Diverted Traffic
Diverted Traffic tells the story of Suman, a nine-year-old girl who is stolen from her village in India, trafficked and taken to work in the sex industry in Amsterdam. In one of the city nightclubs, she encounters Ellie Douglas, an anti-counterfeit officer with a Scotch whisky company investigating an outbreak of alcohol poisoning. Following the murder of her colleague, Ellie attempts to rescue Suman and so begins a race against time to get her to safety.
Avril Duncan’s newly published novel - Diverted Traffic - shines a much-needed light on the continuing international scandal of human trafficking and sexual slavery. Drawing on her experience as a founder member of The Free to Live Trust, a charity working to rescue victims of human trafficking and to raise awareness of modern slavery, Avril has produced a ‘must-read thriller with a distinctive Scottish voice’ that takes the reader from Edinburgh, to Amsterdam, and Maharashtra. (Avril has been visiting Pune, Maharashtra in India regularly since 2003 to work with street children and vulnerable young people, and to help free and rehabilitate victims themselves out of sexual slavery.)

Have just finished reading “Diverted Traffic”.
Avril has a wonderful way of taking the reader all the way with you from page one to the end.
The likes of Ian Rankin, Geoffrey Archer, Wilbur Smith and James Patterson I have “read” over the years, very often I can “scan read.” Not so with Avril's writing as every word is so carefully and purposefully written.
When one takes into account that this is “real life” it makes her research and translation into a book so important.
The “story” and the causes she supports to “help” these young people in this day and age is one that we must all relate to others.
Having finished reading the book i said to my wife that “Diverted Traffic” would make an exciting and revealing TV series or a film. Just imagine what the “royalties” would do for the Charity?
Hoping that there will be “other novels” in due course?

Gripped from beginning. Avril is a marvellous storyteller. Plenty of background information to help with the exciting and often dreadful experiences these trafficked children endure. The more people who read this book,the more knowledgeable they will become in helping to stamp out this awful trade. Well worth reading.

A beautifully written book that deals with a very difficult subject. The pacing of this thriller is spot on and you are drawn into the story from the first page. The only reason that it took me so long to read was that the subject matter was so intense, that I had to keep taking breaks. Highly recommended.

Brilliant Book. Great story. Well written and covering a topic which is happening every day in all parts of the world. The book has action and a romantic side and keeps the reader wondering what is going to happen next. Good subject for a television adaptation and can’t wait for the sequel.

Compelling reading from start to finish! However a real eye opener into child trafficking, and I felt quite emotional knowing all about your charity work in India and that although fictional it is so real
