Chasing Prince Charming #1

Su-Lin's Super Awesome Casual Dating Plan

Rate this book
I probably shouldn’t spend so much time thinking about my best friend naked, even if he is my date.

Reality show star and YouTube sock-puppeteer Su-Lin Liu is madly in love with her best friend and business partner, fellow YouTuber Brendan Pike. From his pink hair to his genius at writing dirty sock jokes, Brendan is perfect for her in every way—except that he’s still reeling from a nasty divorce and doesn’t know if he’ll ever be ready for a serious relationship again.

Su-Lin isn’t about to give up, so she concocts a multi-step plan to get him past his anxiety and her past the friend-zone. At a YouTube convention, she and Brendan take turns setting each other up on dates with other people, all while “casually” dating each other. Su-Lin is willing to deal with anything—her jealousy, his panic attacks, their awkward games of Twister, and even the busty ventriloquist with her eye on Brendan—if it means her plan succeeds. But when one drunken night goes a little too far, Su-Lin knows she can’t keep pretending to be casual when her feelings are anything but.

Su-Lin has always had faith in her crazy plans, but she fears this one may only end in a broken heart.

Su-Lin’s Super Awesome Casual Dating Plan is a full-length, standalone romantic comedy. It features R-rated sexual content and swearing, no cliff hanger, no cheating, and a swoon-worthy happily ever after.

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

Su-Lin is a quirky woman. She loves bubbles, Big Gulps, her Chucks, sock puppets and her best friend Brendan. She has her own successful YouTube channel featuring her sock puppets.

The pink haired Brendan is also her business partner. He suffers from social anxiety and panic disorders stemming from childhood abuse coupled with crippling emotional abuse from his ex wife. The anxiety he suffers could be a trigger for some so be warned. This story does not take the anxiety he suffers lightly. It is treated with the respect and seriousness it deserves.

Su-Lin is in love with Brendan. He too has feelings for her but even thinking about the word 'girlfriend' launches him into a full blown panic attack. Su-Lin comes up with a brilliant plan. They will date casually, seeing other people so Brendan wouldn't feel the pressure around Su-Lin. He can also ease back into dating. Great plan right? Maybe not. When they see the other with a date, jealousy ensues.

Su-Lin's background has given her relationship issues and with Brendan's issues it makes for a very bumpy road for this couple. Every time they start to come together, they are pulled apart by others or even worse, their own fears. My heart ached for this couple but it does end on a happily ever after.

This is not a depressing story. The characters are flawed but unique and fun. They accept each other's flaws and provide confidence when the other is lacking. The story pulled me into caring for Su-Lin and Brendan and had me smiling at their antics. I also loved that songs played a part in the romance. I mean who can keep a straight face at The Sock Wives of Los Angeles, Socktor Who, or Sock and Order?

Although this is a hillarious book the main lesson I took from it that things we imagine are right or that other people think or feel are most probably wrong because we are seeing everything through our own eyes and beliefs and that is the case in this story. The two main characters create an impossible way to surpass their difficulties and they only make it worse. Lack of communication and I mean, real communication - eye to eye - kills everything, love, family life, partnerships, marriages, friendships.... Although the books has some really funny steamy and non steamy parts and is written in the language used by mostly young people it also deals with other very strong themes which are abuse and mental illness issues in a funny but still serious way.
This book is a very enjoyable reading as the whole series has been so far.

Su-Lin's Super Awkward Casual Dating Plan is the 10th book of The Extra Series. This book is a sweet romantic story with a strong undertone of being authentic and vulnerable. Su-Lin and Brendan are a formidable team who are dedicated artists to their YouTube channel, but there's sexual chemistry, unspoken pasts that lure behind the scenes. The character of Su-Lin quickly grew on me; a quirky, hilarious and beautiful woman who tries to spread laughter even when things don't go to plan. Brendan is a warrior who is courageous by putting one foot of the other every single day. Janci and Megan have woven such a heartfelt story with memorable supporting characters such as Emily, Warren, Jane and Jason. The different and joint POV's work very well, and the ending is meaningful and satisfying. A 4 star read!

