Cookie, Keziah and Jake are best mates and life is good. Cookie's birthday party is coming up and she has had the most fantastic idea for a Save the Planet party where everything is recyclable and no plastic is used. Before long, Cookie is buzzing with plans. But then disaster strikes - Suzie Ashby totally swipes Cookie's idea and sends out invitations for her own Save the Planet birthday party. Worse still, Suzie seems to think Cookie is her new best friend! Grrrr! Suzie is officially the most annoying girl in the world!
Cookie, the dramatic nine-year-old girl has NOW TURNED TEN!!! She had a 'Save The Planet' party for her birthday, but there is a problem. Suzie, the Most Annoying Girl in the World pipes in and tries to steal Cookie's birthday!! Second problem, she wants to become her best friend!!!! This means she'll give up being close to her ACTUAL friends, Jake and Keziah, and become best buddies with Suzie instead!!!! UGHHHH.....
Cookie was at her Uncle Mehdi's house for her birthday. Good news is that there are tickets for the Aliana Tiny gig in Wembley stadium. But Suzie wants to join in too!!!! Cookie wasn't hoping that Suzie got the tickets, but she didn't, Cookie did! These tickets made her birthday the best!! Hopefully.
Cookie will also have a bicycle voucher for a brand new bicycle! But, will she get it? And THAT lady named Mrs Edmonds has set up Forest Club. Members - Cookie, Jake, Keziah, Suzie, Alison and Axel. In chapter 17, Cookie couldn't have ZIPWIRED TO SUCCESS as she fell down and Axel didn't have a chance. Lovely happy ending...
Be who you am, am who you be, am feeling so good, just being me...
This children's book was written by former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq. She also illustrated the book and narrated the eBook. The book is about friendship, fears, and looking after the environment.
Cookie and her friends all say what they are afraid of, except for Jake - his fear only comes to light near the end of the story. The "most annoying girl in the world" is Suzi. She is not so good at caring for the planet! She goes all out to have an amazing 10th birthday party. No expense (or plastic) is spared. Does she have some redeeming features? Here's hoping!
Book two in Konnie Huq's Cookie! series follows on perfectly from the first. If you have read the first book, you already know what to expect. A now ten year old girl who is fiercely determined and intelligent.
The sequel finds Cookie and her friends on an adventure in the woods, as they take on pollution and the environment. As with the first book, I was pleased to see there were lots of learning opportunities alongside the fun and the humour.
I love the little doodles, and the way the gang all slowly conquered their fears. A really fun little series and I can't wait to find out what Cookie is up to next!
This is a lovely childrens book that helps to teach them about recycling and the benefit of it as well as how to help combat climate change. It is a mixture of texts and witty line drawings that pass interesting facts on to the children.
As well as teaching about saving the planet the children learn much about themselves and each other. They learn that every action towards another person causes reactions that are not always good.
This is a great read for our children as it helps them to grow and understand themselves and other people while they learn about the benefits of saving the planet.
I borrowed an e-copy of this book from my local library
When Cookie gets two tickets to see popstar Aliana Tiny, the annoying Suzie suddenly wants to be her friend. And since Keziah and Jake are already her best friends, how does it turn out that she chums up with Suzie? Can Cookie make it up to her friends, leave Suzie alone and get ready to save the planet as well?
This book was definitely funny. There are many jokes in it, which are accompanied by small doodles on every page.
But one of the best bits of this book is the storyline. I think it's very clever how the author mixes humour, saving the planet and how Cookie's life goes on. First, Suzie (a very annoying girl) is having a birthday party- and tries to steal Cookie's idea of a "Save The Planet Party" (despite her constant use of single-use plastic). And secondly? Suzie is trying to become Cookie's best friend... all for that ticket to an Aliana Tiny show. ("Be who you am, am who you be, say what you like, you'll never be me...")
However, in my opinion, the only problem with this book is the blurb. It didn't exactly catch my interest... the only reason I read it was because there were so many things on the back, saying things like, "Funny, smart and full of warmth" by authors like David Walliams and Frank Cottrel-Boyce, so I assumed this book would be good. I think the blurb should be written as if Cookie had wrote it herself; then it would give you the idea that the book was a funny one and you'd want to read it more.
Apart from that, this book is pretty good! A definite five stars.
Cookie! …and the most annoying girl in the world is Konnie Huq’s second book in the Cookie series. In this outing, Cookie finds out that her birthday present, concert tickets, causes more problems than it should. And she doesn’t even like the pop star they’re for!
Love to read the cookie books with my 9 year old. They are really funny without being silly poo jokes (very little at least) and have a few life lessons and a diverse cast. Although the main character is s girl, they are great for boys too!
Theme: Camping, friendship, outdoors. There is also talk about an Aliana Tiny concert which might be a trigger especially if you live in UK.
