What would you do if the love of your life, who vanished without a trace sixty years ago, walked into the cafe where you're peacefully having tea with your friends, as handsome as ever and calling you his long-lost darling?
If you're Godiva, you throw a custard pie at him.
The course of true love never did run smooth.
Godiva gave up on love ... but love hasn't given up on her.
Basilisk shifter Rigo found and lost his mate when they both were young. After a lifetime of searching for the tough, beautiful, black-haired girl he loved, he's finally found her. He doesn't care that now her hair is white. She's still the same woman he fell in love with... and this time he'll make sure they never part again.
All he needs to do is explain why he disappeared, tell her he can turn into a basilisk, and gain her trust again. After cleaning the custard off his face. And shirt. And car.
It may take driving on a cross-country road trip, solving a sixty-year-old mystery, and defeating an angry dragon and his army of not-exactly-zombies to get Rigo and Godiva back together. But anything worth having is worth fighting for...
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Borrowed From KINDLE UNLIMITED Title: SILVER BASILISK Series: SILVER SHIFTERS #4 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Zoe Chant Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre: #PRN #Basilisk #RedDragonShifter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ •••••••••••••• 💢What an ending to the series Wow I loved it. Or is it the ending? Or the start or a new series? Time will tell, but in the mean time definitely a Must Read! 🔹️Godiva is a writer who came to this small town of Playa del Encanto on the coast of Southern California. Where she started a group called Baker Street Writers’ Workshop. They needed help with an artifact that came up from an earthquake. Even Zombies were walking around so the guardians called some shifters for help. 🔹️ Rigo is a Basilisk a Mythological Shifter he and his son Alejo had a ranch in Kentucky where they rescued horses. He also helped the Guardians at times, so when they asked him to help he was there. ☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read her books.
Rigo and Godiva What pleasure to read with great character and storyline development that kept me totally captivated until the turn of the very last page. Had all my emotions stirred laughing, crying, smiling.
This is an OK shifter romance, with a likable couple. I liked many of the supporting characters, too, and hope we'll get books for more of the women in the writing group. A book for Alejo, Godiva and Rigo's son, would also be great.
I liked Godiva and Rigo, but I wanted more backstory on both of them. I wanted more information on what they were doing all the years that they were separated. I was surprised at how quickly Godiva forgave Rigo. I got that his reason for abandoning her was a good one, but sixty years? That is a lot to forgive.
My favorite part of this story, though, was that both Godiva and Rigo were older, and thought they had lost their chance at love -- but they were wrong, because they were perfect for each other. If you like shifter romances with older couples, this is an excellent choice.
One problem I have with all of Zoe Chant's series is that there is so long between books. Lots of times I have to go back and reread some of the earlier books in a series, simply because it has been so long that I don't remember all the characters. That is frustrating. I know Zoe Chant is actually a group of authors, and one person writes all the books in a series -- but I wish the books in a series could be published closer together.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, or I didn't like the characters. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some problems with it. This rating usually means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, or it was just too unrealistic. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Silver Basilisk is book #4 in Zoe Chant's Silver Shifters series. I love this paranormal romance series which speaks to us shifter fated mate lovers of a "certain age "! The entire four book series is based on the premise that a person can find true love at any age. Silver Basilisk, the final book, explores finding your true love in your eighties.
Zoe Chant is known to bring the heat to her tales of romance but I was curious as to how much steamy sex can there be in your eighties! Even a character like Godiva Hildago, who is an extremely active fireball of a woman at 83, has bad knees, walks with a cane and suffers the aches and pains that most woman experience as they age. There is only so many ways a woman that age can bend! Yet, Zoe Chant handle those obstacles with humor and sensitivity and still managed to convey a love making scene that was hot enough to burn up the sheets! Zoe gives all women who have left their 20's behind long ago, hope that romance is still possible regardless the age! It helps that as usual, Zoe makes it clear that true love goes beyond sex to a deeper soul- binding experience. To quote the Bard," Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind, /And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind" (SIGH). Zoe Chant's creativity brings her loveable characters to life in Silver Basilisk, and even the Grinchy-ist of us is forced to open their hearts to Godiva and Rigo.
But it is never just sexy times and romance in a Zoe Chant novel. There is always an adventure, mystery and swashbuckling action. Silver Basilisk does not disappoint when it comes to exciting fight scenes and whodunit suspense. Mystical creatures and even zombies ( well, zombie - like), join the usual cast of animal shifters to defeat evil once again. There is even a family of squirrel shifters living in the town! Zoe Chant has a delightful imagination and the worlds she creates are well worth suspending reality for a time and immersing yourself totally.