A big thank you to Megan Walker for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

Quirky heroine. Check.
Lovable awkward hero. Check.
Best friends-to-lovers. Check.
Feel good story. Check.

Su-Lin and Brendan’s story is one of those stories that you just wish they were confident enough to sit down and talk about their feelings, but you relate to what they are feeling so much that you see why they just CAN’T (and you want the story to go on longer anyway). I love that both characters were insecure for different reasons, were best friends first who just wanted the best for each other and were willing to do whatever it took to help each other be better. I also liked that we get a peek into what social anxiety feels like.

"I didn't know how to be any body else, and I didn't think I could be happy trying."

Once again Janci and Megan did it again. I've fallen head over heals in love with characters who are perfectly imperfect, and stumbled through life, doing their best, and messing up masterfully, only to finally find it in them to be vulnerable and raw,and risk it all. And when they do, , well,... you'll have to see for yourself.

I LOVE this series! I LOVE the Megan Walker and Janci Patterson collaboration. And oh, how my overly emotional, hopelessly romantic heart loves love, in all it's shapes, sizes, textures, hues, and sounds.

Can't wait to start the next book. I hope Megan and Janci never stop writing together.

Dirty sock puppets all the way!!!

Su-Lin's Super Awesome Casual Dating Plan is the tenth book in The Extra Series and it is another laugh out loud story. The writing is spot on, the story-line is completely engrossing and the characters will keep you entertained from start to finish. Su-Lin and Brendan are really perfect together but can they make a successful transition from friends and business partners (I mean who wouldn't laugh at dirty sock puppets!) to dating and then to lovers and more. The roads they travel along the way are fraught with funny and charming encounters but also some difficult situations to get over and fears that must be conquered.
I loved this story and it is a fantastic addition to The Extra Series. RECOMMENDED READ

This is a stand alone book, although it is part of a series. You don't need to read the nine preceding books, but you will want to! And for those who follow this series, Fong's Break Up Tub makes a cameo appearance! I wish I lived down the street from Fong's!

This is a fun fast moving story about two people with quirks who work their way through the "friend zone" to relationship status. These two YouTube sensations have interesting lives and that makes for a fun read. I laughed, then cheered when they worked to connect. I also loved the other characters in the story.
It is well written and well edited.

I did receive a free copy, but this in no way affected my review of the book.

I received this book as an ARC for my honest review. Such a cute book. It might very well be the first book that I had more in common in with both characters. Su-Lin is in love with her best friend and decides that maybe if she sets him up with others that he will actually realize that he’s in love with her. But even dealing with everything she, at times, let’s jealous get the best of her. The ending was utter perfection! I hope that we get to see Su-Lin and Brendon in the future. P.S. This book was FIRE! There are some serious hot, drool worthy scenes. If you are looking for a not really casual dating book this is it!

At the first few chapters, I was finding Su Lin to be a bit too perky it was almost annoying but as the book progressed along, her characted started to have some depth. It was a fun read with some serious issues thrown along the way. It highlights the imporrance of trust and communication in a relationship in order for it to work.

I was lucky enough to be an Arc reader for this book. It's about best friends becoming more to each other and taking their path from friends to lover's, overcoming anxiety and panic attacks on taking this next step after being hurt by a cheating ex. I've got to say I'm glad I read this, it's uplifting and witty and made me smile at the antics these two get up to. Thank you Megan Walker and Jaci Patterson for the opportunity to have a private viewing before releasing I totally enjoyed this book.

Awesome book, another great read. I love how you incorporate characters from the other books in the series, but if you haven’t read any of the others it all still makes sense. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is another book in the Extra Series, although can be read as a stand alone. I have enjoyed this whole series and in particular, the characters in this book were super cute. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a fun, light read.

I’ve received a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. This is a super fun and cute book. Su-Lin is a fun, high-spirited girl with a huge crush on her best friend. Brendon is a little more quiet due to his past who also has a huge fresh in his best friend. Throughout the book there is laughter, sexual tension, sadness and some pretty hot evenings! As they learned to communicate and open up to their fears...their love story came to light. Great book!
