Eva Rae Thomas #7

Not Dead Yet

Rate this book
Secrets lead to lies and lies to murder in this pulse-pounding mystery with lots of shocking twists.

Has former FBI-profiler Eva Rae Thomas finally gotten herself in deeper than she can handle?

When the body of Nancy Henry is pulled out of the water of Sykes Creek by two local fishermen, they soon realize she’s not dead.

Not yet.

Before she disappeared, Nancy Henry appeared to have everything: a successful husband who adored her, two beautiful children, a modeling career, and a charming home in south Merritt Island with a heart wreath on the door.

Now that she is back five years later, everything has changed. Her husband is with another wife, and her children are almost grown.

Everywhere she turns, people are telling her the same thing: We thought you were dead.

What happened to her?

Nancy claims she doesn’t know where she has been. She remembers nothing after a blow to her head. She doesn’t want to talk to the investigation team lead by former FBI-profiler Eva Rae Thomas, who has agreed to help with this bizarre case.

The sheriff’s office soon wants to give up on the case, but Eva Rae doesn’t quite believe in quitting. She sees fear in Nancy Henry’s eyes that makes her believe she is lying to them, maybe to protect herself.

What secrets is she carrying?

To get to the truth, Eva Rae must get to the bottom of what really happened on that night five years ago when Nancy Henry disappeared from her home in what looked like a home intrusion. But the past isn’t always easy to dig up, especially not when someone wants it to stay hidden and will go to great lengths to make sure it does.

Someone obviously tried to kill Nancy Henry. Will they come back to finish what they started?

Good mystery

Definitely liked the mystery of the missing woman and where she had been for five years but the characters in this were all despicable really. They all made bad choices and it destroyed each and every one of them. Nancy the Missing Mom was pretty evil, but so was Charles the husband. He moved on and was married again and he lied. A lot. But no one won in this story. No one. It was rather depressing. The denouement was just sad. But it kept my attention and I finished it. This isn't a romance or else I would have dnf'd it. The most vile character to me was her boyfriend Matt. They get into a fight, and yes Eva Rae is a little controlling, but he goes out and picks up a shank and brings her home to have sex. Eva Rae shows up and he was a jerk. His hair was messed up so they were doing something. His breathing was shallow and he was mad that she came by. He says nothing happened but I would never trust him again. He did the same thing her first husband did. She believed nothing happened but he came by the house and he said they were done. Then he just shows up at the end saying I love you and she is like okay. So that pretty much cured me of liking him ever again. But I do like this writer's creative mind. And again this is totally a mystery novel and not a romance so it means nothing in the scheme of things. it's just a pet peeve of mine and Matt who I liked from previous books is now dead to me. But I did like the mystery.

Wherever Eva Rae goes, there’s always an intriguing mystery. This one time, it’s even more difficult than usual. There’s no way to stop reading until the end. Don’t miss out once it’s released.

Willow Rose is a master at giving us heart pounding thrillers. Eva Rae is back with an edge of your seat case that her boyfriend, Matt, doesn't want her to take because she is pregnant. This is a well written story with twists that you won't see coming. The ending is very unexpected. I would highly recommend this book. I received it as an ARC and this is my honest review.

This is the seventh book in the Eva Rae Thomas mystery series by Willow Rose.

The books by Willow Rose are always very complex. And this book is no different. A woman is found after thought being dead for five years. Her husband has remarried and her kids have moved on as well both going to college away from home.

Eva Rae is asked to take on the case and even though she is pregnant and she and Matt are not really getting along through most of the book. I really liked Matt when he was introduced. And him being a police officer should make him an expert on how obsessed people get trying to solve their cases. He just doesn’t get how concerned she is.

There is always a parallel story running alongside the main story and I try and figure out how it applies to the now timeline and am always surprised by what Willow Rose manages to pull out of her hat and shock us every time.

Such a good story and a great storyteller. Very impressed with this author’s work.

If you love a good mystery, definitely check this one out. Great new must read book great series too!

This was a good story with a couple of twists and surprises. I had a little trouble with the main character a few times. She seemed a bit shallow and selfish. There was action and mystery, which made it a good read.

Thanks to the author for a digital ARC.

