honestly think that's the greatest foundation in a relationship.
Quinn is always incredibly funny and this one made me laugh out loud more than once. Lincoln especially cracked me up. Even though there's tons of humor, there is also a bit of angst and a whole lot of heart.
I am here for any book that takes place at Brentwood college. These books have quickly become my favorite Meghan Quinn stories. If you love new adult and sports romance and you love books that will make you smile, laugh, and swoon, pick this one up!

Girl was self-sabotaging way too much for my liking. It's the way Indie put my man through an emotional rollercoaster for me.

Meghan Quinn knows how to write heroes! I fell in love with Lincoln. He’s an absolute sweetheart who’s focused not only on his career but his friends, especially the sexy woman helping him achieve greatness.
♕ Heroine: Indie is a self-possessed heroine who is determined to seize the life she wants but it also plagued by her parent’s drama which spills over to her own life.
♕ Sexiness: Even though Linc and Indie hit it off right from the start, this a delicious slow burn for both which I utterly loved.
♕ Feels: There were so many high points in this story, I’d have to narrate the entire book. I laughed so hard my belly ached, I fanned myself, I awed and smiled, I was brought to the edge of tears. It had everything I love about romance. So why the 4 stars? There was curve ball thrown almost at the end which I felt was unnecessary. All in all though, this was a fantastic read which I highly recommend.

Honestly? I'm actually kind of mad about how much I hated the ending. Quinn is one of my favorite authors, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. And I know she's been swinging for the fences with this series, but this book... really frustrated me. It's still got all of the things that I love about Quinn's work - the humor, the sizzling chemistry, the banter - but it also has some other things that I can't overlook. And I really, really HATED the last act.
The story follows Lincoln, a college student with his sights set on going pro. Lincoln's hoping to get drafted by a baseball team later in the year, so he's resistant to his moms' matchmaking efforts. But they finally seem to get it right when they introduce him to Indie. These two start as tentative friends, but there's obvious attraction between them that only grows as they spend more time together. The only problem is, Indie is an athlete too, and her life is moving in a completely different direction.
Let's focus on the good for a minute. Quinn writes such great dialogue and chemistry that jumps off the page. I loved the connection between these two, and while their reluctance to move forward frustrated me, I wanted them together. Indie's got the kind of personality that's difficult for me to connect to, but I loved Lincoln throughout. He's not the guy we fell for in The Change Up, but if you've read that book, then this storyline will make complete sense in the end. I wish that I had connected the dots sooner. Indie and the ending... they ruined the book for me, not gonna lie. So much time is spent creating such a great connection, only for it to be completely decimated at the end. And the reconciliation? Almost nonexistent. I don't mind a dose of angst at the end, but there are 1,000 different ways to go about it that would've been better. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this friends to lovers romance.

I really am struggling with how I feel about this book. It had everything I love about college sports romance and a few of the things I hate. And I really hate them so much it's just over shadowed everything I loved.
Indie had so much happening with her family I really liked how she reacted to it all. She didn't hold her punches or act like a victim she just dealt with it her way and it felt very genuine.
Lincoln made the story for me. He was so sweet and caring and his moms were insane. I really loved him. He maybe could have fought harder for what he wanted but I understand that he cared enough for Indie not to push her for more than she was ready to admit to.
And I was loving this book for the first 80% and then life separated them. And for the first part of the separation I thought I was going to be ok with it. I thought it was the mature next step but then they stayed separated and life kept happening. And by the time they finally got back together it was the end of the book.
I seriously hate that as a plot twist. It drives me crazy. So I fixated on that and ruined the story for me. And now I don't know how to rate this book. Because I love Meghan’s writing and I love the Brentwood series and I really wanted to love this.

Like many of Miss Quinn's books, The Setup have all the fun. Especially the meddling mothers. I know so well about meddling mother. Especially meddling on something private. I like Linc and I like his modern family. He grow up to be alpha male but with a healthy dose of sensitivity. I love a man with sensitive heart.
The comedy is the perfect amount to bring this story alive. I have little bit difficulty connecting with Indie. Her defensive and reluctant opinion about real relationship annoys me so much. At a point I think Linc deserves much better heroine who is mature and loyal. Her Idea of being Best friend with benefit is also selfish from her part.
Overall, this is a good story, mostly because of Linc.

Didn’t care for Indie. Not a fan of the “friends with benefits” plot. I also didn’t realize this would be a college heavy, new adult story. It has to be done really well for me to buy in and this wasn’t.
And the time jumps at the end, over those. It feels like an easy way out, a rush to end the book without giving us the actual story. It lacks closure and I end up not believing the HEA at all.
Edited this to add, the last 20% was horrible. Each time jump got worse and worse. Why is this couple even together?! Very disappointing book.

