Hi! So, I'm the author and I'd like to tell you a bit about what to expect from 'Crystal' - some inside information you won't get from the blurb.
'Crystal' is a true YA SFF. Follow three teenagers as they navigate the unusual situation of a real life stranded alien, while being hunted by a dark, murderous stranger. As light hearted as it is dark, this book sets the scene for the rest of the series, introducing you to Crystal at the beginning of her unexpected rule as Queen of Starlatten—and what a rocky start it is...
If you like a touch of magic/sci-fi grounded in realism, doused with the heightened emotions of teenage love and angst, this will definitely rock your boat.
Book 2 - Rebel - is out now! Book 3 - Legacy - releases on March 21!
Enjoy, Starlights!

This book was out of this world. Both literally and figuratively! An SFF YA novel, with elements of romance, adventure, and contemporary, this book gave me all the feels and left me wanting more, more, more.
A fish out of water tale with an intergalactic twist, Crystal follows the eponymous character who is an alien princess crash landed on earth after her spaceship is shot down, killing everyone she’s ever known or loved. With her parents dead, Crystal knows she has a duty to return to her planet, Starlatten, and take on her new role as Queen. Unfortunately, that could prove harder than expected, when she realises her pod is broken. Stranded on a planet she knows nothing about, she soon finds new friends, enemies, and perhaps even love.
But when dark forces close in, Crystal learns that things are never what they seem, and she may just have to choose between her heart, and her home...

Left me starry-eyed:
. The romance –
This book was full of so many emotional twists and turns they left me shouting at the author WHY MUST YOU PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS??? (I mean this in the very best way, but also I was in pain.)

Especially halfway through, when the ship I had been wildly rooting for looked like it might be sunk by a love triangle.

I was reeling with all the feels it gave me, in the very best way. So much teen drama, so much marshmallowy goodness, so much to LOVE!
. The characters – I loved them all, but complete MVP of the whole book was Linda. I spent half the book promising to riot if Linda didn’t get everything she deserved, because she was such a cinnamon roll. A sassy cinnamon roll, though, since she definitely had little extra spice sprinkled in there. Ughhhhh. Linda. Is. The. Best. Fight me.
. The ending – On first read I didn’t know how to feel because I was so mind blown.

You know you’ve just finished something awesome, when you can’t stop thinking about it after. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two, even though I was DEVASTATED and ANGRY at at the very end. HOW DARE YOU Let’s just say, I was passionate about it.

Flying into the future:
. Starlatten –
I can’t wait to see what Crystal’s planet looks like. I know we got a few glimpses in this book, but I’m so excited to see this more in depth. It sounds like such a cool setting, and I’m so hyped.
. Rebellion – I desperately want answers to some of the questions this book raised. How will Crystal handle her new role at the same time as handling all that?
. Powers – Crystal already showed her powers developing, but I’m excited to see where it can go when she trains even more. I want her to be a total badass QUEEN in every sense of the word!
. MORE LINDA PLEASE – I just need more Linda, mmkay?

I’m having a hell of a year for top reads in 2020, because this is another strong 4.5/5. If you love sci-fi then what are you waiting for? Add this to your TBR now!

It is her debut novel and she has done a remarkable work with it. It is a sci-fi fantasy 😉. I loved the twist of humor added to it to make it a light read. Also the development of the characters of Dylan, Crystal and Jaik was carved beautifully. Also I loved the character of Linda because of her unbending courage *like who takes on a stranger with a dagger so easily! * This is the start of a compelling trilogy where you yourself experience the connection between Earth and Starlatten .Crystal has a really heart wrenching history and this book deeply describes how she comes to terms with a sudden galactic change while capturing a heart to steady her 🥺 I'm so excited for diving into REBEL now😍.
You can also read Crystal on Kindle it's very low on price!!

For someone who is very picky about anything with even a small note of scifi, I read this book in 4 or 5 days, I was hooked! Cupid does an amazing job showing you the characters and adding just enough angst to keep your eyes reading and your anxiety soaring. After a certain part, I was afraid the book would lose steam, but it didn't miss a single beat. I was so invested in the relationships the characters had, I wanted to keep turning page after page. This book was an incredible YA read. I cannot wait until I can dig my eyes into book 2.

