Denali colony is failing. But a pristine Earth-like planet beckons - beautiful Sylvan!
Sass Collier and Thrive escort the colony expedition.
Woefully underfunded, understaffed, and ill-equipped, they’re settling the first new human world in a century. The expedition leader’s motto is Fail Fast.
And they’re doing a bang-up job of it!
But is the problem lovely forested Sylvan? Or sabotage?
Join the motley crew of Thrive for another space opera romp across the sorry stars of the refugee diaspora on the wing and prayer plan!

After 14 years on walkabout to New York, Colorado, Texas and Tokyo, I swam home to spawn in shoreline Connecticut. A recovering computer programmer, I’ve worked in the seismic industry, semiconductor electronics, academic research in biology and environmental science, and online teaching simulators.
I live alone, and enjoy swimming, walking, and crafts. I grow vegetables indoors, until my crops spill outside and down the driveway. I read voraciously, curious about everything, especially how things work.
This book is a story of tenacity, determination, deception, and betrayal. The Denali need to resettle to save their race. Their philosophy is to “fail fast”. The new colony will either work or they will die quickly trying. All lives are expendable. At least that is the philosophy of those in charge. Ginger gives us a chance to think about how far some will go to prove their point and how far others will to go to sabotage that effort. Who is really in the right. Clay also makes a welcome return appearance. It is nice to see how Sass and Clay play off of and compliment each other. This book continues a wonderful series and gives us hope of more to come. There is great science, wonderful characters, thought provoking ideas, with some humour thrown in for fun.
Again its fantastic. The world they tried to claim turned on them.
Again the world they tried to take the Denali to is too dangerous. And the group trying to sabotage everything wasn’t helping. The world had just too many things wrong and the Denali didn’t want to terraform. They just wanted to land and make a home. They were the first and the saying was, fail fast. They came with to few on a short budget and not enough budget to give themselves a good chance. But Denali was dying and they felt they had no choice. The sabatures thought they did and would do what they could to see the landing failed even if it meant everyone died. Sass, Clay and the rest of the ship that stayed to help were fighting with their hands tied.
While I enjoy these characters of sass , clay and Ben a great deal , I found myself pretty bored with this book. I can't really put my finger on anything definitive that I didn't like , I just didn't find much of interest in this storyline. I have read all eight books so this wasn't my first experience with the characters and the universe they inhabit. I will move onto book nine , because I am invested in both time spent and I won't rest well if I don't know how the overall story concludes. I hope it's more exciting , at least a little!.
I am so loving these books. The characters are wonderful, real people that you want to be friends with. The stories - such imagination, I really am flabbergasted at such depth and range of people, places and events. And churning out some many books so quickly, just amazing. I am mourning in anticipation of finishing the series because they could go on forever and I would be happy. Beautifully written, character driven but excitement and adventure as well. Just awesome.
The Thrive ships make it to Sylvan, an Earth like planet with a deadly oxygen rich atmosphere. The ships carry Denali evacuees determined to start a new colony on this beautiful world. Heavily forested and largely glacial Sylvan contains dangers as well as magnificent scenery. Some of those dangers arrive with the ships as not all the evacuees want to be on Sylvan and plot to be taken elsewhere.
This book is almost unreadable for the first couple of chapters but even though the premise is utter nonsense ,trying to colonize a planet with poisonous atmo , if you liked the other books in the series, you'll like this one.
Ginger Booth provides us with more adventure on Canton. I love the story line and the characters, especially the interaction with A.I. Looking forward to book 9.