Just too long and too sad a time frame. The age factor of Godiva worked against her. Though I really wanted to finish this series, this last book was unbelievable. Not in the plot with Long Cang but in the age/time factor. As nice as it was to get Godiva’s story, the whole thing just didn’t work for me due to Godiva’s 80+ age factor. It was okay whilst reading, I would forget, until I was reminded of the years apart and how old Godiva was. Looking back to the beginning, Godiva should not have been so old at the start of the series. Overall I found this sad due to circumstances and every time Godiva’s age, or the 60+ years lost and spent apart is mentioned, I wondered why was I reading this. I just kept feeling sad for those lost years Godiva and Rodrigo will never get back. At best they will get a few years before Godiva dies. Too sad due to lost time, lost memories, lost chances to have a bigger family together, and the hardships these two went through when younger. Godiva is Rigo’s mate but the mate bond wasn’t strong enough for him to find her. The fact Rodrigo is a shifter means time doesn’t matter as much to him. Their son is now in his 60’s but he is also a shifter so time is not so important. Having worked with the elderly, I could see the descriptive paper-thin skin, wrinkles and arthritic sore joints being talked about when these two got frisky. Rigo, as a shifter I could understand still being sexually active, though he hadn’t been with any other women but not human Godiva. I just cannot get my mind about this happening though due to my work experience. The interference reason about the letters was just a silly filler excuse for the no contact between Godiva and Alejo. Quite a few errors made it through proofreading and spoilt this book. Read though Kindle Unlimited.
Silver Basilisk is the next instalment in Zoe Chant’s Shifter Shift Series. It is a paranormal romance, with a side of suspense and a happily ever after.
It has been sixty years since Godiva Hidaglo saw the love of her life vanished from her life without a trace. But when he walks into the small café in town, she’s absolutely shocked and livid. Rigo Tzama, a basilisk shifter, has been searching for his mate for decades and now that he has found her he won’t make the same mistakes he made in his youth.
The road to a happily ever after isn’t smooth, especially with an angry red dragon and his zombie-like army standing in the way of Rigo and Godiva solving a sixty year old mystery. But their love and future is worth fighting for- they just have to survive the obstacles.
Even after sixty years the chemistry between Rigo and Godiva was intense but sweet. I love that they were both willing to accept and forgive the mistakes they made that kept them apart. This is a great addition to this series. It can be read as a standalone, but a greater appreciate can be achieved when read in order as previous characters and storylines are mentioned. I love reading this series and can’t wait to read more.
Godiva Hidalgo, a woman in a gang of four friends who'd created the Baker Street Writers' Workshop was the last one to find her one true one. Or was she!?...She gave up on love, a long time ago. The man she was madly in love with for over 6 decades ago left her heartbroken without a warning, so when he walked into the café she and her tree best-friends were enjoying their tea. She did what any women would have done in her position.
Rigo , a Basilik shifter who'd found and lost his true mate when he was a youngster. He'd looked for her for ywars and now that he'd found her again, he would do everything in his power to make it up to her. First she would have to give him a chance to explain why he'd left her.
While trying to find out a long time mystery, they along with their friends had to face off with Long Cang and his army if they wanted a chance at enjoying their HEA. It was great catching up with old characters and meeting new ones.
SILVER BASILIK is the fourth book in Zoe Chant's SILVER SHIFTERS series. It was fast-paced, heartwarming and adventurous. Excellent job by Zoe Chant. Two thumbs up!
****I received a free copy from the author, without any obligation to review.****
Godiva is the only single one in her gang of Four. Now that it's more a group of 7 since the others have found mates. Godiva thinks it might be time for her to move on. Until 'he' shows up. We didn't know much of Godiva's history before know. To say you are in for a surprise is an understatement. Rigo is a mythical shifter. However, he did not grow up surrounded by others. He definitely made some mistakes in the past. I gave him much credit for the blame and not trying to make excuses for his actions. Their reunion was long overdue, but I enjoyed the pace they took. Even though Godiva had years of built up hurt and anger, she was willing to listen and control any rage she was feeling. I was also happy to see Alejo and his attempt to 'matchmake'. A wonderful story of second chances and proof of romance at any age. Like all 'Zoe' books, I loved it! I received an advanced copy and this is my honest opinion.
This has character development and action. Godiva is the oldest of the writers in her small group, and the last to find her mate. Rigo wants to reconnect with the mate he lost a long time ago, but will she ever forgive him? There are a lot of things that happened in the past that affect how each of them react in the present. I like that we got to see both sides of the story. Godiva has a spunky attitude that I love, but Rigo just keeps trying to show her what she means to him.
This story has a fast pace, a hopeful tone and a character oriented storyline with some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and appealing. I am hoping to see more from this series even though the original 4 are now all mated. Read these in order to get the most from this series. Enjoy!