Tropes: New Adult | College | Sports Romance
Meghan Quinn delivers in yet another quirky sports romance novel within the Brentwood University world. As always, readers can expect sizzling HOT chemistry, laugh out loud humor, and characters that make their way easily into your hearts. Lincoln and Indie were the perfect duo and I found myself really admiring the friendship they built despite the way they were forced together by their meddling moms. 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗗𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗢𝗠? Because while I haven’t, these mums were AWESOME in every way possible! I truly found them to be an added bonus to the story and honestly, want to see them again! Perhaps a little pre-Lincoln romance book told from his moms POV’s? 😉 I WISH! While I was obviously invested and Lincoln and Indie’s story, these two really stole the show for me! Don’t you love when secondary characters become favorites of yours?
That being said, I always find myself loving Meghan’s books because I vibe with her writing style and the way she builds her characters. There were certainly moments where I wanted to intervene in their relationship just like the meddling mothers, but I could see WHY their love story was so imperfect. Meghan writes stories where her characters dreams can and DO come true, and while their lack of awareness for their significant others is somewhat baffling, it goes to show you that sometimes sacrifices DO need to happen for a successful future. This is shown time and again in her novels and I really adore it so much.

As always, readers can expect sizzling HOT chemistry, laugh out loud humor, and characters that make their way easily into your hearts. Lincoln and Indie were the perfect duo and I found myself really admiring the friendship they built despite the way they were forced together by their meddling moms. 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗗𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗢𝗠? Because while I haven’t, these mums were AWESOME in every way possible! I truly found them to be an added bonus to the story and honestly, want to see them again! Perhaps a little pre-Lincoln romance book told from his moms POV’s? 😉 I WISH! While I was obviously invested and Lincoln and Indie’s story, these two really stole the show for me! Don’t you love when secondary characters become favorites of yours?

My heart. My poor heart. Where the hell did this story come from because I want more! Seriously. The Set Up was perfect in so many ways. This book seriously pulled at my heartstrings and I did not see it coming. And I freaking LOVED it! Lincoln and Indie may have just bumped Knox and Emory out of the spot as my top baseball couple in this series. They gave me ALL of the feels and broke my heart in the absolute best way. I was totally invested in their story from the get go.
This book is pure magic. Lincoln and Indie, I honestly adored them both. Lincoln has to be one of the best heroes Meghan has ever created, and I don't say that lightly. He's handsome, funny, smart, loyal, supportive, and quite honestly? He is 100% incredible and he is seriously the sweetest guy. And Indie, so complex, and I absolutely loved her. She’s sassy, passionate, she gave as good as she got and I love that she fought for what she wanted. She was fiercely independent, yet she truly has a heart of gold. Admittedly, I did get a little frustrated with her at times, but I could understand why she behaved the way she did. I think that was the beauty of her and the journey that she took to find herself, it really felt like I was on that journey right along beside her. The chemistry between the two of them was off the charts, the emotion that bled between them just poured from the pages and their connection was everything. It was so clear that they were meant to be together.
Meghan Quinn has once again taken a hero and heroine and made me fall completely in love with them. She took a friends to lovers romance and made it something utterly special. It wasn’t your average college romance. It is an epic love story that involved trust, loyalty, honesty, commitment and love. The only thing that threw me and saddened me slightly was the twist surrounding Indie towards the end, but I’m not letting that take away the sheer brilliance of this book.
I absolutely loved being back at Brentwood college. I have an endless love for these characters, sports, and school. I cannot get enough of it. Meghan Quinn has captured my heart and soul with this book and I sincerely hope Meghan will continue to give us hilarious new adult romances from this world. That said, with the fabulous new side characters that were introduced in this book, it seems very likely! There are definitely some characters from this book who's stories need to be told. There’s absolutely nothing better than a book that makes you laugh, cry and leaves you thinking about the characters long after you have closed the book. The Setup was an absolute delight to read and is right up there as one of my top 2020 reads.

The first half was what I expected and I was moving right along with the characters as their story was told -- but uh oh! A fly ball found its way into centerfield and the second half hit a weird bump rounding the bases, mixed with a funky year by year six-year delay in the game that might as well have been a game ending rain-out. A total strike-out and one I didn't recover from even though the couple ended with a HEA homerun.

