I went DOUBLE DEEP™️
I’m writing one review for deep one and two. I will refer to them as climb and embers.

Truthfully climb needed a few more passes on proof reading. Luckily the story is quite good and has a few unexpected turns!

Embers is a marked improvement in, well... everything. Amazing growth in character development and in editing and overall writing. Jade definitely adds an important element and I LOVED HER and DAISY doing all the normal things Daisy never got to growing up!

I think it’s wholly fair to take climb and embers as a whole and to rate the series as a 4-4.5 rounding up to 5.

I love giving 5s as writing a book is a monumental feat and deserves being celebrated.

Having CJ’s anecdotes on the writing community Show is helpful too he’s been transparent about his editing and what he’s doing now over what he did with book one.
He’s a very helpful and passionate member of the indie book community and gave much of his royalties to charity in a time of crisis and that too, is to be celebrated!

This book will give you whiplash in the best possible way.

I had adulting I was supposed to do, but instead, I sat down and binge-read this book. The dishes aren’t washed. The bills aren’t paid. The floors aren’t cleaned. But once I started, NOTHING COULD STOP ME!

DEEP: THE EMBERS OF LIFE is a breathtaking addition to an unputdownable series. We find our main character, Daisy, at a pivotal, coming-of-age point in her life. She gains agency in this book, takes control of her fate, and becomes someone not to be messed with.

Aggett has a gift for action sequences and striking, carnal descriptions. This sequel has a survivalist vibe bracketed with brief pockets of normalcy, around which all hell breaks loose again and again and again. It reminded me of a more mature version of the novel HATCHET by Gary Paulsen. Fans of The Walking Dead, World War Z, Stranger Things, and Revolution will feast on this gritty, gutsy adventure.

I LOVED this quote: “Those who fight monsters inevitably become one.”

The next step in Daisy’s adventure

The second instalment in the Deep series brings the threads of book 1 together and reveals the next step in Daisy’s development as an adult who makes her own decisions. With the pace that is characteristic of Aggett’s writing this book hurtles along at breathtaking pace. We follow Daisy through the trials and tribulations of another adventure dealing with the realities of life in the modern world and the sinister organisation that has plagued her existence. Some great character development in here gives us a lot of insight into Daisy’s worldview and there are some lovely touches throughout but the undertone of ever approaching menace keeps things on their edge of their seat! Great fun!

CJ has an amazing way of telling his stories. I was gripped by the first few sentences. I love a good book that has a great heroine and Daisy fits that. No spoilers here, but I might be sitting on a beach sipping cocktails with Paige, Jade, and Daisy! Well done! I loved this book!

OK – just when you thought it was safe for Daisy – here comes a sequel that ups the ante in terms of danger, action and erm, sexy times for the DEEP heroine…

DEEP: The Embers of Life is a kick-ass follow up that takes the excellent end of everything action of the first book and builds a convincing and exciting second adventure. How will Daisy survive when she doesn’t know who she can trust and a time of tranquil existence comes to a violent end as the enemies of the near past catch up with her.

Aggett has navigated the tricky second novel like a boss. The DEEP franchise comes out for a second round with a rounder story and a change of pace and yet by the time you get to the end you’ll be rooting for Daisy to get a shot at a happy ending.

With some great new characters, lots of dark secrets and the dastardly ARCS back for more – DEEP: The Embers of Life delivers a shocking action punch to the frontal lobe and cements Aggett as an author to watch.

Let’s hope there is more to this book series to come!!

The conclusion of book one felt like the heroine had come to the end of the road. Sort of how the ending of a scary movie that basically lets you know what happens next is terrible and need not be written out because the key plot points had all been revealed. However, I had already gotten book 2 so I knew that there was more that needed to be said...I just had hardly an idea of what it could be.

As I got into this installment, the story got darker and dare I say DEEPer? (ha! no? whatever) The continuation was clearly thought out from well before and carried with it the same sense of suspense and horror as the first rather than feeling like the cash-grab sequel to aforementioned scary movie. So if you loved the first book, you'll love this one. I was impressed with the author's ability to achieve the same heights and beyond as in book one. I was already enamored with Daisy, the main character, so being able to get to know further depths of her plight and origin was amazing.
