A little pyromania can go a long way…

The Company of Light had already made my shit list before they kidnapped one of my monstrous lovers. Now? I’m ready to send the whole lot of them up in flames. Especially when it turns out they may have damaged my demon sweetheart beyond repair.

Trouble is, those flames aren’t playing nice. After its taste of freedom, my inner fire seems intent on having a full-on scorch party, and that includes burning me up while I’m burning down the baddies.

If I’m going to get a handle on the dangerous power within me, I need to understand where it—and I—came from. But finding the answers I’m searching for could be worse than staying in the dark.

My enemies are multiplying by the minute, and the worst of them… might be standing right beside me.

Oh Snap!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳😬🤩🤓🥺

The heroine: Sorsha - she is getting closer to all of the men she is working with to take down “The Company”, a para-military group that is bent on torturing, killing and experimenting on shadow monsters in the hopes of taking their powers away. Sorsha still doesn‘ t know exactly what she is, but she grew up thinking she was a human and now that she has powers, she is working at getting a handle on them so she can use them to defend herself and her men.

The Heroes: Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Ruse is the incubus who is afraid of falling for Sorsha because the one time he fell for a someone, the woman only wanted him for one thing. Snap is a devourer and he recently had to use his main power and fears that it could be dangerous to Sorsha and the others. Thorn is a warrior angel and lives to fight and protect everyone working with them, especially Sorsha. Omen is a shapeshifter and is the leader of the group who has been working with Sorsha to harness her powers.

The Story: One of the guys has disappeared and the group is even more determined to take down The Company of Light. Sorsha is starting to like Omen a bit more as well. They had a very contentious relationship from the start but she recently found that he does actually care more about those in his charge than she originally thought.

I love all the characters in this series. There are many and they are all fun and the shadow creatures have some awesome powers. From the four Heroes, to the troll, the centaur shifter, unicorn shifter, basilisk, vampire, imp, and especially Sorsha’s miniature dragon named Pickle whom she freed from a collector who had clipped his wings.

This book, like the first two was told in multiple points of view and narrated by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen. I enjoyed the narration and this was a great series to listen to. I really like both of their voices and that really makes a difference in an audiobook. I can’t tell you how many books I have put back on the shelf because there is only one narrator or the narrators have voices that I just can’t listen to.

I also really liked how Sorsha relayed a great summary of the previous books at the beginning of this book and it was integrated into the story very well. I personally didn’t need it because I am binging the series over a weekend. However, I know how often I don’t get to read all the books in a series at the same time and wish there would be a good summary like this one had. So many authors take for granted that the readers have a much better memory than I do and just start each book in a series without any background.

Wow that was quite an ending. So glad I can dive into the next one because this was quite a cliffy. The action continued in this book but wow the final quarter just had bombs dropping everywhere. Really curious now that so much is coming to a head how it will end and most importantly how the hell they’ll find their way to a HEA. Personally I’m still waiting for Pickle to have his moment. I don’t know why but I really hope he does something that blows their minds and maybe even saves the day. Whether he shifts into a humongous dragon or just pops out of her bag at the right time, I’m ready for him to shine 😂

This book definitely picked up from the last one. There was more romance, more information revealed about Sorsha's past, and the group wreaked more havoc on The Company. I felt like this was faster paced and the ending left me wanting to know how this will all end.

I really enjoy Sorsha's relationship with the guys so I was happy to have more steamy scenes in this book. She and Omen also grew a bit closer and he wasn't such a jerk. I'm really hoping there will be a group scene in the last book, if not I'll be disappointed. At least we've been getting Snap/Ruse/Sorsha, which is pretty great.

The plot had a couple reveals, one I originally had thought but we were mislead so I let the theory go. Now I have more questions that need answers by the end of this series. I'm looking forward to a big battle and seeing The Company destroyed for good!

Well hot damn, this book was definitely better than the first two. I almost, ALMOST was so peeved at the ending of this book. I really thought it'd be easy as 1, 2, 3 for these characters to get through what they've been working towards for three books. But then a wrench was thrown in those plans and I'm happy it was. Otherwise I'd have written this series off.

