Island Reunion #1-3

Summerhouse Reunion - The Complete Story

Rate this book
This is a story told in three parts - this edition includes all three parts of the story

Five weeks, four friends, three novels, two romances, and one cold case mystery, combine to bring you the first in a series of three part reunion stories by USA Today Bestselling author Kathi Daley.

Kelly Green and her sister Kayla grew up summering on a small island off the coast of Northern California. After Kayla’s death, Kelly returns to the island where she joins three friends from her past, to commemorate both, Kayla’s life, and the life of a sixteen year old girl who disappeared from the island twenty five years earlier. Now in their early forties, each of the four remaining friends struggle to find a way to deal with their loss while also dealing with their own personal crisis.

Meanwhile, the new sheriff on the island, also a childhood friend, seems to have stumbled onto an interesting pattern the previous sheriff overlooked: A sixteen year old girl has gone missing from the island every fifth summer since Peggy disappeared. Some were assumed to have run away, while others were reported as missing, but one thing was for certain, none of the girls were ever seen again.

As the sheriff, the women, and other friends from the past, work together to piece together the random clues they hope will provide a mirror to the past, disturbing evidence begins to surface suggesting that the next girl to disappear will disappear this summer.

In the second installment of the three part story, Kelly, Carrie, and Nora, are joined by Quinn, who together, revisit the past in the hope of finding answers to a twenty five year old mystery. While the details surrounding the mystery seem to have gaps that can't be explained, things begin to come together after Kelly shares Nora’s story about Cherry with Sam. Determined to find out whether this mystery woman is still alive, or if she was, in fact, victim number four, Sam hunts for answers, only to find, when a girl turns up dead, that perhaps their assumptions were wrong all along.

Meanwhile Kelly is spending her time at The Perfect Tan Surfing Competition, Carrie is busy moving into her condo, Quinn is conflicted as work clashes with her much needed vacation, and Nora struggles with the decision she knows it is well past time to make.

In the third installment of this three-part story, Sam puts everything he has into finding the most recent missing girl in the hope that she is still alive. Quinn and Kelly discuss the situation and decide to take matters into their own hands.

Things go from dicey to downright dangerous once Quinn and Kelly set off on their secret journey to a forbidden place. Will their clue finding mission provide them what they need to save this this girl or will it simply result in two additional deaths for Sam to solve?

Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Excellent trilogy! The Summerhouse, Topsail Sundays, and Campfire Secrets. These stories should be read in order of release to completely understand the timeline of events. To me, all three stories were a mix of fabulous cozy mystery, cozy romance, and women’s fiction all rolled together. The mystery is suspenseful and grows more intense in the third story. The plots move swiftly, and I was absolutely riveted chapter after chapter. Ms. Daley is an author to watch! Her work simply gets better and better.

SUMMERHOUSE REUNION - Book One

This is a wonderful book with lots of emotions strolling through it. It is a three-part series, continued through each book. I don’t normally care to read this sort of series, but I think it works out best this way. There are four friends left out of six childhood friends and learning what things each of them has gone through throughout the years as well as the murder mystery they are working to solve now, makes for the perfect series to be reading. I am anxiously awaiting the next two books so I can see how everything is resolved.

TOPSAIL SUNDAYS - Book Two

I really enjoyed this second book in this three-part trilogy. Three friends who have come back to the island to pay tribute to a friend of theirs who disappeared years ago when they were children. This is a fabulous series that I wish could go on forever. I wish I had friends like this.

CAMPFIRE SECRETS - Book Three

This is the third installment in a three-part series that wrapped everything up wonderfully. I highly recommend you read the books in order so you understand better what’s going on. This book is fabulous! This author is fabulous! I hope she does more series like this!

Summerhouse Reunion - The Complete Story is the boxed set of Kathi Daley’s Island Trilogy. The affable characters are well developed, and the well-plotted storyline flows smoothly. The author is very talented in descriptive writing, and I felt like I was right in the midst of the activities taking place and sharing the characters’ tragedies and joys. This is a fun and clean read, with a strong emphasis on caring and compassion, not only for family and friends but for the community as well. Emotions run high, so keep the tissues handy. The complex mystery encompasses cold and current cases, and the red herrings and the twists and turns will keep readers engaged and guessing.

Carrie Davidson arranged for three of her childhood friends, Kelly Green, Nora Hargrove, and Diana “Quinn” Quinby, to return to Shipwreck Island for a long-overdue reunion and to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the summer their friend, Peggy Amundson, went missing. Each of the four women are going through traumatic problems life has dealt them and offer strength and support to one another. Kelly is dealing with the recent death of her twin sister, Kayla; Carrie’s husband recently moved out of their home, and she’s sold the house and bought a condo; Nora fears her marriage may be over; and Quinn, who has finally joined her friends, is burned out and desperately needs a break.

Kelly reconnects with Ryder West, Carrie’s younger brother, who is now a veterinarian and island’s mayor, and Sam Stone, who she’s surprised to learn is the island’s new sheriff. While going through old files left by the previous sheriff, Sam discovers a disturbing pattern of disappearances of sixteen-year-old girls with similar physical traits and interests disappearing every five years, with the first victim most likely being Peggy. Kelly, who spent a decade working as an FBI analyst, convinces Sam to let her help him review old files and look into the disappearances, and Carrie and Nora share what they know about the cases and brainstorm with Sam and Kelly. Things heat up when the daughter of one of their childhood friends goes missing.

This complete set (3 books in 1 set) is a great mini series with an intriguing plot and awesome characters. Loved how it all turned out and definitely didn't see it coming. Loved how all the pieces went in all different directions and all finally connected. Loved reading about the characters' lives and the paths they decided to follow. Loved the interaction between the characters and how I felt I was right there with them experiencing it all. Loved that its a story with friends banding together and helping each other with some major happenings in their lives (past and present) -- stories that will definitely tug at your heartstrings.

LOTS TO LOVE...

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. Lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing...and every one of them is plausible. It's a story with lots of heart that takes the time to weave it all together for the reader. There are lots of good people and some bad ones. There is lots of excitement and lots of great beach fun as well. And, drum roll please, NO cliffhanger!!! This is that rare creature...the standalone book! As for spoilers, you won't get any from me! But I will share one bit of advice....ENJOY!

Warmth Intrigue Reality Friendship and more!

To say this is a story about friends reuniting is true but this is so much more. Kathi has brilliantly woven several mysteries around a group of middle aged friends who are each struggling with issues that could have affected any and all of us. The characters are in many ways relatable, yet each one is complex. You will be wanting to be a part of this group of friends.

Great book with great characters and story

This book brought old friends together for a vacation reunion. Beyond the four friends who stay in the house, the story expands into some interesting stories of missing teens from the past. Romance blooms as friends heal from losses in their lives and old friends expand horizons.

I loved this book. Maybe because it was the whole story but I was left wanting more. I loved Kelly and Ryder and how careful they are with each other’s feelings. Sam and Quinn, well I hope Sam knows what he is getting into. I really want more. I will check out the series they mentioned.

A delightful box set of the Summerhouse Reunion! Each part can be read separately, however, I think the flow runs nicer when reading them in order. I laughed, cried, and grieved with the characters. I highly recommend this story!