Haunting

This is such a twisted tale, every time you think you know, there is another twist, another hidden strand and more secrets and lies. This book is spine chilling and nightmare inducing but one you cannot put down, I read this in one sitting, disturbed but equally hooked, I read it on Kindle Unlimited.

Every single book I’ve read by Willow Rose is phenomenal.
Not Dead Yet was spectacular.
I’m a huge Eva Rae fan, I love her grit, determination, and even her faults.
This was an amazing plot!
The way Willow Rose intertwines the past with the present, without giving too much away until the cliffhanger was fantastic.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Willow Rose shows once again she can spin a good yarn with some basis of factual occurances. Her Eva Rae series shows promise to be one of her best series ever. Incorporating factual occurrences with her own twists and turns will keep you guessing until the end!

Nancy has been missing for 5 years and she's presumed dead. But when she's pulled from the water by a fisherman and she's still alive, Eve Rae gets called in to investigate.

She's pulled into a web of lies, deception, and intrigue. This is another great read in the Eva Rae series. You do not need to have read the previous books to enjoy this book.

The author writes a great story. The reader is pulled in from the first few pages. I'm glad that I had the time to complete the book in one seating.

There are mature topics included in this book so I suggest it for mature readers.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I just can't anymore.
DNF.
I like her writing, love the Harry series, but Eva Rae is just the worst. I can't handle the idea of how much extra whining she will do when pregnant. And treating Matt terribly, and ignoring her kids, and just all of it. She is a terrible character. Blergh.

The mysteries in this series are exceptional. Including in this book. What dinged the rating for me was the relationship between Matt and Eva Rae. Now that Eva Rae is pregnant with Matt's baby, she would like to get married before the baby arrives. At dinner one night she asks Matt when they are getting married or if he still wants to. He gets pissed that she emasculates him by taking the bull by the horns. Turns out he was going to ask that night and had saved up money for a ring, which was really sweet. Then he turns crazy and starts yelling at her that she basically ruins everything. What a dumb ass baby.

A day or so latter Eva Rae goes to Matt's house and a woman opens the door. Turns out he met her at a bar and brought her home for sex. Eva Rae is hurt because they hadn't broken up or even decided to be on a break. In her mind it's definitely cheating. Matt also has a self righteous moment and tells Eva Rae, in front of the hook up woman, that Eva Rae is fat. Hello.... she is growing a human you asshole. The human you impregnated her with. I can't even tell you how mad this made me. Unforgivable in my opinion.

At this point. I looked ahead to future books to see if she kicks Matt to the curb for good. She does but only temporarily. From skimming through the books, I gather Matt has several relationships or hookups with women and even after the baby is born he introduces the women to his and Eva's daughter as a revolving bedroom situation. And get this... he gets super butt hurt when any guy shows interest in Eva Rae. Although, she never has a relationship with anyone or has sex with them. In the end she gets back with slutty asshole Matt. Such a shame that I have to end the series on this book. I was really enjoying the cases.

A lot of people in reviews have given Eva Rae a hard time for the amount of time she spends away from her family solving crimes and helping other people. They say things like... Eva Rae should prioritize Matt and her children over her own happiness. I think that's a mistake. Everyone is taken care of physically and Eva Rae has a right to enjoy a fulfilled life. Being a mother doesn't stop you from living your life. Men do not have the same tropes trotted out to vilify them for having demanding careers.

I'd do anything for.....

Eva Ray and Matt have had a difficult time blending their families, and with a baby on the way things certainly don't seem to be getting any easier. At least Detective Eva Ray Thomas has agreed to slow down her work schedule and prepare for another trip through motherhood. Who did author, Willow Rose, think would buy into that idea?

When a woman is found near death floating in the river, the department calls for Eva Ray. Why? Nancy has been missing and presumed dead for the past five years. Her husband had returned home to find the house bloodied and Nancy missing. Of course, in their elite, privileged neighborhood, no one had seen or heard anything that evening.

After five years, hubby, Charles has moved on. After Nancy was declared legally dead, to his secretary. The children have both grown up and left home to begin lives on their own. And, just maybe, the marriage hadn't been perfect for quite some time before that evening.

Enter the obvious suspect - the husband! As Nancy's memories return a case builds against Charles who finds himself facing multiple charges. Could be a quick case.... But as murder and attempted murders pike in, Eva Ray begins to question the obvious conclusions.