The story line of this series continues in this book. The crew is still trying to foil the plans of the Company of Light. This book definitely rides the action wave much better than the first two. And for that I was ecstatic. The first two books kind of dragged on and even though the premise of the story was intriguing the pace of the story was boring me.

This book ended on a huge cliffhanger and I'm glad I can jump right into the next one. This book ending and starting the next one is definitely the most excited I've been to continue the series so far. I can't wait to see what's in store for these guys. :)

The adventure continues for Sorsha and her Shadowkind friends as they try to stop the Company of Light from killing all of Shadowkind in existence. While they try to find allies to go against a multinational conglomerate of evil, they also have to work on balancing their relationships with their mission.

This book is a fabulous continuation of the series. I'm not going to say a lot, because there are a lot of revelations in the novel (especially towards the end), but just when you think you've figured it out, Chase turns everything on its head and takes the story in a new direction. I can't wait to find out how the story ends.

Tentative 4 stars... but the ending pissed me off and has the potential to ruin the series. Frankly, Omen has hovered on the verge of ruining the series since he became a character in book 2, but I thought we were mostly past that. Apparently not...

The story continues from book 2, so a new reader really needs to start with book 1, or will be lost in the story. This book moved so slowly, I lost interest several times. Overall, I really wanted to quit the book, but forced myself to continue & finish, though I had to take many breaks to do it. This book is very emotionally heavy, & definitely left me feeling emotionally drained when I was done, it was kind of a bad book hang-over for me. The plot did continue along the same vein as 1 & 2, so it fits the series. Though I felt like the normal progression was too slow, it felt more like 3 steps back with 1 step forward- all things considered. Snap is rescued (& back to himself towards the end of this book), Thorn & Ruse are great, all 3 guys have their own merit in the RH & I liked all 3. But Omen (the 4th guy) leaves a lot to be desired for the RH. Maybe he will be a better addition in the final book, but right now, I can't fathom him in the mix. Since there is only 1 book left to the series, I'll read it when it comes out, since I've already read 3 of the 4. But had there been more than 1 book left, I think I would have quit the series after this one.

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

Dusk Avenger is the third book in the Flirting with Monsters series and it was amazing, I knew it would be Eva is one of my favorite reverse harem authors.

The fight with the Company of Light has just begun and Sorsha along with some of her favorite monsters are right in the thick of it. Sorsha is sassy, brave, has a good head for strategy, smart, funny, and determined to help shadowkind but there are things about her past that she doesn't know and it's time she finds out. While on the hunt for Snap and trying to destroy the Company of Light Sorsha puts on her best detective hat and pulls together not only clues about her past but about the Company of Light as well.

Right beside her are the guys, and while they may be monsters to some, they are in actuality very loyal, kind, determined, and caring especially towards Sorsha. I love how she brings out such good things in them and is caring and devoted to them while they bring out a softer side to Sorsha, they show their devotion by caring for her, physically and emotionally. Before this book, Snap was my absolute favorite now I love them all so equally. Ruse with his guarded heart, Thorn and his protectiveness, Snap with his wonder and awe, and Omen with his need to be responsible for everyone. I love all the guys (even Omen is growing on me) and I love how they are with her, I just hope that somehow they get their HEA.

Like with all Eva books the story was amazing and it flew by, I was highly entertained from beginning to end. Dusk Avenger was fantastic, Sorsha is working on her powers, lots of steamy scenes, the gang is getting further with their plan to stop the Company of Light, loads of daring action, some of Sorsha's past is unearthed, more about the showdowkind's world is revealed and a few plot twists that just shocked me to no end. Dusk Avenger ended on a wicked cliffhanger, I can't wait to get by hands on the next book.

Filled with action and romantic encounters with the shadowkind. Sorsha is still out to destroy the Company of Light, but mostly she wants to find and save Snap. She feels responsible for his capture, believing she didn't do enough to reassure him that his devourer form didn't change the way she feels about him. The crew heads to Chicago first and then to Austin where they will make some discoveries about Sorsha's past. Sorsha's power over fire continues to grow and she worries that sometimes it controls her instead of her controlling it. Some new allies will join the group during their journey.

