“Vanici’s always keep your fucking chins up. You make eye contact with only those who matter. Shove your way past anyone bold enough or dumb enough to stand in your way. Bow to no one.”

After finishing the beloved War of Roses Trilogy I couldn’t resist diving into Mice and Men series. We finally learn more about Willow’s past and why a man that goes by Donatello who has such tremendous hold over her.

I devoured this book faster than I thought I would. Ruthless King resembles its title without failure—it's ruthless, dark and twisted, everything you shouldn’t enjoy but undoubtedly will when you read this insane story. I’m going to attempt to leave this review short, because you’ll really want to step into this oblivious and unknowing. Just know that right and wrong are blurred, almost becoming one and the same, with complex characters and a profound, disturbed story-line that will have you intrigued.

Donatello Vanici.
Il Mostro. The butcher. The Violent Cunt. Ex-crime lord trying to change for his past sins and for a better future for his nephew. But things go side ways when his past comes back to haunt him. Willow is not who she claims to be. . . There is history between these two. Bad blood. One that could cause another blood war, and streets will run red.

"Cold, his eyes rake over me. From my scalp, down to my heaving chest. His jaw twitches, his breathing audibly unsteady. Heavy. Rasping."

This book was absolutely bloody brilliant. A dark alluring world that gripped and tore my heart in two. Ruthless King is a tragic yet stunning mind fuck of a read that had me second guessing who could be the mole. Who could you trust? Gah I still cannot get over the ending I'm losing my mind right now......

5+ Stars!!!
Let's just be sure about one thing,
I am really fucked up in the head when it comes to Lana Sky's books and I really don't mind.
I just love reading her books so much! So this Ruthless King was about Willow Stepanov who is the adopted daughter of Mischa and Ellen Stepanov.
War of Series still to this day remains my one of the best reads of 2020 so when I got to know that Willow's story was going to come out, I was so excited to read it and this book didn't let me down one bit.
Willow is love. I love her so fucking much. She has been one of my favourites since War of Roses. Also, Mischa and Ellen. Damn you two! Damn! This book while I read it, my mind forced me, taunted me so much to go and reread War of Roses.
Donatello. Ummm.... I am really not sure what I think about him. I mean I might like him???
I have so many unanswered questions about Donatello. So I am just gonna wait till they are answered to give my final thoughts about him.
I am excited for the next book!!! Can January come sooner? 😣😣😣
Also, Mischa Stepanov! You fucking own me! <3

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: RUTHLESS KING.

GENRE:DARK MAFIA CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR: LANA SKY.
TYPE: BOOK #1 OF THE DUET MICE AND MEN.
POV: DUAL PROSPECTIVE.
MY RATING: 5+++ REVENGE AND REDEMPTION STARS.

This is not my first Rodeo by Lana Sky nor it will be my last...Lana writes books with flawed yet perfect character and a story that takes us on an emotional roller coaster...
This was no exception.

After reading almost every series written by this author, I would think that I am going to be prepared for whatever she is going to throw at us in the future but nooo...She proved with this book that you can never guess what will happen next in the book because every page, word even a syllable will change the course of the book and the twists she throws at us....MIND BLOWN...

The book starts with a hit, introducing Donatello, an ex crime lord, who is trying to get into the good grace of current Mafia leaders by arranging a plan to wed his nephew off to the leader's daughter. But the daughter Williow is not what she seems to be.
The history between Don and Willow clashed and in this war of Revenge and Redemption you never know who to trust and who will be the one to betray you.

The central characters Don and Willow are so broken. Their history together binds them in an unusual bond. Their age gap and the Mafia context made this a compelling and addictive read.
The author has painted such a beautiful story with relalistic charcters whom we can easily emphatize to.

Mischa and Eden too have a part here...chararcters from other series by Lana who have aced the secondary supportive characters flawlessly.

I CAN SAY THIS WITHOUT ANY HESITATION THAT THIS IS THE BEST WORK BY LANA SKY YET.

The cliffhanger was shocking and captivating yet satisfying...I am filled with so many emotions at the end and cant wait to grab the next installment for Don and Willow.. or is it Safiya...