Can Eva Ray solve the case before her singular focus impacts her relationship with Matt and her family? Or is UT time to back off from murder and settle into preparations to grow the family?

A woman that had been missing and presumed dead is pulled from the lake by a fisherman. Nancy Henry had been missing for five years she has returned to find her husband has remarried to his secretary. Her children have moved out and on with their lives.

Nancy has no memory of that awful night five years ago. But her memory is slowly returning to her. No one knew or heard a thing on that night so long ago. But now five years later witnesses are coming forward. As her memory returns Nancy remembers that her husband tried to kill her on that horrific night without success he kept her locked up.

Before long more bodies start to turn up, someone is taking out the witness. Someone wants what happened on that awful, awful night to stay hidden forever. As more and more of that night comes out so does the truth.

The deeper Eva Rae gets into her investigation as to what happened to Nancy on that awful night and the more people she interviews more and more of the story is revealed and once all the cards are laid out on the table and the more secrets are revealed and you have all the answers it will shock you to the core.

Not Dead Yet was so very intriguing with all its twists and turns that there was no way I could put it down until I had read the last page. I honestly could not turn the pages fast enough with all its suspense I had to know how it all turned out.

I highly recommend Not Dead Yet to mystery and thriller fans. One-click your copy of Not Dead Yet!

This book takes the form of a story told to investigators by a woman who had been missing for 5 years and suddenly appears, floating in Sykes Creek, unconscious, severely injured, nearly dead. Although she is identified as Nancy Henry, she maintains she doesn’t know who she is, what happened that made her disappear or where she’s been for the last five years, but she remembers most of her previous life.

With no contact during the period, her family finally had her declared dead and moved on; her husband remarried and her children were grown up, away at college. Nancy was completely out of the picture, but now wants to get back to her old life.

Eva Rae has a feeling that the story isn’t exactly kosher, so she digs in to find out if Nancy really lost her memory, or if she’s got something to hide. This is another great mystery that pulled me in and kept me engrossed, so I had to read it in one sitting. I tried to follow all the twists and turns, but the ending took me by surprise. Ms. Rose is a master storyteller, and I have thoroughly enjoyed many of her books. I can’t wait to get to the next one! I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion.

Willow Rose Books (Eva Rae Thomas) Reviewed

I chose four stars because, although I really liked the book, I still become a little frustrated at the fact that Eva Rae talks about her dedication to her
kids but doesn't usually show at in her actions. I think would know that the needs of the he children are more important. She's a smart woman and she would begin to address this again. I will be disappointed if she doesn't stay with the commitment she has, in the end of the book, for family. If she and Matt are really sincere about being a family it needs to happen now.
The books are good and I wouldn't keep reading them otherwise. Until now I was a bit irritated at Thomas's continual use of the phrase, 'of course'. However, in the last book, the phrase was not over used. Also I'm previous books there is in conversation a time when the quote is a attributed to the wrong person. That may be something that is hard to catch in proofreading.
Overall I like the books and the characters. They are a fast read that is entertaining. Thank you for authoring your prolific series of books.

Nancy, oh Nancy!!

Nancy Henry has been missing and presumed dead for 5 years due to a house invasion, but now she is back and cannot remember anything. The Sheriff's Office requests former FBI Investigator, Eva Rae Thomas' assistance in investigating the case.

Eva Rae believes that Nancy is too scared to tell her what she remembers. Nancy's husband has remarried and wants her go back to where she has been. Her children don't want her back and there is someone trying to kill her!!

Meanwhile Matt tries to convince Eva Rae not to take the case since she is pregnant and he is worried about her and their baby. But being Eva Rae, she won't listen to him!! They end up fighting and he walks out. Eva Rae refuses to see that she is mostly to blame.

I have read all 6of the "Eva Rae Thomas Series" and loved each one but I really did not like Eva Rae in this book. She was great at solving the case, as she always is, but her attitude toward Matt and the baby really made me not like her very well. I know being 40's and pregnant is NOT a pleasant thought, but really!!

Hopefully, she will get over being such a "control freak" by book 8!!!