Things are really going to change at the end of the book. An unexpected foe will surface and a trusted member of the group will change his opinion of Sorsha. Can you say "cliffhanger"? Bah.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Saorsa has teamed up with monsters (who are now her lovers) because an organisation called the Company of Light were already on her list to be destroyed have now scaled up that list after they may have damaged one of her demon sweethearts beyond repair - so they are definitely overdue some flame action. However, she needs to be careful as the inner fire she only recently discovered is intent on burning her up at the same time as burning the baddies - somehow she needs to learn some control of this skill before she destroys herself and everything/everyone she loves. So she determines to understand where both it and herself came from - however, will those answers end up being even more dangerous than not knowing in the first place? Enemies are multiplying by the minute and for all Saorsa knows the worst of them could be standing right next to her.

OMG - so much happened in this instalment of the series. It was great to find out a bit more about where Saorsa came from and what her new power was like although I fear that is going to open a whole new set of problems for her. The drama was definitely ratcheting up as the story unfolded further and it definitely ended on a series of cliffhangers that just made me want to scream as I finished the last page of this book in the series. Well written and very easy to feel and empathise with the thoughts and emotions felt by the characters. I definitely enjoyed some of the dramatic moments in this story. Contains some sexual content.

Wow, I didn't expect that. I truly have been lost in this world. The book reads so well I felt like I was there. It's even better when it got steamy.
The fight to be who they are. Accept who they are. And embrace how they feel. All things that run strongly in this book.
Love it, and the steamy parts are always more hot with caresses of vulnerability that make the smut moments even hotter. Man, I want that! I want my own monster...or four.
Oh, and the twists... I didn't see that coming!

Love this book and series

I am in love with snap and have claimed him for myself... just thought I would put that out there first 😉
I think this is my favorite series yet from Eva Chase and that is saying something. Just when Sorscha thinks she has things figured out and knows what is going on...bam something happens to mess with all of her plans, and her history even more than what she thought from before. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I absolutely love listening to this book...they just do such an amazing job

I fucking hate omen. He shouldn't have the power to make any decisions. Fuck if he's literally on a leash, it's still her life. Damn I already hated Omen, but he outdid himself. He gave her a hell of a punch... and I know he'll be forgiven in the next book because unfortunately he's one of the romantic interests. Sorry, there is no forgiveness for what he did here. Does not exist. He's a fucking disgusting aggressor. Even after closer intimacy with her, he refuses to think about her well-being even once.

I hate Omen and I hate Shoeshe (or the fuck her name is) for demeaning herself so much for this trash man. She doesn't have a drop of pride. It's so embarrassing to read. The moment they freed this garbage from the Omen, Mrs. Chase destroyed her own book.

-----------

Eu odeio Omen.

Like I said in my first review from the first book . I bought the audible full series so im sticking with it to fall to sleep to. I don't like wasting my credits and I can pop this on and fall to sleep as easily as a meditation would send me off. Even though the male voices on audible are terrible.espically for the guardian warrior character who's name I can't even remember. I honestly can only rember snap (innocent one) who came across that the FMC took advantage of and omen (leader guy) couldn't even tell you how many are in her little harem I think 4 ?? Some parts of the book are good and the story gets interesting. But there seems to be a lot of nothingness happening. I don't know what it is that's wrong I don't know if it's the FMC that I can't get along with or that the books are so dragged out. I can't put my finger on what's lacking. Maybe take out the limited spice scenes and call it YA because i feel like i might of enjoyed this in my very early teens. The spice scene may as well be fade to black anyway as they are lacking detail and heat.
I feel like I'm missing something with looking at the other reviews.

honestly I'm getting sick of this book. Sorsha is annoying and sometimes it feels like she's cheating on these poor guys. The story is getting way too convoluted. and the plot is getting crazy and not in a fun way. for three bucks they have been fighting the company of light and yet they take them down with a phone call. but actually they don't because one of omens old friends is actually in charge and she just now decided to let him know she still alive. also plot twist sorsha is the most powerful being on the planet. and everyone is after her, because of course they are. this book accomplished literally nothing. if anything it has taken us backwards considering omen attacks her on the last page. The first two books were OK and I was crossing my fingers that this one would be good but it's not. honestly at this point I would feel bad recommending this series to my friends. I have hope for the fourth but not a lot. The author is going to have to make a five-star story in the last book for me to have enjoyed this series. also off-topic but I absolutely hated the real life references like my little pony and tiger king and other things that really took me out of the book.