For Godiva, she thought her love life was over and so at the age of 80 she thinks there is nothing left for her. The group of four were all best friends and writers. Bird, Jen, Doris, and Godiva had been friends for so long that they always planned on being around each other until the end. Until one by one Bird, Jen, and Doris met their mate. God if a didn't know anything about shifters. Suddenly the love of her life came back to find her. She had had a son when she was 17 but he had left her. So when Rigo showed up she was furious. But love conquered all. Alejo had found his dad (Rigo) years ago. Now with the help of the ladies and their mates evil was destroyed and the group of eight lived very happily forever. I recommend this book and series to anyone who loves life and definitely loves shifters.
This is another great fun read in the silver shifter series where we l;earn that love has no age limit and what is meant to be will happen even if their is a delay A fun read that once you start you won't want to put down
Sixty years earlier Godiva Hidalgo saw the man she love walk away from her and she has never really gotten over it So when Rigo walks into the cafe you can bet she isn't happy and she lets him no it Now he has to convince her she is it for him and that he has been searching all this time for her also the slight fact that he is a mythological Basilisk shifter He also has to keep her safe from the dragons that are determine to wipe him out Yes adventure are ahead for these two silver haired lovers.
So if the h is 80 her 60 year old kid looks 30.So she now looks like his great great grandmother. I'm guessing the H being a shifter he only looks 50. Since his hair is still jet black but the sides tinged with silver. With her looking 80. And using a cane. She talks about her wrinkles and age. Her kid even talks about how OLD she looks. Her mom left, the H left, her son left....nope. 60 years and nothing. Nope. All I can say is thank you for not letting the H be the only partner she ever had. God knows she deserved something. Surprised the story line didn't basically revert her back to a virgin, pining for the DB H to come back. Never even really apologized, no one ever said I Love You...definitely done with this series now. No mas querida.
When Rigo comes back into her life, Godiva is left fuming at his return and ready to run again. However when she finds out that their son has been living with his father and neither of them had received any of the letters she sent starts her rethinking her life and what she has lost in not searching herself for them. After much soul searching on her part, seeing again the young man she had lost contact with and Rigo. Godiva decides to try again and with the help of her friends the GANG OF FOUR becomes the GANG OF EIGHT. Very delightful and fun story. Totally wraps up the Red Dragon, who Godiva helps to bring down, and just maybe leaves an opening for their son to find his own true mate.
Rajo is a basilisk shifter who abandoned his mate when she was pregnant with his son. Understandable this cause her to trashed him in her mysteries she wrote under a pen name but known locally as Godiva. She reconnected years later, many decades later.
I like this story as well as others in the series about mythical shifters meeting their mates past 50 years or so. Since I am 70 years old this is especially appealing to me. I love the author's vivid imagination and storytelling techniques that takes the reader to another world or reality of shifters.
I would recommend this series. However, I would like another story or two about the next generation of Jen & Niko or Godiva & Rajo's children.
I received an e-ARC of this title, and agreed to share an honest review. My opinions are my own!
I'd read all the previous books in this series, and had been looking forward to finding out how the overarching plot continued as well as reading Godiva's individual story. I was not disappointed! From the first few pages, it's obvious that Godiva and Rigo have history together which has left some scars, but the exact nature of the history isn't clear right away. As I read, I found myself wanting to know more, to the point where I stayed awake later than I ought to have done to get to the story's end. I don't want to put spoilers, but I will say I was very satisfied and happy with the book.
I would give this book all the stars. Godiva is one of my most favorite characters ever written. I love her sense of humor and her feistiness. So glad she got her HEA with Rigo. The scene from the bakery was hilarious. What she did to the car was priceless. This book is worth the read for the humor alone. Sad that it took so long for them to reconnect. I really hate leaving these characters behind because I have so enjoyed all of them and how they get along as well as all the trouble they manage to get into. The fact that they were older and found love was icing on the cake!
Godiva lost the love of her life sixty years ago when he walked out on her. So, when he walks back in while she's at the diner, anger takes over and she throws her food at him. Rigo is a basilisk shifter and now that he's found his mate again, he's not about to let her go.
I love this series and this book is no exception. The series proves that it's never too late for love and this book shows that second chance romance works. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you'll like and others you won't. I was hooked from beginning to end and would love to see more from this series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
I put new in quotation marks because each book of this series became a 'new' favorite to me. I love all the overlapping insights and diverse mythological foundations. I love the writing about writing almost as much as I love the writing about reading. The seamless blending of ancient with retro with modern culminates with a resound success of contemporary story craft easily devoured by all of my senses, making this the most sensual of Zoe Chants series. I truly and deeply hope in my heart of hearts that more delights will be uncovered in this series. Pretty please with a cheery on tip, I beg of you to continue this most fascinating and heartfelt tale!
