Primordial Earth is a gripping time-traveling, sci-fi thriller for fans of action-packed, character-driven, post-apocalyptic tales.
South African writer and coffee addict, Baileigh Higgins, lives in the Free State with hubby and best friend Brendan and loves nothing more than lazing on the couch with pizza and a bad horror movie. What I liked -Concept. The idea behind this series was definitely something I've never read before. I just finished another dinosaur story and it inspired me to look for more. The idea of dinosaurs and people clashing in a natural setting works so well if done right, and it kept me hooked. -Dinosaurs. The author clearly did research on many different types of dinosaurs, and I love getting to read about their descriptions and habits. The world has been vividly painted with some of the best writing of the book dedicated to the description of the creatures and world, but the rest of the writing is weaker.
What I disliked -Rogue. The MC is actually insufferably stupid. She only survives situations because of plot armor and the fact that there would be no story without her. Multiple times she finds herself in situations that people warned her about, but she never heeds their advice and gets hurt or captured or does something stupid and illogical. All to progress the plot. -Length. This obviously started out as a serial, with people probably paying $2.99 for each tiny installment until there was enough to mash together into a series. Each book is less than 200 pages long, and I hate books that are split so short just to make more of them. Many of the events of each book bleed into the next and could have clearly been made into one.
Overall, it was an interesting book, and I've continued the series so far up until book four, but this series is far too long for the amount of plot given. Not sure how far I'll read. It's a quick, easy read to plow through though. 3.0
A fight for survival of 21st-century humans during the times of dinosaurs.
Scientist doing things they know they had no control over and should’ve been wary of. Once again have broken the world. And experiment gone wrong. Parts of cities around the world disappear. Come to find out those chunks of the world that have gone missing have been transported through time back in to the times of dinosaurs. Follow one story of a group of survivors fighting for survival. Not only are they back long before any modern conveniences of the past couple thousand years. They’ve gone back millions of years. They must survive on their wits and one small amount of supplies or shifted back with them. You have the dinosaurs trying to kill you and then you have people who were just out right evil and greedy that are going to stand on everyone else to get what they want. Rogue and her group of rebel friends are tired of the elites getting everything and only the crumbs go to the masses. Follow her adventures as she’s expelled from prime city and miss survive in the wild of a world lost in time. She finds a group of other survivors and even more adventure in Sue’s. Read on and find out what happens. An extraordinarily entertaining and fascinating story with an awesome cast of characters you will learn to love and some you will learn to hate. By the way don’t get attached to anyone too much as there are dinosaurs running around eating people.
.....So, we are back in this strange Dystopian/Dinosaur future/past with our hero Rogue - who's just be reunited with her Mother -- What were the odds of that? I mean, she gets kicked out of the City and the second human she comes across happens to be her Mother...
This new place where her Mother lives is a thriving community called the Zoo and they have this yearly ritual where they go out and steal eggs from Dino nests - I dont know about you, but nothing gets my heart racing more than stealing eggs from a T-Rex... you can imagine how this is going to end.. Dino action!
The pace of the first book was great, it was fast but didnt seem rushed where as this one feels too fast paced that it kind of spoilt it for me. Situations of peril are presented to us and just as your getting into them, they are resolved and you feel a little cheated...
BUT, worst of all was the way the author ends each and every line of dialogue. 'he said' 'she said' 'he remarked' 'she added' 'he said' 'she said' this happens even when there are just two people in the conversation and its obvious who is talking - it becomes quite annoying.
Overall, it was an OK addition to the story but like I said, it felt so rushed...
I'm enjoying this series more than I thought I would. Essentially, some sort of time experiments sent part of Earth's population back 70 million years to the Cretaceous. This series focuses on Portland (I thought Oregon but I've seen reviews that suggest Maine, so I'm not sure which Portland we're talking about) and is mostly told through the eyes of Rogue (born Lillian), a twenty-five-year-old young woman. While the previous book was more a survival story, this is much more political. Rogue and new friend Seth have arrived at the Zoo and reunited with Rogue's mom, but the residents of the Zoo hate Primes (residents of the corrupt and tyrannical Prime City ruled by Senator Douglas and General Sikes). Thus, Rogue and Seth face major opposition while also falling in love. This is still a book with dinosaurs, and there are bits of dinosaur action, but the dinosaurs take a back seat to the characters and inter-personal drama. A good second book in what's shaping up to be an enjoyable dystopian/survival series with dinosaurs.