So they need to find allies to fight with them.

All the while investigating Sorcha's past and the murders of her parents and Luna.

***

Notes:

❗ Small spoilers ahead❗

The guys:

🔸Thorn

The winged warrior.
Silent, strong and tortured type.
Brutal strength and used to think tactically.
A gentleman, a bit old fashioned even when speaking (all that "m'lady", oh my).

🔸Ruse

The incubus.
He can seduce, get others to do what he wants, and even manipulate their minds just by talking to them.
He feeds from se*ual energy(?) that they can only obtain in the mortal world so he is the one that knows more about the human realm out of the three.
But when feelings start to emerge he starts to recoil a bit, he is just used to being given attention for se*ual interactions.
He is the one that pays attention and makes sure everyone is alright and have everything they need.

🔸Snap

The sweet, innocent devourer scared of his own power.
He is new to the human world so everything is an experience. Very puppy like excitement.
New to relationships as well.
And quite protective and caring.

🔸Omen

The hellhound.
The boss.
With a fury beneath an icy cold control and as*holish attitude.
He was captured by human hunters that run laboratories and are investigating shadowkind and want to eradicate them.
Initially he really doesn't want to work with Sorcha and he is always a bit brutish and cold with her.

The plot

The story is interesting but it lacks a connection.
It all seemed a bit bland. As if everything is witnessed at a distance and it all ends up going the right way even though it could have gone wrong.

The investigation is all very messy and lucky at the same time.

This particular book was a bit all over the place and inconsistent.
It's all too much with a dull delivery.
For example:

1. Snap and his memory
He loses some of his recent memories but they all (him included) act like he doesn't know his powers nor wasn't traumatized by them which in the past he was conscious of what he could do (even if he hadn't done it while in the human world) and was scared of himself.

2. Sorcha and her powers
It was all going so well...
But she needs to be special and it all goes great.
But it was all too quiet so she needs to start having problems with her powers so they can have even more drama.

3. The Company
First they act in one city, then more than 1, then the country, then all over the world

4. Sorcha's drama with the Fund
Because there is no one else they can ask for help?!

5. Sorcha's drama with her romantic interests.
She is quite selfish and self-centred if we really think about it.
She is interested in more than one, okay.
But there is never a full conversation with all of them making sure they are okay with her getting serious with all of them.
Even when she admits she loves one of them she continues to pursue the 4th guy without making sure that is okay with the others.
Her avoiding Snap because he lost his memories... Not very friend like.
And more situations for sure.

6. Sorcha's family murders and her past
Just more drama and another investigation and finding answers without a proper investigation and quite easily.

5. Omen and his past/deal
Especially when he disappears... So they are fighting against a group of people that aims to abduct shadowkind and imprison them. So when he disappears and when they don't find him immediately, obviously they have to continue with their plan and travel. He will meet them there, for sure. Come on!! Really?? Real friends here!
And obviously they need more drama, so let's add a deal for freedom to the mix.

4. Sorcha and what she is
Quite predictable and more drama.
Especially after the romance started going somewhere.
So they obviously need to face an impossible choice.

Quite disappointed...

As always my respect to the author.