Stunned! Utterly Stunned! From the very beginning of this book-with the author painting a very clear picture of each character-especially Don, I knew I would be invested in this story. Little did I know how emotionally invested I would be, and how mentally scarred I would be when I kept trying to turn the page to a finished book. The ending is a cliffhanger, one of the best I’ve ever read.
These characters throughout the book are so broken, so haunted that their revenge and redemption take a rather large seat with us on this wild ride that Willow is buckled in tight for.
The writing progressed extremely well, the story moved so fast, I kept having to take breaks to absorb the amazing writing, and I found myself never wanting the story to end. I’m still holding my breath from reading that ending, and will most definitely be one clicking book 2 as soon as it’s available!

I have come to absolutely love reading books from Lana Sky. She comes to the table with a very unique perspective on her characters and she’s not afraid to push the boundaries when she needs to. Point in case, tomorrow the world will have access to Ruthless King and the story of Donatello Vanici will be revealed.

First off, this story takes place within the context of Mafia families. You will be introduced to the current hierarchy of ruling families and the position each one has. Our focus is brought in on Donatello, or Don, and his approach at trying to get back into the families good graces after he turned a new leaf. Known in his past as Il Mostro for his heinous crimes, he suffered a tragic incident and decided to live his life through credible jobs and activities. But now he needs to secure the safety of his nephew within these ruling families.

All of their community has come together to celebrate the 19th birthday of Mischa Stepanov’s daughter. Mischa is currently the lead man in the Mafiya and everyone has arrived to try and secure her affection in hopes of uniting within that family.

As you can tell, we are dealing with dark crime lords and the inner workings of their families. Within these families there are lots of dark activities that take place and many of which include the trafficking and extortion of children. Mischa happens to “collect” many of the children within the industry that have been sold off, at least this is alluded to, and it leads the readers to wonder if he has a more sinister plan for these children.

Be prepared that this book ends on a cliff hanger and is only an introduction to the start of this series. But I loved the main female character known as both Willow and Safiya. She was the daughter of a crime lord who was then handed off into the care of Don Vanici who raises her for a while until a terrible crime up ends Don’s family and he has to make a choice regarding Safiya’s life that will forever haunt him.

A beautiful and tragic story about what it’s like living within these confines and dynamics and never knowing who you can really trust. Your anxiety will be tested, your emotions will be pulled in several directions and you may be quite uncomfortable with many of the scenes in this book. But if it sounds interesting, I recommend giving it a try, I loved it and can’t wait for the next installment!

Oh, my Lord. This is one of the most emotionally heart rending books I've read. And I've read a lot of them.
Be prepared & gird your loins because Ms. Sky will scoop out your heart & emotions with this one, throw them in a blender, without mercy.
The depth of sheer agony detailed for both the main characters in this book, Donatello (anti-H) & Willow (h/aka Mouse & Safiya), is excruciating in the extreme. And Ms. Sky knows how to smoothly lure in the reader, make them care about the characters: deeply; worry about them: intensely; need to know more about them: obsessively.
And this, IMO, is the power of her writing, how d*mn evocative it is, that imaginary people, words on a page are able to so infuse themselves into the reader's mind. I know it happened for me.
I found myself swirled deeper & deeper into Don & Willow's trauma, grief, guilt, tragedy.
My heart bled for mute Willow who though adopted, beloved, cherished & protected by powerful frightening giant of a man & his wife, Willow still at the back of her mind wasn't good enough for either her father or Don to keep.
And I even found my heart bleeding for Don, despite the heinous act he perpetrated against a young trusting Safiya while in the dark blackness & throes of utter grief. For seven years he's refused to allow himself to forget what he did & to whom he did it. Haunted, fighting enormous guilt every minute of everyday, he attempts to survive to ensure the one remaining person he loves is safe & free of the blood & taint of Don's Mafia past.
But Willow wants answers.
She is stalled with anger & hate.
She craves vengeance.
And then Don enters her world once again . . . .
Again, this one is an emotional tour de force, there is no gainsaying the pain, trauma & agony both Willow & Don feel & torture themselves with. Ms. Sky's writing is subtly dark & deftly draws the reader into a gut wrenching tale of loss, despair, betrayal & danger that cannot be escaped, nor does the reader wish to do so. We are privy to both Don & Willow's POVs allowing us to bit by bit understand just how this tragedy came about & why. But understanding does not negate the pain in any way, only adds to it to understand the missteps & mistakes of one hurt & enraged beyond sanity.
But this one is excellent, the reader is strapped into this roller coaster with no way off. The writing is superb in it's intensity & power to evoke the readers anger, sympathy, empathy & surprise all while taking us along on Don & Willow's harrowing journey through hell.
But sometimes, in order to see the light of the sun, to feel the warmth & regeneration of its rays, one must pass through & survive a torrential & devastating storm. And right now, both Don & Willow are in the midst of the storm created by others & themselves, attempting to survive.
And I have my fingers crossed for them to do so.
Because I CARE so much for both of them & WANT them to succeed.