Primordial Earth: Book 2 The Extinction #2 Sci-Fi, Thriller Baileigh Higgins ⭐️⭐️.5
There was a lot of "story telling" done by the FMC to other characters. I understand that when certain characters were separated, they all needed to find out what happened during that time, but to me it just felt like the author was trying to fill out the pages with these recaps because they didn't help the plot in any way.
I liked the characters fornthebmost part but the relationship between Seth and Rogue seemed a little forced and grew too quickly for me.
There was a plot twist regarding who betrayed the rebels but it wasn't surprising and the character had alread half admitted it before hand.
This book had so much potential but it just didn't deliver for me, which is a shame. At this point I'm not sure if I'd continue with the other books (this series has 9 in total) because they feel like they could easily be condensed.
This is a very different type of series in that the Earth has been divided into two realities, one which is like ours and one in which the people have been taken back to the prehistoric period of dinosaurs. What it makes it worse is that the second reality is ruled by a tyrant who is rather nasty to say the least.
Rogue is a young woman who is stuck in that reality. She has to avoid being eaten, avoid being killed by an assassin and at the same time make contact with other humans who could, just maybe, band together to overthrow the tyrant.
It's a very cruel world, both with the dinosaurs and the thuggish tyrant. There's a lot of ways to die so just staying alive will be a major problem much less than finding a way to deal with the nasty people and maybe, possibly, find a way back to the reality her mother is in.
I think the series is unusual enough to make it worth reading.
2.5⭐️ the story is interesting and I do find myself wanting to know what happens next. It just feels childish sometimes (childish feels too harsh but I can’t think of a better word right not). The idea that you’d instantly call your mother “mum” and tell her you love her after not seeing her for nearly enough your entire life and when you were separated you were so young you’d barely know her, just feels ???????? wrong. Same with the relationship that’s developed between Seth and Rogue - they barely know each other yet theyre acting this way towards each other. I feel like it would make more sense if it took more time for them to get to that stage.
But it’s not a bad book, interesting storyline and I will continue the series!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This second book in the series is every bit as the first! Baileigh Higgins shows her talent and not a zombie in sight. Instead there are dinosaurs and bad guys and Rogue, who has had a tough life growing up on the streets. Then there’s two town/cities. One is controlled by keeping the people hungry and scared. The other works by everyone pulling together. Rogue wants the latter, The Zoo, to free the people of Prime from tyranny. I can’t do this series justice enough. It’s an excellent piece of fiction written by one of the best apocalypse authors today!
The story from book 1 continues in this, I felt like I had only gotten part of a book broken into three parts and this book kind of confirms that. We do learn more about the world where a certain percentage of the world was torn through time into the time of dinosaurs and some dino's were brought into the present. The people we see are all sent back in time rather than people who live in now but with dinosaurs. Much of this book sees our protagonist kidnapped and on the trail back to prime against her will. The rescue was pretty quick and then the book was over or I should say part two of the book was over the rest of the book will hopefully be in #3
Think of Jurassic Park on steroids and you have the setting for this book. The writing is as always great and the main character is the one we get to know first. She is Rogue and from the Prime City where the rich are rich and the poor very poor. Rouge ends up in wild prehistoric apocalypse where everything wants to eat you. This is the start of a great new series and this book will set you up for the rest. You can not imagine what life is like outside the Prime city where humans are at the bottom of the food chain. This is truly an original take on the Apocalypse.
I liked the characters and I like the storyline. Could do with more dino action, but not a bad series. The first book set the stage and made me anticipate the next one...and I was not disappointed. Looking forward to the 3rd book due out in Nov. The lack of profanity is refreshing. Would give it 6 stars if I could. Definitely recommend this series. Read the first book so you won't jump into the middles of the story or you won't know who Bones is and his relationship to Rogue, or lack of.
Are separate factions a condition of human society? Given the chance to start building a new society within a terribly hostile environment would we pull together to survive, helping each other? Or would the powerful few seek only their own safety and comfort?
The two separate groups of people who survived the time shift in Portland, have developed two completely different societies. Prime, the walled city, sees most of its inhabitants existing in debasing poverty while the few at the top live in luxury. Rogue was exiled when she stole an egg after days without food.