"This is insane," he breathes. "We shouldn't-"
"I've never really done something I shouldn't," I interrupt. "So maybe that's a good enough reason why we should."

I love this book! A stranded space princess crash lands on earth after losing everything. With the help of some spunky teenagers, she discovered that there may be more to the attack on her ship than she originally thought.

Darby Cupid weaves together a plot of evil villains, young love, and gripping adventure that leaves you wanting more!

I can't wait for the next book!

I have to admit, I’d seen posts on Instagram for this book and I was a little apprehensive to read it, at first. I’m not too big on sci-fi and aliens. But I’m SO GLAD I decided to give it a chance!!

I adore Darby’s writing. The plot and my attachment to the characters made this a very fast read, I was instantly hooked at only two chapters in. The characters are so lovable and relatable. I love the multiple character POVs of Crystal, Dylan, and Jake. And the romance? *insert heart eyes emoji* Chef’s kiss! It doesn’t disappoint!!

If the cover doesn't get ya, the storyline will. Just trust me on this. You're going to want to read this book!

Who doesn't love aliens? Okay, maybe not the terrifying gray ones who abduct you...
But I mean more like the ones with amazing personalities who don't steal you away from your bed.

In this book you meet Crystal, a shipwreck alien from a distant planet who luckily is found by a group of kids hell-bent on helping her succeed in getting back home. Together, they undergo a journey of self-discovery, love, and ... murder. Each turn of the page kept me hooked and wanting to know more about Crystal, her planet, and the kids who discovered her. I also had pull myself away from the edge of my seat at the end when the author leaves us on a cliffhanger. Now, I'm chomping at the bit for book two.

If you're looking for a cute story with spunky characters, evil villains, and kick-ass magic coming from an amulet (can you please tell me where I can get one?) ... You'll love this story!

I had the pleasure of reading this gem before it’s release date of July 31st.
💜🔮🪐🌎
It’s about an alien princess with a magical amulet (as seen on this beautiful cover) who finds herself on a strange planet called Earth, and a motley crew of human teens who stumble upon her.

Their sometimes (most times) misguided attempts to discover WHY she’s here and WHO wants her dead makes this book a real page turner; I lost sleep. And I love sleep.

There’s mystery, cute crushes and gasp inducing twists!

When I came to the last line, my first thought was “when does book 2 come out because I NEED TO KNOW?!”

It gives me Stranger Things vibes with the ‘chosen family’ trope and ‘kids know better’ element. There are multiple POV’s and it has a feel-good factor, despite the death, despair and deception... 🤔

My advice? Pre-order this now!

I have just finished this beautiful book! This book grabs you and sucks you in and doesn’t let go.

The story building is amazing, the writing is brilliant the way certain things are described through Crystal’s POV it makes you appreciate certain things. The LT? I can’t even pick a team both boys have my heart.

That ending? My heart feels for Crystal but I can’t wait to see the world building that is Starlatten. This book had me entranced and I loved it so much. I can’t wait to read rebel.

Seriously you guys, go read this book. One it’s beautiful and two? It’s amazing and written beautifully.

I was given an ARC of this by the author for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this and I thought it was a wonderful debut , it’s so nice to see more YA SF as a lot leans towards fantasy but I enjoyed the fact this leant to Scifi more. It has everything you could want it’s YA, it’s SFF, romance, it has action and great characters, but this is also a lot darker than the cover would suggest, it deals with issues like domestic abuse and handles them with sensitivity and care, that’s not to say it’s too dark, just that it’s not a completely light and fluffy YA book if that’s what you are after. It deals with real issues, it’s relatable for the characters are not just generic scifi leads but dealing with real issues not always found in SFF , but it does have a feel good factor and it is a fun read even with serious issues, destruction of the universe and ..wellill leave you to read it. Overall, it’s a great YA debut and I look forward to future books in the series and by the author.