Hmmm

It was alright. I found some scenes were very active with fighting and protecting to quick and others just a mere passing. The climax wasn’t really a climax like the previous 2 books. It was literally a paragraph.
It felt obvious to me that the “Ruby” they were looking for was either Sorsha or her mother. The understanding was, this being is centuries years old, when in reality, the Higher Up Shadowkind, (the shadowkind Councillors of a sort) explained to Omen that Ruby was the infant of a rare shadowkind that can have children with humans. They found out her mother was an Ifrit. A species of Fae I beleive that have fire powers. Which makes sense since she has a fire ability. They named the parents and it turns out I was right. She’s the Ruby they were looking for. They want to exterminate her. As she poses a threat to everyone. Can destroy both their worlds, earth and their shadow world.
My heart sunk when I was reading about Snap after they found him. Lost his memories so he didn’t remember any of them but he gained them back about halfway in. They took down a few Compounds of the Company of the Light. Even managed to speak to the head person of the entire company of the light who was back in Europe. Their last hatched plan was a few pages. The build up of how bad and dangerous the Company of the Light was built up so much, that I was let down with how easy and quick the take down was. One of Omens past comrades he was punishing himself for losing and not being there when she needed it then died, had called at the end. She is the true leader, and she hunts to purge all shadowkind that didn’t “deserve” to be there. She undid their work, and told Omen to meet them at her dream place.
Then Omen says they need to deal with Sorsha then punches her in the head. Lights out, the end. His turnaround personality just confuses me. Is this his way of protecting her? By punching the female mortal out? She only bleeds shadows when her power is activated. So she was completely mortal and can hurt as a mortal would. He could have given her a concussion since he’s a FREAKING HELLHOUND! Yeah, I think Eva was just trying to turn around and give us a cliffhanger since they took down the bad guys by using Ruse’s powers of compulsion on them, with little to no issues. One chapter size and it was done. So she had to make it exciting to keep the readers guessing. I’m assuming the start of the next book, Omen is described as trying to “protect” her, his way. There will be no thoughts as to the potential physical damage a regular human mortal body could receive from a HellHound shadowkind punch to the head.

I kinda feel like this was a mishmash story. Some important scenes that needed more elaboration were too quick to end, and other scenes were described on and on which got boring. Definetly not a fav book of mine. I’m reading the last one because I’ve already put to many hours in, diving into the issues they face, and I need to read they finally get their happy ending. I shoulda stopped at book 2 though.

This series just keeps on getting better, and what a cliffhanger!! I really enjoyed the way everything fell together towards the end, and then abruptly fell apart lol

As always, our main characters continue to be charming and devious. Our team quickly rescues Snap only to find that the Company of Light is much larger than they anticipated. On top of that, Snap’s trauma caused him to “devour” himself, most of his memories are gone. The team works together to try to bring him back, but ultimately it’s Sorsha’s confession of love that brings him back. This whole scene and build up to it was done beautifully, I teared up when Snap and Sorsha were sitting by the water trying to figure things out and finally started to remember who she was. It was perfect omg

While the team is on their way to San Francisco to take down the higher up leader of the Company of Light, it becomes clear that Sorsha isn’t a regular mortal. Omen and Sorsha have gotten closer so he does his best to help her control her fire powers, but it’s not enough and they need answers on her last. Her aunt Luna did a great job covering up the perfect details needed to conceal the fact that Sorsha is actually Ruby, the rogue and ultra powerful shadowkind that they were trying to recruit. Sadly, the Ancient Ones called on Omen for one last favor: to find this Ruby so she can be dealt with. Poor Sorsha now has to sort out all of these fresh emotions and new revelations about her past: her mortal father and Shadowkind mother went out of their way to get pregnant and birth Sorsha, the ancient ones knew of this and sent their minions out to kill Sorsha and her parents. The powers Sorsha possess are a threat to all mortal and shadowkind as the ancient ones believe she will eventually lose control and destroy everything.

AND on top of everything else, the team works their ass off to take down the entirety of the Company of Light while Omen was missing. They were actually successful until it is revealed that Omen’s thought-to-be-dead old partner in crime is actually still alive and is the one actually in control of the Company of Light, say what????

Our team of thieves and monsters are in for quite the final ride it seems, but I am so ready to see how their story ends!