Honestly this is my least favorite book of this series, I did not enjoy this book at all about 70 percent I skipped to the last chapter, not because I wanted to know the end but because nothing happened in the story and I felt that they were Knox and Emory 2.0 with some variations, It did not feel original, even the way they meet again and reconcile is practically the same 🤷♀️, and the separation time ahhh first book wowww that's new, second mmmm again but it works, third time ehhh really nop no funny anymore 🤪.
I really don't like Indie and the last chapter aghhh "you weren't there when I needed you most" really when you said jump Lincoln asked How High, at that point and honestly most of the book wasn't rooting for them, and again that final chapter make me mad and it felt rushed and superficial, even the epilogue was the same, and I think that part of the story deserved more. 🤷♀️
So as I said this book is my least favorite of the series, I still love Meghan Quinn, but this book just didn't work for me and I hope the nex baseball boy hooks me on this series again. ⚾⚾

Do I ALWAYS have high expectations? YES
The Setup by Meghan Quinn is a must read. It’s HILARIOUS, heartwarming, sexy and sweet.. the list is endless people!
The characters are absolutely wonderful. Indie is bossy, demanding, and competitive. She is the perfect girl for MY Lincoln… yes, I’ve claimed him. Lincoln is *sigh* This hero is *chef’s kiss* He is hardworking, loyal, so supportive and I freaking LOVE this character.
Indie and Lincoln’s love story is what sports romance, “friends” to lovers, angsty dreams are made of. Did I mention that it’s really romantic too? *bliss*
I am well aware that there are those that don’t enjoy angsty romance but have no fear! This book won’t let you down. Even though the main characters are terrific…Meghan Quinn delivers amazing secondary character. Lincoln’s moms are HILARIOUS!!!!!!!

The heroine: Indie Mayhem - she is on the woman’s soccer team at Brentwood University. Though she is no virgin, she has been solely focused on her sport and her studies. So, when she is home for the summer, her mother who owns a beauty salon keeps fixing her up, trying to get her to fall in love.
The Hero: Lincoln Castle - he is the star baseball player at Brentwood University. He is tall, muscular and does well with the girls. Though his mom thinks he needs help in that department, so while he is home for the summer, she spends all her time meddling in his life and hooking him up on blind dates.
The Story: It’s the last weekend of summer and both Indie and Lincoln’s mothers have worked out a perfect setup to get their kids together. Each of them tells their kid that they want one last night out at one of those places that serves food and has a whole bunch of arcade games. They meet up and the two women tell Indie and Lincoln that they need to chat about something, so the two of them should go play some of the games. Surprisingly enough, Lincoln and Indie have a good time together. When they find themselves in the same class together when school starts, they end up working together.
Meghan Quinn does sports romance like nobody’s business. I really liked both of the characters in this book, especially because they are both genuine and nice people, even though they are two of the beautiful people on campus. The story was great as well, since both of them want to focus on their sports and neither think they will have time for a relationship of any kind, but they are attracted to each other so they can’t keep their minds off each other.
I love the fact that the two main characters get to know each other as friends before anything happens between them. Though I have to admit I got a little bored during the story and even fell asleep for a while while listening, which I rarely do. I think it was more tiredness and my mood than the story though I can’t be certain.
This audiobook was in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Connor Crais and Kelsey Navarro Foster. Connor Crais is one of my favorite male narrators. He sounds very natural and has a deep, soft, sexy voice, but I have to admit that his voice for female characters bothers me, so he is much better suited to duet narration. Kelsey Navarro Foster also sounds natural, like a voice actor more than a narrator, though there is this kind of whiny quality to her voice I don’t always love.

This was one of the most frustrating books I've ever read.
It started okay, it was funny, I liked the banter between the characters, but than I got to the end and I almost dnf.
I have problem with this author books cause she did the whole 5years or 8 years later in the prevous books and I hated it here. Didnt like Indie at all, she was stupid, selfish,a true hypocrite who didn't want a relationship but goes and gets pregnant and than engaged to a different guy, where is the logic in that????
How can you even love someone but have sex with different OW and OM, they rarely saw each other in that period, they didnt even talk on the phone for months and years. That ending was so abrupt and not even realistic at all.
I usually like her books but this one was just awful.

This one is a great book. Lincoln has two moms, Mom and Mama. His moms are funny. His Mom has been on a mission to set him up over the summer. The last girl she sets him up with is Indie. Indie's mom has been setting her up throughout the summer too. They both go to the same college. Indie doesn't like Lincoln at first but the definitely have a connection. Indie plays soccer and Lincoln plays baseball. These two are cute together. They are both down to earth characters and they have fun banter. Indie isn't looking for a relationship. They form a friendship and then more. I was so rooting for them. Then there a point in the book where they are apart and time goes by and it was a little emotional because you just know these to belong together.