I found the novel, Crystal, to be gripping because I don’t typically gravitate to this genre very often with my reading habitats. I love them in my movies and television, so I figured I would give it a chance when I had the opportunity to read one. In the end, I am so glad I did because this story kept my interest right away with the mystery girl who is found in a field bloodied and disoriented. A group of kids goes on a journey to help her find out where she is from and find her way home. She finds friendship and love with strangers that she never expected in the most unlikely places along the way. They go on an adventure that is both dangerous and exciting. Still, unfortunately for them, not everyone will make it out in one piece. There are evil forces at play, and they are coming for Crystal, whether she is ready or not.

Darby Cupid’s debut novel is a beautiful young adult read that would have any teen running out to buy the sequel when it arrives later this year. I know I look forward to finding out what happens with Crystal and hopefully see more of her friends in the next book. Crystal is a sci-fi romance with all the mystery and suspense that leaves you wanting more.

Crystal is a fun and fast paced story of crystal, a girl from starlatten survives an attack that killed her parents and falls to earth by accident. A group of teens found her unconscious and helped her. Story starts with so many questions- who is crystal, what accident led her to earth?
While the group discovers more about her, an attack on a scientist attracts the group to investigate more and it leads them to fellow starlaten Jaik, who do not remember anything.
While the puzzle falls into place slowly, the villian comes into picture and oh I loved the villain so much....
In short this story has all my favourite elements- group of friends investigating a mystery involving aliens with special powers, friends becoming lovers, falling in love "for however long they had"
All the characters are so well written. Story is being told by 3 POVs. It progresses at perfect pace.
Every character has something unique about them and I loved each one of them. The anti heroes were perfectly sketched.
The writing style is absolutely mesmerizing!!!
Looking forward to read the second part!!!

I. Loved. This. Book!!! I was lucky to receive an early copy of this and immediately put down my other book and finished Crystal in a day. The characters are so easy to fall in love with and I loved the story. It was easy to see things from Crystal's point of view and how strange things can be - I mean, how do you even begin to describe bowling to someone that's not from earth??!? And the ending. Oh man. I need the next book, and I need it now!

So do yourself and your bookshelf a favor and read this asap!!

Full of mystery, discovery, friendship and love, Crystal by Darby Cupid is a very entertaining read. A debut YA sci-fi novel, Crystal is the first of a new series called Starlatten.

Darby grabs the readers attention from the first page and holds it effortlessly through to the end. Each chapter leaves you wanting more. In essence, it’s a page-turner. And the ending! It’s a cliff hanger, that’s for sure!

The strongest part of the book, is the trope. The group of friends are all strong characters that support each other beautifully and merge with the new characters introduced later in the series perfectly. I think we would all love to have friends like that in our lives.

While the story left some strings hanging and the pace could be a little more smooth, these are issues that the author will easily improve on as she continues writing. There’s no denying the story is entertaining and memorable and definitely deserves 4 hearts. I look forward to the next book in the series!

I received an ARC from Darby Cupid in exchange for my honest review.

This was a super whimsical tale of intergalactic fate, snarky friendships, and lost souls finding each other. Crystal, our titular character, was a ball of softness and girl power, make that alien girl power. It was a super easy read, and I drifted along a river filled with best friends I’ll never meet. This book IMO is super accurate to what would happen if teenage me ran into a person who just crash landed from the sky. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

Three and a half stars for this one. I enjoyed the plot line although the changing PoV is not my normal preference it did lend itself well to the story. Personal preferences in reading aren't usually something I detract stars for because many people love it. In this case it was fun to see how everyone thought of the same situations and seeing things from each one's perspectives in a way that didn't feel like headhopping. This would be a perfect book for a high school reader looking to add some sci-fi to the mix. Crystal is a princess that comes from a distant planet, on the run after her parents are killed. Dylan is a typical teenager who finds himself embroiled in an interstellar assassination plot when he finds Crystal. It is a really fun adventure for YA readers with hints of Star Wars vibes with a princess on the run, evil baddies and more. The teenage vibe is well presented in the writing and the younger generation will connect with the romance aspect although it wasn't as believable to me. It is more of an instant connection that I wish had been more of a slow burn, but then again, what teenager's hormones' doesn't cause them to fall madly in love quickly? The teens make typical teenage mistakes which make them believable and drove me crazy as an adult looking at them going, 'No, just do this instead!' but totally relatable all the same thinking back on the choices I would have made at that age. Definitely one to recommend to your teen.

