Benny the Ostrich is determined to find a food that is tastier than his usual meal of grass, so he decided to ask other animals what they like to eat. Will this curious little Ostrich find a new favorite dish, or will he get more than he bargained for? Join Benny as he travels the wilds of Africa, encountering new animals, and learning about what their favorite foods are along the way.
A delightful children's book my daughter and I enjoyed reading together. Vibrantly illustrated children will love the full color illustrations that will keep them entertained as their parents read to them. Great book for children to practice reading the words to as well. The young ostrich lives with his mother and is getting bored with eating the same foods all the time, just like we do. He visits some other animals and bravely decides to try the types of foods that they eat thinking it may be a nice change. What follows will bring a laugh from your children as the foods he tries results in everything from eating prickly leaves to farting . Do ostriches fart? I don't know but your children will get a howl out of it. I think there is a nice lesson here for children to learn that we don't always need new and improved things and we can be satisfied with what we have in the first place. Lovely book that I recommend!
Eaton Hansen Publishers (August 11, 2020) I was provided with a free copy form Amazon. Thank you All opinions expressed are my own.
No Ants Please by Heather Hansen is a gorgeously drawn (by Alexsander Jasinki) picture book that has a wonderful story to help introduce young children to various animals of Africa and the idea of different foods being appropriate for different bodies.
With food allergies so prevalent in our society, No Ants Please, is a fantastic way for children to learn that different foods may not react well in various people. Even though food allergies is not once mentioned, Hansen does it in such a way that the reader will not even realize they are being taught something. It also shows them that trying new foods, while not always fun, is a good thing to do. And by incorporating the ostrich passing gas… well, children will love that.
No Ants Please is perfect for caregivers to read while children enjoy the drawings. Then after, they can discuss trying different foods, food allergies, and how eating healthy food that does not make you sick is very important.
Children will love this story and all the animals. I loved the illustrations as they make you just smile. A super cute story that definitely keep your attention. The story itself is about a curious ostrich happily (and bravely!) willing to try new food. It doesn’t always work out but the effort is there. My daughter wants me us to read this book again :))
This is a really cute book that will delight children ages 1-4. Hansen, using her years of experience as an Early Childhood teacher, writes in easy to follow dialogue that will delight the children as well as educate. Benny, a young ostrich, is curious about what other animals eat and spends a day wandering around asking others. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. There is plenty of room to expand the story by pointing out the way the land looks, asking about differences, asking about the various animals, discussing what foods you like and don’t like as well as how different animals eat different things just like people do. There is also room for giggles as eating different things can cause your body to react in odd ways that are super silly for the very young and completely age-appropriate.
Benny the Ostrich has a question. What do other animals eat? He tries food with an anteater, an elephant and a giraffe. But what happens when Benny meets a crocodile?
Pick up the book to find out. Great for children, the pictures are colorful, and I love the safari theme on the cover. The cartoonish character illustrations bring a light hearted adventure to this cute tale.
Heather is a wife and a mother to two adorable children. She was a preschool teacher for several years, now she is homeschooling her kids while she works on getting her credentials to be an elementary school teacher. She lives in a small country town where she loves to write her children's books. When she isn't writing she is with her many pets or out in nature as much as she can be. She gets most of her inspiration from animals she sees and from her children.
I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations were beautiful and I found myself really taking in the images. My favorite has to be the tree with the giraffe's head poking through the top. I enjoyed the story aspect because it softly urges children (or adults) to try something new like Benny trying new foods. While doing this, the author also managed to give the reader some information on each individual animal by describing what they eat. I find myself wanting to recommend this book to teachers, starting with my mom.
This is a really cute book to teach youngsters to be grateful for what they have - that the grass is not necessarily always greener on the other side. Kids ask so many questions in the preschool and kindergarten levels and it's just nice to have a book to get them thinking critically about venturing out, trying different things, and exploring their curiosities while still knowing that what they have at home, may be good enough!
This was a very delightful story about young Benny the Ostrich who is tired of eating the same old thing and sets out to find something different. He meets up with several different animals and discovers their food was too strange and not that yummy for him. This fun story is paired with illustrations that will capture a child's attention. Illustrator Aleksander Jasinski did such a wonderful job. I am including this book on my Christmas list for my young niece.
A fun read sure to produce some giggles for your family!
No Ants Please is a cute book about a little ostrich and his quest to discover what other animals in Africa eat. This a fast and enjoyable read, sure to make your kids giggle while everyone enjoys the beautiful illustrations. A very fun read!
"Who eats what" is the theme, but gratitude for a full plate is the real take away. The characters are full of life, well illustrated and with unique voices. I love the color schemes and the rich compositions. This story has re-reading appeal, and can be enjoyed just for its pictures of habitats and animal behaviors.
No ants please is a very cute story about Benny the ostrich who wants to know what other animals eat so that he could eat something other than grass. As he takes on this adventure, he realizes what he eats is just right for him! The illustrations were rich and it made you feel like you were in Africa. They completely complimented the story well. A must read for parents and teachers!
A sweet story for young readers who wonder about what animals eat. Benny, a young ostrich, is an adorable main character who finds himself on an adventure to discover some new food as grass and leaves have become boring. After some funny incidents trying out other animal's diets, Benny comes to see that grass isn't so bad after all.
This book is super fun! I have high school aged kids and I actually reread the book out loud to them— they laughed out loud! It’s a book that children of all ages will enjoy! The ostrich character’s boredom of the ordinary, his curiosity, and sweet innocence make the story so much fun to read! Highly recommend and would read again anytime!
I wasn’t sure what the story would be about based on the title but I was blown away. It’s classic, yet silly! I can already imagine my students laughter at specific points in the story and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous!

No, Ants Please is a well-illustrated cute and quirky story that will delight children. My friend told me about this book so I got it for my cousin's youngest as a Christmas gift – and she loved hearing about Benny the ostrich!
No Ants Please is a beautifully illustrated picture book with rich details and characters with lots of personality. Readers will find the images and the humor engaging. When Benny becomes bored with the grass he eats every day, he learns his own lesson of the grass not being greener.
A funny little story about what ostriches eat. Benny was a curious baby. He went out to find out what other animals eat. His journey was educational in a humorous way.
