An eye for an eye, a brother becoming a foe, and an obsession that will destroy everything…
Aileen loved two men since infancy; Ragnall, the hot-headed heir to the lairdship of clan Ewing, and Broehain, the brooding adopted son of the General.
A grown-up woman now, she recognizes that her heart is beating only for one, Broehain. When she confesses how she feels, his rejection shatters her to pieces, but then a marriage proposal from the future Laird comes.
Broehain doesn't want to reject the woman he has been in love with since he was a boy. The debt of life he owes to his best friend is forcing him to. After one kiss, though, he realizes that staying away from her is impossible.
To achieve happiness means to defy Ragnall, the man he calls brother, but that's not his only misfortune. Broehain's origins will come to light, and he will discover that the only family he knows, has murdered his true parents.
Friends will become enemies, and love for the same lass will tear them apart forever…
Fiona Faris is an American author of authentic historical Medieval & Scottish romance books. She started writing historical highlander romance after she visited the Scottish Highlands years ago with her husband.
Her books have received startling reviews about the humor, the darkness and the romance they have.
She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their two sons. Before she started writing romance, she experienced the various occupations: translator, dog-training, and a substitute English teacher for the most part of her life... However, nothing could ever compare to writing stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands!
A gripping tale with strong characters and a storyline with twists and intriguing turns. I felt a little sorry for Ragnall, but thought he didn't truly love Aileen. It seemed he only wanted her because she loved Broehain. His father coveted what was not his, and Ragnall has raped so many women! Both wanted a woman who could never love them, and in their arrogance these cruel men thought they could have what they wanted because of their status. I felt very sorry for Ragnall's mother, even though she was a minor, background character. Helga is an interesting character. Her heritage and healing skills have given her an inflated sense of her own worth and her greed is unmatched. I was a little shocked that her daughter played a part in her demise, but perhaps that was accidental. Lady Davina and General MacNair were lovely people, and it was gratifying to see them stand up for the truth to the very end. Our heroine and hero are strong and principled. Both think before they act and are prepared to listen when things appear to be something they are not. Brodie is quite an amazing man. He has kept the clan together over many years of hardship. Dewar is also loyal and brave. These and other minor characters give this story a true depth and insight into life in the highlands. I was a little disappointed in the extended epilogue. Who is at the door? Ragnall? Please don't leave us hanging!
This for me is a huge contrast to the past books by Fiona. I've been such a huge fan for a long time and I've seen her write stories that have captivated my imagination in various different ways while staying true to the Scottish culture. This one though...wow! First of, it's the first time I've seen her really utilize chapter titles. It somehow served as a preview to what the chapter was about but at the same time actually reading the chapter...the title somehow was an interesting distraction to the wealth of surprises. I've read past books where somehow the clan will have one or two traitors and will work with enemies. This is probably the first I've read under the historical medieval Scottish genre that the clan broke in half. It was like a love triangle was the focal point but then at the same time the drama was multifaceted and years in the making. This is probably the only story she has ever written so far that I had a hard time feeling bad for antagonists. I felt the break in relationships as if I were there with them. The usual blood and fighting were there. But seriously, although I'm with the protagonists start to finish, I could definitely understand and feel what they felt at the end, what brought about their decision to end things the way they did. Bravo! This was an awesome story indeed!
This book is phenomenal and I absolutely loved it! Broehain, Ragnall and Aileen all grew up together. Ragnall is the Laird’s son, Broehain the adopted son of Ragnall’s aunt and Aileen is the daughter of the healer and the men’s old teacher. While out capturing bandits Ragnall will save Broehain’s life to which Broehain will pledge a debt. When they return to the castle, there is a feast in their honor and they find that Aileen has grown into a beautiful woman while they were gone. Both men want her but her heart belongs to Broehain. When he finds that Ragnall wants her too, he will use the debt to get Broehain to let him have Aileen. But she will not be swayed and soon Broehain and Aileen are in each other’s arms. Helga, Aileen’s mother, starts to plot with Ragnall to get rid of his father and secure Aileen as his bride as she hungers for power and money. Things will get complicated when Broehain finds out the truth of his birth and who his parents really were. This will lead to more plotting on the part of Ragnall and Helga and Broehain and Aileen will have much to overcome to get their happy ending. It will come, though, with the help of Broehain’s clan and his adopted parents.
I am volunteering my honest review for an ARC copy of this book.
Two loves of her heart......one like a brother and one the love of her heart! The three must travel an unforgettable journey, of one "promise of debt", down a road full of deception, resentment, betrayal and a tangled web woven over the years of an evil obsession straight from hell. The opening chapter of Highlander's Lost Heir will catch your attention and remain in your heart long after the last page is turned. Fiona Faris has outdone herself and is not afraid to write a story that is heart rendering, heart stopping and a romance that brims with tension-building twists, remarkable emotions, characters that are well thought out that you find yourself drawn into their story, great dialogue with setting descriptions and action sequences that are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly. As Broehain and Aileen love awakens for one another their passion flare in this love story that unfolds beautifully with drama, uncertainties, danger, desperation, trials and tribulations, turmoil, and while the suspense builds and tensions escalate with suspenseful twist that will bring secrets to light makes this one outstanding story!