It's between 2.5 and 3.
The book started off really good and interesting. I love how easy to read it was. I just felt like it was very fast paced and I wasn't a fan of that. Everything was going too quickly and it didn't have the time to develop nicely. The characters were getting annoying by the end of the book, they acted so childish and made unnecessary drama. I also wasn't a fan of the insta love (they barely knew each other, like, not even a week)
On the positive side, I really liked Jaik and his story even though he became quite annoying towards the end. It had some really cute moments and inspirational quotes.
This just wasn't my cup of tea but I'll be looking forward to reading the other books, maybe I'll like them more.
I encourage you to read it and form your own opinion about the book because not everyone has that same taste ^^

It’s fast paced sci-fi, I’ll not say that I’m a fan of aliens 👽 but after reading this, I would not hate them. The concept of advance planets and primitive ones was great, I liked the mention of them that way. Story of three individuals and how their life changes over the course of the story is worth reading. I wanted more of Crystal and Dylan but somehow the amount of chemistry I got is also justified.
Those who are a fan of sci-fi or say even if you are not, then also give this one a try. You all will like it.
Not gonna say much, just diving into Rebel book 2 in the series.

Oh my gosh. Where do I start? This book... the descriptions and thought process between the characters is just lovely. I was sucked in by page 2 and flew through it. I thought to myself "one more chapter" so many times until I just had to keep going.
Read it. Love it. Seriously. I need the next book because that ending. 😱

What to say about this book? Crystal was everything I could've ever wanted, all wrapped up in one. You've got the science fiction/fantasy part, the YA part, the intrigue, the romance, and mystery. I like to think that it was love at first page, and although Crystal was only released a couple of months ago, I have already read it twice. That's how in love with this book I am.
The descriptions in this book are out of this world, and I mean that both literally and metaphorically🙃. Seriously though, 10/10 recommend. You won't regret picking up Crystal, trust me.

Omg. This was such a good read and I’m still *crying* and in need of book 2!

I just finished reading the book literally right now and I’m still so mind-blown and overwhelmed. I have to read book 2 now and know what happens next- like the cliffhanger hello?!

It’s been 2-3 years since I have read anything from the Sci-Fi genre as most of the time I get confused and end up not getting the whole story but this book is different. The plot, the characters, etc. etc., they are all great! And I find myself just opening my phone up and reading it whenever I can because it’s that addicting and good. Definitely one of my favorite reads this year-

ALSO can we just talk about Crystal and Dylan?!

What a rollercoaster ride. This book is full of adventure, love, fantasy and sci fi! From the minute you start reading you are hooked!

The way the book is divided into chapters telling the story from different points of view is brilliant. The chapter are quite short and make the book feel fast paced and exciting.

The characters... Brilliant -

Crystal - is written superbly taking into account she has no idea where she is or the culture she has landed in but Darby Cupid wrote her parts wonderfully explaining in the simplest of ways so it doesn’t over take the story!

Dylan- I think I will always be team Dylan! He is so sweet and understanding and he really wants to take care of Crystal.

Jake/Jaik - don’t get me wrong, the writing of this character was brilliant - but he is selfish, hence Dylan all the way for me. Also he lead Linda on which was not a nice thing to do!

The other characters in the book were also really well written taking in different personas to deal with their little adventure.

As you move through the story the different Characters storylines begin to intertwine with Starlatten and what is happening in Crystal’s planet and that the issues she is returning to face have been happening for a very long time! This make the anticipation for the next book overwhelming.

All in all, this book was very enjoyable and will definitely be a re read and I am looking forward to the next instalment.

This started off really good, but then lost steam about halfway through. I was getting annoyed by the way they talked like they were either children or monarchs, and a lot of it repeated. There were also grammar issues throughout and I was like...can someone edit this? Overall, I kind of stopped caring about anything except knowing if she was going to get back home, but I was definitely here for Crystal and Dylan’s sweet af romance. We definitely need more alien human stories in YA and this was enjoyable enough and ended on a decent cliffhanger that I would consider reading the second one.