Rogue found her way to the other compound of people in the erstwhile zoo. This group survives well through the cooperation of its people. Life may not be easy but it is definitely filled with more abundance for everyone.
Unfortunately, Rogue was kidnapped and taken back to Prime. Will she be able to win her freedom to live as she chooses? Or will Prime make her pay the ultimate price?
2nd book in series. Large 'city sized' scale time reversal near Portland, Washington back to the time of dinosaurs. From the perspective of a 5 year old girl who grows up. The series of 10 books was purchased by me on September 12, 2023, from Amazon for $0.99 plus 0.07 tax. Reminds me of 'Island in the Sea of Time', (ISOT) is the first of the three alternate history novels of the Nantucket series by S. M. Stirling, but they only go back for a few thousand years. It was released in the United States and Canada on February 1, 1998.
Another enjoyable instalment of this series (I have the box set). Rogue, Seth and many others battle against dinosaurs and injustice in a world gone awry because of idiot scientists and politicians.
I liked the fast pace and the way the characters suit the plot. It's intriguing how the two worlds merged and, I wonder, what has really happened to those on the other side of the Shift.
There were grammatical errors but overall, the writing style was good.
Baileigh Higgins continues to impress me with her writing. I was unable to put the book down once I started it. She knows how to suck you into the story and hold your attention until the last page. The continuing story of Prime and the Zoo , with Rogue at the center of all the drama . I cannot wait for the next book ..
Book 2 picks up right where we left off in book one. Rogue’s attempt to fit in, her budding relationship with her mother, Seth, eggs (of all things), gorings, kidnapping...you must read this chapter of Baileigh’s tale. I am looking forward to reading the conclusion when it comes out.
This series just keeps getting better and better 😃. Intense situations abound, angry crazy teenagers, characters that have hated for decades and dinosaurs are chasing Everybody 😖. Thanks again Baileigh, I've fallen in LOVE with this series, you write an amazing story that I look forward to reading more of 🤓.
I am enjoying this series, but 2 was actually much better than book one for me. I like the character of rogue, for a female she’s not too stupid. I like the character of Seth, I hope we’ll hear more about his history and background . I liked all the characters in the Rebel Faction. And of course Dino action is always exciting .
Could had have more dinos! Still good and we got to see some new characters and a different way of living, however i missed the surviving aspect of the first book. Its a good sequel but once again Bones seems badly written, the way he just has all the resources to survive seems too convenient. Overall a fun book
A very exciting read! I could not wait for the second book to come out as this has a different premise for an apocalyptic event. Eagerly awaiting book 3 and hope there are many more after!
Rogue's adventures in this primordial world continue. After she finds her mother and rescue at the Zoo it becomes evident that the biggest threat to her and her friends aren't the dinosaurs but other humans. Just like in the real world....
I love Baileigh Higgins's writing! Book two of the primordial Earth series continues Rogue's journey,to free the people of Prime but she has many difficulties to overcome. Another fascinating story.
Really great story! Love it Can't wait for the 3rd book !
I really enjoyed this book slot ! The storyline is great, and I haven't read too many books about Dinosaurs ! But this one is absolutely believable, exciting, and action packed ! Highly recommend!!
2nd installment in the series and just as good as the first. More development. More action. Will Rogue be able to join her 2 worlds? I received a free ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review .
Once started very hard to put down. The character development is going strong as well as the story line. Distrust and animosity runs wild. The survival instinct comes to the fore and the characters do it well. A great adventure which is highly recommended
I'm hooked on this wonderful series. We have 2 societies. Prime ruled by a ruthless leader and Zoo that seems a safe haven . Great characters must also survive against dinosaurs that roam around. A very exciting read.
So far so good. Still, the author could have done more research for that story. If there was a giant EMP, how do the solar panels and the solar gadgets could work? But, despite that, a good story, anyway.
Second book in and I feel like it’s just skimming the story, it’s not providing enough details. I’m continuing to read the series nevertheless, hoping it will deepen the explanation of what exactly is going on.
I enjoyed this book. The setting sets this book apart from so many others in post-apocalyptic fiction. The plot is terrific and the characters are well-developed. I’m on book 3 now, and plan to read the successive installments.