You know a story is going to tick off all your boxes when reading the blurb, you just can’t help but laugh for minutes at a time. I mean … amirite?! The Setup delivered for me in spades! I’m reading over my reading notes right now and just laughing like a lunatic! Meghan is seriously talented with the romantic comedy shenanigans! She does such a good job of blending both the serious and the humorous that you barely realize hours have past and suddenly, you’re done reading. I haven’t read every word she has ever published, but my experience with her writing has been near perfection. She takes me to a place that is enjoyable, relatable, and realistic; sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes so full emotion my heart could burst; always such a perfect blend!
Indie and Lincoln couldn’t have been more realistic if they were real people. Their approach to life was written perfectly and I love every choice Meghan made for them. Their journey unfolded with great pacing and I just enjoyed the heck out of this book!

Indie and Lincoln couldn’t have been more realistic if they were real people. Their approach to life was written perfectly and I love every choice Meghan made for them. Their journey unfolded with great pacing and I just enjoyed the heck out of this book!

Well, I think this may be my new favorite in the Brentwood series! The Setup was the perfect friends to lovers sports romance. Indie and Lincoln are set up by their meddling mothers while they’re home on summer break. They both are athletes at the same school: him in baseball, her in soccer. A lot of the story did focus in on their training and school. Indie is a strong willed, driven, tough woman. She doesn’t let her attention move much from soccer. Lincoln is the ultimate gentleman: thoughtful, kind, giving; brought up by a lesbian couple (who are so wonderful and led to some really hilarious moments)! They start as friends and gradually move into more. A huge part of the novel is their friendship and that slow burn buildup. The characters were incredible and all the secondary characters brought so much fun to the book. The storyline and pace kept my interest and when I had to take breaks for real life, I kept thinking about the book until I could return to it. The only thing I wanted more of was the epilogue, but that’s just me selfishly wanting more Indie and Lincoln in the future. We did get introduced to more Brentwood sports players, so perhaps we will see these characters again. Loved this one so much! This is one of my favorite friends to lovers and my new favorite in the Brentwood series! Highly recommend the entire series!

I Floved This Book! Just absolutely loved it. From the main characters to the secondaries which there were a few. Indie and Lincoln are juniors in College and both have meddling moms who think that they would make the cutest couple and try their hardest to achieve that. This is not just a college romance, it is an epic love story that involves trust, loyalty, honestly, commitment and love.
Indie is quick witted, smart and a great athlete. She is on the women's soccer team at Brentwood and has moves that Lincoln has noticed. Linc is the pitcher on the baseball team and is set to leave college before senior year as a first draft pick and head off to the minors. They have an incredible year together that forms a bond that will be hard to break. I adored Lincoln, just loved him. He was so attentive and supportive of Indie and her achievements, just as much she was for him. He was talented in many areas but his greatest attribute was his devotion to his boys, his moms and especially Indie. The banter between them was funny and had me giggling out loud along with them. I am not an ugly crier with books, but I came damn close with this one, on a few occasions. Their love story was one that I felt was organic and dealt with Indies baggage in a natural way, instead of rushing them to their HEA. But when they finally got there, I did have a sigh of relief that she understood what her emotions and deep feelings meant. I knew all along that Lincoln loved Indie, even if he wasn't aware of it from day one, but he was quicker than Indie realising what they had together.
Another thing that I loved, was we got a cameo from Maddox Paige, and it help set the time frame between the books. I want to go back to these secondary characters for just a bit, as many of them are going to be in standalone books coming up. I am desperate to know what is happening with Asher and his yellow dress gal. Of course the same goes for Scarlett and Hutton. Then there is Hartley and Alice, there is definitely more to that story I need to know. I am ready to go back to Brentwood, and witness the next amazing couple.

Meghan Quinn writes another homerun with The Setup (pun intended).
I loved this story and the characters so much. I loved watching Indie and Lincoln go through their trials and tribulations of college then onto furthering their sports careers.
Indie and Lincoln are some of the most levelheaded yet, at times quite frustrating characters I've read in a while. Lol But that's what made me love them; they have so many authentic and genuine character attributes, it's impossible to not love them.
Meghan does a great job of blending the second characters into this story without any of those scenes or characters overtaking the story line. It just brings more depth to the story and allows you to see the characters in other aspects.
The Setup flows perfectly and Meghan allows things to happen naturally. The timeline in this book works so well and Meghan writes it beautifully. She blends the humor, sports and romance aspects of this book perfectly. Oh and the moms, love them so much. ❤