“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒔,” 𝑰 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆. “𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅, 𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒘𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆.”

If your looking for a story which is twisted, full of hatred and revenge, and makes you want to take a second to process everything you've read so far, then this is for you. This is no ordinary age gap dark romance.

After reading this, my emotions just went blank. The hurt, the pain, the anger, the need for revenge, everything is too intense and there are parts where some tears might have escaped. There isn't any romance in this book, but no doubt we're getting there.

This is the first book in the Mice & Men series which leaves you in a haze where you'll need time to come out. You'll need time to think but you'll be wanting the next book -- "Queen of Thorns" in your hands ASAP.
Definitely recommended!

**There are some trigger warnings that should be considered before you start reading.**

If you're unfamiliar with @LanaSky 's work then let me guide you. Her books aren't simple; they're f*cked up, confusing and you'll always be at a loss when you start, but as soon as you start understanding, the book will end with a cliffhanger. Her writing style is unique and unlike that of any I've ever read which makes it more desirable.

Wow beautiful love story!
A love story of two broken souls that didn’t know how much they needed each other. A story with great side characters that you would love equally. A man trying to redeem himself and show his potential in a since win his throne and a 19 year old girl who is not your typical doormat.
This left me wanting more and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

If you want to read about mafia and age gap book, that will give you a equal amazing mixture of both tropes this book is for you.

I was mesmerized from the first paragraph. The details and the intricate way that the author was able to create a vision of not only the story but the characters as well was astounding. If I closed my eyes I was able to conjure exactly what the author was trying to portray with just her words.

I felt the pain and the guilt that these characters felt. I felt their motivations and the things that made them tick. I became invested in finding out what was going to happen next. My heart hurt with all of the feelings, both past and present, that these characters were eliciting in their words, actions, and mannerisms which is nothing new considering that this author is the queen at making me feel as I am part of the story as it unfolds. There was suspense, a touch of mystery, and so many questions that were demanding answers. The book was amazing all the way through it but it really ramped up at the end of the story and left me almost wanting to throw my kindle in order to see what is going to happen next.

The world-building and mastery at play in this book are just two examples as to why this author is one of my favorites. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Ruthless King is a very intense story! Lana Sky takes the reader on a journey filled with love and hate, revenge and forgiveness, buy sadly with a lot of sorrow and remorse.
Willow is a 19 year old young woman who has been through more than most people endure in a lifetime. At a young age she finds herself in the safe and strong arms of Mischa and Ellen, and becomes a member of their family. But she remembers Don and how he treated her the last time he saw her.
Ruthless King is an amazing story woven together with innuendo and Lana's prose.
This is definitely a top read of 2020!

Dark and deliciously addictive - fabulous start to a new series!

I LOVED this dark and addictive mafia romance, which I inhaled over the course of one day. Ruthless King is the first book in Mice and Men, a spin off series set in Lana Sky’s War of the Roses universe. This intense read features revenge, betrayal and heartache, as well as scenes of blood and violence. The book can be read as a standalone but features characters from that series, not least Mischa and Ellen and Willow/Mouse.