Omg!! It was awesome!! After all these yrs she'll finally b able 2 find out the truth of she can rain in her temper long enough. Then she got a huge living surprise that she missed 4 many yrs.!! She knew that her life can hopefully b ended from all the hurt can disappear and love can take it's pls finally like it should have been yrs ago. I soooo hope there's another book after this with the fan 4...now to 8
Love this series. The silver shifters keep it real and bring it on as always that life over 50 is just as exciting as can be far more interesting. After all, she's not getting older... She's just getting better and so is he.
The Group of Four is strong for Godiva in this journey to reunite the Mates, find the lost family, solve mystery of the missing mail - which is after all at the heart of the crime, and #1 DEFEAT Cane. So find your favorite comfy chaise, a good munchie and something to sip as you enjoy this good read.
Rigo and Godiva were lovers more than 60 years ago. He left before his child was born because he had a secret. He is a mythic basilisk shifter. Can Godiva forgive him? After all they are mates. Long Cang is still a major problem. Can the Gang of Four now numbering eight conquer their enemy? I loved this series. Lovely shifter mate romance, an exciting story of mythic creatures fighting a ruthless villain and all revolving around characters all over the age of 55. Nice to know there are author's who realize that love can happen at any age.
Another amazing story!! As a 50+ reader, it feels so good to read "silver" stories. And so much of this resonated with me on so many levels, just as the other books did as well. I reaches to a part of me I thought I'd locked up tight to never visit again, I realized I tried to bury that part, but it will not go away. I've endured so much, I hope that someday I can live. I can't really say live again, I've never been there... I love the HEA, I love the flashbacks, and I love the hope and forgiveness.
Silver Basilisk (Silver Shifters Book 4) by Zoe Chant. Godiva’s mate left her 60 years ago when she was pregnant. When he re-appears she is so angry but when she calms down he explains why he left she gradually forgives him. She also gets to meet her son who had found his dad and lives with him. Godiva’s mate, Rigo, is a basilisk shifter who has come to help the local shifters with a rogue shifter. Though a mishap Rigo and Godiva has to fight the rogue shifter by themselves and the rogue shifter makes the mistake of going after Godiva.
When the past catches up with Godiva she is not sure if she is ready for it. After sixty years of being alone Godiva realizes that she needs to rethink everything. Rigo has a lot to make up for when he finds Godiva. Godiva also has to open up her heart and mind to the reality of shifters. The reader takes the journey with Godiva as she learns that love can overcome the hurts of the past.
I do wanted Godiva to get her story and a HEA. Godiva is 80 years old and a mystery writer. Just mysteries, no romance. And I now understand why. She is fiercely loyal to her friends. But she feels like a fifth wheel with all her friends paired up. I really enjoyed learning about Godiva's past. It was a little heartbreaking. There was some action in this book too from an ongoing storyline. And there was a wonderful ending.
I can't thank you enough for Godiva's story. Being "older" myself, these stories mean a great deal to me. (Since I turned 65 the beginning of the month and elderly was being bandied around a great deal, I Googled elderly. It turns out, according to Google 65 is elderly in the US.)
Thank you for weaving all of The Gang of Four into mended, expanded, opened up, love. Thank you for having it on Kindle Unlimited.
Now the fearsome foursome are all mated will there be an offshoot series? The first three had just waited a long time to find their mate. The twist here of being separated for 50 yr after finding each other was certainly different. Zoe is so good at twists & turns. Loved when they realized their was never junk mail in the PO box and what that could mean.
Good book, but not as good as the others in the series
So, I was expecting so much from this book, Godiva always seemed like such an interesting character, and I could tell, she had had to live a very interesting life. I was expecting her mate to arrive and turn her world around, and he did, just not in the way I expected.
Her mate came from her past, they had a big misunderstanding and went their separate ways. At first I was angry at the situation, but his explanation actually made a lot of sense, even what happened years later, well, I get it, but the sixty years without being able to find each other? That I don't get, they had a chance, and I don't buy the they tried but couldn't.
I guess I'm a little disappointed, it's like they didn't try hard enough, and there were a few things I just don't buy, while the why I had to leave makes sense, the I couldn't find it not so much. All in all, my least favorite book in the series, and I really hope we get another one, because I feel like not everything was explained at the end, there are a few loose ends that I really need to know about.
This whole series was a great way to spend a few days. It has romantic relationships with the action of fierce fighting, especially in this last book. The only thing I want to know is what happens with their children. Please write a book about their children. Like what you did with the firefighter series based in England. It's a great series and this one could definitely be the same. Great work on a great story!
