CASE APPROACH TO COUNSELING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY, Eighth Edition, vividly illustrates how major counseling approaches work with a single client, Ruth. Dr. Corey provides solid examples of psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist, and postmodern theories in action. Dr. Corey applies each therapeutic approach to a single client, illustrating how the various theories work and helping you see exactly how the techniques differ. Well-respected and widely recognized practitioners serve as guest commentators, offering their unique perspectives on Ruth's case. Commentators include founders of some of the therapies, such as William Glasser for choice theory and reality therapy, Arnold Lazarus for multimodal therapy, and Albert Ellis for rational emotive behavior therapy.
Gerald Corey is an author, consultant, counselor, and educator. He is a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Counseling at the University of Holy Cross.
This little book is the companion book to the Theory and Practice of Counseling Techniques and Psychotherapy book. It actually gives you practice cases to work on, which was very helpful in helping you to learn how to apply the different psychological theories. I have liked all of Gerald Corey's textbooks, and this one was no exception.
Dense reading, heavy going. The concept of examining one case from many different theoretical and treatment perspectives is great, but the delivery is turgid
This was a helpful resource to use in conjunction with Corey's book on the theories of counseling and psychotherapy because it gave actual examples of the therapy. Some chapters were better than others, but it was nice to have a variety of authors writing from their theoretical perspective.