The central characters, Willow and Donatello are so badly broken - my heart ached for both of them. Willow is devoted to her family but at the same time feels apart from it, forever haunted by prior events in her life and the man who betrayed her. Donatello is a tortured soul who desires to put his violent mafiya past behind him and ensure his heir has a secure future.

However, events spiral out of control, bringing Willow and Donatello together in a dangerous and sexy dance; the emotional connection between them is visceral. Shenanigans within the mafia world shatter Donatello’s plans for a peaceful future and he is left on the brink of madness. All that remains is a twisted desire to wreak revenge on all who have thwarted his hopes for the future. Willow soon finds herself within the grasp of a man where past and present collide in a maelstrom of intense emotions. I found the book to be an emotional, character driven read, with a strong and inventive plot, effortlessly drawing me into the world depicted by the author.

I will divulge no more. Suffice to say that this is a truly awesome read for fans of dark mafia romance – it ticks all the boxes and more. I cannot wait for the next instalment of Willow and Donatello’s story.

Please note that a copy of this book was given to me by the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Morality check

I am deeply regretful at what I just read. The topic of child trafficking is deeply disturbing and painful. The MC sold his 12 year old charge into human trafficking ring. At first, reading the snippets of memories of both MCs, I thought for sure it is some kind of misunderstanding. Later in the book to confirm that MC sold his charge Safy with an intent knowing fully the consequences. So, how does it make him different from child molesters, abusers, rapist and murders. It does not. It doesn't matter his justification and inner turmoil.
I am deeply saddened that I have rooted for him in the beginning, supporting his character. As at his hands kids like Safy suffer. I feel ashamed and abhorred that this type of characters even written into being. I feel supporting him is betrayal to all the kids that were sold, abused and tortured.
So no, I am not going to support this type of reading and the author. I am going to ask for forgiveness from all the victims of human trafficking and support those organizations instead of books that perpetuated this violence and crime.
Please read with caution and draw your own opinions.

This is definitely one of her better works! I LOVED seeing Don go from a good guy to a crazy mad man, and the author wrote that descent so well! Honestly, it was so refreshing and exciting because usually they go from bad to good, not the other way around. The concept was great, I think even the execution in this book was much better than Lana's usual books. Her style remains vague and confusing at times, also very repetitive, but this book is one of the very few I enjoyed from her. But I have to say, not much actually happens in this book when I think about it. It is a quick and short read, but quite interesting.

Ruthless King is unexpected and mesmerizing. The characters are complex and intertwined. The story is full of intrigue and suspense with unexpected twists and turns. There is no way I can anticipate what is going to happen in a Lana Sky book; but, she outdid herself in this one.

For me, there is nothing more terrifying than reading about a mental breakdown. This story goes down and dirty into Willow's backstory, and introduces us to the redemption of Donatello. He loved his little girl, known then as Safiya, and has been atoning since giving her up to a bad criminal. Poor Safiya had been taken from her real parents, low level criminals, and given a false sense of security with Don. But after a life changing event happens, Safiya is once again given up and dropped into danger. Safiya has become Willow, reborn a Stepanov and happy.

But when she has a coming out party, Don has crashed the festivities hoping to meet Willow and marry her to his nephew Vin. Don doesnt know who Willow is. Suddenly, memories attack Willow, forcing her to remember and want answers.

"But like some lingering infection, he’s already inside me anyway, seeping into my veins with every frantic surge of my pulse. The memories descend one after the other, until I’m drowning in them. All I can think about is him. Donatello, the man who left me for dead. So sweet, his laugh could infect an entire room of people with joy. One smile from him could charm the sun from the sky."

It evens affects the way she feels about her place in her adopted family.

"And it became more apparent than ever what an anomaly I am in this family. Like an off-note in an otherwise flawless aria. You don’t notice it at first—perhaps one might assume it’s part of the song. But the more you play the piece, the more pronounced that one note sounds. Until it’s all you can hear, grating above the rest. Destroying the otherwise harmony."