I absolutely devoured Book 3 of Eva Chase’s Flirting with Monsters series! I was dying after leaving where Book 2 ended and Book 3 did not disappoint. We get some answers/more information in this book and still have some things left for book 4, making me immediately downloading Book 4 to listen to (what I am finishing up right now haha). Amazing job yet again, can’t wait to listen to more of Eva’s stories ❤️

For the story, I am not going to give anything away but I was heartbroken with Snap but the resolution totally had me getting teary-eyed while taking a walk around my neighborhood, not embarrassing or anything hahaha. The developments with Sorscha and her monsters really upped the ante in this one. I was so happy something finally happened with two of them (finally giving in and the other expressing his feelings). It was amazing and I couldn’t get enough of it. In terms of the storyline/plot, there were definitely twists and turns I didnt see coming. I knew things couldn’t be resolved so quickly when there was another book haha. I was shocked by the development with Omen, but it adds to more layers in the plot. Again, not going to give it away, but he is gonna have some tough decisions to make. And the bomb dropped at the end...wow!

Narrator was stellar as always. No complaints from, no suggestions for improvement. These 2 really bring these characters to life, especially with the depth Aiden adds to his inflections and Vanessa with her snark and wit haha. Love this dynamic duo, will always listen to their narrations 🥰

If you loved books 1 and 2, you are gonna LOVE book 3 and what I have listened to in book 4 haha. This supernatural/paranormal RH series is a great mix of romance and action/adventure. The plot is not driven by the romance; its a great balance and one of my favorite series of audiobooks of 2020!

In this book we see Sorcha realizing that there really is something about her that is not completely normal and she is not completely mortal. Omen is pushing her, and pushing pretty hard, to try to have her learn and get control of her powers. To me, he is still a jerk. I know that they are supposed to have a relationship that is based on snark and that that is their way of flirting, but he still bothers me. To see him physically fighting with her while trying to anger her enough to make her fire come out is just wrong. I was really surprised that one of the guys didn't step in and say something. I know she is tough, but her talents aren't in physical fighting. She is a thief. It was hard to read for me. I still kept thinking, "Man, isn't she sore?" because she gets pounded on and then it is never mentioned again. Like, being kicked and hit DOES hurt. It does leave you sore. But, I guess if she was shot and had a broken wrist (in the prior books) and still was running around town fighting for her life, she just has a high pain tolerance. That's it, right?

This book ends in a cliffhanger and it is not a good one. Unfortunately, I'm too invested to not start the next book immediately. I really hope that this was a dream and what I think just happened did NOT really happen. Seriously.......

A lot less action in this book. the team is starting to work as a unit. They have a lead on where Snap can be and they are traveling to get there. Omen is starting to listen to the people around him in stead of just dictating, Ruse FINALLY gets his head out of his butt about his feelings for Sorsha and the group keeps picking up weird allies along the way.

this book was definitely more political compared to the last 2. i liked that. a good battle scene is always awesome but its cool to see that things can get accomplished with minimal blood shed.

Poor Snap. i just love him so much. he is like this protective golden retriever teddy bear (i know im mixing my metaphors but just one doesn't do him justice). His childlike joy surrounding all mortal things always puts a smile on my face. How ever he can be fiercely protective of Sorsha and its so endearing.

Sorsha is struggling to control her powers. which is a complete 180 then how she has been the last 2 books and we finally get some answers in regards to what she is and her past.

i will say the "ending" to the Company of light did seem rather uneventful, but I'm sure the ending to the series will make up for that.

First off - Dusk Avenger is book 3 of the flirting with monsters series. These books are so good, you seriously want to read them in order.

This story is plain amazing. It soars higher than I thought possible, and I already was a huge fan of Eva's before reading this story. We get to see Sorsha's relationship with each guy grow and develop - it was more than I could have hoped for.

I am not going to go into too much detail- trust me DO NOT read a full plotline. There are so many great twists and turns. You will want to see it unfold for yourself.

If you read Eva's Rosebourne college series, similar unsolved mysteries in this one - how to bring down the company of light, how to get Snap back, how does Sorsha have powers. The rabbit hole got so much larger and deeper.

The book keeps giving right up to the last word. I pray I do not have a long wait for book 4. This is a series I will be buying the complete set of so I can read it over and over.

I received an advanced copy of this story for an honest review.
