After 3 books in the series

After 3 books in the series I have finally accrued enough information to give my opinion of Russell Atwaters work. The story line and characters were good but the repetition and constant use of sodbuster, let's fetch him, a trip to boot hill, take a gander, pardner, mosey on down, and many more. Maybe the terms would be used by some but give me a break!

Great Western

This was a great Western and book three in the series. The Cowan family found their land and filed their land claims in Texas. The Cattlemen didn't like the fact that they were raising sheep,as free range was in place. It seemed that no matter what they were doing trouble just seemed to find them. A fast paced book that keeps you reading to find out what happens next. I felt like the ending was a little rushed but overall a great western with lots of gunbattles, Indians, wicked cattle baron, and an undertaker that stays extremely busy.

This is a continuation of the Bruce Cowan family headed for Texas thinking it would be safer than California. The Homesteaders are signing up for free land, to build a cabin and live on it for five years, making improvements so the Government will gives them their claim land. Bruce, Lois, his wife, and daughter, Becky will live there. Trent Mc Leod claimed his homestead land next to Bruce's family. Cord McGregor a cattle baron owns a large Ranch next to Bruce's land.

This is a well written, light romance story full of action, with one adventure after another throughout the book. I felt like I was in the middle of all the action as the words flew off the pages with all the excitement. I enjoyed this good clean western series, the characters were vividly described that came alive. There are three books on the series, all the books were full of excitement with good plots. A must read it you like western stories.

Action, gun slinging, humor...a lot of wild west with a touch of romance

I guess my title said it all.
Book 3 finds brothers Trent and Pat, and newest friend Pony Boy, having a hard time leaving the Cowan family behind. Everyone pitches in to build a cabin for the family of 4 while their son Wes Cowan is adamant that he's not going to be a farmer.

One of the brothers might just file a homestead claim too. But this beautiful valley that grows lush grass can be mighty inhospitable for so busters and sheep herders. Just how many enemies does this little group have? Can they find a safe place here, or will they end up on boot hill?

I've read the series, and enjoyed each book. However I hope they continue with this series, I'm hoping to find out if Pat or Wes get the sand out of their boots. Also if Pony Boy gets his mate. Wonders about Lobo and Pup as to being great sheep herding dogs. Lots of options if this author Russell J Atwater. I've enjoyed his writing style and plan to read some of his other books that are available, if not this year but definitely next year.
Thank you for this look at helping to imagine what the settlers from the train to homesteading could of faced.

Fight for your family.

One family desides to leave the wagon train and settle in Texas. The first few months were extremely frightening. They had to work very hard to clear the land, start a garden and build two log cabins At the same time they were fighting bandits, ranchers or Indians to keep their homes and lives. Reading the Cowan Family Saga, books 1,2 and 3 will give you an idea of how difficult. it was in the 1800's to settle our country.

the Cowan family with Trent, Pat and Pony Boy

This is the last story in the tale of the Cowan family wagon train trip to Texas. They are now homesteading sheep herders. They are still having to protect them selves from the Indians, bandits and now the rich cattlemen. Wes now considers himself to be the Boston Kid, the homesteads are built, the sheep are doing well and Trent is marring.you will enjoy the third in the series and the whole series.

Family story continues about the harsh west

Half Indian brothers who picked up the young indian, pony boy, and the son of a friend show character, mercy, justice, and hope to a sheriff and town being pressured by a rich rancher and his men. They take down outlaws, help Indians escape from the cavalry and set up homesteads with their sheep. Recommended for all readers.

And a saga it was!!!

I delieve the author told a story that was packed with good and bad. The cowan family are loveable characters. The action was never in short supply. The romance that blooms over the course of the 3 books is sweet. The strenth of people that wanted to go west must have been much greater than the strength of people now a days.. it was a great story !!

Another great adventure!

Back in time when countries were built on human lives as all struggled to build a nation. Great characters with plenty of action. Fascinating to read about an imagine, however, living it is not something I would have enjoyed. God bless all who gave us our countries in today's world!!!

Lots of excitement and adventure.

This is a typical example of the conflict between ranchers and sheep farmers. They have to do a lot of him fighting in order to get it straightened out.

Always trouble that ends up ok

The Cowens and Trent always seem to attract trouble but somehow manage to escape with their lives intact. This tale is a little to simple and ends tidily. Something fun to read though.

I can only imagine the hardships in the Texas Panhandle when the Cowan group was homesteading there because my ancestors settled near Pala Duro canyon near Silverton - rough country even without fighting over sheep and cattle.

This is the final book in this series, which I enjoyed like watching an old Western movie! I used the Cowan Family Saga as a refreshing break from my often heavier reading themes. It’s about love, loyalty and friendship, as well as being a well researched history lesson of the times.

Confrontation

Everything was leading up to the confrontation of all groups at war. You can think through and make choices so you don't have live by the gun. This series about the Cowan family was very enjoyable.

It's ok

I had to read to find out if a marriage took place. The use of putting someone in the dirt was overused. I don't t know how many settlers made with all the killing.

Not what I expected

I. Was expecting pioneer life. Very little in that regard,
. Most about cowboys, Indians and outlaws. I was disappointed. Very predictable.