"I feel strange. Lost. Empty. Like I’ve ripped off a mask I’ve been wearing for so long, I’d forgotten it wasn’t my real face. Without it, I’m someone nameless devoid of a real identity. A waif with her blond hair falling from its elegant coil, draping her shoulders with random strands."

The best parts of this book are where Author Sky describes the complexity that is Willow Stepanova. She is mafia born and seemingly immune to violence, yet she never accepted this new role with parents who love her. And when tragedy strikes, Willow is thrust overboard into the past.

Let me clarify my first sentence in this review. Reading Don fall into a drunken, chaotic meltdown is both exhilarating and terrifying. Author Sky takes every emotion and swirls it into a destructive tornado. He thinks its all over, so he has nothing to lose.

"“Would anyone even care if I killed you?” he wonders in a cruel whisper. I brace myself as he lowers his weight over me, hoovers his mouth above where his thumb still lies. “You are at my mercy. Tell me your name, and I’ll let you go. Or gasp. Whimper. Anything to prove it. I’m begging you. I’ll get on my knees if that’s what you #$&% want.” He chuckles madly at the thought of it. He sounds mad. Earnest. A man at his wits’ end with nothing to lose. “Prove to me you are not Safiya. Or… Prove to me you are her.”"

The back and forth between coherence and insanity is brutal and I was memorized. Author Sky is always bringing something new to the table, and this mafia story isn't like the others. Instead of relying on made man cliches she writes a story about a young woman trying to fit in among the constant violence and intensity that never dies down.

Ruthless King is a part of the 'War of Roses' Universe by Lana Sky and I would definitely recommend reading the initial War of Roses trilogy first. The two main characters in this book are first introduced then and this book is set at a future point after those. I have previously read the WOR trilogy but wish I'd re-read it before starting this, as I felt some parts would have flown a bit better for me and I wouldn't have been struggling to remember previous events as much.

"Wars may begin and end, but battle scars will always remain."

Initially, I wasn't sure how I felt about this book, as at the start I did have to re-read a few paragraphs due to getting a bit lost. However, I was basically in floods of tears for the last third of the book, the heartbreak these characters went through killed me and I truly felt Don's pain especially!

Willow has been through so much in such a short period of time. I personally could understand her confliction over Don, as this was a man who she truly trusted and cared for. But the fact that she understood why Don's behaviour changed towards her, when she was younger, was incredibly perceptive. Her relationship with her family though, was incredibly sweet and I loved her interactions with the other Stepanov children. Seeing them grown up and having such a good relationship with each other was adorable.

Don, on the other hand, is steeped in guilt over his past actions, which have led to him becoming the man he is now. His love for Vincenzo, and the need to do better for him truly came through throughout the whole book.

"If all hell breaks loose, he takes priority. I don't care what the f**k happens; you save him over me. Do you understand?"

I think out of both the characters, Don's is the most complex. Although his character arc was a little cyclic with the constant grief and going round in circles about Safy, I can understand why he was like that. And I think that had some affect on how strongly he cared for Vincenzo, given he was now his only family. But the bond that the two had was truly that of a father and son.

"I think every father cracks a grin when he sees his baby boy out in the world."

Although this book had the underlying theme of brutality and ruthlessness, it wasn't quite as brutal as the WOR trilogy, which I preferred. There's still plenty of action, betrayal and darkness throughout, but not quite as much physical brutality. I think LS did a really good job at showing the change in character for Don though from the beginning of the book to the end.

Overall, I did think there was a little bit of repetitiveness from both characters regarding their past relationship, and it was a little bit weird that Don now had feelings for Willow. However, I think it's going to be interesting to see how their romantic relationship develops and I hope we get a bit more of an explanation of why Luca left Safy. It was hinted at and Don does go into some detail, but I still feel like there was more to it.

*Received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

He was once known as Il Mostro, The Butcher among others, but he’s changed, and he lives his life on the straighter path now. He was once the head of the famiglia, but that didn’t protect him or his family and the day he lost them is the day his life changed forever. He lost everything that day and the days after were pure torture. Donatello Vanici had it all and lost it all. Now his life is making sure that his nephew Vincenzo finishes medical school and has a good life. The only problem is that he could lose Vincenzo too, and it would be the last straw for Donatello.

