An ancient jar. A mystical map. An unexpected journey.
Living in the heart of the Caribbean, life was good for Oliver. How could it not be when he spent his days diving in the crystal blue waters? But when Oliver discovers an ancient jar on the ocean floor, everything changes.
Containing a mystical map to unknown treasure, or so Oliver believes, the jar consumes his every thought. Soon he finds himself doing things he would never do. Going places he’d never go. And abandoning those he swore he’d never leave behind.
If Oliver follows the trail to the bitter end, he may just find out that some things are better left undiscovered.

This is probably one of the better Novellas I've read, it was interesting to find out about Kais brother Oliver. Plus it also showed that not everyone can survive a Sirens attack which is more plausible in the grand scheme. Despite me routing for Oliver that he would be okay, but I still want to know what exactly was in that jar and why it hadn't affected Kai!

This book starts off drawing you in with adventure and doesn't stop. It is a short read and gives a great start to the Call of the Sirens series. I highly recommend this book for tweens and up. It is always great to find a book my girls can also read. We love reading and then talking about the books to see who liked what best. Check out all of KB Bensons books. You won't be disappointed!!
My jaw is literally unhinged when I got near the ending, but wow, this was such a good, short read! This novella was so engaging and had my heart racing the further I got into it, and I think K.B. Benson did an amazing job with the descriptions and details in this story! If you love The Twilight Zone series and anything by Agatha Christie, definitely check out this novella!
A prequel novella that will keep you on your toes! Benson is an amazing storyteller. I felt like I was swimming alongside Oliver and Callie as they tested their diving limits more and more with each step towards understanding the mystery of what the jar contained. I definitely want to read the trilogy now.
K B Benson yet again sucks you into a unique story that is hard to put down. I never knew a novella could be so exciting! With sharks, treasure, love, betrayal, and mythology creating an adventure that is so fun yet also heartbreaking. Truly loved every second of this book!
Oliver is a diver. And during a dive, he finds a jar. This jar calls to him. He loses days looking at it. It shows him a map, which he follows. He finds treasure, but he also finds something much more sinister too. And he drags his love along with him.
I kept wanting to compare this to the series not having read it. Which kind of made it more interesting. It unfolded wonderfully and is a great start to intrique you to read the rest. Loved it.
I haven't read the trilogy, but I really liked this novella. The ending was a tad too scary for my personal taste, but the writing style was so captivating!!
This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The story had a really strong atmosphere and some great thriller moments that kept me guessing, especially toward the end. It definitely picked up in intensity, which I liked.
That said, the pacing was a bit slow in parts, and I actually found myself feeling anxious for it to be over—not because it was bad, but because it dragged a little and made me feel unsettled in a way I’m not sure was intentional. Still, it had some solid twists and a good emotional undercurrent.
Overall, not a bad read—just not quite the perfect fit for me.
This story was sooo tragic, but yet I was glued to it from the first page! It was also interesting learning more about things linked to the trilogy, but I don't want to say anything to give things away. But this novella is definitely worth a read!! If you're a fan of the series, I more than recommend it. Or if you're curious if you would like The Call of The Sirens trilogy, read this, and then you will be hooked!!