NOT DEAD YET by Willow Rose is another story that show the author's style and depth when she writes her mysteries. A woman, Nancy Henry, is pulled out of the water almost dead by 2 fishermen. She claims she cannot remember anything. Eva Rae finds out she has been missing for over 5 years. Everyone, including her husband, thinks she has been kidnapped and murdered. Because of the bump on the back of her head the Drs. say it is possible. After a while the police want to give up on this cold case...they have nothing to go on. Eva Rae thinks she sees fear in Nancy's eyes and she won't give up. Eva Rae is 5 months pregnant and really wants to find out the answers. This will probably be her last case for a while.
There are enough twists, turns and red herrings in this case to make any mystery lover happy. You may think you know the answer but the "whys and hows" will amaze you. You definitely won't go wrong reading it.

Not Dead Yet - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Willow Rose creates another riveting mystery, that has many, many twists and turns, in her new masterpiece, Not Dead Yet.
It has entwining parallel themes, of unhappy relationships, emotional and physical abuse and unwanted pregnancies, that ruin the lives of more than just the lives of the main protagonists.

Who's the mysterious, thrice-failed would-be killer of Nancy Henry?
Will Jade's Mom believe she's pregnant by her own secret lover?
How can Agent Eva-Rae Thomas trust her fourth baby's father, after catching him with another woman?
Can she get to the truth of where Nancy Henry has been for 5 years, while the latter accuses her bigamist husband of being her kidnapper?

The ending is so shockingly unpredictable, that you may just have to read it twice, to believe how Not Dead Yet turns out...get your copy today and see if you can discover the truth before Eva-Rae does!

Eva Rae Thomas was an FBI profiler retired but often helps out on local cases especially as she seems to push her way in only this time she had been asked to take a look at this case as Nancy Henry has re-appeared after 5 years and in that time her husband has remarried and the children all grown up, where has she been as she has no idea, amnesia perhaps? Eva Rae is actually approx 6mth pregnant with one of the sheriff's local officers and he's not that happy for her to keep on working as there are still children from her previous marriage still at home. Whilst trying to piece together the last 5years of Nancy's life where she has been and who with much to the annoyance of her boyfriend, can she find evidence of who killed who and who did the neighbour see that fateful night 5 years ago, exciting read one of Willow Rose best.

Eva Rae Thomas former FBI profiler, is drawn into the case of a woman that disappeared five years previously, and has suddenly reappeared. Nancy Henry claims to have no memory of where she's been but Eva Rae doesn't believe her, and when the local police walk away from the case she continues to investigate.
All of these characters are well written, compelling, realistic and fascinating. However, I love Eva Rae, she is single-minded, relentless, and tenacious in her determination to find out the truth, and reveal the deception she senses in the woman's story. I think this in a fantastic mystery, but there are some graphic descriptions of violence that could trigger some readers. There are enough twists and turns in the plot to make to dizzy, I think this is a must read.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Nancy Henry had it all. Then she went missing. Now five years later she is pulled out of Sykes Creek. Doesn't know who she is or where she's been. Doesn't know what happened to her. Her husband thought she was dead and he had her pronounced legally dead. He is married to someone else.
Eva Rae has seen a very scared look in Nancy's eyes. She wonders if Nancy really has lost her memory or is she pretending she lost it to save herself?
We have mystery, suspense, lies, intrigue, many twists, and turns that will have you turning pages as fast as you can from start to finish. Willow got me with the hook and I couldn't get free until she reeled me in at the end.
Fleshed out characters, well-constructed plot, and very well written. You really need to read this.
I received a copy of the book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.

I thoroughly enjoy this series by Willow Rose. Actually, all of her series but this is the one, of many, that keeps you guessing right up until the end and sometimes beyond, without the cliffhanger that most people I know hate. Where has Nancy been for the last 5 years? Why aren't her children happy to see her? Obviously something big happened 5 years ago. Was it so bad that her family can't be put back together again? Meanwhile, Matt & Eva Rae just can't seem to get it together, love and all. Maybe it'll work out this time? Time will tell and I can't wait to find out. Willow Rose's talent is right up there with the other great mystery writers. All of her subject matter is well researched and explodes from the pages, so much so that all her books are unputdownable. You won't be disappointed. Just enjoy them from start to finish.