She wasn’t wanted by her parents. She survived an illness, but it left her mute and her parents saw her as damaged and a pawn. The day that she was taken to Donatello’s house and left was the day her life started to look up, but that changed after Donatello lost his family. He needed to hurt, so he decided to hurt Safiya by selling her at the age of 12. She only tasted a loving house and family for a short time until she was rescued by the Pakhan, Mescha Stepanov and once again her life has taken a turn for the better. The only problem is that Safiya is having a hard time accepting that it will last. The only way she can move on and accept her life with the Stepanov’s is to see the past dead and buried. She has changed her name, but her past won’t let her go. She is no longer Safiya Mangenello, she is now Willow Stepanova.

This story was dark, twisted, and brutal. Donatello was a man in charge until he lost everything and became a broken man that just wanted to live his life and protect his nephew. When he and Vin go a debutante ball for Willow Stepanova, Don finds his world crashing down on him once again and he could lose everything this time, including his mind. His fall won’t be of his own making in the end, but he will get vengeance on the man that has ruined so much of his life. This story ends on a cliff hanger and is full of action, twisted scenes, page turning suspense and great characters. I give this story a 5-star review and am anxious for Queen of Thorns to come out.

Ruthless King went by in such a blur--in a good way. I found that I couldn't get enough of it as I was reading, as demonstrated by my consuming it all in one go. Definitely another hit for me from Lana Sky who has been one of my favourite authors for years, and she consistently writes fantastic novels.

Mice and Men is a spin off from the War of Roses trilogy, but can be read as a standalone series. However, I found that having read the previous series I was able to recognize and revisit some characters that I enjoyed reading, but from through the new perspective of Willow and Donatello. Ruthless King carries a lot of emotional intensity throughout, which is one of the characteristics of Lana Sky's writing style that I love, and I thought that Willow and Donatello's internal conflict and history with one another was incredibly well thought out and intentional. I thought the way in which both of these characters were characterized was fascinating, and I'm looking forward to being able to explore them further. I have to say though, one weakness I thought was present was how secondary or supporting characters weren't given as much attention in their development, though I understand why this was done. And overall, it didn't really take away from my enjoyment of the rest of the novel. While a lot of subject matter was really heavy, I found that Ruthless King was easy to read, and had the effect of almost literally pulling me in.

As a longtime reader of Lana's I have come to expect those endings (if you know you know), and this time was no different. It left me with a lot of mixed emotions, but that's what makes it so good. The moment I finished, I was a little bit of a mess, her writing leaves you with this feeling that's just so hard to describe.

Needless to say, I would highly recommend giving Ruthless King a shot. It was beautiful, and I want the next one preferably now, but very soon also works.

Donatello Vanici wants to go "legal" but he is having difficulties and he wants revenge for the killing of his wife Olivia in the past. He knows the best thing for him is to marry again to forge an alliance with another family but he is meeting with resistance from Mischa Stepanov.

Willow Stepanov was taken in by Mischa and adopted after he found her but she hasn't forgotten her past. She craves revenge on the man who left her for dead.

When Donatello and Willow's path cross each have an agenda but there is much more at stake and in the past than either initially realize. Will either be able to accomplish what they set out to do?

This was a great beginning to this series but continuation of Mischa's family.

I wasn't too sure what to make of Donatello initially. I was happy that it was clear that he wanted to go legal but he also had some ghosts in his past with the death of his wife, Olivia, and it was clear that he wanted some sort of revenge. I was also a little confused at why he seemed to be at odds with Mischa from the beginning and I am hoping that will become clear.

I love Willow so much with everything that she has overcome thanks to Mischa giving her a chance. It's clear that she has never forgotten her past though and wants revenge on those that left her for dead. I understood that but I was curious on why she never opened up to Mischa as he would have helped her.

There was a huge turn of events at the market and I wasn't surprised on how Mischa reacted and I understood why he wanted revenge and how that impacted Donatello.