With an Extended Epilogue that will leave you wondering and hoping for the next novel!
Fiona, this is such a great read. I have followed Fiona for a while, Fiona's books just keep getting better.
Two guys, one girl play together as children, forming bonds of friendship. Children become adults, the play gives way to teenage feelings and love. Who will win Aileen for their own, Broehain the adopted son of the laird's sister, or Ragnall the son of the laird.
Broehain is not just the adopted son of the general and the laird's sister, Broehain is also the missing son, of another clan. Broehain has a future to claim as his own, will Aileen go with him. Please read Fiona's authors introduction blurb, it really is a very good read.
Thank you, Fiona, another wonderful book for your delighted followers.
Another very good read from this author, I enjoyed every written word of this story from beginning to end. The plot well thought out, the characters well written both main a supporting the mystery, action, suspense, betrayal, cruelty, humor and most of all the power of love made this a very good interest held story from beginning to end. The only thing I hate when a tease or cliffhanger is left concerning the other characters and there's no way of knowing or finding out if they get their own story or not if it's not a series, not cool at all I'm just saying 🤔😏😏.
This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story is fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable. The story had everything that I crave in a romance set in the Scottish wilds: A swoon-worthy leading man, a bold and brave leading lady, secrets, betrayal, love, lies and a thirst for revenge. This was a breathtaking!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Aileen, Broehain and Ragnall has grown up together. As young adults Aileen and Broehain realized they felt more than friendship. When Ragnall saves Broehain’s life in battle, Broehain pledges he will repay Ragnall someday. That day comes all too soon when Ragnall wants Aileen as his wife. Even though Broehain tries to forget Aileen, he realizes he can’t and tries to overcome the evil person Ragnall has become. Can their love survive when Broehain finds out the truth about his parents? A nail bitter till the end!

Quite a few twists and turns in this delightful story. Growing up together, Aileen, Ragnall and Broehain all became close despite their differences in status. As time passes, Aileen forms an attraction to Broehain, but will their romance be smooth sailing or will circumstances try to keep them apart? An enjoyable story.
But this is more than a love story. It's filled with intrigue, deadly plots, jealousy, greed and murder. Three friends from childhood grow up and a love triangle forms into a dangerous situation when the green eyed monster shows it's ugly head. You'll be rooting for the good guys and hissing the evil ones when you enjoy this exciting trip through the Scottish Highlands.
This was pure enjoyment from the beginning to the end. The bond of two friends that as close as brothers can never be broken, unless it involves a lady. Ragnall was spoiled and acted like a child. I truly enjoyed the story. The storyline was flawlessly written and flowed well. Thank you Fiona for another great book 💗☺️
Highlander’s Lost Heir is the latest of Fiona Faris’ novels I have read. As with others there’s action, adventure and, of course, romance. In this story there’s tyranny, greediness and betrayal as well.
Sexual situations. Not recommended nor intended for those that find these offensive.
Broehain was best friend Ragnall and they both loved Aileen. After being gone for a year together, they found out that Aileen loved Broehain but Raghnall as a friend only. He was furious and told Broehein he owed him so not to tell Aileen he loved her or show it. So Broehain agreed. Well so many things went down. It is a story you must read.
I love all the mystery, adventure, action and the romance. The plot was very interesting and keeps you turning the page. The characters are realistic, funny and charismatic. All in all it makes a very interesting read
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great drama and romance with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
Three young children grow up together, friends forever, until the day they realise that there youngest has grown into a beautiful young women that they both desire. From there the tale becomes twisted and bitterness has soured their friendship. Totally enjoyable. Highly recommended.
I liked this story. The storyline was superb. The characters were believable and interesting. The old tale of greed and selfishness against true love and goodness. There were lots of twist and turns that made the tale very enjoyable.
Another enjoyable tale of a beautiful young woman who has to choose between two childhood friends. Aileen chooses Brohain but Ragnall wants Aileen. The typical eternal triangle. This is an interesting story with various forces of evil at work. It is hard to see who might come out on top!
This was a great novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was adventure and excitement throughout. It was a story of greed and the result of that greed. I recommend this book.
This is a very good story. It has all you want in a highlander story. It was romance, intrigue, clan against clan and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thank you will as well
This was a good book. I read the books on my iPad and I have to do other things so I skip through the long ones. Yes I have had Kindles and both have broke.
The story is really intense from the first page to the last. One man is good and honorable, the other is immature and selfish. Aileen grew up with both men, but has only loved Brohein. The story takes some serious twists and becomes very complicated. It is action-packed and relationships are very complicated along with the complex characters written for this story. It begins with two men vying for the love of a woman. The main thing that impressed me is Aileen always knew who and what she wanted and never strayed from her heart. The major twist in this story will change the course of two clans.
Well this story was a bit slow at first, very nearly did not finish it.But will say it got better as I went on.But not as good as Fiona usually writes.Maybe just me .But still gave it five stars. Was good to read the Extended Epilogue.Fiona is a good storyteller and her books all speak for themselves.
