Sometimes shadows can look a bit scary, but if you take a closer look, you will see that they are actually quite silly.
While reading this book, your kiddo will see that shadows aren't always what they seem. What looks to be monsters turn into little silly snakes, smart-looking sharks, and sleeping kittens. This book can be read or even sang with your littles at bedtime. There is even a diagram of how to make shadow puppets is in the back of the book for further exploration and imagination. This is a fun book that brings parents and children together at night with a fun sing-songy tune and some shadow puppets.
What a fantastic book for children. A Wonderful gift for Christmas and birthday presents. Beautiful illustrations and so well written for young children. I also love the story concept as so many children are afraid of shadows at bedtime.
What better than to combat fear with laughter? And Lyndsay Whitlock does just that! The scary shadows lurking at night in the corners and on the walls, outside the window that children see and get scared of, thinking there are monsters or evil witches or something (I remember my own childhood here all too well) are made to look silly and cute. A kitten that has curled up for sleep, a trumpeting elephant or a shark missing some teeth (that was my favourite, I think) all help the child to laugh and giggle and forget to be scared. At the end of the book, there is a page with a short paragraph on author and illustrator each and it says that the book is an adaptation of a song the author sings with her child at bedtime. When my children were little, I used to tell them stories, read books out loud and sing many songs as well. That makes for one happy childhood. What a brilliant idea to turn the song into a book. The illustrator Savana Ellison has created the pictures for the book and they are absolutely gorgeous, cute and - silly! My reactions to them ranged from smiling over smirking to giggling and my youngest daughter who is already 13 years old and usually reads literature that are in her own age range and higher loved the book as well and said she would have liked to have a book that made you overcome your fears so easily with so much fun. I loved to watch her read the book and giggle to herself at it. She said by herself, "Mama, you have to give this 5 stars!" So here I am, awarding a well-deserved 5-star rating for this enchanting, happy, funny, giggly and creative children's book.
A very cute children's bedtime story that introduces those sometimes scary shadows to your little ones. I thought the illustrations were beautifully done, and I love the addition of the shadow instructions at the end where the author and illustrator show you how to do several different shadow animals.
