We read this as part of a men's small-group Bible study, which is why it took me over a year to get through this. We have used several different books for our group, over the years, and this one was by far the best that we have used. I really enjoyed it. I learned a bit, but the book was perfect for our needs, providing a huge range of topics for us to discuss. It lent itself SO well to our group that I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a similar tool.

Each chapter is broken down into what are intended to be daily readings. The chapters are not long and can easily be read in one sitting, if you prefer to read them that way. There are two authors and each one has specific assignments in terms of the part of the chapter that they cover. I enjoyed both perspectives. There is a bit of humor included, but for the most part, this is serious fare.

The book is largely chronological, with the Old Testament making up the first half, (almost exactly), and the New Testament taking up the rest of the book. Some sections were stronger than others, but overall, this was a truly enjoyable read. I am not sure that these are the 52 greatest stories, because that is a pretty subjective thing. But most of the greatest stories in the Bible are covered here, in one way or another.

Highly recommended for either small groups or for anyone seeking a daily devotional.

I am a new Christian (Jewish by birth and raised without religious education). At church, I've confused King Saul with the Saul who later became Paul. This book has helped understand passages in the old and new testaments (which can be quite overwhelming) to the wonderful stories and people of the bible. Although it's taking me longer to get through the stories than I had hoped, this book has given be a stronger foundation to understand the motives and desires of biblical figures.

I liked the format used in this devotional and liked many of the lessons they extracted from the stories they choose. My lease favorite part of the book was the prayer on Fridays.

It’s ok

This was ok and had some good thoughts. I thought it was very superficial much of the time and also I thought the view of God was limited in the display of His majesty.
