Home By Seven: One woman's solo journey to ride all seven continents on two wheels

Rate this book
One woman’s solo journey to ride all seven continents on two wheels Welsh girl Steph Jeavons ran away to see the world. She wanted to see the sunset from every angle. She wanted to see an orangutan and a baobab tree. She wanted to become the first person to circumnavigate the globe and ride a motorcycle on all seven continents - and to sing karaoke on the way. Steph’s cravings for escapism manifest themselves in many ways throughout her life. The book begins in her late teens where she finds herself in prison by the age of twenty. She knows there is a whole world beyond that razor wire just calling out to be explored. Twenty years later, and armed only with a stern tone of voice she reserves for naughty dogs, drunk Turks, Iranian taxi drivers, semi-conscious British soldiers and Saudi truckers, she rides her trusty steed Rhonda the Honda solo around the world, to the highest, driest, wettest, hottest and coldest corners of the earth. This is a powerful and honest memoir written from the perspective of a liberated single woman taking on the world with a dogged determination to complete her mission at all costs. Home by Seven is told with honesty and wit and from a unique perspective.

This is a wonderful book that takes the reader on a journey across all seven continents on a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs highs and lows. Sometimes humourous, sometimes tear jerking, this book has it all. I would highly recommend that you sit back, relax and join Steph for the ride of your life and join in the fulfillment of her dream.

Such an inspiring book, I love Steph's honesty and I love that she writes about the really hard times as well, and doesn't gloss. Her journey sounds amazing and has 100% inspired me, my only criticism of this book is that the writing style/voice is a little inconsistent, and I think this could have been easily fixed with a really thorough edit. I guess this is just a side effect of basing a book off of four years travel and blog posts maybe?

I still read it absolutely compulsively in about 3 days and want to be Steph when I grow up though, so she did something right 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are those who do, and those who like to sit in an armchair with a cup of cocoa reading about their exploits. This book will be inspiring for the former, and satisfyingly thrilling for the latter.

Steph has revealed herself to be one of those rare gems of this genre; not just a tourist who decided to write about it afterwards, but a superb writer with a fascinating travel story to tell. The result is this rewarding , fast paced, extremely well-written book that is a delight from start to finish.

Have your cocoa ready, because you won't want to put it down to make some.

If you’ve been anywhere near an adventure motorbike in the last decade you’ve almost certainly heard of Steph Jeavons and this amazing journey. The book is a fantastically engaging and painfully honest account of her trip and the events leading up to it. Loads of laughs and more than a few ‘heart in the mouth’ moments that make it a real page turner. Would happily recommend to anyone with even a hint of wanderlust.

Book Review - My opinion (now if someone wants to pay me for doing these,,,,,, free books, sponsors etc) well anyway. Just to set the scene, Steph
sent me this book last year, ( I bought it before it was printed) and I did a quick review on the usual online sites. BUT that review a bit slap dash, so I re read the book. so the reason it has took sometime. This is a bloody good story, you get to feel Steph's journey from her past to the present. Its funny in parts, sad in others, but it is honest. You read about..... what happens in Antartica stays in Antartica, and how Army officers are so bull headed. The mishaps, the injuries. how to not pay for fuel or fixing your wheels. So yes this is a bloody good story. now for the second BUT, I have noticed a common theme in books written about 2 and sometimes 3 wheeled journeys, RTW, up and down Africa, America, around Europe, the ending of the journey is nearly always shite, it seems quickly written or hurried, sometimes what would or could be fitted in a separate book, is done in a few pages, so I personally feel somewhat cheated. The third BUT, again sometimes a common theme, Steph
the book is not long enough!!!!!!!!!!! now if you have not got this book on your book case, on your kindle, or audio (Steph
is working on this I believe) get your fingers clicking on your favourite way to buy books, get your hands in your pockets, get the plastic out and buy this book.

If you don’t want to read someone’s travel journal, this is not the book for you. That being said, there are some interesting stories in here about traveling and what it means to be nomadic versus having a home, and what Steph accomplished is truly impressive.

Fabulous read. Deeply inspiring.

Very much enjoyed this. Particularly so because I’ve just returned to biking after 30 years. My spirit of adventure lives on, fed by accounts like one - although not all are as well written and engaging as this book.

Recently also finished Elspeth Beard and Chris Donaldsons books which were very similar but occurred in the late 70s/ early 80s. The difference that mobile tech and social media has made is enormous

That isnt to take anything away from Stephs massive achievement but it makes for a very different adventure

What hasn’t changed is the misogyny, unwanted sexual attention and sheer bureaucracy that riders encounter

Its an excellent and inspiring read and I remain in awe of anyone who takes these journeys as I sit reading them in the comfort of the 8.25 to Waterloo

The girl has pluck and's not apt to shy from the challenge. Enjoyable and inspiring. I appreciate the candour in her memoir.
I'm as happy as the next person to take on the challenge of a glass of wine. Young ladies, like me, inspired by Steph, might want to consider the consequences of one too many whilst globe-trotting when alone!