The very end left me shocked and I am curious to see what happens next!

I devoured the War of the Roses trilogy like a delicious decadent three course meal. I didn't think Lana could write a spinoff that was as good as the original. My mistake. I drunkenly consumed Ruthless King like a full bodied red wine and it left me heady for more. Ruthless King is definitely a contender for the top mafia spot and a worthy successor of the "Roses" trilogy. This is a standalone and you don't need to have read the "Roses" trilogy in order to read Ruthless King but trust me after reading this book you will want to run and get the trilogy.

Simply put the "King" rules and he is indeed quite Ruthless! But heavy lies the head that wears the crown. Donatello didn't want war. He wanted to leave the brutal trail of mafia blood beyond him on the battle field but you can't have peace when your enemy chooses to strike...

Willow our heroine finds herself caught in the middle of a war between rulers. She may be the spoils but she also has a reason to take up arms. As Willow and Donatello's past and old wounds are revealed tensions run high between them and we are left to wonder who indeed will become the casualty of this war.

Lana spins a tale of revenge, blood and betrayal that will have you yearning for the next book before the last page of this one is read. It is dark and filled with characters that you want to know more about and perhaps read about in their own books...

As for now the king reigns but as any chess player knows it is the queen that has true power - and we will see Donatello make her move in book 2.

Out of the blue!  I was not expecting to read this amazing but twisted story by Lana Sky.  Ruthless King is book one in the Mice and Men series and it was mind blowing.  I had a little bit of a hard time following the different characters in the very beginning but eventually everything was explained and made sense.  In previous mafia books that I have read they always describe the MMC and MFC as these broken but strong people that overcome great obstacles.  In Ruthless King you will find that Donatello is an obstacle of his own making and there really is no overcoming him.  Ruthless is a great describing word for Donatello and as a King of his own making.  5-stars for Ruthless King by Lana Sky.

It’s Willow Stepanova’s birthday party and her pakhan has spared no expense.   Donatello Vanici has brought his nephew to the party in hopes he catches the princess’ attention.   Donatello also wants to do business the head of the Stepanov family but can’t get close enough to achieve this.  When Donatello quickly leaves after being discovered for party crashing and Willow is missing, the tone for the party changes.  Things quickly go awry and one bad decision leads to another.  Soon the legitimate businessman Donatello is finds himself once again being forced to be the Ruthless King that he tried to leave behind.

"Cold, his eyes rake over me. From my scalp, down to my heaving chest. His jaw twitches, his breathing audibly unsteady. Heavy. Rasping."

5 Mafioso Stars!!! This book is everything you need in a mafia romance!

Donatello is a man with many secrets, a dark past and a business to run. Willow from a rival family, also has a dark past, and is hiding from her demons. She's out for revenge and will get it anyway she can. When she crosses Donatello's path, everything falls apart and things take a turn!

I love a good dark mafia book and this one hit all the spots! Lana definitely takes you on a deep dive with this book. The twists and turns will give you whiplash in all the best ways! And that's as far as I'm going on in my review, you need to read the book for yourself!

This was definitely such an intense book that sparked my interest from the beginning.

Once again, Lana and her entire plot grabbed me right from the start. You get emotions, tension, drama, and turmoil across every page.

The book is mainly focused on Donatello and Willow; Don is haunted by his past and a man with secrets. You will find yourself wanting to read more and more about his past and the reasons behind everything. Willow can't forget about her traumatic past, she's hiding her own demons, but she's strong and has a thirst for revenge- a revenge that will not be as easy to get as she once thought; her emotions play a big role as they confuse her and they don't let her do everything as she once planned. The dynamic between Don and Willow was another thing that pulled me in straight away.

You get to see both sides of the story in this book, soon things escalate quickly, and one bad decision leads to the other. Donatello finds himself in a position where he's back to that person he tried so hard to left behind. Willow finds herself once again caught in the middle of a war.

This is a well-written story, the way everything unfolds kept me on the edge the entire time. It will leave you craving and ready for more. Will recommend this story to anyone that loves mafia, age-gap, dark, and twisted stories🖤
